Dear Friends,

Many of you have been on AFSI Chizuk missions, and for some of you this will be very new. Find below our tentative itinerary for the trip. It remains a work in progress because of the literally shifting sands in Israel. This summer has been a difficult one for all of us who have been "listening" to the red alerts, either on our cell phones or in our minds and hearts. We are one with our beleaguered brothers and sisters in Israel. We have compiled the itinerary below with the realization that new people and new places will demand our attention and we have to be ready to respond. We know that those of you who decide to travel with us will understand the need to make changes when the need or opportunity arises.

Please know that we have also kept the costs to the absolute minimum so that the cost of the trip will not prevent you from joining us. Please read below – call with your questions – request your reservation form – return it with your non-refundable $1000 reservation by Sept. 19 – make your flight arrangements – and be prepared for what promises to be an extra-ordinary experience in our beloved Israel.

All the best,

Helen Freedman and Judy Freedman Kadish (afsi.judy@rcn.com)

CHIZUK ISRAEL MISSION – OCTOBER 26-NOV. 5, 2014 - ITINERARY

Monday, Oct. 27  - Meet  Ami, our good friend and bus driver at 8 AM at Ben Gurion airport. Visit David HaIvri and Gershon Mesika, head of the Shomron Liaison Council. Visit the Barkan Industrial Park where Arabs work alongside Jews. Lunch stop at Har Bracha, enjoying the amazing Shomron vistas. Stand on Har Greezim for an overlook of Shechem and Kever Yosef.  Visit the community of Itamar, home of the murdered Fogel family and meet with Mayor Moshe Goldsmith. Then on to Yitzhar, the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva, and our good friends, Ayelet and Akiva HaCohen . Dinner and overnight in Ariel at Ashel HaShomron Hotel.

Tuesday, Oct. 28 –Morning tour with Tuvia of the extraordinary biblical garden outside the hotel. Our first stop will be at Kfar Tapuach for a meeting with Lenny Goldberg, a leader of the community. We'll then go south to Eli, meeting with residents of the community, and then on to Shilo for a special tour with Batya Medad. Returning to Ariel, we'll visit with a group from the former Gush Katif Netzarim community that has made Ariel their permanent new home. Dinner and overnight in Ariel at Ashel HaShomron Hotel. After dinner meeting with Avi Zimmerman, Executive Director of the community, who will introduce us to the new Mayor of Ariel, Eli Shaviro.

Wednesday, Oct. 29 – Drive southwest to Yesodot to meet Dror Vanunu and Anita Tucker at Netzer Hazani. Then on to Ashdod, the port city that has been targeted by Hamas rockets. We proceed south to the caravan community of Nitzan to meet Rachel & Moshe Saperstein, still in their temporary homes 9 1/2 years after the expulsion from Gush Katif. We'll see and enter the sewer pipe bomb shelters available to the community. We'll visit the Gush Katif Museum and take time to discuss the ramifications of the 2005 expulsion from Gush Katif. Dinner will be at a favorite restaurant in Ashkelon, another beleaguered city, and overnight at the Holiday Inn in Ashkelon. After dinner meetings with residents of Ashkelon for an update on life in the city under the barrage of Hamas rockets. We'll visit a typical bomb shelter in which residents have spent countless hours in response to the red alerts announcing the launching of Hamas rockets.

Thursday, Oct. 30 –We drive south to the Kissufim junction which played an important part in the Gush Katif story. We continue south to visit Yevul and other communities along the Egyptian border. We'll be in the Sha'ar HaNegev regional council area and meet with leaders there. Sdot Negev, the home of Daniel Tregerman, 4 yr. old victim of a bombing, will be one of our stops. We'll see the exits of Hamas tunnels, designed to come right into Jewish communities for wholesale slaughter. Driving east, we arrive at the Air Force Museum near Be'er Sheva. If time permits, we will visit the city and speak with the residents about life under the rockets and the red alert. We return to Ashkelon for dinner and overnight at the Holiday Inn. Ari Briggs, head of Regavim, and an expert on Israel's southern region, will be our speaker for the evening.

Friday, Oct. 31 – Ari Briggs has arranged a morning meeting with Rav Shatz, head of security for the Gaza region, to gain a better understanding of conditions during Operation Protective Edge. We'll learn more about the Hamas tunnels and life under threat in the region. We'll drive to Yad Mordechai, which had an interesting history during the 2005 expulsion period, and then to the Erez border crossing into Gaza. We'll have lunch in Sderot and then proceed to the Hesder Yeshiva there.  All the rooms there are new, and can serve as shelters. Mayor Alon Davidi will greet us, along with Rabbi David Fendel for Shabbat and overnight at the Sderot Yeshiva.

Saturday, Nov. 1 – Morning Lech Lecha services at the Yeshiva. After Shabbat lunch we will do a walking tour in Sderot, meeting with some of the families who have endured the thousands of Hamas rocket attacks.  After Shalosh Seudot and Havdalah, we will visit one of the army bases near the city where we will meet with the soldiers and learn what we can do to help them best once we return to the U.S. Overnight again at the Yeshiva in Sderot.

Sunday, Nov. 2 – We'll drive east to Hebron, visiting with David Wilder,   Noam Arnon,  and the Hebron community. Driving north through Judea, we'll meet Nadia Matar and Yehudit Katzover, leaders of Women in Green,  at the new community, Oz V'Gaon, created in memory of Gilad, Eyal, and Naftali who were kidnapped and murdered by Hamas. After lunch in Efrat, we'll visit Mother Rachel at Kever Rachel in Bethlehem. We continue driving north to Jerusalem for overnight at the King Solomon hotel. After dinner at leisure in Jerusalem, perhaps at restaurants conveniently located near the hotel, we will reconvene at the hotel to meet with Arieh King, Jerusalem Council Member.

Monday, Nov. 3 –Early morning visit to the Temple Mount with Rabbi Chaim Richman, where an ISIS flag was recently pictured flying. Those who don't wish to participate will have a leisurely morning, joining with the group again at the King Solomon at 11 A.M. Chaim Silberstein of One Jerusalem will meet us for a tour of hotly contested east Jerusalem, including the former Atarot airport. Afternoon visits at the Knesset with Members of Knesset to hear about post-war planning. Group dinner at Mamilla and City of David Light Show. Overnight at the King Solomon.

Tuesday, Nov. 4 – Meet with Jeff Daube for an update on the current situation in Jerusalem.  Visit the Mount of Olives and stop to visit Beit Orot, seeing the progress they are making with their building project.  Dan Luria of Ateret Cohanim will take us on his whirlwind tour of the old city, and outlying areas in Eastern Jerusalem. We will have our gala dinner at a restaurant in Jerusalem and then depart for Ben Gurion airport. Those not flying out that night may return to Jerusalem with Ami, or make their own plans for the rest of their time in Israel.

The cost of the trip, double occupancy, not including airfare, is $2000. Single occupancy cost is $2600. This will cover all your hotels, most meals, private bus and driver, guided tours everywhere, and special events. Participants MUST make their own flight arrangements. It is important to note that THE GROUP WILL MEET AT BEN GURION AIRPORT AT 8 A.M. MONDAY MORNING, OCT. 27. The trip ends the night of Nov. 4 when travelers will be taken back to Ben Gurion by 9 P.M., in time for late night flights.  Regardless of whether you arrive in Israel before our trip begins, or plan to stay longer, it is essential that you know the parameters of the mission.

Non-refundable reservations of $1000  must be made by September 19, with full payment by October 15. Payment may be made with checks made out to Americans for a Safe Israel/AFSI, credit cards, or paypal, available on the www.afsi.orgwebsite.

Aharon Sofer - American Yeshiva student in Jerusalem still missing

After more than 3 days of seareching by hundreds of volunteer yeshiva students in the Jerusalem forest, Aharon Sofer, the American Yeshiva student still remains missing. Despite pin-point information about where Sofer was last seen Friday at noon, he has still not been found.

Sofer and his friend Akiva were descending a steep hill-path towards Bet Ziet, when Aharon decided to turn back up the trail to a nearby road several hundred feet higher.

Some people connected to the search  think that Aharon may have been kidnapped, after returning to the nearby road, G-d forbid.

Our Canine Unit has been out since Saturday night searching for Aharon. We have literally been sleeping in the field, and working under very difficult weather conditions in the intense heat.

One squad has remained in the area to continue to aid in the search.

In the meantime I am now on my way with several dog-handlers and 4 dogs to Ashdod to aid in the search for Aida Kaitnick a 72 year old woman who has been missing since Saturday.

http://www.israel-civilian-k9-unit.org/missing-people---150415061491151214971501/missing-aina-kaitnik

WE NEED MORE DOGS AND MORE VOLUNTEERS...ISRAEL IS ILL EQUIPPED TO HANDCLE THESE RANDOM SEARCHES NOT TO MENTION COLLAPSED BUILDINGS G-D FORBID. It is a miracle that more buildings have noto collapsed under the recent barrage of rockets fired by Arab terrorists.

Anyone wishing to join us call 0544876709

Donations are also needed and more than welcome - Maginei Eretz POB6592 Jerusalem, Israel

August 26, 2014

By Helen Freedman:

I offer a very sincere message of thanks to Barbara Moretsky and Eugene Greenstein of the West Bloomfield Hills community in Detroit, Michigan, for hosting Richard Allen and me so warmly this past Monday night, August 25. With dear AFSI/Chizuk friend Rae Sharfman joining us, we were given a very special view of the dedicated, intelligent, impassioned Jewish membership of Detroit. Richard and I both agreed that speaking to the group of about 300 people at the JCC, and using a power point prepared by AFSI Chizuk Rochester, NY Chair Leon Szmedra, the experience was incredibly rewarding. Our topics, Israel's Enemies Within and Without, covered the BDS enemies as well as ISIS, Hamas, the PLO, Iran, and the global anti-Semites. Once again, Jabotinsky's IRON WALL was asserted, calling for MILITARY VICTORY to bring about peace. Anything less emboldens the enemy and extends his grasp. See below:

Northern Israel now under attack
By: Victor Sharpe

During Shabbat (the Jewish Sabbath) 100 rockets were aimed at Israel sounding sirens in all villages, towns and cities in the south of Israel and around Gaza, including Beer Tuvia, Gan Yavne, Netivot, Kiryat Malachi, Hof Ashkelon and the Eshkol District.
The dining room of the same kibbutz, Nahal Oz. where 4 year old Daniel Tregerman lost his life, was hit with no injuries as many people are evacuating the south as Hamas's rocket fire is increasing. Two people were injured in Beer Sheva when a mortar hit a parking lot.
The center of Israel endured rocket attacks early this evening with sirens in Ramat Gan, Holon and Bat Yam. Iron Dome intercepted one rocket over Petah Tikvah and three over Ashkelon. Agricultural equipment and houses have been destroyed in the south and fires have been caused by the exploding missiles.
Tonight the Hamas gunmen are equipping themselves with suicide belts in their underground tunnels and preparing booby traps in orchards, as the word on the ground is that Israel is preparing for another ground offensive.
Abbas has returned from Qatar to Cairo with the news that the Qataris, who fund Hamas, are encouraging the Islamists to expand their war on Israel and no deal is possible. In the early hours a couple of rockets fired at Israel from Lebanon put the north on high alert.
Two children were among the 23 treated for shock and injury. A holiday village in the western Galilee was hit, but with no reported injuries.
In the last few hours, five rockets have been fired into Israel from Syria. It is unclear if this is a synchronized attack to support the next aggression from Gaza or if it is just a random show of sympathy for Hamas.
The only thing that is clear is that Hamas is pulling Israel into all out war and they are not perturbed by the cost; neither politically nor human.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Victor Sharpe:

The IDF must use tanks and artillery to incrementally advance a withering bombardment yard by yard - without sending counter-productive leaflets and text messages to a Gaza population that has proven itself willing executioners of Hamas barbarism. This will minimize IDF infantry losses.
The people of Israel cannot, and must not, continue to endure this hell on earth from the Islamo-Nazi pestilence that occupies Gaza.
At the same time, Israel must rebuild its Jewish villages in Gush Katif and annex portions of both the northern and southern areas (including the Philadelphi corridor) of the Gaza Strip. Hamas aggression must be seen as having created Jewish facts on the ground - the very thing the Islamic world most fears.
But does Netanyahu, and too many of those who surround him, have the intestinal fortitude to tough it out and do the job irrespective of the baleful influence of Obama and the Islamist whorehouse that is the United Nations?

RONN TOROSSIAN ASKS:

Mr. Prime Minister: what is your vision? Security is not being accomplished as rockets keep flying. There's surely not peace. What gives Mr. Prime Minister? Surely, the people of Israel are not asking for too much to demand that Israel lives without the constant fear of attacks. Jews worldwide understand you are under tremendous pressure - and count on you to protect the Jewish State. Please, protect our people.

Mr. Netanyahu, channel your inner Ze'ev Jabotinsky, who wisely noted many years ago, "We were not created in order to teach morals and manners to our enemies. Let them learn these things for themselves before they establish relations with us. We want to hit back at anybody who harms us. Whoever does not repay a blow by a blow is also incapable of repaying a good deed in kind. Only something who can hate his enemies can be a faithful friend to those who love him."

The people of Israel demand the crushing of Hamas. Let the citizens of Israel have peace and quiet.

A FAMOUS QUOTE FROM WINSTON CHURCHILL:

"You ask, What is our policy? I will say; 'It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy.' You ask, What is our aim? I can answer with one word: Victory-victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival."

CALENDAR OF EVENTS - YOU ARE INVITED AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND!

TONIGHT through Monday, Sept. 1 - Lincoln Center Outdoor Free HD Opera - 6- 8 PM

A coalition of concerned groups and citizens has been working all summer to persuade managing director of the Metropolitan Opera, Peter Gelb (212-799-3100x2891) to cancel the scheduled performances of the pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic opera, "The Death of Klinghoffer."  The PLO murder of Klinghoffer in 1985 because he was a Jew,  has now spread to a wave of anti-Semitism across Europe and the Middle East. The PLO terrorism has grown into Hamas, ISIS, and a host of terrorist organizations, so that we witness the beheading of an American by ISIS and the Islamic threat to bring that terrorism to America. In the face of that,  how can Peter Gelb ask us to attend an opera that promotes anti-Semitism and "sympathy for the terrorists"? Are we to "consider their humanity" when they cold-bloodedly sacrifice human beings on the altar of their fanatical beliefs?
Please join with AFSI, ZOA, JCC Watch and all concerned citizens in distributing leaflets and flyers decrying this opera. We will be there every night, from 6-8 P.M., as people are arriving by the hundreds to attend the free outdoor HD performances, most of which start at 8 P.M.
Look for leaders to be on the sidewalk outside Lincoln Center with flyers. Get your supply and help with the distribution. Speak to opera goers who might not understand the situation. Call AFSI for additional information: 212-828-2424; afsi@rcn.com. We seek everyone's participation.

Monday, Sept. 8 - from 1:15 - 2:30 pm

The Engr. Aja Eze Foundation in collaboration with the Permanent Missions to the United Nations of Palau, Israel, and Argentina will be hosting the High Level panel discussion:

"Global Anti Semitism: A Threat to International Peace and Security."

Our Chairman, Mark Langfan will be one of the panelists at this conference.
The meeting will be held in the ECOSOC Chamber of the Conference Bldg. at UN
RSVP is required to: ugojiaeze@gmail.com

Tuesday, September 9th-  7:30pm  - AFSI's first meeting of the fall season, again at the home of AFSI Chairman Mark Langfan, will feature Matan Peleg CEO, and Doug Altabef, Board member, of Im Tirtzu. Im Tirtzu's main objectives focus on working towards a renewal of the Zionist discourse, Zionist thinking and Zionist ideology. A major portion of Im Tirtzu's efforts is devoted to combating the campaign of de-legitimization against the State of Israel and to providing responses to Post-Zionist and Anti-Zionist phenomena.
Yuval Granot, son of AFSI's founder Shmuel Katz, will be an added guest speaker. You may remember he was denied a visa in time to be with us at the Ze'ev Jabotinsky memorial on August 12. He now has a visa and is making a special trip to meet AFSI's members.
RSVP required - afsi.judy@rcn.com, 212-828-2424. Since the meeting is at a private home, and a light supper is served, reservations are limited. Make yours now before the list is closed.

Monday, September 22, 5pm - Lincoln Center, NYC  -  City-wide  anti-terror demonstration on the opening night of the Metropolitan Opera House season. The Met is scheduled to present the anti-Semitic and pro-terrorist opera, "The Death of Klinghoffer", which tells the story of the PLO murder of an elderly Jewish man in 1985. To date, Met director Peter Gelb has refused to cancel the opera despite strong opposition. All who object to terror should call Peter Gelb at 212-799-3100 x 2891 to insist that he cancel the opera. Plan to be at Lincoln Center on the 22nd. More info to follow.

REGISTER NOW:
AFSI's Chizuk Mission to Israel - OCT. 26-NOV. 5, 2014

This mission will underscore the Chizuk purpose which always seeks to give strength to our Israeli brothers and sisters where it is most needed. In this time of war, we are modifying the itinerary so that we can stand in solidarity with those people and communities who have suffered the most during the relentless shelling from Hamas in Gaza.  Reservations are now being taken: 212-828-2424; afsi@rcn.com, afsi.judy@rcn.com.  See www.afsi.org for reports on previous trips, and itinerary for October-November trip. From the videos below of  Yazidi's escaping, it seems quite clear that these people are decent people and they care about each other.

Are Yazidi's Possibly  from 10 Lost Tribes?

http://dream-prophecy.blogspot.com/2008/08/kurds-and-lost-tribes-of-israel.html  ...So where do these Kurds come from? One theory is that they may actually be the 10 lost tribes of Israel. The Jews of today are descended from the two southern tribes (Judah and Benjamin), but the ten northern tribes were conquered by Assyria in the 8th century B.C., and settled in the exact same area where the Kurds dwell. The Yazidi religion traces their descent from Adam, moreover they have a yearly pilgrimage in the month of September/October, which is the same time as one of the Jewish festivals required Jews to attend the temple in Jerusalem. Ancient Israel did not follow Jewish laws: instead they reverted to paganim, and worshipped an ox instead - which would be another explanation for their sacrifice of an ox.

Fwd: Call for Action from Nachi Eyal Legal Forum For Israel

Call for Action

Dear Friends,

We are writing to request your assistance in preempting international attempts to condemn Israel for alleged war crimes in Gaza.

As in the days prior to the Goldstone investigation, Israel is currently being subjected to an intense and malicious propaganda campaign in the international media, including by leading international organizations and personalities.

This campaign is predicated inter alia upon unfounded accusations of war crimes. It is fueled by tragic graphic images supplied by Hamas propaganda, aimed at influencing international public opinion and decision makers. The ultimate goal of this campaign is to isolate and delegitimize Israel, effectively preventing it from taking the necessary security measures. Only very sparse reports expose the falsehood of Hamas reports and its use of civilian population as human shields, including the launching of rockets from heavily populated areas. UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has already accused Israel of war crimes during the current military operation, while UN Human Rights Council has decided to launch an investigation of Israel's alleged violations of international law.

As anticipated, despite inherent justification for Israel's defensive actions against Hamas, the propaganda campaign is successfully swaying public opinion and creating a hostile anti-Israel climate.  Needless to say, these sentiments also serve to fuel anti-Semitism in countries around the world, including attacks on local Jewish communities.

The current media and UN attacks on Israel are a clear sign that we are heading towards a replay of the Goldstone Report affair. As you undoubtedly recall, in the aftermath of Israel's Operation Cast Lead in 2009, the UN investigated and condemned Israel for war crimes, sending shock-waves of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic feelings throughout the world.  Although Richard Goldstone later recanted, the damaged had already been done.

It is our collective responsibility to prevent this from happening. Our concerted efforts now can thwart the condemnation of Israel and the subsequent fermentation of intense hatred towards Israel and the Jewish People.

The attached legal brief, written by Alan Baker, former Israeli ambassador to Canada, summarizes pertinent legal issues, detailing the extent of war crimes committed by Hamas as well as Israel's extraordinary efforts to abide by international humanitarian laws.

The Legal Forum for Israel urges all jurists, as well as its supporters who are not jurists, to use this paper in their interactions with politicians, media, legislators, community leaders, and the general public, whether through op-ed pieces, media interviews, or other means.

Furthermore, the Legal Forum's International Action Division is establishing a global task force of jurists and legal experts with the aim of protecting Israel from legal attacks waged in the international legal arena.

If you would like to join the effort and the Legal Forum International Action Division please review the attached legal brief and outline of suggested methods of action. Furthermore, please contact Einat Korman at office@haforum.org.il for assistance and coordination.

Sincerely,

Nachi Eyal

Executive Director
