Let's talk straight about what the Torah says about a fighting army to conquer and defend the Land of Israel Part 1:

bs"d

Thank you Mishpacha Magazine for their initiative bringing an eye opening discussion re: the Chareidi Community  entitled "One Family One Burden Let's Talk Straight"  into public awareness in their special expanded edition, issue 463  with follow up live panel discussions in the Diaspora in the Five Towns, Brooklyn and  other communities.  I attended the one in Brooklyn featuring Eli Paley, Publisher and CEO, Mishpacha, Yonosan Rosenblum a regular columnist and Eytan Kobre, Editor US desk of Mishpacha.

In a private discussion with Publisher and CEO Paley, following the panel discussion, it was clear to me that he has unbelievable love for both the Chareidi (ultra Orthodox) and Dati Leumi (National Camp) communities.

So let's talk straight w/o Politics. Just Torah Pshuto KeMashmaoh. Let's talk of the simple (pshat) explanation of the verses in the Torah.  Let's for a moment forget the leaders and parties who are running the govt and those who decide how the Israeli army is run and what their intentions are regarding the Chareidi soldiers in the Israeli army for good or for bad..

Let's focus on what the Torah has to say.

The Torah is the common denominator of all Jews be it Chareidi or secular.  It is also the moral compass of the world and the Nations of the world look up to the Jewish People for moral direction because we are the People of the Book!!!

---------------

It is clear that the Torah advocates for a strong Jewish Army of Soldiers who fight. for the conquest and protection of the Land of Israel

  • The borders of the Land of Israel is clearly delineated in Parshath Masei the Torah reading of this Shabbath.
  • It is a Mitzvah from the Torah  to fight and conquer Eretz Yisroel. It is a Milchemet Mitzvah when our enemies wish our destruction.
  • The army camp must be Holy.
  • Idol worship needs to be removed from the Holy Land
  • Idol worshippers of foreign nations (e.g. Canaanites) of the Land must be driven out of the Land
  • Only the Nation of Israel is obligated in observing the 613 commandments and whose fulfillment of commandments are actualized to the fullest by fulfilling the  commandments in the Land of Israel.
  • The Temple Mount is the focal point and the Place where G-d's Shechina, presence always resides.
  • Many commandments can only be actualized by coming to Jerusalem and  to the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and performing the commandments there
  • Many commandments are dependant on settling the Land. This brings holiness to the Land and to the entire world.  This also is the secret of a peaceful existence in the Land of Israel.
  • All tribes of Bnei Yisroel are expected to be represented and fight and be part of the army.

Let's for now focus on the requirement to have an army and bring proof from Pesukim (verses) in the Torah..

Some Proofs from the Chumash:

  • "Vehaya Machanecha Kadosh". This refers to a military camp and not a separate seating concert.
  • Jews were counted as per those eligible to be in the army (men 20-60) and not men learning in Yeshiva
  • The Chait of the Miraglim (Sin of the Spies) was that they preferred the spiritual life in the desert and their closeness to Hashem and they discouraged the Israelites from conquering the Land of Israel. For this they were severely punished and all the people that accepted their words were punished with 40 years of wandering in the desert and every year, we cry on Tisha Baav for the tears that should not have been shed in the desert after hearing and accepting the report of the Miraglim.
  • Moshe rebuked the Tribes of Reeuvein Gad and 1/2 Shevet Menashe in case they were thinking of shirking their duty as members of Am Yisroel from being part of a fighting army to conquer the Land of Israel from her enemies.
  • Moshe prayed with Aharon and Chur supporting him in the war against Amalek in the desert but all the rest of the fighting men were with Yehoshua actually fighting. True, they would never have won w/o Prayer but Prayer alone was not what G-d wanted from Am Yisroel.
  • The Israelites in the Desert also fought the Midianites who caused them to sin with an army of fighting soldiers who excelled in personal holiness and had not sinned, from representatives of all the Tribes of Israel. They killed all males from Midan and then under Moshe's instructions all females who the Urim Veturim determined were to be killed.
  • The Tefilin also called phylacteries (/fɪˈlæktərz/ from Ancient Greek phylacterion, form of phylássein, φυλάσσειν meaning "to guard, protect") are a set of small black leather boxes containing scrolls of parchment inscribed with verses from the Torah brings fear in the heart of the enemy when they are worn by G-d fearing Jews. Therefore, it makes sense that the army enlist G-d fearing men rather than soldiers who have difficulty in guarding their personal holiness. Soldiers who wear their Tefilin with pride will best defeat the enemy with the minimum of casualties.
  • In Shirat Devorah (Song of Devorah a prophetess), the prophetess rebukes the tribes who shirked their responsibilities from fighting.

Conclusion:
If the Chareidim would unite with Dati Leumi and Traditional Masorati Jews, the majority of the Israeli population who have fought in many wars and have always been willing to sacrifice to protect this great Land, to set the ground rules of a Holy
Army, then surely our enemies would dissipate like chaff in the wind.
Amen, Ken Yehi Ratzon,   Sincerely, Robin Ticker

PARSHAT MASEI
(by Yehuda HaKohen)

"You shall possess the land and you shall dwell in it, for to you have I given the land to possess it." (BAMIDBAR 33:53)

The Ramban, Rabbi Moshe Ben Nahman, offers a lengthy explanation of this verse, asserting that the mitzvah for the Jewish people to conquer and reside within the Land of Israel is a positive commandment of great consequence to the overall Hebrew mission.

"In my opinion this is a positive commandment, in which He (HaShem) is commanding them (Israel) to dwell in the land and inherit it, because He has given it to them and they should not reject the inheritance of HaShem. Thus if the thought occurs to them to go and conquer the land of Shinar or the land of Assyria or any other country to dwell therein, they would be transgressing the command of G-D. And that which our rabbis have emphasized (Ketubot 110b), the significance of the commandment of dwelling in the Land of Israel and the prohibition against leaving it, and that they even considered a woman who does not want to ascend with her husband to live in the Land of Israel [as a `rebellious wife'] and likewise the man – the source of all these statements here (in this verse) where we have been given this commandment, for this verse constitutes a positive commandment. And this commandment is repeated in many places, such as `Come and possess the land' (DEVARIM 1:8)."

The Ramban demonstrates that the main idea being taught by this verse is the eternal mitzvah for the Jewish people to assert political sovereignty over the Land of Israel and to reside within its borders.

In his supplement to the Rambam's Sefer HaMitzvot, the Ramban teaches that it is a Torah commandment in every generation that the Nation of Israel take control of and inhabit the entire Land of Israel.

"This (a war to liberate Eretz Yisrael) is what our Sages call milchemet mitzvah (obligatory war). In the Talmud (Sotah 44b) Rava said, `Yehoshua's war of liberation was an obligatory duty according to all opinions.' And do not err and say that this precept is the commandment to vanquish the seven nations… this is not so. We were commanded to destroy those nations when they fought against us and had they wished to make peace we could have done so under specific conditions. Yet we cannot leave the land in their control or in the control of any other nation in any generation… Behold, we are commanded with conquest in every generation… this is a positive commandment which applies for all time… And the proof that this is a commandment is this: `They were told to go up in the matter of the Spies: `Go up and conquer as HaShem, G-D of your fathers, has spoken to you. Do not fear and do not be discouraged.' And it further says: `And when HaShem sent you from Kadesh Barnea saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you.' And when they did not go up, the Torah says: `And you rebelled against the Word of G-D, and you did not listen to this command.'" (Positive Commandment 4 of the Ramban's supplement to the Rambam's Sefer HaMitzvot)

The Ramban asserts that the conquest of Eretz Yisrael is a mitzvah for Israel in every generation and that we are forbidden from allowing any part of our country to fall into – or remain under – gentile control. It is found in the Shulchan Aruch that all of the arbitrators of Torah Law (Rishonim and Achronim) agree with the Ramban concerning this issue.

"All of the Poskim, both Rishonim and Achronim, decide the Law in this fashion on the basis of the Ramban." (Shulchan Aruch, Even HaEzer section 75, Pitchei Tshuva 6)

Although the Ramban (in his commentary to BAMIDBAR 33:53) acknowledges Rashi's warning that Israel's ability to survive and prosper in our homeland depends on the nation's willingness to disinherit the foreign peoples who possess the country prior to our return, he offers a more lenient approach regarding the actions Israel must take against gentile nations inhabiting our country.

While Rashi and others assert that upon our return home from exile, Israel must drive out the gentiles in possession of our country, the Ramban insists that peace could be achieved between Israel and these nations under certain conditions so long as the Jewish Nation possesses exclusive and undisputed sovereignty over the country. Rashi disputes this position, noting the following verse:

"But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land before you, those of them whom you leave shall be pins in your eyes and a surrounding barrier of thorns in your sides, and they will harass you upon the land in which you dwell." (BAMIDBAR 33:55)

On this verse, Rashi explains that "pins in your eyes" means "liteidot ham'nakrot eineichem" – that sticks will be driven into your eyes, meaning that the wisdom of Israel's leadership will be neutralized, such that they will be unable to see or understand what a child can clearly see and understand. There will be a situation in which Jews protect themselves behind fences and walls, which "enclose and imprison them such that none can come in or leave."

The holy Ohr HaChaim supports Rashi's explanation of this verse, commenting that: "Not only will they hold on to the part of the land that you have not taken, but the part which you have taken and settled as well. They shall cause you trouble regarding the part that you live in, saying `Get up and leave it.'"

A reconciliation of these positions with that of the Ramban could be achieved through distinguishing between gentile nations wielding dominion over the Jewish homeland from those who merely dwell peacefully in the country under Hebrew sovereignty. This distinction would account for the presence of Israel's Kenite allies in Eretz Yisrael throughout the period of the Judges and would also explain the Torah's multiple references to the compassion we must display towards the Ger toshav (resident alien). By attempting to steal portions of the Land of Israel, however, a gentile can easily move himself from one category to the other.

This debate raises the obvious contentious question of how to relate to the "Palestinian National Movement," which claims to speak on behalf of all Arabs in our country while seeking to appropriate the Land of Israel from the Jewish people.

The Gaon of Vilna sheds light on this question in his commentary to HABAKUK. Here he illuminates the concept of Peleshet and the uniqueness of its historic national role. The Gaon points out that the verse in BEREISHIT 10:14, which introduces the Philistines to the stage of history, does not describe their birth as the Torah describes the birth of other nations.

"And Mitzraim begot Ludim, Anamim, Lehavim, Naphtuhim, Patrusim, and Casluhim, whence the Pelishtim (Philistines) came forth, and Caphtorim." (BEREISHIT 10:13-14)

The Vilna Gaon explains that the birth of the Philistines was completely unnatural and that they are entirely absent from the stage of world history with the exception of specific generations in which they serve their unique function. When the Nation of Israel enters our homeland in order to build the Hebrew Kingdom – the vehicle through which all of humanity will be elevated to unparalleled blessings – the Philistines appear on the scene to try and prevent this kingdom from being established. This was true when our patriarch Avraham first entered the land (there was a "land-for-peace" deal aggressively solicited by Avimelech of Grar), it occurred when his son Yitzhak was faced with Philistine antagonism and it was true throughout the period of the Judges up until the secure establishment of the Davidic dynasty when Israel finally implemented full dominion over the country.

The Philistines then inexplicably disappear from history until modern times where they (or their spiritual descendents) once again attempt to hold up the construction of G-D's kingdom. The Gaon explains that without the necessary force of Peleshet, Israel would be unable to rise up to our essential mission and realize the true significance of Jewish sovereignty in our homeland. HaShem places this nation into our world as a catalyst for Israel to reach our full potential as a nation.

The truth in the Gaon's words is evident today. As a result of our difficult struggle with Palestinian nationalism – a national consciousness that materialized only upon our return home – Israel has failed to simply exist as a normal country but has instead been confronted with grueling questions of identity. The brutal conflict has forced us to examine who and what we truly are, as well as the core reason for returning home and establishing a state. The ostensibly legitimate territorial claims of another people to our land forces us to question not only our innate connection to our soil, but also our national function in Creation. By forcing out the bigger answers to the difficult questions they create, the modern day Philistines cause Israel to understand what it is that we are actually fighting for. And by the time we are psychologically prepared to appropriately deal with those who threaten our sovereignty, we will have already grasped the true purpose of the kingdom that will lead all mankind to a world of total blessing.
With Love of Israel,
-Yehuda HaKohen

Yeshiva World News: Echo of Huge Atzeres Tefilla in Yerushalyim in New York this coming Sunday March 9th in Lower Manhattan - Tens of Thousands expected

BS"D

Yeshiva World News: Preparations for Atzeres Tefilla on Sunday in Full Swing; Tens of Thousands Expected in Lower Manhattan from Tri-State Area and Beyond " -  "The gathering will echo last week's huge atzeres tefilla in Yerushalyim"
See more at:

My comments regarding conscription of Bnei Yeshiva:

How can those who advocate conscription into a Jewish army be in violation of Torah and even worse, charged with "uprooting Torah"?

Very much the opposite!  Going to war to protect the Land from our enemies is a Milchemet Mitzvah is a Mitzvah D'Orayta, a Mitzvah one is obligated to keep for good reason!

So then how come  hundreds of thousands of Chareidim and Torah observant Jews are heeding the call of the Gedoilim  to protest a Mitzvah D'Orayta?

The only conclusion one can make is that this is not a rally of Torah but a rally for Chomer (materialism).  Truth is being hidden behind a facade of Torah. (in the spirit of Purim but the actors aren't aware)

This can not be Torah.  The Torah clearly sanctions and advocates an army and soldiers going out to war. Concordatzia (Concordance) is filled with examples throughout Tanach when an army is necessary and a Mitzvah d'Orayta.  Chanukah and Purim is about being grateful and celebrating being victorious in battle over our enemies and Hashem's enemies!  No one would dare to suggest our forefathers, Moshe Rabbeinu, Yehoshu and Dovid Hameleh who fought battles and went to war, were uprooting the Torah. Only the Miraglim refused to conquer the Land and they and we are paying the price! Our generation must speak out against the evil counsel of the Miraglim.

For those unfamiliar with the term Gedoilim, it is also a modern Hebrew term understood by Hebrew speaking 2-3 year olds.  In English we call it #2 and it has to do with potty training.

How is Chomer, materialism involved?

When the decree to uproot Jews from their homes in Gush Katif was announced, the Gedoilim BaTorah initially came out against it.  All agreed that throwing Jews from their homes in Eretz Yisroel and giving it to non Jews is wrong.  Please look at Hamodia 12 Cheshvon 5765 in article in Hebrew entitled Knesset Members oppose the Hitnatkut under the guidance of the Moetzet Gedolei Hatorah.

Knesset Member Meir Porush is headlined to say that the Gedoilei Hatorah are against the Hitnatkut (Disengagement) like they were against Oslo and it will be shown that they were justified. This is documented in Sefer Halacha Berura," by Rabbi Yissochar Dov Rumpler shlita Page 17 with a photo of the article in Hamodia. But then, the Chomer, the money blinded wisdom and these parties received blood money.  This blood money is now blinding the Chareidi community and the Gedoilim from seeing truth of Torah.    Frankly, how from this money can any real Torah learning take place?

But the Gemorrah sees that in the time of Moshiach darkness will be transformed to Light so there is still hope!   Layehudim Haysa Ora, VeSimcha, Veyekar......

Transforming Darkness to Light http://ravkooktorah.org/BO_67.htm

The period of Ikveta deMashicha is a difficult time, and not all the Sages were eager to experience it. Rav Yosef, however, demonstrated great spiritual courage, saying, "Let the Messiah come; and may I merit to sit in the shadow of his donkey's dung" (Sanhedrin 98b). Once again, we find the metaphor of the donkey used in connection with the Messianic Era.

Rav Yosef was accustomed to looking at the inner essence of things. He recognized the tremendous inner holiness hidden in this problematic generation, as symbolized by the Messiah's donkey. Rav Yosef understood that the Messianic light will demonstrate how to utilize all forces, even the most coarse — "the donkey's dung" — for the sake of good. He knew that the darkness of national rebirth will lead to an even higher light of Torah and knowledge of God.

Rabbanim ages 20-60 need to Speak out on Behalf of Eretz Yisroel

A very disturbing article about Pioneer Youth who were violently attacked by police and then condemned by their own leaders appears in Arutz7.

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/news.php3?id=95323

The Youth under age 20 have courageously been fighting this war for Eretz Yisroel. They are too young to be soldiers. Soldiers in Tanach are between ages 20 and 60.

Let us go back to the sin of the Miraglim. The Miraglim were the leaders of Am Yisroel in the desert. They did not crave the Land of Israel. The commentators suggest that they were satisfied with their spirituality in the desert. Aside from Yehoshua bin Nun and Calev Ben Yefuneh, they melted the hearts of the people and did not speak out for Eretz Yisroel. All the men of that generation ages 20 thru 60, who were the soldiers of that generation, died out as a result (except for Yehoshua and Calev).

I hope and pray and believe that there is still time to rectify the situation in our day.

The Rabbinic Leaders have yet to openly declare (Kupat Hair does an excellent Job in public relations and getting their message across) that Eretz Yisroel is promised to Am Yisroel and that it is fundamental to the Torah.

Am Yisroel is obligated in turn to keep the Mitzvoth in order to bring Kedushah to the Land and blessings to the world.

The Roadmap is in direct opposition to G-d's Covenant in the Bible with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Here is the proof. The boundaries of the Roadmap, the land to be given to an independent Palestinian State fall in the boundaries of Judea and Samaria and Gaza. Judea, Samaria and Gaza are part of the Covenant promised exclusively to the Nation of Israel and this is spelled out in the Torah in several places.

Al Queida has mentioned the failure on our part to claim the Land promised to the Nation of Israel.

http://www.debka.com/article.php?aid=1064

Unless a public proclamation is made by our Rabbinic Leaders, how can we dispute the claim that we don't desire the gift that Hashem has bestowed upon us.

It is not too late for the Rabbanim to take a stand and claim Eretz Yisroel for the Nation of Israel. Our claim to Eretz Yisroel is clearly linked with obligations which are the Mitzvoth.

Taking such a stand will be a tremendous Kiddush Hashem and the key to our redemption!

Simchat Beit Hashoeva is Forbidden - Signs of Times in Yerushalyim

bs"d
This post is a response to the following post regarding latest Hareidi signs posted in Yerushalayim.
It's a revealing post! Unfortunately those that add to the Torah will eventually detract from the Torah.
What did Am Yisroel (Nation of Israel) do at Hakhel (Communal gathering) following the Shmitta(Sabbatical) year? The Torah says to gather men, women and children. And being a mother, I know it can get quite difficult to handle all the little ones by oneself. Especially with a large family, one needs a spouse to help. Hakhel( Hakhel Gathering) must have been a family outing. A mixed event. So the producers of your sign may argue but they were on a much higher madrega (level) than us in our generation. Our answer is that isn't our Torah binding for each and every generation. Isn't G-d aware of our humanity and human failings and even so, gave this commandment? How can they (sponsors of the sign) add a geder (a rabbinic ruling acting like a fence) that pertains to "tzniut"(modesty), which overrides a d'orayta?(A Biblical commandment) I suppose they are more frum("religious) than the Eybeshtir (G-d).
How about the Mitzvath Asei (positive commandment) of Vesamachta Bechagecha Vehayiso Ach Sameach (Being Especially Happy on the Holiday of Succoth)? and how about all the Mitzvoth D'orayta (Biblical Commandments) of Gezel (theft) and all the Gemorras (portions of the Talmud) related to property ownership such as Baba Metzia and Baba Batra and not say a word when the property of the people of Gush Katif were mamesh (actually) destroyed and residents of Gush Katif, around 10,000 people were uprooted from their homes and left homeless with no means of Parnassa (earning a living)? Where where their signs then????? Not to mention the countless MItzvoth D'orayta (Biblical commandments) regarding, Ger (Convert) Yasom (Orpahns) and Almona (Widows) that were affected, not to mention the desecration of graves who were exhumed by this terrible expulsion decree etc. etc. But I suppose Tzniyut (modesty) for them overrides all these mitzvoth D'orayta (Biblical Commandments) as well! In fact, where in the Torah does it say one must be "Tzniyut" (modest) as per their interpretations of what Tzniyut entails?
I am sorry to say but following blindly is being over (violating) the Mitzvah D'Orayta (Biblical Commandment) of Lo Yehiyeh Lachem Elokim Acharim Al Panei (Thou shalt have no other G-ds before my face)! Since when does a Rabbinic ruling override Biblical Commandments?
My question is how come we are so afraid to expose the Gedoilim (Great Rabbinic Leaders, also translated as excrement for Yiddish speaking children) i.e. the "Halachos" (Rabbinic Law) that are so clearly direct violation of the Torah (Biblical Law).
True such exposure will create chaos in the frum velt (Among very "religious Jews"). When Chas Vechalila (it should be null and void) the Holocaust happened, I believe Jews, all different types, were herded into the ghetto and even cattle cars with no consideration of Tzniut. Of course, the Germans did oblige with Tzniut and separated the men from the women in the death camps. How very frum and tzniusdik!
The terror threats that face us today are very real. Rebbetzin Jungreiss and many others see our times as 1938 Nazi Germany. Perhaps the same Hareidim that made the internet off limits also have no access to newspapers or any kind of news that might show them Current Events.
In my opinion, the dangers facing us are a direct consequence of Am Yisroel rejecting our Covenant with Hashem which is that we are promised Eretz Yisroel (the Land of Israel) on condition that we observe the mitzvoth (commandments) of the Torah in Eretz Yisroel. Yet when we hear of talk of a 2 State Solution and are Silent and when we hear of them talk of giving away Har Habayit and we are Silent then it shows that all of our Tefillos (prayers) were simply Lip Service and all of our Learning Torah was similar to the Learning of Torah of the Miraglim (the Spies) in the Desert. In spite of the Spies superior knowledge of the Torah, it was not to keep Hashem's word that motivated the Spies, but rather to discourage the Nation from entering Eretz Yisroel (the Land of Israel) and from keeping the Torah in Eretz Yisroel. For this, the Miraglim (the Spies) as well as the Nation of Israel were punished severely.
Here is our opportunity, the test of our Generation, not to repeat these tragic errors of the original sin of Lashon Hara. (Evil Talk regarding the Land of Israel)
We shall overcome!
{P.S. I too am a product of a solid Bais Yaakov (religious) education and we send our kids to similar type Yeshivas. Boy, were we turned off when they focused on the lengths of our skirts. B"h (Thank G-d) they didn't too often. In fact, I happened to have had an excellent education. Signs of this kind in Jerusalem, promoting a perverted kind of education in the name of modesty, targeting traditional wonderful Succoth celebrations will eventually be rejected by those that they educate. It's just a matter of time. We are forbidden to have intermediaries between ourselves and Hashem and make a big mistake if we ignore our Holy Torah..
The "Ikveta deMashicha" is a trying time, and not all of the Sages were eager to experience it. Yet Rav Yosef showed great spiritual fortitude, saying, "Let the Messiah come, and may I merit to sit in the shadow of his donkey's dung" [Sanhedrin 98b].

Fwd: Kiruv Campaign against the Sin of the Miraglim. This Sin of the Spies is alive and thriving in our generation. Silence of Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah regarding Judea and Samaria

bs"d

bs"d

Attention: Askanim at Arachim, Aish Hatorah, Ohr Sameach (via their website), Hakhel, Irgun Shiurei Torah, Aaron Mandel

Hundreds of thousands of Jews are reached through your Outreach.  'Will we disregard our Covenant with Hashem and the threat our Brothers and Sister in Judea and Samaria are facing.  Will we be able to look ourselves in the mirror and enjoy peace in our homes if a similar scenario to Gush Katif happens to those in Judea and Samaria?

As key educators bringing the messages of our Rabbanim to the masses, please be aware of some of the concerns that many have.
:

There is a strong activist movement that is increasingly growing disillusioned with the Gedolei Hador because they are not speaking out publicly for Torah in the face of a Chillul Hashem which is the message of President Obama's speech. .

It appears as if the Gedoilim have abandoned their brothers and sisters in Judea and Samaria and are turning a blind eye to the very real  threat facing all of Israel.

KIryat Sefer and Matisyahoo , Chareidi communities are feeling the threat as well.  Their communities have a freeze on natural growth just like the communities in Judea and Samaria.

A painful lesson of the Holocaust is that evil and its associated terror face all of those that were silent when their brothers and sisters were facing this same evil.  Silence is not inactive or benign.  It merely allows growth of the cancer to spread. This silence enables evil to gain in momentum and eventually succeed in striking those  that naively and mistakenly felt secure while their brothers and sisters homes and lives were methodically destroyed under the pretense of democracy, good faith, and false promises.

There are various ways to fight Obama's administration and their determination to establish a Palestinian State.  It is no secret that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority find much kinship with Nazi Germany.  That is the evil that is behind the mask called the Roadmap.

It's the short long road that we must take to challenge Obama effectively and the evil Roadmap rather than taking the longer short road.  The short long road is taking the time to  unite all Jews before protesting the Obama Administration.  The strategy for uniting Am Yisroel is to first enlist the support and partnership with the Torah believers and then via outreach the secular and unaffiliated Jew. In this point in time, rather than fight Obama, etc. we must face our own brothers and sisters square on, and win the internal battle of fighting the Sin of the Spies also known as the Chait Hamiraglim from our midst leading the Nation astray.

The Torah Portion read in  Eretz Yisroel;. this week is Parshat Shlach, the Parsha which speaks of the Sin of the spies.   In the Diaspora this Torah Portion is read next week.

In order to fight this internal  battle against the Sin of the  Miraglim we are calling upon the religious Jewish Print Media who pride themselves on broadcasting the message of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah as well as the major Jewish organizations,

A  fear has gripped those that subscribe to the Rabbinic tradition to be in any way critical of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah.  Yet, the Moetzes have, by their silence and misplaced humility, enabled those who promote a Palestinian Statehood accomplish this nefarious goal.  The religious Jewish Papers are continuously choosing to empower the Gedoilim and treat them with awe which in turn keeps the grip these leaders have on the masses very tight.  The religious Jewish Media will not report any material that would reflect negatively on their leadership.  AFter all they have been told that this constitutes Lashon Hara and shows a lack of Emunas Chachamim.

This in turn, has translated into a Jewish Nation being paralyzed from asserting our Jewish Identity based on the Torah out of fear of losing the good graces of the powerful key leaders who dictate what constitutes "Daas Torah".

Apparently "Daas Torah"  does not see that addressing the situation facing Judea and Samaria as noteworthy of our public attention in any concrete form and their sage council is that the only  effective thing to do is prayer and teaching and learning Torah continually. (Tefillah,  Lilmod Ulelameid) There is no public recognition that in order to keep, do and observe the Mitzvoth of the Torah in its fullest (Lishmor, Laasos Ulekayeim)  and  minimally for Mitzvoth Telyot Baaretz, we require the physical Land of Israel.

Those that determine what is "Daas Torah" are the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah.

We implore you, the Religious Jewish Radio  Media to be the voice of Judea and Samaria and the 300,000 residents who live there, to lobby the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah to end their Silence and use your medium, the radio and your wide listening audiences to do so.  Please ask  your listeners to call the members of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah and speak to  Rabbanim who have influence with the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah, and to call the Agudath Yisroel of America and each of the Rabbanim or spokespeople of the Moetzes individually if they have their contact information.  Plead with them to speak out for our Covenant with Avraham, Yitzchok and Yaakov and about our entitlement to Eretz Yisroel as an everlasting inheritance.  They can be mezakeh the Rabim to yearn and love Eretz Yisroel and to be metaken the Chait Hamiraglim.

Yasher Koach to Yishai Fleisher, Tovia Singer, and Tamar Yona for doing so much and we encourage them to continue to do as much as  possilbe in this regard.

The Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah (also abbreviated as Moetzes or The Moetzes) מועצת גדולי התורה ("Council of [great] Torah Sages") is the name for the councils that are the supreme rabbinical policy-making bodies of the two Ashkenazi Haredi political groups in Israel, Degel HaTorah and Agudat Israel, and for the social and political group in the United States that serves as the highest ranking rabbinic policy board of the Agudath Israel organization. In Israel, the Moetzet Chachmei HaTorah speaks for most Haredi Sephardi Jews.

Those rabbis who are on the Moetzet are usually the most important rosh yeshivas ("heads") of yeshivas as well as Hasidic Rebbes who are also regarded as the Gedolim ("great/est") sages of Torah Judaism.

Prior to World War Two, there was only one such body, serving the World Agudath Israel organization in Europe.

[edit] In Israel

Prior to Degel HaTorah's break from Agudat Israel (because of the dominance of the Hasidic groups), there was only one Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah in Israel; with the breakaway (led by Rabbi Elazar Shach), two separate, yet at times complementary, Moetzes's were created.

The Haredi Sephardi Jews of Israel had also at one time followed the leadership of Agudat Israel when it was still a body that spoke for most of Israel's Haredim. However, with Rabbi Shach's assistance, the Haredi Sefardim broke with their Ashkenazi counterparts and established the Moetzet Chachmei HaTorah ("Council of [wise] Torah Sages") that in turn became the source for the formulation and expression of the policies and agenda of the Shas political party in the Israeli Knesset. Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef would become the main leadership figure of this council.

Rena Cohen from Tsfat reco@isdn.net.il writes

I was listening to two radio programs very early yesterday morning Israel time.  They were both from the US
and both had a very interesting guest host who happened to be a Roman Catholic.  Here is some of what
he too said..

Do not be silent as the world decides to cut you loose and sacrifice you to another holocaust.  In the 1930
so many Jewish orgs and people did nothing to stop Hitler as the Jews refused to stand up.  Only after WWII
did they stand up and say never again.  Now we stand at the edge of another holocaust.  The mullahs in Iran
all say the same thing: Israel must be wiped off from the map.  In all Moslem countries 60 - 80 % of the people
say yes to wiping Israel off the map.  Not only is Iran planning this but the Moslem world agrees.

But what is the Jewish world doing?  Nothing much that I can hear of over here except for those of us who see
the danger and are trying to alert the rest of the Jewish world to wake up.  But will they in time?  Only HaShem
knows and let's hope that they do.  And then yesterday with all of this bubbling in my little head, the attack at
the Holocaust Museum in Washington.  Another message but will we hear it?

All the best,

Regarding Avi Shafran of Agudath Yisroel and the dangers of Jewish Blogs.

bs"d

Please read Avi Shafran's post regarding the dangers and pitfalls of Jewish blogging.

I feel that blogs can bring up important issues that reflect important issues of the day that will be swept under the rug otherwise.  The following is a case in point.

I have spoken to Avi Shafran by phone and we agree to disagree.  I have asked how come Agudath Yisroel has been silent regarding Yesha (Judea and Samaria) and have been silent about Bush's Roadmap the 2 State Solution.  Isn't this solution clearly against the Torah? What about the Torah Roadmap. It is Rabbi Shafran's opinion that we must trust the Gedoilim and as a lay person not be presumptious to question their knowledge of world events and their decision to speak out or not.  He said that perhaps their decisions are based on whether they will actually have an impact or not etc.  I answered I do not question our Gedoilim Batorah's love for Eretz Yisroel.  However, the root cause of Lashon Hara is failure to encourage the Jewish people to go to Eretz Yisroel and conquer and settle the Land.  The Miraglim the Spies, who were the spiritual leaders of the desert instead preferred to stay in the desert where there was all day learning and studying Torah.  They experienced fear to conquer the 7 Nations.  Yet Hashem said this was a grievous sin for that generation since Hashem had promised Am Yisroel Eretz Yisroel as an eternal inheritance and G-d is all powerful.

How can we ignore the Nissim Gluyim, the revealed miracles in our generation, especially the 6 Day War and the continuous miracles each and every day in Sederot and the unbelievable miracles  that happened daily in Gush Katif.  If we go happenstance than Hashem will go with us happenstance.  I didn't seem to convince Rabbi Shafran, but he did ackowledge the sincerity of my arguments.  I expressed my agreement that we must follow the Gedolim rulings and not diverge right or left but that is if these rulings are Al Pi Hatorah, by the accepted Rabbanim in Yerushalyim (the Sanhedrin) at that time as it says in the Torah.  I told him that perhaps the Gedolim's considerations were many such as money for the Torah institutions and family subsidies, backlash from the Goyim etc.  However, Emunah Peshuta of Daas Torah is that the Land of Israel belongs to Am Yisroel and we in turn are obligated to keep the Mitzvoth Teluyot Baaretz, the commandments dependant on the Land. Even Satmar should agree with that.  Halvei we should have a Sanhedrin in Yerushalyim that is accepted by all, and  whose rulings are made according to the Torah with Hashem's Blessings.  Then we would be obligated to adhere to these rulings w/o diverting right or left.  However, when on Temple Mount, Hamas broadcasts to all the Arabs on Asara Betevet, calling for the destruction of Israel, claiming that Yishmael was bound instead of Yitzchok, and only Rabbi Chaim Richman of Temple Institute and supported by the New Jewish Congress, (which includes the Sanhedrin that was established but does not represent a unified consensus) protests, and the CCJER (Coordinating Council of Jerusalem including Agudath Yisroel, Young Israel, and OU) remains silent regarding this  terrible Chillul Hashem, then isn't it reasonable in a blog to ask from the Agudath Yisroel why they choose to go with the CCJER rather than with the established Sanhedrin?  The "controversial" Sanhedrin came out against the expulsion of Gush Katif, and Rosh Agudath Yisroel, Rav Perlow, admits to it's terrible aftershocks and dismal failure to bring security and devastating consequences to the people from Gush Katif, yet Agudath Yisroel still will not speak out to prevent another Gush Katif in Yesha (Judea and Samaria).  Will we after the fact express that we share in their pain?  How about preventing the pain?  And even if we believe it wouldn't make a difference, maybe let's just try to state the emes just in case it might made a difference. If mainstream Orthodox Judaism fails to publicly object to a the Two state solution and a State of Palestine, chas veshalom, and President Bush has been talking about it since 2002, then why should President Bush even think that Eretz Yisroel, including Judea and Samaria is important to the Jews.  In fact, many Jews have concluded that Eretz Yisroel is not that important for the Jews and necessary for us to be observant Jews. After all, we are now in Galus and until Moshiach comes. Eretz Yisroel is not relevant for us practically.

But why should Moshiach reveal himself if we refuse to recognize the blatant miracles of our generation and don't show much desire to actually keep the Mitzvoth Teluyot Baaret?  The Gedoilim has ruled for good reason that it is assur to eat any produce with the Heter Mechira  which is symbolic selling of the Land, yet do not object when the Land of Israel is actually being given to Goyim? Isn't this inconsistent? How can we observe Shemittah properly when we give the Land away, assuming it was ours to give away.  Doesn't G-d say Ki Li Kol Haaretz?

Thank you for listening.

B"H
PARSHAT SHLACH LECHA
(by Yehuda HaKohen)
As the Hebrew Nation mobilizes to liberate the Land of Israel from Canaanite rule, Moshe dispatches a team of twelve scholars (a leader from each tribe) to spy out the country in preparation for the assault. Ten of these spies return with a misleading report meant to demoralize the people and prevent the conquest from taking place. The other two, Yehoshua and Calev, courageously challenge the ten in an attempt to save Israel from sin. The masses, however, follow the opinion of the ten rabbis and in so doing bring about a national catastrophe.
The spies who brought their people a demoralizing report were ostensibly demonstrating a rationalist approach to the situation. They saw and were concerned over the difficulties their people would be forced to confront when fighting to conquer the Land of Israel.
"The people that dwells in the land are powerful, the cities are fortified and very great, and we also saw the giant's descendants there... We cannot ascend against those people for they are too strong for us (mimenu)." (BAMIDBAR 13:28, 31)
Because the word mimenu can be translated as either "us" or "him" Rashi comments that it was as though they were speaking about HaShem, claiming that those Canaanite nations were even stronger than G-D.
The result was that the ten rabbis weakened Israel's resolve, leading the people to come forth with such arguments as "Why is HaShem bringing us to this land to die by the sword? Our wives and young children will be taken captive! Is it not better for us to return to Egypt?" (BAMIDBAR 14:3)
Most of Israel sided with the defeatist spies and perished in the desert over a period of forty years. The conquest of Eretz Yisrael was delayed until a new generation could arise that would be psychologically capable of fighting for their homeland. It was ultimately Yehoshua and Calev – the minority rabbinic opinion – who emerged victorious a generation later, leading Israel in the liberation of their country from foreign rule.
The ten spies that led the Hebrew Nation to catastrophe were essentially putting forth two basic arguments. The first was that preserving life overrides the conquest of Eretz Yisrael and that if taking possession of the land appears to be dangerous, the people are not required to do so.
The second opinion expressed by these rabbis was that it is possible and permissible to live true Torah lives outside of our borders; that the Nation of Israel need not be in the Land of Israel to be loyal to HaShem or to observe His Torah. But this claim in itself negates Torah Law. The spies – giants of Israel and chiefs of the Sanhedrin – rebelled against HaShem in refusing His directive to conquer the Land of Israel. Their mutiny revealed a terrible lack of faith and was a transgression far worse than that of the golden calf. For the sin of the calf, only three thousand were punished but for the sin of the spies, all male adults aside from Yehoshua and Calev died in the desert before ascending to their homeland.
The Sages teach (in Tanchuma) that the sin of the spies took place on the ninth day of Av and was the foundation for the destructions of both the first and second Temples (both occurring on the same date in future years).
Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto explains in Mesillat Yesharim (chapter 11) that the spies, who were the tribal chiefs and Torah giants of their generation "feared a lessening of their honor, lest, upon entering the land, they would no longer be princes of Israel, and others would be appointed in their place."
It is a regrettable truth that this transgression has repeated itself many times throughout our history. Spiritual leaders often refrain from educating their followers that living in, conquering and settling the entire Land of Israel are not merely commendable personal choices but actually an underlying basis for the entire Torah. But if this error has infected even great Torah scholars, we must question how so many otherwise righteous and learned leaders could miss something so vital to the Torah's full expression. The Gaon of Vilna offers an explanation in Kol HaTor (the Gaon's teachings on the process of Redemption):
"The Sin of the Spies... hovers over the Nation of Israel in every generation… How strong is the power of the Sitra Achra that it succeeds in hiding from the eyes of our holy fathers the dangers of the klipot; from the eyes of Avraham our father, the klipah of exile... and in the time of the Mashiach, the Sitra Achra attacks the guardians of Torah with blinders… Many of the sinners in this great sin of, `They despised the cherished land,' and also many of the guardians of Torah, will not know or understand that they are caught in the Sin of the Spies, that they have been sucked into the Sin of the Spies in many false ideas and empty claims, and they cover their ideas with the already proven fallacy that the mitzvah of the settlement of Israel no longer applies in our day, an opinion which has already been disproven by the giants of the world, the Rishonim and Achronim." (Kol HaTor chapter 5)
In his supplement to the Rambam's Sefer HaMitzvot, the Ramban teaches that it is a Torah commandment for every generation that the Nation of Israel take control of and inhabit the entire Land of Israel.
"This is what our Sages call Milchemet Mitzvah... And do not err and say that this precept is the commandment to vanquish the seven nations... this is not so... this land is not to be left in their hands or in the hands of any nation, in any generation whatsoever... behold we are commanded with conquest in every generation... if so this is a positive commandment, which applies in every time... and the proof that this is a commandment is this: `They were told to go up in the matter of the Spies: Go up and conquer as HaShem has said to you.
The Ramban states irrefutably that the conquest and settlement of Eretz Yisrael is a mitzvah for Israel in every generation and that we are forbidden from allowing any part of our country to fall into – or remain under – gentile control.
As for the spies' erroneous claim that preserving Jewish life overrides the commandment of liberating the Land of Israel, it is clear that conquering territory from a foreign nation is naturally an act that involves physical danger. While the Torah commands Israel in most cases to preserve Hebrew life even at the expense of Torah Law, this cannot be applied to a Divine commandment that is, in its very essence, life threatening. Because the Torah obligates the Jewish Nation to fight for the liberation of Eretz Yisrael, the notion of Pikuach Nefesh (preserving life) is not considered. Rather, a war of liberation requires great Mesirut Nefesh (self-sacrifice).
"The mitzvot of the Torah are not based on the occurrence of miracles. The mitzvah to wage war is given to us despite the fact that in the natural course of events both sides suffer casualties in the heat of battle. Evidently the mitzvah applies even though there is inherent hazard…" (Minchat Chinuch commentary to Sefer HaChinuch 425)
The Gaon of Vilna writes in his introduction to Paat HaShulchan that "all of the wisdoms of the world are for the sake of the Torah and are included within It." As HaShem's national expression in this world, Israel must have an all encompassing vision of Torah that recognizes the Divine inner unity of everything in existence. The fragmented vision that caused the spies to feel like grasshoppers in comparison to the giants of Hevron is the same fragmented vision – dimmed by nearly two thousand years of humiliating exile – that causes many contemporary Jewish leaders to relate to the present as something isolated in history and to themselves as insignificant when compared to the leaders of foreign nations. This unhealthy perspective must be replaced by a higher understanding – one that views HaShem as the Source of all, guiding world history towards an ultimate goal of universal perfection. Israel must learn to see the world from the roots above and to view history in its entirety; to have an all encompassing vision of where Creation is being led and what this means for our people and for all of mankind. Only by attaining this greater vision and self awareness can Israel understand our true national mission and the purpose of Torah as the blueprint for Creation.
With Love of Israel,
-Yehuda HaKohen

Activists Arrested After Being Attacked By Arabs
by Gavriel Queenann
June 15, 2011
(Israelnationalnews.com) Women in Green head Nadia Matar was detained
Wednesday by Civil Administration oficials after a violent
confrontation initiated by Arabs near Netzer.
Matar's saga began Tuesday night when Women in Green planted several
large olive trees on state-owned land near Netzer on a hill connecting
the Jewish communities of Elazer and Alon Shvut to stop Arab
encroachment.
"Arabs had started planting vines there, squatting on state owned
land. Then they started fencing it in and we knew we had to step in.
We ordered a huge truck and came in the night. We planted many large
olive trees and hooked up irrigation pipes for them. Then we posted a
guard because, when we've done this in the past, the Arabs try to
uproot the trees," Matar told Israel National News.
Wednesday morning Matar said she received a phone call from the sentry
telling her local Arab farmers with saws were cutting the trees down.
Matar, her partner Yehudit Katzover, and their supporters rushed to
the scene where they were violently confronted by the Arabs.
"When we came we saw the Arabs cutting the trees with saws. They had
already uprooted the irrigation pipes. They threatened us, pushed and
attacked us," Matar related. "We started putting the irrigation pipes
back together and they started striking us. Of course we immediately
called for the army to come."
Shortly after the initial confrontation Civil Admininistration
officials, along with police and army officers, arrived to investigate
the incident and took Nadia and Yehudit into custody for questioning
after the Arabs accused them of being the aggressors.
"This is a time-honored tradition among the Arabs: to attack you and
then claim to be the vicitms. As soon as we called the Army one of the
Arab women there told her son to lie down and showed him how to
pretend he was hurt. The performance he put on would have won him an
award in any theater. He played the perfect victim. So the police
arrested us, Yehudit and I, as well as the Arabs," Matar said.
Matar and Katzover were held and interrogated by police until four in
the afternoon before being released. The two thanked lawyer Adi Keidar
of Honenu for his efforts on their behalf.
"The police held me for a very long time. They were very angry. They
yelled at me and demanded we name the other Jews who were present. I
refused. I told them I was there to complain about the Arabs planting
on state-owned land and attacking us and would talk about nothing
else," Matar related.
"I told them the other Jews did not want to be involved because they
know that whenerver a Jew files a complaint against an Arab they
become the accused. When my interrogator heard that, he threatened me
with obstruction charges. I told him he was proving my point. Finally,
when Yehudit was released, she was able to get me out," Matar related.
Matar, who cited the incident as a victory, said she and the Arabs
were issued a restraining order forbidding them from going to the
Netzer site for fifteen days while the Army investigated who owned the
land.
"If you call and complain Arabs are stealing state-owned land, nothing
happens. They will only intervene if their is a confrontation. So, by
doing this, we forced the army to come. Now they will review the maps
and be forced to make a decision on the land's status," Matar
explained.
"We always research first," Matar said. "We always have maps and
survey the areas we patrol. We know what the army will find. They say
no one will be allowed in until a decision is made, but we will
continue our patrols. Sometimes confrontation is the only way to force
the authorties to stand up for Jewish rights."
Matar was charged with obstruction and tresspassing before being
released on bail. Israel Police spokesperson Mickey Rosenthal said
Matar was obligated to cooperate with investigators.
"As the spokesperson I can't comment on the exact tone or what have
you of Ms. Matar's interview - we expect officers to be cool and
collected as there is normally no need for elevated emotions in an
interview - but she is obligated to cooperate and provide
investigators with any information relevant to their investigation.
Its her duty," Rosenthal said.
The IDF had not responded to queries for information by the time this
article was published.

Destruction of Netiv Ha'Avot Could Have Been Prevented by a Single Order of the Prime Minister

Eviction at Netiv HaAVot. Where is the IDF/ Police restraint against the Jewish Youth Dissenters? These kids are not giving up without a fight. Unarmed against a force much more powerful than them. Once again we let them down and it's now on their shoulders to fight this on their own. They don't know about backroom deals and negotiations. All they know is that the Land of Israel belongs to Am Yisroel.

Campaign against the Sin of the Miraglim. This Sin of the Spies is alive and thriving in our generation. Silence of Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah regarding Judea and Samaria.

bs"d

Attention:  Editors and Publishers of the Jewish Press, Yated, Hamodia and Mishpacha Magazine

There is a strong activist movement that is increasingly growing disillusioned with the Gedolei Hador because they are not speaking out for Torah.

We implore you, the Religious Jewish Print  Media to be the voice of Judea and Samaria and the 300,000 residents who live there, to lobby the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah to end their Silence and use your medium, the print medium and your wide circulation to do so.

[edit] In the United States

In the United States, Agudah's policies and leadership are directed by the council, which is comprised primarily of rosh yeshivas and Hasidic rebbes. Formerly known as the Moetzes Chachmei HaTorah, the body was started in 1941. It sets all major policies and guides the organization according to its precepts of Da'as Torah.
