It's Not Just Getting Hot - It's Boiling!

Events regarding "the deal" with Iran are occurring at breakneck speed. Just yesterday and today:

- Prime Minister Netanyahu, via live webcast, made the case against the deal with Iran, with an American, primarily Jewish, audience.

- Several Members of Congress indicated their disapproval of the deal

- Several Members of Congress indicated their approval of the deal.

- The American Jewish Congress (AJC), under the leadership of David Harris, announced it opposes the deal.

- President Obama stated that if Congress kills the deal, rockets will fall on Tel Aviv.

- President Obama, in his continuing criticism of Netanyahu, went on national television to plead his case for the deal.

- The Israeli government responded, issuing a statement reading in part, "This agreement does not prevent war, but brings it closer, because it gives international legitimacy to Iran to build the infrastructure to create an arsenal of nuclear bombs, and is financing the terrorist machine and its aggression with hundreds of billions of dollars."

- Secretary of State Kerry expressed doubt that Iran wants to annihilate Israel, even in the face of repeated statements to that effect, plus the release of a new 400+ page book detailing step-by-step how Iran plans to destroy Israel.

- The Israeli-based rights group, Shurat HaDin filed an injunction in New York to block the release of $100 billion in frozen Iranian assets in the United States.

- Perhaps unsurprisingly, the U.S. intelligence community has informed Congress of evidence that Iran was sanitizing its suspected nuclear military site at Parchin, in broad daylight, days after agreeing to a nuclear deal with world powers.

- And finally, Chuck "the Shomer" Schumer has continued to maintain silence. He is probably still poring over the details of the deal to make an "informed decision". Or, holding his finger up determining which way the wind is blowing.

There is some great analysis out there, way too much to be included here. However, here are a few links to some choice pieces.

Last Night's Memorial Tribute to Ze'ev Jabotinsky

AFSI and the Nordau Circle hosted last night's Memorial Tribute to Ze'ev Jabotinsky, on the occasion of his 75th Yarzheit.

A meaningful and enjoyable time was had by all. Judy Kadish, AFSI's Co-Executive Director, opened the evening with eloquent introductory remarks, followed by AFSI's Chairman, Mark Langfan who offered greetings to the assembly. Mark, without his usual complement of maps, gave a sobering view of what could befall Israel, the Middle East and the entire world if Iran were in possession of nuclear weapons.

Rabbi Avi Weiss, just back from Israel, made a welcome and surprise appearance to honor our guest speaker, Ronn Torossian. Rabbi Weiss spoke most vividly about his recollections of the significance and beauty of Gush Katif before the expulsion in 2005.

The guest speaker for the evening, Ronn Torossian presented an intensely interesting and thought-provoking comparison of the 1930s vs. today, and a brief history lesson of Jabotinsky, the world in which he lived, and the ideology that drove world events in his time and today.

Helen Freedman, AFSI's Executive Director discussed the situation the Jews from Gush Katif have endured for the past 10 years following their expulsion by the Sharon government. This was followed by a short, emotional film about the expulsion and its aftermath.

The crowd enjoyed and appreciated the evening, and we hope to see all of you at next year's commemoration.

More in tomorrow's email!
