Letter to Mainstream Jewish Organizations re: 5.4 billion plan to speed arrival of Palestinian State

bs"d

IN the Economist April 26th, 2008 issue page 65 it was reported that this month Israel agreed to let the Palestinian Authority (PA) open 20 police stations in the West Bank.  For the first time since the Palestinians violent second intifada began eight years ago, they will be in rural areas, where Israel, not the PA is in charge of security.  Last month Israel also gave the PA permission to deploy 620 special forces troops in the northern West Bank city of Jenin home to some of the most diehard Palestinian militants.

It is all part of a $5.4 billion plan meant to speed the arrival of a Palestinian state.  Israel is negotiating a "framework agreement" (no longer a fully fledged peace deal, as planned last autumn) with the PA's president, Mahmoud Abbas.

WOW a lot has happened in one month while we were all busy preparing and celebrating  the  Passover Holiday.

The Economists also reports that the green light for the new police stations and deployment in Jenin came only after a lot of American pressure on Israel to give Mr. Abbas a chance to prove himself.

5.4 billion dollars is a lot of money.  I am sure you agree.  It can wreak much havoc on the lives of hundreds of thousands of Jews living in Judea and Samaria who will be displaced not to mention the rest of Israel who will be within rocket range, if Mr. Abbas does NOT prove himself.

And we have excellent reason to believe that Mr. Abbas will not prove himself.

That reason has its source based on the Torah.  Military and other experts will support with strong arguments as to why Mr. Abbas will not prove himself.  Yet the Torah is the root reason.  The Torah can not be negotiated away. You don't have to be an observant Jew to believe in the Torah, You don't even have to be Jewish.  The Land of Israel is the PROMISED LAND.  It is also called the HOLY LAND.  It is a gift of G-d to the Jewish People, promised to the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob exclusively. It is a Holy Land when the Nation of Israel observe the commandments in the Land of Israel and the Land of Israel  is a necessary ingredient for the observance of many of the commandments  such as Shemittah, the Sabbatical year.  These commandments are known as Mitzvoth Teluyot Baaretz, commandments dependent on the Land.

The blessings for the observance of these commandments is peace and prosperity.  The failure of observance of these commandments is lack of peace and security, which seems to be the present situation of today.  The Land of Israel has never produced and will never produce for any foreign authority, peaceful loving Palestinians or other, as the Torah has stated and as history has shown. Gush Katif  in the Gaza strip is a perfect example.  Once a thriving productive piece of land with an abundance of produce, bug free lettuce, tomatoes, flowers etc, exports in the millions if not more.  Now it is the breeding ground for Al Qaieda and Hamas a launching site for rocket and mortar attack against "proper Israel" whatever "proper Israel" means.  The name Green Line was coined since upon looking at Israel from an aerial perspective, the part of Israel that was under Israel's jurisdiction was green due to the abundance of produce.  The other side of the line not under Jewish sovereignty was barren.

As leaders of the Jews,  who have the mandate to be the Mamlechet Kohanim, a Kingdom of Priests for all the other nations, will YOU stand idly by when 5.4 billion dollars is at the very best being wasted and almost certainly being used for destructive purposes. Will you continue to sit silently or even endorse this Roadmap which continues to empower terror and terrorists and bring destruction to humanity, G-d Forbid,  all in the name of "Peace"?

Dear Howard Rieger, Joseph Kanfer, Malcolm Hoenlein, June Walker, John Ruskay, Russell Robinson and Ronald Lauder.

We must take the consequences of our actions or inactions.  All of you are major players in Major Jewish Mainstream organizations that supported the gov't of Israel's policies of the disengagement in your official job capacity.

Now, you must own up to your decision to support the gov't of Israel's policy and deal with the negative consequences of the Disengagement from the Gaza Strip.  It is highly immoral to simply walk away now. .

Demand that the gov't of Israel deliver on its promise to a solution for every individual of Gush Katif.  Demand that every debt to pay off a personal mortgage or business loan be taken over by the gov't or your organization.  Forcing the expellees to pay for the loans and mortgages on their property and businesses that was destroyed by the gov't is despicable.

Then demand permanent housing for these wandering Jews and significant assistance to these Jews.

Finally speak out loud and clear when the gov't acts in the same manner evicting innocent families from their homes in Judea and Samaria for no other apparent purpose than to appease our enemy or to please American Foreign Policy.

Isn't it glaring to you that the Disengagement has compromised Israel's National Security with Kassam rockets and mortars reaching population centers in Sderot and Ashkelon.  As representing the Jewish voice, it is your obligation to express your dismay publicly and denounce the "peace talks" and "land for peace" as being nothing more than a catalyst to the increase of terror and aggression and antisemitism not only in Israel but throughout the world.

Action Alert from Buddy. Still no homes for Gush Katif Jews. Still obligated to pay back loans after gov't destroys

bs"d

Let me add to Buddy's letter that it's totally disgusting that after the gov't so efficiently destroyed their means of Parnassa, their livelihood, the farmers are still required to pay back the loans and the mortgages on their homes and businesses in Gush Katif.  Demand that in addition to finding permanent housing for the people of Gush Katif, that their loans be released on the property and businesses that the gov't destroyed. Why should these honest hard working individuals have their credit ruined due to no fault of their own. Let the gov't take responsibility for these people's inability to pay their debts.

"Disengagement" from the Gaza Strip was completed on August 22, 2005 and from northern Samaria a day later.  It is now 1,000 DAYS since our fellow Jews were expelled from their homes, yet inconceivably, and tragically so, building of permanent houses for most of the expellees HAS NOT EVEN BEGUN!

Please write to Howard Rieger, Joseph Kanfer, Malcolm Hoenlein, June Walker, John Ruskay, Russell Robinson and Ronald Lauder.

Ask them what they have done LATELY to address the ongoing tragedy of the expellees from Gush Katif.

Ask them what would happen to the up to 250,000 Jews who would be expelled from their homes should Olmert agree to "Palestinian" demands.

Demand immediate, SIGNIFICANT ASSISTANCE TO THE EXPELLEES.

Demand that they publicly say "NO" TO THE TWO-STATE "SOLUTION."

Thank you so much.

There will be a march from Yad Mordechai Junction to Erez Roadblock this coming Sunday (Isru-Chag Pesach - 22 Nissan [27 April]) starting at 4pm - the former residents of Gush Katif will scream "Until When Will We Be Without a House?" ... How to write an effective letter to the Editor - a must read for activists.

bs"d

Dear Friends, amv"sh

Thank you Aliza for sending me these links on tips on how to write an effective letter to the editor so that it will be published.  I urge all fellow activists to take the time to read these very important suggestions straight from the experts at Honest Reporting and Camera.

Aliza Karp writes:

below i have pasted links to valuable instructions for writing to the editor with publication as your goal. i will add that giving Tzedaka before hand will also add to success.

writing letters to the media is something that anyone can do. once you get printed - you make a very big impact! and yet it is something you can do by yourself or together with people you know. you do not have to tell the heads of organizations how to do their job - because when it comes to writing to the editor - anyone can do it and anyone can make an impact... but as i said before, it takes time, training and concentration to write a letter that will get printed.

studying the information on the links below is the first step.

Ethnic Cleansing vs. Entitlement, Judaism vs Democracy

bs"d

Dear Friends, amv"sh

CALL THE CONSULATE AND WRITE LETTERS!

As American Citizens we must recognize that America is forcing Israel to act against Israel's  National Security Interests and pushing her to relinquish her Sovereignty over the Land of Israel.

Map in Abbas office     (thank you Stuart for sending)

By forcing Israel to accept Fatah and Hamas as peace partners, they are meddling into Israel's affairs and basically putting the lives of Israeli citizens in serious danger.

The implementation of the disengagement of Gush Katif has resulted in Ethnic Cleansing and Judenrein in the Gaza Strip.  The failure of the IDF to destroy the source of the Kassam rockets in Southern Israel has resulted in thousands of Jews running away from Sderot. Just today alone Terrorists in Gaza have fired a total of 13 rockets and 13 mortar shells at Israeli towns . (thank you Izzy Kaplan for latest update). The abandonment of the IDF of military units in Judea and Samaria, the dismantling of roadblocks, the arrest of military officers (Halamish brothers) when they protect their communities within Judea and Samaria, the eviction of a family when they move into their new home in Negahot, the latest decision to destroy the shul Hazon David near Kiryat Arba are all proof of subtle and not so subtle attempts to get Jews to leave their entitled Land.  This is coupled with monetary incentives which buys silence to enable the roadmap, the 2 State Solution to progress without protest.

Can you imagine if a foreign gov't  would put pressure on the USA to stop expansion in a Jewish Community in the States e.g. Boro Park or Flatbush and then evict any new Jewish homes  that have been built recently.  Would this be considered Democracy?    Even by rules of Democracy, such actions are illegal.

Yet Israel is not meant to be a democracy.  Israel is the Land of the Jews and G-d's law is the ideal Law of the Land.

Judaism has laws that can be misconstrued as racist.  Only the High Priest may enter the Holy of Holies and only on Yom Kippur.  Only the Priests can enter the Holy and only Levites can enter certain parts of the Temple Mount.  The land is divided among the Tribes. According to the Torah, every 50 years in the Jubilee Year, the land was returned to it's original owner's as determined by the allotment in Joshua's time.   Originally, the Land was divided by lots and which plot went to which family was also determined by lottery. Each tribe would then retain their inheritance forever.  The Priests and the Levites and the convert do not have territorial inheritance though they do have designated cities.  All the tribes accepted their designated Land apportioned to them.   Every seven years the Land is let to lie fallow and returned to the Creator of the world.  Can one tribe then claim that these laws are racists? Can an Israelite complain that it's not fair that the Temple Mount is closed to him and his family. Can he claim that the priests are racists?  Can he protest in the Jubilee year when he is forced to return the Land he "owns" to the original owner? Can he complain that the allotment of his brother is better than his own and really he is deserving?

We are awaiting the Messiah who will tell us who belongs to which tribe and once again we pray that we will know which parcel of Land if any is our rightful inheritance. In the meanwhile, we know that the Land of Israel is promised exclusively to the Nation of Israel. The Nation of Israel must keep and preserve the commandments.  Only we have entitlement.  There is place for the Ger Toshav, the resident that is not a member of the Jewish Nation, to live among us.  However, such a resident must accept the 7 Noahite Laws and accept Jewish Sovereignty.

Is this racist?  This is Torah and from this all the blessings of peace and prosperity will flow.

EMERGENCY GENERAL MOBILIZATION !

According to trustworthy sources, tonite, Monday nite April 28th, the security forces intend to destroy the Hazon David synagogue -outpost in Kiryat Arba and also to arrive in Neguhot (southern hebron Hills) and destroy the house of a family living in the Neguhot outpost.

All Jews loyal to the Land of Israel are asked to come this evening to Kiryat Arba and spend the nite in Hazon david in order to defend the place. Bring sleeping bags and all you need to spend the nite there.

As we have said many times- the government starts with the destruction of one building as a test case. Their intention is to destroy entire communities. By fighting tooth and nail for each building we are fighting for all of Erets Israel.

To all friends of Israel abroad we urge you to contact your local Israeli embassies, congressmen, newspapers etc... and flood their offices with phonecalls and faxes demanding to put a stop to the destruction of Jewish property and expulsion of Jews in the land of Israel. The building that needs to be destroyed instead is the house of the arab terrorist who committed the massacre in the yeshiva in Jerusalem a few weeks ago.

With love for the Land of Israel

Nadia Matar
-----------------------------
Translation of Letter written by the Hazon David keepers urging all to come:

To all lovers of Israel!

we were told that tonite the security forces plan on destroying Hazon david synagogue in Kiryat Arba.

If it is our fate here in Kiryat Arba Hevron to be the first ones who need to fight against the planned destruction - we will rise up to the challenge - strong and determined.
We will not allow another expulsion of jews from the Land of israel.

Reminder:
The Hazon david synagogue was built after the murder of David Cohen HY"D and of the local council member Yehezkel Muallem HY"D

The synagogue brought security to the residents of the Givat Avot neighborhood (especially the women and children) who, before that, were constantly harassed by Arabs.

All lovers of Israel are urged to spend the night in Hazon David to protect the synagogue. Please arrive not later than 10:00pm.

We hope that thanks to our efforts and with G-d's help, the decree will be overturned.

With love for the land and the people,

The hazon David synagogue

Action Alert: Pidionshvuim7&8 Halamish brothers, family in Negahot

bs"d

Action Alert:  In addition to calling up the Embassy [telephone 202-364-5500], here are additional email addresses to express your outrage at the arrest and pending imprisonment of the Halamish brothers whose crime is protecting a Jewish community.

Apparently, American Foreign Policy rather than legitimate Israeli security considerations are dictating IDF.  Dismantling 50 roadblocks as well as supplying Fatah with arms that find themselves in the hands of terrorist are other examples. where American Foreign Policy   has taken priority over security considerations, thereby endangering the lives of Israeli citizens.   Evicting a family from their home on the Eve of the holiday by the IDF is another proof that the IDF will operate in order to please American Foreign Policy rather than behave with human decency and concern for their fellow Jew.

Halamish Brothers Land in Legal Limbo; Could Be Arrested Any Moment

Hours before they were scheduled to begin their prison sentence in
connection with protecting a Jewish community, the Halamish brothers won
what turned out to be a very short reprieve.
Jerusalem District Court Judge Moshe Ravid stayed the prison sentence of
Danny and Yitzhak Halamish, scheduled to enter jail on April 10. At first,
Ravid ordered a hearing after Passover to discuss why the request by the
brothers to stay their prison sentence was rejected without explanation. But
a day later, Ravid said the hearing would take place on April 11 at 9:30
a.m. Why? Call it pressure from his superiors.
At the hearing on April 11, Ravid, who pleaded ignorance to the details,
said he did not have authority to decide the case. The prosecution was
pleased, but then asked the judge to order the arrest of the Halamish
brothers so that they would not be declared fugitives. The judge refused,
and suggested that the court that sentenced the brothers be approached
instead.
The bottom line is that the Halamish brothers are free, but could be
arrested at any moment. The brothers plan to again appeal the Supreme Court,
which already rejected a previous motion.
In March, we reported on the case of Danny and Yitzhak Halamish, two
members of an Israel Army-sponsored unit abandoned by the military and
sentenced to jail for protecting a Jewish community in Judea and Samaria.
Since then, at least 1,000 people have either telephoned
their outrage to the Israeli military or signed a petition for the
suspension of theit sentences.
Ravid's ruling not to hear the Halamish case could give the brothers
another chance to prove their innocence. The brothers argued in their appeal
that a third member of the unit had been kept of out prison until he
was pardoned by then-President Moshe Katsav. The Halamishes have submitted a
similar
pardon request to President Shimon Peres.
Dear lovers of Zion, there is no question that your pressure helped keep
the Halamish brothers out of prison. Now, we must redouble
our efforts so that the Israel Army assumes responsibility for its soldiers
and
either bails them out or tries the brothers in a military court..
Call the Israel embassy  [telephone 202-364-5500] and ask to speak to
the military attache. Express your outrage that the Israel Army abandoned
its fighters for protecting Jews.. Don't argue. The military attache's office
knows exactly what you're talking about.
Stress that you are an American citizen whose support for the Israeli
military is based on its protection of Jews. Say that you also plan to
discuss this case with your member of Congress who decides on U.S. military
aid to Israel.
The Olmert government, with an approval rating of near zero, has refused
any accountability to the Israeli people and fears only the Bush
administration. Unless we act now, there will be many more young Jews in
jail. The Jewish holiday of Passover is about redemption. Let's work to
redeem our fellow Jews.

With Love of Israel,

pidionshvuim8 Action Alert! Letter from Mrs. Goldsmith to Israel Embassy.

bs"d

Dear Friends, amv"sh

The following letter was sent to me from Israel on Pesach by Pidyon Shvuyim.  Please respond accordingly to the inhumane treatment of a family, including a pregnant mother who according to the writer of the letter, were thrown out of their new home in Negahot before the Holiday, by the IDF.  This military action, equipped with American made vehicles, American made weapons and American made uniforms, evicted the family,  together with their 5 kids on the eve of the holiday.  Their crime is apparently their desire to live in their home in Negahot, the Land of  their Entitlement.  Apparently, the Israel gov't and the American foreign policy do not recognize their entitlement as they failed to recognize the entitlement of those families from Gush Katif.  Apparently they prefer the Hamas and Al Qaida strongholds that have replaced the beautiful communities of Gush Katif now a breeding ground for terror sending terror Kassam rockets on a daily basis to Sderot and to Southern Israel.

Mrs. Goldsmith, NY  as well as others, called the Israel Embassy on Pesach but they were closed.  Mrs. Goldsmith then called the emergency number but they hung up on her after hearing her protests. She called back but this time they did not even pick up.  Please read her letter to the Israel Embassy at the end of this email..

Action Alert:  In addition to calling up the Embassy [telephone 202-364-5500], here are additional email addresses to express your outrage at this violation of human dignity and rights of a law abiding family, citizens of the State of Israel, on the eve of a religious holiday by the Israeli army that clearly is following the dictates of American Foreign Policy rather than the Jewish tradition of basic decency.

No. 8
Are we talking about a Jewish army?

We are sorry to interrupt your Passover holiday but we turn to you with very disturbing news of how the Israeli army has been violating the religious and human rights of Jews in Judea and Samaria.
On the eve of Passover, the army sent troops to throw out a Jewish family with five young children and a pregnant mother from their home in the community of Negohot in southern Judea.
Imagine you and your family are preparing for the Passover Seder and the Sabbath as Israeli soldiers, equipped with American weapons, American vehicles and even American-made uniforms throw you out from your home, throw out all your prepared food and pots, turn off your gas and electricity and throw out your refrigerator, cokker and oven just hours before the festival.
The crime of the family is not clear other than they entered into a new home built on their property in an established community approved and financed by the government. But these are difficult times when the government of Israel has to prove to the United States the commitment by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to destroy Jewish life through out Judea and Samaria and parts of Jerusalem.
As those who serve and whose children serve in the army, we recognize the need for the defense of country and homeland but what is happening increasingly and the Israeli army is being used against Jews and to defend our enemies.
We ask you to telephone your protest to the Israeli embassy in Washington and to raise this issue with your member of congress.
Call the Israel embassy [telephone 202-364-5500] and ask to speak to the military attache. Stress that you are an American citizen whose support for the Israeli military is based on its protection of Jews. Dear Sirs,

I'm afraid the response to my phonecall, in which I mentioned my disgust with the Israeli government for evicting a young family from Negahot on the Eve of Passover(!), did not measure up to my expectations of a body representing the State of Israel.  I too would be at a loss to defend the act of evicting a Jewish family on the Eve of a holiday if I were in your place.  But I like to think that I would not take the cowardly route of hanging up and refusing to pick up when the phone rang again.  Then again, perhaps I would be so deeply ashamed and incapable of defending or apologizing for the actions of my country that I too would take the easy way out.

Meanwhile, please register to your government the disgust that I, as an American Jew and  supporter of Israel, feel about the immoral persecution of Jewish citizens for the apparent puprose of currying favor with whomever it is that the current Israeli government is hoping to please with their embarrassing scraping and bowing.  Please let them know, too, that American Jews have more influence with their government than Israelis have with theirs and that American Jews support the government of Israel only so long as it is perceived to be protecting its own people.

Sincerely,
Mrs. J Goldsmith

Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations Stands with Govt. Against Pollard

From: Mrs. Esther Pollard

Dear Mrs Lichtenstein,

Re: Hamodia Special Feature* on Jonathan Pollard, 04/17/08 Pages B2 - B7

Jonathan and I want to extend a hearty Yashar Koach to Hamodia for the Special Feature presentation of the Pollard case in the Passover Edition ! Hamodia has done a great service to Klal Yisrael with this six- page special feature by making the truth accessible to readers in the US and in Israel. Multiple articles on the Pollard case shine a light on the long-neglected mitzvah of pidyan shvuyim, and honestly portray my husband, Jonathan Pollard, who is fighting a life and death battle for freedom after decades of abandonment and betrayal by Israel and the American Jewish Leaders.

We would, however, like to request a correction regarding the comments of Malcom Hoenlein (Hamodia, Special Feature, 04/17/08 Page B6). Contrary to Mr. Hoenlein's statements, the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations did indeed reassure President Reagan that it agreed with Jonathan's life sentence and would never oppose his being incarcerated for life, in a letter to then-Secretary of State George Schulz. We obtained a copy of the Conference's letter <http://www.jonathanpollard.org/2002/111802.htm>http://www.jonathanpol lard.org/2002/111802.htm via the Freedom of Information Act, and it has been posted to our website since 2002. A copy follows below, with J4JP introductory remarks.

Please note that letter assuring the Reagan Administration of its agreement regarding Jonathan's being "justly" sentenced to life in prison and its commitment not to interfere in any way with the sentence, was written by the Conference of Presidents a mere 6 days after Jonathan was sentenced to life in prison.

While Mr. Hoenlein recently told Hamodia, that such no such commitment was ever made, please note the letterhead. It indicates that Mr. Hoenlein was at the time, Executive Director of the Conference.

As the Hamodia Special Feature accurately portrayed him, Jonathan is a G-d fearing man and uncompromising about the truth.  He chooses his words carefully and would never falsely accuse anyone. We therefore hope that Hamodia will bring the letter below (and its attached media release <http://www.jonathanpollard.org/2002/111902.htm>http://www.jonathanpol lard.org/2002/111902.htm) to the attention of your readers. We encourage you also to share the response from the Administration to the Conference <http://www.jonathanpollard.org/2002/111902a.htm>http://www.jonathanpo llard.org/2002/111902a.htm in which Schulz confirms receipt of the letter and expresses satisfaction that the Conference has adopted the Government's position on the Pollard case.

In all fairness, it should be made clear to your readers that Jonathan's statement to Hamodia  "...the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations assured President Reagan that they agreed with my sentence and would never do anything to oppose my imprisonment for life" is accurate and comports with the facts.

With our appreciation and deepest thanks,
Esther and Jonathan Pollard

FOIA DOC: Conference of Presidents Letter to U.S. Secretary of State Betraying Pollard

J4JP Release - November 18, 2002

The following document, dated March 10, 1987 - six days after Jonathan Pollard was <http://www.jonathanpollard.org/sentences.htm>sentenced to life in complete violation of a plea agreement which Pollard honored and the Government abrogated - was recently obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). If ever there were a green light from the leadership of the Jewish community to the American Government to do with Pollard as it wished, this is it.
It is a letter written by Morris Abram, chairman of the Conference of Presidents to George Shultz Secretary of State, pledging the support of the Jewish community while clearly signaling that the Pollard issue is of no consequence to the Jews.
Abram, not Shultz, insists that Pollard not be allowed to interfere with the American Government's Middle East agenda. He assures Shultz unequivocally - though in not so many words - that that no matter what the government may do to Pollard, there will be no protest from the American Jewish community or its leaders. Not content to leave it at that, Abram also signals his intention to enlist the Government of Israel and thereby ensure a united front in the abandonment of Jonathan Pollard.
This letter documents the on-going betrayal Jonathan Pollard has suffered at the hands of the American Jewish leadership - a betrayal that continues to this very day.

Conference of Presidents
of Major American Jewish Organizations
515 Park Avenue
Morris B. Abram
Chairman
Malcolm I. Hoenlein
Executive Director

March 10, 1987
The Honorable George P. Shultz
Secretary of State
State Department
Washington, DC 20520
Dear Mr. Secretary:
I think it is appropriate that you know my feelings (as Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations) on the Pollard affair; so therefore, I am enclosing a copy of a Press Release issued today. During the period of your stewardship of the Department of State, our country's stance has dramatically improved to the extent that I now believe that it will bear diplomatic fruit. Also, under this Administration, the American presence in the Middle East is more forcibly apparent because of the doctrine of strategic cooperation with Israel. In my judgment, and I believe in yours as well, it would be contrary to the interest of the United States were the Pollard affair allowed to unravel, in any respect, what you have so painstakingly developed.
I am off to Israel Saturday, where I shall convey the feelings I have expressed in the enclosed statement to the Prime Minister and others in the Israeli government. When I return, I hope I will have the opportunity of discussing these matters with you, for I will welcome your advice.
With deep respect, I am,
Sincerely,
(signed)
Morris B. Abram

Hello All
As someone who grew up in Iran, and lived under the current regime for 8 years, it was still very difficult for me to watch the attached slideshow. I feel it is important to see and feel how people are treated under this oppressive regime and make every effort to stand up to them and spread the news. These are women, children and men just like us and they have a right to be treated better even if they have done something wrong.

Please use discretion since the images are very graphic and I thank Leah for sharing this video.

Hope you will never have like this in your lifetimeto experience or witness anything

THe Land of Your Possession by Rabbi David Algaze - I love it

bs"d

Thank you Evelyn Haze for forwarding to me!  This is also a message for those living in Eretz Yisroel.  Unfortunately, many times, those that have sacrificed it all to live in Eretz Yisroel are harsh on us nebechs here in Chutz Laaretz for not making Aliya or even if we did make Aliya, for remaining in the Golus.  Some go as far as to say, when you make Aliya, then you can speak up.   Your voice is not important, your body is.

This distinction, this holier than thou attitude can have many negative consequences.  The biggest problem is that it gives an excuse to the one living in the Diaspora not to speak up and to remain Silent regarding claiming Eretz Yisroel.  They say, even though I feel terrible about the events in Israel, what right do I have to speak up.  My children don't fight in the army.  We haven't made the sacrifices of Israeli citizens.  This attitude strengthens the divide of Jew vs. Israeli.

Our rights to Eretz Yisroel is because we are the seed of Avraham Yitzchok and Yaakov.  The  entitlement of a Jew in the Diaspora is no different and not less than the Israeli citizen.

Hashem is waiting for each and every Jew to claim Eretz Yisroel as a necessary component of their Judaism.  Collectively we are lacking when the majority of Jews do not see relevance of Eretz Yisroel to the practice of Torah and Mitzvoth.  This is why I believe we were collectively undeserving to keep Gush Katif. The settlers themselves are the most worthy people in the world.  Because if there would have been an outroar of the Jews in the Diaspora as to how can you give away OUR Land and how can we be Silent in the Diaspora as talks of giving away Judea and Samaria and Yerushalayim are taking place it shows that we don't yearn or long for Eretz Yisroell as we should and we don't really believe that it is ours or that we are truly entitled.   Because if we truly believed it is our precious gift, we would fight tooth and nail to keep our precious gift.

Please forward.

THE LAND OF YOUR POSSESSION

By Rabbi David Algaze

"When you arrive in the land of Canaan that I give you as a possession, and I will place a tzara'at affliction upon a house in the land of your possession" (Vayikra 14:34)

The lesions that appear on people's skin, called tzara'at, are afflictions of the soul and are an indication that the person so affected is in reality suffering from a spiritual malaise and is in need of reflection and atonement.  When the same lesions appear on people's houses, itself a supernatural occurrence, a similar sign beckoning the sufferer to repent is created.  Maimonides explains that G-d first punishes a person's property and then, if the person does not pay heed and repent, then G-d afflicts the body.

Why does the law apply only in the land of Israel, as it says "in the land of your possession"?  The Ramban (Nachmanides) explains that this miraculous phenomenon could only occur in the Holy Land, where by virtue of its special nature, G-d's presence and actions could be easily experienced. Since the land possesses such high spiritual qualities, any spiritual flaw is immediately detected and revealed in the state of the land.

The Midrash explains this phenomenon in a radically different way. The function of these lesions appearing as stains on the walls of houses was to reveal the places where the Canaanites had hidden their treasures prior to the invasion by Israel. In His kindness, G-d places an affliction on that spot in the wall where the inhabitants concealed their jewels and thus the Israelites would benefit from those treasures. This explanation makes the 'afflictions' a source of blessing to the owners of those homes and forms part of G-d's participation in the inheriting of the Land by the people of Israel.

This clarifies why the emphasis of the verse on the fact that Israel is the "land of your possession." We have seen the beneficial consequences of the tzara'at lesions for the improvement of a person's spiritual life. Now, we can appreciate G-d's love towards Israel in giving us the land and all the treasures contained in it. From the inception of our history, starting with Abraham, G-d planned that the people of Israel reside in the special land called Canaan and later Israel so that the combination of the spiritual forces of both would result in   a greater light that will illuminate the Universe with more intensity.

Many think that the relationship of the people of Israel to its land is similar to the connection of any nation to its birthplace. Other nations are connected to their ancestral land by virtue of their past or as a vehicle for their national life. Israel, however, is connected to the land by spiritual bonds that transcend history. Even if the people of Israel are away from their land, the land never relates to any other nation and the land awaits its legitimate children, the Jews, forever.  Rav Kook writes, "The land of Israel is not something external to the Jewish nation. Otherwise, one could replace this land with any other, especially with places that are less contested and less dangerous and richer in natural resources. The land of Israel is an organic whole that is deeply connected with the life of the nation and related to its inner existence." (Orot) This emphasis on the "whole" reveals that one cannot distinguish between various parts of the land, that the entire land of Israel possesses a special spiritual quality and that that land is to be the possession of one nation only, the people of Israel.  Our connection to the land does not depend on whether we are there or not, on whether we are the majority of the population or not. This is something the non-Jewish and non-Torah world cannot comprehend.

Rav Shlomo Halevi Alcabetz, author of the Lecha Dodi, writes that our right of the land does not stem from our physical presence there nor is its spiritual energy diminished because we are away. Thus, the possession of the land and our spiritual existence have been bound together from the beginning and this bond will never be severed because that bond is supernatural. When we draw lines and borders between different parts of the land, when we want to keep Tel Aviv or Haifa but are ready to give up Beth Lehem and Hevron, where our history began, we are in fact denying this miraculous bond to the entire land of Israel. It is ironic that, precisely at the time that some Jews are prepared to relinquish parts of the land to others, in that very moment some voices are raised to deny completely the legitimacy of the State of Israel, the unacceptability of the Zionist enterprise and even the historical connection of Israel to this land. However, this phenomenon can be perfectly understood if we appreciate the integrity of Israel's connection to the land. Either it is our land or not, either it is our possession or not. Once we are ready to give away parts of the land, it sends a signal to the world that we are not the real possessors of this land. The world perceives in our readiness to sever our spiritual link with the land, that this land is not ours. This is the reason for the appearance of an intense anti-Israel attitude in the world and the vociferous hostility by our enemies in denying our right to the land.

Throughout our history, the people of Israel knew how to resist attacks on our heritage and history. Our ancestors gave up their lives to insure that our traditions and our Torah did not disappear. Their sacrifices in very dangerous times were very great and they knew when to draw 'red lines' that they were not prepared to cross. Nothing less is demanded of us today. The Torah emphasizes that this land is "for our possession" and is called "the land of your possession." We only ignore these words at our great peril.  As Nachmanides writes concerning the redemption of lands in Israel, "This land cannot be sold in perpetuity, because it is not only yours, you are just residents and transients with Me, for the land belongs to Him and we are just residents alongside Him, and He does not want other nations to settle there except us, to us alone it belongs and to us it will return." These prophetic words were written at the beginning of the 13th century. It would be absurd that in our century, after witnessing so many miracles in the Land, anyone should be prepared to reject the words of this great giant of Torah and betray the sacrifices and dreams of our ancestors.

Update regarding the Halamish brothers -

Please G-d Itzik and Danny will at least be home for Pessach!

Today the Supreme Court received the request for deferment of the prison sentence until a reply is received from the President to the request for a pardon.

This afternoon a reply was received from the Supreme Court Judge, deferring the prison sentence until another decision is given. The State is given 15 days to respond.

The Committee for the release of Itzik and Danny and Women in Green wishes the Halamish family, all the activists and all of Am Yisrael a happy Pessach. This is obviously not the end of the story, but Itzik and Danny will, please G-d, at least be home with their family for Pessach.

Stay tuned for more updates. For those who wish to send emails to Itzik and Danny you can do so by emailing in Hebrew or English

Update regarding the Halamish brothers

Yesterday (Sunday) Yoram Sheftel, a very well known attorney, petitioned the Supreme Court to the brothers' prison sentence until a reply is received from the President to the request for a pardon.Today (14.4.08), a reply was just received deferring the prison sentence until another decision is given.

Please note: When you see future updates about the Halamish brothers you MUST read them quickly and act upon them very quickly (fax, email -- go to courthouse -- whatever you are asked to do). If the brothers, both security officers, do not continue to get alot of very fast-responding help from the public, they will both go to jail for...shooting in the air (a new crime has been born - security officers in Gush Etzion are not even allowed to shoot in the air any more).

Don't be bored on Pessach!

Go to Binyamin! Trips and other events in the area -- see details in the site of the Regional  Council of Binyamin --  http://www.binyamin.org.il/?CategoryID=194&ArticleID=1142.

The day Jericho was captured:

Learn about it by spending a Shabat at Hogla, right near Jericho -- the Shabat right after Pessach (3 May). The famous Erna from the Matteh of Jericho would love to hear from you. Hakafas with shofars will be held on Friday, staying for Shabat is only 150 NIS per person including meals. Bus leaves Binyanei haUma in Jerusalem at 2 PM on Friday. Bring your shofar. The famous Erna from the Matteh of Jericho would love to hear from you; you MUST  register in advance. 0528699300

Returning to Atarot:

Whoops! Atarot is an industrial area and adjoining airport only 11 kilometers from Jerusalem, but the Kadima-Shas Government has gotten confused once again, and intends to give it away to the Palestinian Terror Authority. Fortunately, a veteran activist, Aryeh King, has set up the Keren leAdmot Yisrael (Fund for Land in Israel) to re-establish the Jewish presence in Atarot. The Fund will be inviting the public to Atarot on Sunday 18 May 2008.  In the meantime, couples and families can sign up for caravans -- only 40,000 NIS/couple or family which includes electricity, legal counselling and more. Preference will be given to agricultural families. You can also buy land for $60,000/dunam - please supply 3 references for this purpose however.   israellandfund@gmail.com * 054-3331057 * 02-6223196

Ask Your Kids:

Ask your school-age kids and you will find that they are learning in school, under the auspices of Pikud haOref (the Homeland  Defense branch of the army) about how we are to protect ourselves against rockets. Our children are not learning about the very best method of protecting ourselves against rockets, namely NOT to establish a Palestinian state. After all, P-A-L-E-S-T-I-N-I-A-N  S-T-A-T-E is merely a code word for "rockets on Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem and Ben-Gurion Airport". So, teach your kids this No. 1 important way to defend ourselves (say No to a Palestinian State) and remind them to explain this principles to their friends -- AND to the teacher -- the next time rockets come up for discussion in class. Also, go into the Pikud haOref site: http://www.oref.org.il/110-he/PAKAR.aspx

And ask why the head of Pikud HaOref, Aluf Yair Golan, is not protecting us, by banging on the table insisting that no Palestinian State can come into existence?
