Judicial Reform and the IDF

Bsd

Lichvod Rabbi Yitzchok Dovid Smith and Rabbi Shimon Chyrek, Shlita

Thank you for all that you do and have done on behalf of Am Yisroel.

I read the week's roundup

Week's Roundup - How to understand high intensity conflicts and the Marxist phony dialectics they serve - Case Study - Israeli Judicial Reform

listened to the video regarding justice reform.

Case study - Judicial Reform in Israel: How Marxist Phony Dialectics Divert us from G-d & our fellow

I hear the argument that evil forces, (Rabbi Smith calls it Marxist Communism phony dialectic), controls both sides.

I agree that the leftist anti judicial reform comes from a desire to control Israel.

I agree that Netanyahu is compromised and his agenda is not searching for Truth and Justice but rather simply to keep himself in power. He has lied to both sides. He too is a puppet.

I would suggest to continue your work namely that fighting for Truth and Justice based on Torah and yearning for Malchut Shamayim, and working to educate  the world regarding observing the Sheva Mitzvoth Bnei Noach and Universal morality, is the way to move forward.

Rabbi Smith In the past, spoke out powerfully against getting bogged down with all the scary news out there such as dangers facing  humanity via scientifically genetically modifying humans etc...

Rabbi Smith  said that Marxist Communist phony dialectics infiltrates both sides to create disunity and war.

Let us do a Paradigm shift.

Hashem has empowered both the leftists and Netanyahu.

Rabbi Smith suggested in the past, not to take either side  and not to fear all the terrible news that points to either side under the influence of the side of evil.

I remember writing back that indeed we need to acknowledge their great power to do evil but at the same time say Ein Od Milvado.

The same with the 2 political forces fighting for and against Judicial Reform.

Bh for Torah. Torah will dissipate the evil.

I would like to see a G-dly force of people seeking  Truth and justice as defined by Torah  and Halacha. We need leaders like yourself to lead and focus on Truth and Justice and the Sheva Mitzvoth.  Torah is the only answer and the only true Justice Reform that could exist untainted by  external evil forces.

Powerful political forces have infiltrated the IDF military and private companies in Israel and Israeli government and educational institutions etc....and they are rebelling against Hashem.  We need to fight back.

This unfortunately probably will backlash big time as we see in the case with the media and courts and IDF and Police and prosecution framing  Settler hilltop youth with slander and blood libels attempting to destroy them them with character assassination in the media painting a false narrative of  "Jewish terrorism".

From their perspective, Torah fighting Jews are the most dangerous people out there. Especially the ones that demand courts based on Torah.

The creme de la creme, idealistic Hilltop Youth bh can not be easily bought. Of course evil forces try their best to infiltrate and since that doesn't work that well have resorted to framing, provoking, torture, blood libels and slander.

Let us collectively stand up against their immoral blood libels and Administrative Detention and unlawful incarceration. Let us not be afraid  to base our arguments  on Torah for Jew and Non Jew. Let us somehow educate the world to emulate Almighty G-d and His Attributes and that Torah is looking for Truth and Justice and mercy and Righteousness not only for Jews but for non Jews alike..

Both Jews and non Jews need real evidence of wrongdoing before locking anyone up under the pretext they are dangerous and ticking time bombs based on the say so of enemies from within or without who have no case to speak of...

Torturing  Arabs to extract confession is not permissible.

Moshiach will usher an era of Peace and Prosperity. Wasn't the Sanhedrin stationed in the Bais HaMikdash on Temple Mount in the H-ly Temple itself?   Didn't Yisro suggest a court of righteous judges and discouraged Moshe Rabbeinu from judging alone?

Is Moshiach a pre requisite for the Sanhedrin or is the yearning for Hoshiva Shofteinu a prerequisite for Moshiach?

Regarding the IDF and Sheirut Leumi a similar situation. Let us teach what a kosher Jewish army is about. How must a Jewish soldier act?

The Jews were counted in the Midbar according to Yotzei Tzava. 20-60.

Surely then Hashem supports a Jewish Army. Countless examples in Tanach.  Shevet Gad and Reuvein, Shirat Devora all called for the entire nation to participate in the conquering of the land. What about the Mitzvoth DOrayta incumbent  on a Jewish soldier. Surely there wouldn't be any such mitzvoth if a Jewish army is a bad thing ?

True the IDF has been infiltrated. But we still need a jewish army. We cant throw out the baby with the bathwater. We need to educate re Torah and Halacha when it comes to fighting our enemies.

Let us not be afraid to speak out for a Torah units in the IDF that do not brainwash its soldiers and for a prototype Torah State in Judea and Samaria run by Torah Law with militias and the ability to successfully defend ourselves from enemy attackers.

The present situation has deteriorated placing the Jews living in Judea and Samaria in real danger, in Hebrew, Sakonas nefoshos.

Being cruel to the merciful, namely cruel toward innocent hilltop settlers, and merciful to the cruel, namely attacking Arabs, for political brownie points, is against Torah and also against common sense and standard military protocol.

Rabbi Rosenblum writes:  Mishpacha 22 Shevat 5775/February 11, 2015 page 27

"No issue was fought more passionately by Israel's chareidi community in the 1950s than the national service for women. The gedolim of Eretz Yisrael ruled that attempts to enlist women of draft age even in nonmilitary, national service frameworks, created a prohibition of yehareg v'al yaavor - one must give up his life rather than transgress.

Prime Minister Golda Meir once asked Rav Yaakov Kamentesky why the gedolim so strongly forbade the national service option for women. Rab Yaakov replied that no unmarried, young woman may ever be subject to the authority of someone other than her father, and especially not someone who is not shomer mitzvos.

I'm pretty confident that Golda Meir found that particular explanation more than a little implausible, old-fashioned and unduly suspicious of the behavior of the IDF commanders.

My friend and mentor Rabbi Shmuel  Kuperwasser pointed out to me last week more confirmation - not that any was needed - that the old rabbis were not naive. In the past year, seven high-ranking police commanders have resigned amidst scandal - four in bribery scandals and three in cases involving harassment of female employees often many such employees - under their command. A fourth district commander is also under investigation on harassment charges.

Inspector General Yohanan Danino admits that "the police department is in need of root canal work." And indeed the series of scandals has badly shaken public trust in the police. But at least it should have reinforced public trust in the rabbanim."

Dear Editor and Mr. Rosenblum,

Were these Sheirut Leumi girls?

This is my first hand knowledge of Sheirut Leumi. '

I lived in Kiryat Arbain the 1980s and the Kindergartens, schools,  Matnas and Medrasha depended on Sheirut Leumi for their operation for the benefit of the community.  It would have been very difficult to pay for these much needed services otherwise.  Are you implying that working in schools, kindergartens, Medrasha, Matnas etc. can be dangerous to our girls?

On a very personal level, my daughter had a very positive Sheirut Leumi experience working for L''Maan Achai in Beit Shemesh servicing also the Chareidi community helping out in a Moadon for young girls ages 7-12 who came from disadvantaged homes.  Twice a week she cooked lunch and the rest of the time she was a big sister to some of these girls and other times worked in the after school Moadon.  Her co worker supervisor was a marriedChareidi Breslov women with a large family, a wonderful role model and friend for my daughter.  My daughter also became close to many of the office staff (female) who befriended her etc.  I am sure she also came in contact with males, who ran the program, like a sweet elderly volunteer gentleman of L'Maan Achai who always sampled her meals and complemented her on them or perhaps those who advised on how to handle finances in a responsible manner as he advised the clients of L'maan Achai.

My daughter also helped with distribution of Mishloach Manot and Kimche D'Pischa.

I'm not quite sure how this environment is any different than any Chareidi charitable organization and I am very upset that you are portraying Sheirut Leumi in a blanket negative light.

Do you have any evidence whatsoever that the girls involved in the police scandal were indeed from Sheirut Leumi?????

In addition, Motzei Shem Ra seemed to be the case also with the Chareidi Draft.

THE FAILURE OF ORTHODOX JEWRY Israel Kaplan

According to Rav Yisachar Shiomo Teichtal, a Torah giant, the Holocaust, to which he himself fell victim, was very much a consequence of the failure of Europe's orthodox Jewish leaders to heed the teachings of the Prophets and the Sages to redeem Eretz Yisrael when even Gentiles—recall the Balfour Declaration and the League of Nations—supported the return of the Jews to their ancient homeland. He blames rabbis who, by denouncing secular Zionism and opposing immigration to Israel—aliya—discouraged Jews from fulfilling their sacred obligation to return to and rebuild the Land of Israel and thereby sanctify God's Name.

Fleeing from the Nazis, and writing in 1943 without books and while Jews were perishing around him, Rav Teichtal composed an extraordinary work entitled Eim Habanim Semeichah (A Joyous Mother of Children)2 There he cites an incredible number of Torah, Talmudic, and post-Talmudic sources showing that "the purpose of our afflictions is to arouse us to return to Eretz Yisrael." These sources all speak of the crucial importance of the Holy Land. They show that the redemption of the Jewish people can only take place in the Land of Israel.

Rav Teichtal goes further. Contrary to what he had learned from contemporary rabbis and had himself believed prior to the Holocaust, he shows that the secular Zionists were deserving of great praise; for even though they denied the Torah, they were fulfilling the commandment to return to and rebuild the Land of Israel. What is more, further research on his part revealed that many of the great halachic authorities—experts in Jewish law— predicted that secularists would restore the Holy Land! How is it possible, therefore, that learned orthodox rabbis failed to heed the teachings of Torah masters—Rav Teichtal cites Maimonides (the Rambam) and Nachmanides (the Ramban)—regarding the mitzvah of settling in and rebuilding Eretz Yisrael?

To begin with, let us be fair and recall that, in the closing years of the nineteenth century and the early years of the twentieth, the venerable beliefs and customs of the Jewish people had come under the ideological assault of the Socialist and Communist movements along with that of secular Zionism. The defections from tradition, especially in urban areas, were massive. On the surface, therefore, orthodox rabbis had good reasons to oppose the shallow secular Zionism initiated by Theodore Herzl's The Jewish State. They saw in this Zionism the denial of the Sinai Covenant and the chosenness of the Jewish People. Secular Zionists, influenced by the egalitarianism of the Enlightenment, regarded all nations as equal. They rejected the idea that the Jews were "a nation apart." And yet, had not Jews lived and died for their apartness? Did not the deepest instincts of the Jews call for difference and distance? In contrast, the Zionists envisioned a state in which the Jews would become a "normal" people. No longer would they suffer the scourge of anti- Semitism, of pogroms and humiliation. The dignity of the despised Chosen. People would be restored—note the paradox—and at last they would live in peace and security.

To become a "normal" people, however, the Torah, which had sustained and inspired the Jews for thousands of years, would have to be relegated to the home and the synagogue. Jews would then have a new national identity. Judaism would be divorced from public law, would cease to be an all- comprehensive way of life. This was anathema to the rabbis. Besides, they believed that a Zionist state based on non-Torah law could not possibly succeed or endure.

Now it so happens that, three decades before Herzl's pioneering work, certain rabbis did in fact encourage aliya. In 1864, Rabbi Tzvi Kalischer published a book, Derishat Tzion, which was praised by various halachic authorities for its proposed "Organization for the Settlement of Eretz Yisrael." Mention should also be made of the Chofetz Chaim, Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaCohen, one of the greatest Torah scholars of modem times. (His unparalleled halachic work, the Mishnah Berura, is the definitive compendium of Jewish law.) Even in the aftermath of the 1929 Hebron massacre, the Chofetz Chaim encouraged aliya. He held that "there is no Torah like the Torah of Eretz Yisrael, and there is no wisdom like the wisdom of Eretz Yisrael" (Bereisheet Rabbah, Numbers 16:7). Nevertheless, when Rav Teichtal wrote Eim Habanim Semeichah, so prevalent was anti-Zionism among European rabbis that he was compelled to cite the halachic authorities that had endorsed Kalischer's work in the hope of persuading other rabbis to encourage aliya and thereby save as many Jews as possible from the Nazi inferno.

Without wishing to malign these rabbis and thereby arm the wicked, Rav Teichtal nonetheless compared them to the Ten Spies, about whom it says in Psalms 106:24-25: "They murmured in their tents... They despised the desirable Land" and thus discouraged the Children of Israel from entering the Land promised to the Patriarchs. Although the spies were princes of Israel, Rav Teichtal cites various sources that explain their behavior as motivated by self-interest: they were afraid that in Eretz Yisrael they would lose the positions of leadership they held in the desert! (See the Zohar 3:158a.) "The same holds true in our times," says Rav Teichtal "even of rabbis, rebbes, and chassidim. This one has a good rabbinical position; this one is an established Admor [a prominent Torah master]; and this one has a profitable business or factory or a prestigious job which provides great satisfaction. They are afraid that their status will decline if they go to Eretz Yisrael. People of this sort [though otherwise meritorious] are influenced by their deep-rooted, selfish motives to such an extent that they themselves do not realize that their prejudice speaks on their behalf."

Rav Teichtal quotes numerous sources that extol the great merit of Eretz Yisrael. The Talmud: "He who dwells in Eretz Yisrael is like one who has a God, and he who dwells outside the Land is like one who does not have a God" (Ketuvot llOb). The Midrash: "It is preferable to dwell in the deserts of Eretz Yisrael than the palaces of Chutz LaAretz" (Bereisheet Rabbah, Genesis 39:8). The Zohar. "I will return in peace to my father's home, for there lays the Holy Land, there I will be perfected . . ." (l:150b).

Does it not say in Genesis 15:7: "I am the Lord who brought you [Abraham] out of Ur-Kasdim to give you this Land to inherit it"? The Talmud expresses this as follows: "The Land of Israel is an inheritance from our forefathers" (Avodah Zara 53b). Therein is the basis of the Jewish claim to Eretz Yisrael. Now, if Rav Teichtal, a man of extraordinary learning, courage, and love of the Jewish people, could question the motives of prominent rabbis who denounced secular Zionism and thereby discouraged Jews from leaving the fleshpots of Europe for Eretz Yisrael, what shall we say of the descendants of those who established the State of Israel and who now wish to abandon Judea and Samaria, the heartland of the Jewish people? Are their motives any purer?

Fwd: Letter to Rav Porush re:IDF from Shmuel Koenig

Bsd

Dear MK Porush, amvsh

The ideas expressed in Shmuel Koenig's  email below re: the necessity of a Jewish army is one that is consistent with Torah.   A majority of Jews, Chareidi, Dati Leumi, modern Orthodox and secular all agree with Israel's need for an IDF especially when under intense rocket attack.

Why when there have been mass demonstrations against a Chareidi Draft, hundreds of thousands of G-d fearing Jews mobilized,  this distinction of a having a Machanecha Kadosh is not made? At these rallies, the Govt of Israel is slandered by allegations that the army uproots Yiddishkeit with Pritzus etc and that justifies no participation in the army altogether.

Will we throw the baby out with the bathwater?

The massacre of Har Nof could have been greatly reduced without a 7 minute wait till a Druze officer came on the scene.

The Gerrer Chosid from Ashdod was hit no different than other innocent civilians.

Pritzus in the army was not at fault. Amalek on the other hand probably was.

Re:  Sanhedrin.   The time has come to use our Gevura to initiate change in the Israel Judicial System to one that is respectful of Hebraic Law, Torah Shebichtav and Torah Shebaal Peh as per the Resolution of the Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah in Marienbad in 1937.

The present Israel Supreme Court is corrupt, self perpetuating and hostile to Torah with a leftist progressive agenda.

We need an army.

However, the army has to be "machanecha kadosh"

If we join the army and unite all of klal yisrael, it will bring a bracha on all the people.

When we negotiate with likud, we should not oppose joining the army; however we should demand that it be kadosh.

Members of the moetzet gedolai hatorah Rabbi Aaron Feldman and Rabbi Shmuel Kamenetsky support this idea.

Please bring it up with  the rabbonim in eretz yisrael.

Also, we should have a sanhedrin.

Tefillin and Tzizit Campaign to Counter Motzei Shem Ra on the Israeli Gov't and the IDF.

bs"d

Re: A campaign to promote the Mitzvah of Tefillin and Tzizit for the protection for all the soldiers...

The recent aggressive campaign of various groups against Giyus (draft) of Chareidim has led to much Machlokes and a negative impression of Gedoilim who might be perceived as only caring about Yeshiva Bochorim, Bnei Torah,  sitting and learning  in Yeshiva while not really caring  about the combat soldiers facing our enemies in combat nor about the civilians under attack such as residents in Sderot or victims of terror attacks such as the one today in Adam in northern Jerusalem in Samaria.

fyi about LeHovin a newspaper with an Agenda

EXCLUSIVE REPORT: NEW ENGLISH NEWSPAPER LAUNCHED BY HAPELEG SUPPORTERS

This is a propaganda paper with an agenda. No Giyus (Chareidi draft) for Bnei Torah.

Here is the front page article by Rabbi Yosef Berkowitz  a pseudonym of Rabbi Sruly London from Flatbush.  After reading this  article one will come away thinking that Israel and the IDF has one agenda and that is to ensnare Bnei Torah to leave Yiddishkeit.

Lehovin Issue  8 Parshat Devorim page 1 True Unity as Tisha B'Av Approaches by Rabbi Yosef Berkowitz

Lehovin Issue 8 Parshat Devorim page 4 cont article from page 1

Lehovin Issue 8 Parshat Devorim page 6 News Room, Hundreds of Hamas Rockets hit Southern Israel, Kites still wreaking havoc in Southern Israel...

Pull Quote: "Frum politicians and journalists, after all, don't decide things for themselves; they consult with gedolei Torah and follow their directives"

Do the Rabbonim they reference agree with Lehovin's agenda?

I  doubt the Gedolim mentioned in this article approve of the agenda of this paper which serves only to divide Am Yisroel and Bnei Torah with Machlokes.

This paper fails to provide Hakoras Hatov to the existing entity that addresses the existential threats coming from our enemies to protect the people.  While they acknowledge that the existential threats exist they continuously bad mouth the IDF and the government of Israel who has to deal with these terror threats.

What is blatant is the failure to acknowledge that perhaps the Chayalim in Tzahal are there primarily to defend the security of all the people of Israel rather than to bring about a spiritual demise of G-d fearing Jews.

The accusations and allegations against the IDF and the Israeli Government in the larger scheme of things are false.

Soldiers serving in Hesder units as well as Nachal Chareidi units remain committed to Torah before, during and after their army service.  Their religious needs are being addressed so that they are not compromised.  They are G-d fearing and believe that their purpose in serving in the IDF is fulfilling the Mitzvoth D-Orayta of protecting the people and the Land of Eretz Yisroel from it's enemies. The majority of the secular Mosarati Idf Soldier as well believes that he is sacrificing his time and efforts in order to protect his family, his home and the people of Israel.

Are there elements in the army that are coming from an impure place which indeed might threaten the spiritual level of the soldier. Perhaps,  and it is right to address these concerns. But why throw out the baby with the dirty bathwater?

Ask any Holocaust Survivor if they prefer no Jewish military and no one to protect them and just have Bnei Torah learning as was the case prior to the Holocaust?

How many Yeshivas thrived in Nazi Germany? Can't think of one.

To call the IDF Shmad and a Spiritual Holocaust is to distort reality.

With Tzahal protecting  Israel and Hashem protecting Tzahal, there has been more Torah study in the Land of Israel happening than in the last 2,000 years!

Points to ponder..

Why does the Torah command "Vehaya Machanecha Kadosh", that the military camp be Holy,  if the Torah was against  a military camp? This Pasuk Pshuto KMashmao, its literal meaning, is not referring to being Holy in a separate seating concert!
Why are there so many Mitzvoth DOrayta, Biblical Commandments, pertaining to a military camp? Please consult Rambam Sefer HaMitzvoth or Sefer HaChinuch that has them delineated. Are they not relevant in today's world?
Why is Am Yisroel counted according to Yotzei Tzava, those of age to serve in the army, if the Torah is against a fighting army?
Why did Avraham Avinu, Yakov Avinu,  Moshe Rabbeinu, Yehoshua bin Nun, Dovid Hamelech etc. all engage in military warfare and engage in strategy, with real soldiers with real weapons, swords, spears, chariots, horses, elephants etc.  Is all this to detract from ones religiousity  as this article suggests?
Why did Moshe Rabbeinu rebuke the Tribes of Reuvein  and Gad for not joining with the rest of Am Yisroel to fight and conquer Eretz Yisroel?
Why does the Shulchan Aruch clearly state one is obligated to violate Shabbos and go to war to protect Eretz Yisroel?

Not to have a Jewish army is suicidal!

Alternatively, why can't Torah Leadership insist that the Defense Ministry be led by G-d fearing Jews?

To isolate all the G-d fearing Jews from the IDF will only serve to weaken the army since a G-d fearing army is the secret of its success!

Why not celebrate the recent appointment of promotion of Brigadier General Ofer Winter as Liberman's Military Secretary.

A July 9, 2014 call from an officer, then Givati Brigade commander,  to his soldiers on the eve of entering the Gaza Strip:
"History has chosen us to spearhead the fighting against the terrorist Gazan enemy which abuses, blasphemes and curses the God of Israel's forces," Winter wrote. "We have planned and prepared for this moment and we take the mission upon ourselves out of commitment, complete humility, and because we are prepared to endanger ourselves and lay down our lives in order to protect our families, our people and our homeland."
Winter then recited the Sh'ma Israel prayer, asking "the God of Israel" to "make our path successful as we go and stand to fight for the sake of your people of Israel against a foe who curses your name.
From the words of this article in LeHovin, one comes away with the wrong impression that the IDF is an unholy entity with an unholy agenda.   Probably the majority of the readers living in Flatbush, and hopefully Lakewood aren't impressed with this falsehood, but they might walk away with a lack of respect for all the Rabbonim mentioned in this article who are perceived to take the position of this paper which slanders the IDF and the Draft as being detrimental to serving G-d and keeping Torah and Commandments?

Silence will empower the side of evil.  By remaining silent and the public clueless of the Gedoilims position regarding whether or not there should be an army protecting Israel, and what role the Bachurim, the Bnei Torah should play to help the physical protection of Eretz Yisroel suggests that Bnei Torah should have no active role. The argument being  that to have an active role spells spiritual suicide.

How then will Bnei Torah  be included in the Nation of Israel's Army of Hashem? As it says Elef LeMateh, Elef LeMateh.

translation:
Any citizen who wasn't drafted for combat can participate in a war by prayer. This is how Chazal learned from the verse:
"A thousand to a Tribe, a thousand to a Tribe from all the Tribes of Israel you will send to the army. And they will give from the thousands of Israel 12,000 combat Soldiers".  Our holy Torah testifies that in the war of Midian they were commanded to extricate "a thousand to at Tribe  a thousand to a Tribe." And it is written in the Midrash Rabbah and in Yalkut Shimoni that "they were given", means there were another thousand from each tribe. It means that they paired each soldier with another soldier who would pray for the other. Indeed, in the war of Midian it was said, "And no one was unaccounted for." And certainly the fact that they were all saved was because of the prayer of Klal Yisrael "(Rabbi Simcha Hacohen Kook, the Admor of Boston).

We learn that the Torah does promote Chayalim that are engaged in active combat and promotes other Chayalin engaged in Tefilla....    The safety and security of the Chayalim actively engaged in combat is directly connected to the entire Nation's worthiness.

Being disengaged from the mainstream while disparaging our brothers who are actively engaged in combat, those who are carrying the burden disporportionately, is unfair and serves only to weaken the army engaged in combat.

Noone is exempt from this battle.

Let us therefore suggest the following!

Tefillin and Tzizit is the best Shemira for the Chayalim. This campaign can unite all of Am Yisroel.  Every Jew, practicing or not, should be encouraged to put on Tefillin and Tzizit for the protection of the soldiers!  Are the Roshei Yeshivot and Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah actively encouraging each and every Bachur, and every frum Yid  to have extra Kavana when putting on Tefillin and wearing Tzizit.  When davening and learning Torah,  they should remember to always have in mind the protection of the combat soldiers on the front and the protection of civilian populations  such as those targeted by Hamas Rockets. Chayalim and civilians under attack are depending on Bnei Torah to have this in their uppermost consciousness.

The reality of the threat is driven home best when one is under attack. Ask the children living in Sderot with sirens going off. Surely sitting in Yeshiva protected, far away from battle, makes it difficult to have the same Kavana as the G-d fearing soldier on the battlefield facing the enemy.

We can all agree, it is not Kochi veOtzem Yadi, our might and strength, that will ultimately protect us.

This point was recently brought home when a bullet pierced through the ceramic bullet proof vest of the IDF Soldier Aviv Levy hy"d.

Excerpts from this front Page Lehovin article....

"Dozens of leading Sefardi roshei yeshiva and rabbonim led a throng of thousands in tefilla at the kevorim of past great leaders of Sefardic Jewry. They cried out to Hashem over a decree that in just the last five years have brought, in the words of the Sefardi gadol Rav Yehuda Ades, a "spiritual holocaust for the Torah world in general and especially for the Sefardi Torah World".

A group of America's most revered talmidei chachamim met to discuss the situation in Eretz Yisroel.  The meeting, which brought together an unusually wide spectrum of manhigim, including Chacham Yosef Harari Raful, Rav Dovid Feinstein, Rav Aharon Feldman, Rav Osher Kalmanowitz, Rav Malkiel Kotler, Rav Dovid Harris, Rav Yaakov Horowitz, Rav Aharon Schechter and Rav Elya Ber Wachtfogel, was convened amidst deep concern at the reports of what is happening to bnei Torah there."

And in Eretz Yisroel itself, of course, gedolei Torah from every segment of Torah world have been crying out in pain over this crisis of immense proportions for the future of Torah and Yahadus in Artzeinu HaKedosha.  There are the gedolim whose profound distress at what is taking place is publicly known, like Rav Dovid Soloveitchik, Rav Azriel Auerbach, Rav Shmuel Deutsch, Rav Tzvi Friedman, RaYisroel Yaakov Kalmanovitch, Rav Tzvi Rotberg and Rav Moshe Shterbuch.

But there are many, many others, some of whom have kept a lower profile. On Shiva Assar B'Tamuz for example, the  renowned mashpia Rav Tzvi Meir Zilberberg led a yom tefillah in Meron at the tziyun of Reb Shimon bar Yochai, where Tehillim was said for almost four hours, with Rav Tzvi Meir leading the tefillos with bechiyos nora'os. ..."

What was missing from this article was the Gedoilim crying out in pain over the suffering of those in the south who have been targeted with Hamas Rockets that hit southern Israel and the kites still wreaking havoc in southern Israel that they reported in the News Section of the paper.

Readers might put 2 and 2 together and conclude that these aren't burning issues for the Gedoilim and if only there would be no Chareidi draft, then Hamas would stop sending in rockets and kites into Israel and ISIS would never threaten Israel.  It's like if we would only allow a Palestinian State in Judea and Samaria then there would be peace and security in the low lying population centers like Tel Aviv and Bnei Brak.

But obviously this is highly unrealistic.  Because a more logical conclusion is that we need a practical way to stop Hamas from attacking Israel and that a G-d fearing IDF is probably the best answer.

Another worrisome article in Lehovin:

Nationality Bill Loom Disastrous

MK Menachem Eliezer Mozes (United Torah Judaism) admitted that the Haredi parties were closely collaborating with the Arab-Israeli Joint List party.

First hints of the unlikely alliance appeared last week after the Shas and UTJ factions opposed the Muezzin Law, which seeks to limit the use of loudspeakers in mosques at times of the day in which they could disturb residents.

On Sunday, Mozes admitted that the Haredi factions, both members of the coalition government, were collaborating with the Joint List in order to advance bills that were important to the Haredi community.

"We're doing 'business' with the Arabs in order to support laws that are important to the Haredi public," Mozes told Radio Kol Hai, adding that the Haredi factions had scuttled the Muezzin Law in order to keep the alliance alive, despite supporting an earlier version of the bill in 2016.

"UTJ's earlier support of the Muezzin Bill was a mistake," contended Mozes, who hinted that the Haredi parties had torpedoed the bill in order to earn the Joint List's support for the Draft Law granting Haredi yeshiva students draft deferments.

The above is a quote from a news item today (Israel National News).

Did it make you blink twice and rub your eyes to make sure they were not playing tricks on you?

Let us try to understand this. The Haredim, (known generally as the non-Zionistic "ultra-Orthodox" community in Israel) are making deals with the anti-Zionist Arab parties in the Knesset and proudly announce that an alliance has been struck.

You help make sure that our sons do not have to defend the country, and we will help you do what is dearest to you (weaken Israel as a Jewish country).

What can one say? I must choose my words carefully.

I usually save my harshest words for the Arab enemy who want us dead and the Leftists who support them. It is the  Jewish country that the Leftists I believe truly hate, as they do themselves for being Jewish.

It is not difficult for me to paint the above with a rather wide and clear brush.

The Arabs hate us because we are Jews and the Left hate themselves and us because we are Jews. They suffer from a generationally recurring warped jean that stems from a continuing disconnect from Judaism.

I get it.

The Haredim are not Arabs, so they do not hate Jews.

They are firmly planted in the Jewish tradition, dress, liturgy,  strict Shabbat and holiday observance etc..,  so they are definitely not Leftists in the classic sense.

Then don't talk like them or walk like them, but the Arabs are ready to embrace them just as they have the Leftists.

The difference is this:  The Leftists are driven by an ideology that calls for abetting our enemies.

The Haredim on the other hand, don't love the Arabs, nor do they adapt their national narrative.

It's purely business. Nothing personal.Nothing ideological

That explains why they (Shas) voted for Oslo and they (UTJ) voted for the expulsion from Gush Katif and Shomron.

It's the ultimate art of the deal.

As far as the Haredim are concerned they could be wheeling and dealing with any political players in Brooklyn, NY or Manchester, England or in Lublin, Poland before those deals ended a few decades ago.

Non-Zionist, means, I live in my corner of this country (it can be any country or community, anywhere) and I do what is best for my corner. Period

Two thousand years of Jewish dispersion, humiliation and weakness are OK. There was a corner

Just give me my corner. I don't need a Jewish country with its unfamiliar myriad types of Jews from every corner of the earth. I don't want an army and all the other nuisances that a real people must face.

We never had to deal with this stuff in the ghetto. Just give me a Goy with whom I can make deals and stay out of my corner.

Many of the Jewish slaves who left Egypt quickly preferred to return to Egypt and not enter the promised land to deal with the responsibilities of a  free responsible nation.

They were the prototype.

I will continue to be woken up at 4:30 am by the blaring mosque loudspeakers, but I won't curse the Arabs any longer.

Police Arrest Arabs Who Attacked Haredim on Shabbat, Forced Them to Convert to Islam | The Jewish Press - JewishPress.com | 15 Tevet 5778 – January 2, 2018 |

Bsd

I hope the Neturei Karta and their followers take note. Don't be deceived.

They, the Neturei Karta have an impressive on line presence. I would investigate their funding. Probably coming from Amalek, Iran. They have extensive misleading documentation of the anti Chareidi draft as if all Chareidi Jews  believe as Neturei Karta and want to partner with Iran against the State of Israel. For shame for convincing Jews that a weak Israel who can not defend itself properly is in Am Yisroel best interest.

They forgot how Jews were humiliated in the Holocaust and throughout the ages when we did not have a State of our own and no means to defend ourselves.

Yet these  Chareidim in this post who were attacked and humiliated were Chasdei Hashem not murdered and lived to tell their fellow Jews via Honenu exactly what transpired. Their conversion and empty words of support of Hamas are meaningless obviously as they were coerced and in fear of their lives. Their statements are clearly One Big Lie as the Arabs do all the time under Taqiyya. We can act similarly.

If Hamas feels empowered by forcing religious Jews to "convert" to Islam and believe it is a sign of their strength, the opposite is true. The world understands that they are bullies who treat their own with tyranny and such acts only expose their own weakness and modus operandi.

Military strategy vs. the Rabbis - Israel National News. Rabbanim should demand adherence to Torah first.

Bsd

The secularization of the Israeli army by Secular Jews is a real dilemma for a Torah believer who wants to serve in Tzahal.

In the same vein, the anti chareidi draft campaign is not the solution! This solution reflects a weakness among Torah observers not to lead and gives power to the secular minority to lead in a way that goes against Torah!

The secular Israeli Supreme Court is another example of a Supreme Court System in Israel which disregards Torah in defiance of popular will and Chareidi lack of protest and turning a blind eye is keeping the status quo of a  secular corrupt and anti Torah Court.

Have Chareidim come out to protest immoral laws like the expulsion of Jews from their homes in Amona and Ofra?

Joining the Israeli army because of a desire to be part of Milchemet Mitzva only to be subject to compromising Torah is demoralizing to those soldiers who want to live according to Torah. Serving in combat with women as well, forces the religious soldiers in a position that he is tempted to violate the Torah.

The Chareidim by discouraging their men to serve and thereby not having to deal with the secular elite leadership in the army are making it much harder for religious soldiers to keep Torah. Their stand empowers the secular leadership and makes it harder for those who observe the Mitzvoth Dorayta of Milchemet Mitzvah.

We are all Areivim, guarantors. Even when Chareidim do not serve in the military, the fact that they are leaving the task of defending Am Yisroel to their brothers can be compared to the scenario for which Moshe Rabbeine severely rebuked the Tribes of Reuvein and Gad.

Elef leMateh Elef leMateh.  Chareidim are accountable no different than any other segment of Am Yisroel. They will be Chayav in a Beit Din Shel Maala.

Rather than fighting against Chareidi draft they must fight for a Machaneh Kadosh, the army camp, (not a separate seating concert), to be Kadosh! Vehaya Mavhanecha Kadosh applies to them and to Israel's military whether or not they serve.

To escape their obligation is a terrible sin as they put the task on the shoulders of their brothers many of whom have not had the zchus of a  G-d fearing education. This weakens the entire army both in the spiritual and physical realm. To deny this Emes is to deny the Torah Kula, the entire Torah, while taking a stand for an army camp that is also H-ly and adheres to Torah, is to be metaken, is to rectify,  the Chait HaMiraglim, the Sin of the Spies!

Yasher Koach,  on this excellent article!

Military strategy vs. the rabbis
The IDF military strategy in this article is not about defeating the enemy in battle, it is about defeating yourself before the battle is fought.

Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch and Naftalli Bennett. End Machlokes! LeToeles

bs"d

Rechilus?  If Rabbi Sternbuch wasn't a Gadol HaDor who said these harsh words against Naftali Bennett which in turn generated much Lashon Hara,  than one can argue that perpetuating this Machlokes is Rechilus and I should not be posting about it..

In addition,  based on the tone of these harsh words, one does not get the impression that they were given with Ahava,  love in order to be Metaken, correct an alleged wrongdoing of this small Kipa bearing MK. .

Can one give Mussar, rebuke a Gadol Hador, a well known and respected Rabbinic Leader?  If the Gadol Hador himself preaches to his followers to end Machlokes, controversy, and to have Ichpatiyut concern for a fellow Jew how is it possible that he himself doesn't seem to practice what he preaches? http://shemittahrediscovered.blogspot.com/2016/01/israel-police-state-please-contact.html

What triggered this outburst against a Dati Leumi, Religious Zionist MK?

On a simple level, probably, Naftali Bennett's efforts to assimilate the Chareidi, religious ultra orthodox community into the Israeli workforce is threatening.  Perhaps the underlying fear is that Chareidim integrated into Israeli society will feel indebted to the source of their newly acquired sustenance and this naturally will weaken and threaten the influence of the Chareidi Leadership over their chassidim, followers.   In addition, being exposed to alien ideas of the Chareidi society, such as a positive take on the IDF, the Israeli Defense Force will somehow penetrate the mindset of the Chosid  alienating them from their Chareidi mindset. In addition,  the internet and the evils of secular society will also be more accessible.  Rather than showing Chareidim how to embrace  modern day technology which empowers negative and positive energies for both good and evil and instruct and teach them how to channel it for the good, Chareidim have been advised and educated to avoid the temptations altogether and rather to isolate themselves and be removed from any medium which can generate negative influence.

Unfortunately, this also removes them from the powerful tools that are needed in today's society to counter the powerful forces of evil. Chareidim pride themselves in succeeding in overcoming the test of our Internet generation by not succumbing to it's tentacles that has entrapped so many people to do bad stuff. .

This is not completely accurate on various levels.  Firstly, we are One Nation.  So if the majority of the people have been infected with the evils of the internet, then Am Yisroel as a Nation is infected.  We never truly escape but rather by osmosis absorb it.  Of course, the damage is not as severe as one who is badly infected.

Perhaps more troublesome is that we can not dismember an entire community because they are part of us and we are part of them. This goes for Chareidim as well as Dati Leumi. One can not dismember a part of his/her body because we need each part of our body and by doing so we only hurt ourselves.

The Chareidim need the Dati Leumi community and visa versa.  In fact we need each and every Jew, secular or religious.

Secondly, the evil is not uprooted simply because someone succeeded in hiding it under the rug temporarily. Out of sight, out of mind is not a permanent solution.  If evil is empowered with technology we need to be able to use technology to empower good even more so.

And by minimizing our exposure to fellow Jews exposed to outside influences we also limit and minimize our positive influence of an elevated consciousness of sanctity upon our fellow Jew by not interacting with them.

There needs to be a healthy balance rather than total abstention and separation.

We don't abstain from wine but rather we elevate it and thus sanctify the mundane with holiness.

This having been said, allow me to perhaps suggest another deeper explanation for Rabbi Sternbuch's character assassination of Naftali Bennett.

From an outsider perspective, and I am not G-d to understand His ways, there does seem to be some poetic justice in the powerful character assassination attack on Naftali Bennett. It was somewhat deserved though not for the reasons Rabbi Sternbuch mentioned.

Yesh Din veYesh Dayan.

Naftali Bennett himself engaged in character assassination of the hilltop youth having an extremely horrible article portraying the hilltop youth as "Jewish Terrorist" published in the New York Times an antisemitic paper In August 2015. http://shemittahrediscovered.blogspot.com/2016/01/duma-blood-libel-calling-hilltop-youth.html. This article was the life blood of a blood libel that originally happened in Duma.

Naftali Bennett, Prosecutor and Judge on Israel's Jewish Terrorists By NAFTALI BENNETT AUG. 7, 2015 They killed the baby and his parents....
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/08/opinion/naftali-bennett-on-israels-jewish-terrorists.html?_r=0

...The terrorists who killed Shira and Ali do not represent Israel or its people. They are a fringe group, made up of radical extremists who do not only seek to kill. Their ultimate goal is the destruction of the State of Israel. They act against and threaten the very premise of what the Zionist movement envisioned when returning to the Land of Israel after 2,000 years in exile — a Jewish and democratic state committed to equality and freedom for all its citizens. They are anarchists, a fifth column within Israel and like Hamas and Hezbollah, they must face the full force of Israel's justice system and its defense establishment.
But they are also a tiny group. They do not represent the 400,000 residents of Jewish communities throughout the West Bank, the overwhelming majority of whom are law-abiding citizens and have condemned these acts of violence.

So now Bennett himself has first hand knowledge of what it feels like to be libeled.

Here he was, trying his very hardest to help the Chareidi community with jobs and with economic relief and in return he got slammed and slandered being called lots of nasty names.

But this doesn't seem to excuse Rabbi Sternbuch from his own Character Assassination of the Dati Leumi MK.

Rabbi Sternbuch has been outspoken against protesting the Iran Deal, against a Chareidi Draft, against ascending Har HaBayit lest it enrages the Goyim and has not spoken out in defense of Meir Ettinger nor the hilltop youth under Adminsitrative Detention  in spite of  their desire to have a Torah government.

HaRav Sternbuch outwardly preaches unity yet his words have the opposite affect. One has a hard time feeling his love for his fellow Jew when he lashes out at the Dati Leumi community. One can not help question what HaRav Sternbuch had in mind when he blasted the small Kippa MK. His very harsh words seem like they are a direct contradiction to the teachings of Shemirat of Halashon of the Chofetz Chaim.  The entire Jewish religious community, the entire religious educational network,  Chareidi, Chassidish, Litvish, Modern Orthodox have been taught that Shemirat Halashon, guarding one's tongue from evil talk and ending Machloket, controversy,  and loving a fellow Jew is the key to bringing the redemption. Please read about the work of the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chofetz_Chaim_Heritage_Foundation

What comes to mind is Lipa Shmelzers son Yid Yid Vi's dayn Bort.

Where is your Beard - by Lipa Schmeltzer - Lip Sync

Here is the background story  of this song from a Satmar blogger:

The story is about R' Elimelech Tress... quoting from a web site: "The Satmar Rebbe, Reb Yoel Tietelbaum, treated Mike Tress with a great deal of Kovod (respect). One of his chassidim was surprised at this and asked the Rebbe how he could do this? Mike was just a clean shaven guy! The rebbe replied in Yiddish (but I will write his reply in English). "In the World to Come when Mike Tress gets there they will ask him, "Yid, Yid where is your beard? When you get there, they will ask beard, beard, where is your Yid!""

Arutz7  and Yeshiva world reported on Rabbi Sternbuch's harsh words to Naftali Bennett.

Haredi leader attacks Bennett: You're a swine, ditch the kippah. In vicious attack, Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch compares Bennett to a pig, calls on him to throw away his kippa. 'It would be a great mitzva'.  http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/210137#.Vv29bfkrJdg
