Netanyahu's Dilemma: A Matter of Character

Prof. Paul Eidelberg

PM Netanyahu as well as Israel is confronted by a dilemma which may be stated as follows. Israel's Arab-Muslim population is about 20%, one million, and Israel cannot forcibly expel this hostile population – a veritable "fifth column" – without incurring worldwide condemnation, economic sanctions, and other penalties.

Some political scientists, notably Martin Sherman, have suggested that the Muslims in question be paid to leave Israel. This is hardly a realistic solution since these Muslims are living quite freely and contentedly in this country, where they can continue not only to murder Jews and thus fulfill Islam's highest moral imperative, but where they are also paid for killing Jews by receiving annual grants of hundreds of millions of dollars from the United States, as well as similar rewards from the European Union and Saudi Arabia.

The truth is that killing Jews is the chosen and well-paid vocation of these Muslims, and they are not about to quit a lucrative job which also earns them praise from Allah! Besides, why should they leave the Land of Israel when they have been promised independent statehood in Judea and Samaria, the immemorial heartland of the Jewish people?

Since Israel will not expel her Muslims enemies by force, Israel has no alternative but to induce them to leave voluntarily. There is only one way to do this, and that is to make political and commercial life in Israel so Jewish that most of these Muslims – if they do not wish to assimilate – will want to leave Israel if they can obtain residence (travel paid by Israel) in a Muslim country, one that would profit from their arrival since such Muslims would provide (thanks to Israel) the most educated and technologically skilled Arab immigrants, so much needed in the backward Muslim world.

Unfortunately, this is beyond the mentality of Israel's secular and uninspired Prime Minister, who has gained a reputation by consorting year after year with his counterpart, Palestinian Prime Minister, Mahmoud Abbas, a terrorist dedicated to Israel's destruction.◙
