Time is of the essence! The Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (the Corker-Menendez bill) is about to come to a vote .
The passage of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (the Corker-Menendez bill) is critical to the survival of Israel, the security of the U.S., and the stability of the Middle East and the entire world. This legislation will ensure that Congress has time to review any agreement with Iran and will prevent the president from waiving any economic sanctions against Iran for 60 days as the agreement is reviewed. After the review, Congress could vote to approve or disapprove of the lifting of the sanctions Congress imposed in 2010.
IT IS URGENT THAT CONGRESS ENSURES THAT THE DEAL REACHED WITH IRAN WILL NOT ENDANGER THE ENTIRE WORLD!
The terms of the potentially catastrophic current "framework" agreement:
- accept Iran's refusal to allow IAEA inspection of its secret underground facilities and its military installations;
- allow Iran to continue to refuse IAEA inspection of 11 out of the 12 technologies related to nuclear weapons;
- allow Iran to maintain its intercontinental ballistic missile batteries and warheads capable of carrying nuclear weapons;
- implicitly accept Iran's open campaign of conquest on Israel's borders with Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza and in Yemen, and Iraq;
- implicitly accept Iran's state-sponsored terrorism around the world via its proxies Hezbollah, Hamas, the Shi'ite Houthi rebels, and Shi'ite militias in Iraq, and its own troops working directly with Hezbollah in Syria;
- and implicitly accept the declaration of Iran's Brigadier General Naqdi that "wiping Israel off the map is not up for negotiation."
The terms of the current "framework" are so alarming that the top political and intellectual leaders of the Israeli LEFT are speaking out against Obama's capitulation to Iran.
Israel's Labor Party opposition issued an official press release against the deal.
The head of Labor's delegation to the Knesset, Eitan Cabel, said, "I refuse to join those applauding the agreement with Iran, because the truth is it keeps me awake at night....When a crazy religious regime with a proven track record of terrorism and cheating receives permission to get that close to a nuclear bomb, I am very worried. In the face of a nuclear Iran, there is no opposition--we are all Israelis."
Israeli author, Ari Shavit, called Obama's deal "a terrible historic mistake." He wrote, "If Iran is nuclearized, everyone's values and way of life will be endangered."
YOUR LETTERS, E-MAILS, AND PHONE CALLS ARE HAVING AN EFFECT! WE CAN'T STOP NOW!!!
Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) became the 66th Senator to commit to overriding Pres. Obama's anticipated veto of the Corker-Menendez Bill (Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015)! Only one more Senator needs to make this commitment in order to have the 67 votes needed for an override.
The Senators who support the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 are "closing in on a veto-proof majority" (NYT, 4/13/15).
Senator Schumer is responding because of YOUR e-mails, phone calls, and letters, pressure from the Jewish Voice and other Jewish media, and the knowledge that a press conference was going to occur outside his office. On the day before the 3/27 press conference in front of his office, he declared his co-sponsorhip of the Corker-Menendez bill. On April 2nd, the Thursday just before Passover, Senator Schumer sent us this new statement:
"We must do everything to prevent a nuclear Iran and so any potential agreement must prevent Iran's ability to develop a nuclear weapon. Congress played a lead role in crafting the tough-and-effective sanctions regime that brought Iran to the table, and Congress should have a role on how those sanctions are altered in any final agreement with Iran. That's why I strongly support this legislation, which will give Congress the ability to weigh in on any potential Iran deal. This issue is far too important – for the United States, for Israel, for the entire Middle East – for Congress not to have any ability to review a nuclear deal with Iran."
Schumer, in his new leadership position, is under enormous pressure from the Obama Administration to accept a watered-down version of the bill or to make sure that there are not enough votes for the override.
It is conceivable, because of Obama's pressure, that SCHUMER COULD VOTE FOR THE OVERRIDE TO SATISFY HIS CONSTITUENTS AND WORK BEHIND THE SCENES TO DISCOURAGE OTHER DEMOCRATS FROM VOTING FOR OVERRIDE.
THE OVERRIDE IS IN SCHUMER'S HANDS!!!! WE HAVE TO PUSH HIM TO DO THE RIGHT THING!
WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW:
1) Please call and write a postcard to Senator Schumer. His number is 202-224-6542. His address is 322 Hart Senate Office Building. Washington, D.C. 20510 (Postcards will not necessitate lengthy security measures.) You can say or write:
"Senator Schumer, you issued a statement that said, unequivocally, that EVERYTHING must be done to prevent a nuclear Iran and so any potential agreement must PREVENT Iran's ability to develop a nuclear weapon. Your statement of April 1st made clear that the issue of a nuclear Iran is "far too important for the United States, for Israel, and for the entire Middle East for Congress not to have the ability to review a nuclear deal with Iran.
WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU TO ENSURE THE PASSAGE OF THE IRAN NUCLEAR AGREEMENT REVIEW ACT NO MATTER WHAT OBSTACLES ARISE.
WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU, AS THE LEADER OF THE DEMOCRATS IN THE SENATE, TO GARNER THE REMAINING VOTES NEEDED TO OVERRIDE PRESIDENT OBAMA'S VETO.
Let Senator Schumer know that nothing is more important than this issue to his constituents! He has been treading with caution in terms of his public statements, but we need to let him know that we are counting on him to ensure the passage of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act. And that means, if necessary, overriding the President's veto.
2) Every constituent of our silent senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, should know that her office issued this statement: "
"She has not decided as yet if she will co-sponsor the bill." Her phone number is 202-224-4451. You can say or write:
"There is only one chance to be "on the right side of history" at this juncture. There is no legislation before Congress that is more urgent. The vast majority of Americans consider Iran to be the greatest threat to the security of the United States. THAT ALONE is reason for every senator to vote for the override."
3) Those in New Jersey should call and write postcards to Senator Cory Booker. His number is 202-224-3224. Senator Booker's address is 141 Hart Senate Office Building Washington, D.C. 20510.
4) Please call the Democratic Minority Whip Steny Hoyer. His number is 202-225-4131. When the legislation comes up for a vote in the House, he will be instrumental in garnering the necessary Democratic votes to override an anticipated presidential veto when the legislation is presented in the House.
Alarming new developments:
1) The Wall Street Journal (4/13/15) reported that Russia retracted its hold on the transfer of S-300 missiles to Iran. With this transfer from Russia, Iran will have one of the most advanced anti-aircraft systems in the world. Iran will be able to fire a single battery at multiple targets flying up to almost 90,000 feet. Israel's ability to protect itself from a regime that has sworn to "wipe Israel off the map" will be put in great jeopardy.
2) It was reported that Iran may be establishing elements of their nuclear program in Syria (Algemeiner, 3/30/15).
3) Iran's Fars News Agency reported that in 2014, General Naqdi said Iran was "stepping up efforts to arm West Bank Palestinians for battle against Israel, adding the move would lead to Israel's annihilation. Arming the West Bank has started and weapons will be supplied to the people of this region." This is confirmed in the very terrifying article below:
4) The same Brigadier General Mohammed Reza Naqdi who said, as the nuclear talks were reaching a conclusion, that "wiping Israel off the map is not up for negotiation" boasted publicly that Iran supplied much of Hamas's arsenal, training, and technical expertise that was exercised during the most recent war with Israel.
With the approach of Yom Hashoah on Wednesday night, we should let all those with whom we have contact understand that NOW is the time to put into action the words "NEVER AGAIN." Much of American Jewry in the 1930s and early 1940s did not know what was happening in Europe. We have information! We are informed! We have no excuse for not acting! In the face of the enormity of the danger of a nuclear Iran, we have the obligation to do something!
WE CANNOT STOP OUR VIGILANCE! As Benjamin Netanyahu said on April 1, "the greatest threat to our security and to our future was and remains Iran's effort to arm itself with nuclear weapons." Please send this to everyone who can make a phone call, write a postcard, or write an e-mail.
PLEASE DON'T DELAY....CALL SENATOR SCHUMER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
