I have something important to share with you.
It's a matter that gives me no rest.
A terrible and terrible injustice breaks my heart.
Whole nights without sleep, endless sadness, anger and rage fill my soul.
It might seem at first glance that this a political matter... but it is not.
I am convinced that had I discovered such an injustice on the other side of the map it would have hurt to the same extent.
Amiram Ben Uliel was tortured and forced to confess in 2015 to a crime he did not commit. He confessed to an arson in an Arab village called Duma that killed 3 people, an Arab couple, whose last name is Dawabsheh, and their baby.
This is how it is reported on Wikipedia:
Jewish Settlers were condemned within 24 hours based on the say so of Shabak with no investigation to speak of.
Three months later Amiram Ben Uliel and a Minor were the Jewish religious Settler scapegoats interrogated, placed under isolation and tortured to confess to this Duma arson.
Please note that there has been Arab infighting among Arab family clans in the village of Duma before and after so there have been several arsons in the village besides this particular arson.
Were Arabs investigated for this arson?
Highly unlikely. They don't fit the profile of the perpetrators the political orchestrators required. After all, Hebrew Graffiti was found. If Hebrew Graffiti is found on the scene, that doesn't match anyone's handwriting, with nuances that are off, isn't that enough to convict Jews?
Within 24 hours of the arson, with no investigation to speak of, Jewish right wing extremists were condemned and many religious Jewish Settler youth were placed under administrative detention, interrogated, denied basic civil and human rights and rights for minors, rights to an attorney etc.
Finally, after 3 months following political pressure to actually find the supposed Jewish perpetrators, they succeeded in bringing charges against 2 scapegoats, Amiram Ben Uliel and minor A.
After years of incarceration and isolation before an actual trial and conviction, Amiram was finally convicted of 3 life sentences based on his tortured confession alone with no real supporting evidence.
The story of Amiram Ben Uliel is a modern day Dreyfus story...
no less than that.
I know Amiram's story, I read the legal material. I saw the testimonies of the Arab's neighbors. There is not a single testimony that does not contradict Amiram's testimony... Even Amiram's own testimony contradicts itself.
Please, friends, a plea...even if you are on the other side politically or religiously. Such an injustice is simply not allowed to happen in this common ground of ours called the State of Israel, a refuge for the Jewish people...
Such a terrible injustice.
