Did Trump betray Israel by not moving Embassy? David Bedein of CFNEPR says the opposite. It was a good thing.

Best Not to Move US Embassy to Jerusalem Until US law is Changed
Silver lining in the delay to move the US embassy to Jerusalem:  New momentum to update the relocation law to recognize Jerusalem as part of Israel.

Covering events in the US capitol when Congress passed the "US Embassy Jerusalem and Recognition Act" in October 1995, there were great expectations that the US would then renounce its position adopted in 1948 that Jerusalem would not be recognized as a part of Israel.
There was also speculation that the US would abandon its position from 1948 stating that all of Jerusalem must be a corpus separatum – an international zone.
However, the final wording of the US Embassy Jerusalem and Recognition Act removed any explicit references to Jerusalem as part of Israel and made no promise that Jerusalem would remain the exclusive capital of Israel.

David Bedein makes a good point.  So long as the US Embassy Jerusalem and Recognition Act doesn't consider Jerusalem part of Israel but rather as an International Zone, then moving the embassy might in fact make matters worse by those who see the move as an opportunity to internationalize Jerusalem.

We surely wouldn't want the Internationalization of Jerusalem be the end result of this embassy move.

It is a fact that individuals born in Jerusalem can not have Jerusalem, Israel written on their passports.

David Bedein's conclusion: This decision not to move the embassy should cause a momentum to update the relocation law to recognize Jerusalem as Part of Israel.

How to communicate Middle East policy concerns to the US Congress | Israel Behind the News

Fwd: Shireen Qudosi. Muslim Reformer. Qudosi permanently banned from Facebook. Facebook takes sides to protect Radical Islam and to suppress those who effectively expose and protest Radical Islam?

The article below was in this week's newsletter and people have been asking who Shireen Qudosi is. I don't know too much about her, but the few things I do know, put her in a small and important group of individuals. You will find her on several web sites, including thefederalist.com where she writes "Trump's 'Islam Speech' Invited The Muslim World To A Renaissance" and "Linda Sarsour's Muslim Identity Politics Epitomize Feminism's Hypocrisy",  muslimreformers.com, where she has a rather lengthly article "MY STORY: HOW I BECAME A MUSLIM REFORMER", and clarionproject.org, where the by-line is Challenging Radical Islam, Promoting Human Rights, and they have an article "Muslim Activist Qudosi Banned Permanently From Facebook".  We are told that a little over 30% of Muslims support terror, we are also told that only about 10% of Germans actually were committed to Nazi-ism. We often hear people asking where the moderate Muslims are? Here is your answer.

In case you missed it, here is the article we included this past Shabbat, below is the short article about Qudosi standing up to the Muslim Brotherhood.  You can follow the other links if you wish.

The World Needs to Drive Out Destructive Fantasies

Shireen Qudosi

The most iconic moment of President Donald Trump's visit to the Middle East was not his "speech on Islam"; it was his visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

The Western Wall is a contested space, and that controversy has bled outside Israel's borders. U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson recently reignited the debate, mentioning the Wall as being in "Jerusalem", instead of in Israel. It is a play on language often used to deny Israeli sovereignty over a space that clearly belongs to the Jewish people, as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, quickly rectified in response.

How we talk about religion matters. If we want to be effective in moving forward, it is important to be truthful. The truth is that Israel won the Six Day War, thereby liberating eastern Jerusalem from Jordan, which had seized it illegally when it attacked Israel in 1948-49 and expelled all Jews from eastern Jerusalem.

Israel has earned the right to reclaim Jerusalem fully. This also means that the Palestinians and other powers such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the UN and domestic interest groups do not get a veto over reality. If the new foreign policy standard is to work together to combat destructive forces, then it is also important to recognize that it is destructive to start a discussion from positions of falsehoods.

If we are going to "reset" the Middle East, we need to reset our thinking as well, starting with accepting that Israel has a right to exist. That includes confronting calls for the annihilation of the Jewish people, and contesting the dishonest re-imagining of borders that quite literally erase Israel from the map. Israel exists, and Israel has a legitimate claim to Jerusalem. Further, the Jewish people have proven themselves as more capable custodians of Jerusalem than their Muslim neighbors, who are already burdened by challenges in their own territory.

The world also needs to stop aiding the Palestinians in believing they have not lost the war. For the Palestinian people to build a vibrant society of their own, the world needs to abandon the collection of fantasies it has allowed the Palestinians to keep. There is no "right of return" and the dismantling of all settlements is not possible, especially if the entire state of Israel is regarded by many as one big settlement.

Then there is the issue of Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Muslim devotion to the Temple Mount stems from a story in which the Islamic Prophet Muhammad is said to have dreamt traveling from Mecca to Jerusalem to the Heavens beyond space and time (and back) all in one night. The tale of the night ascent is a spiritual journey with only brief mention in the Quran, while second-hand sources in hadiths colored in the rest of the story years after the prophet's death. The Temple Mount rests on historically Jewish territory. It is a generosity to allow it to remain under Muslim control, especially when the claim to the territory is based on a dream the Quran touches on only briefly. Typically, a dream does not secure land rights (even in centuries prior). A person cannot reasonably expect to get a key and deed to another person's home simply because they dreamed they visited it. It is an absurd claim.

Critical Muslim thinkers drive out fantasies from our faith. Alongside us, the world must drive out the fantasy that Jerusalem is not Israel's capital. Jerusalem is the heart and soul of Israel. To deny Jerusalem as a part of Jewish and Israeli identity is the same as denying Mecca as inherent to Muslim identity.

Finally, the world must drive out the belief that Palestinians do not have to make peace with Israel. It is abusive and counter to the interests of a future thriving Palestinian society to indulge in a warring fantasy that Israel can be destroyed. Instead of fetishizing the destruction of Israel, Palestinians would truly improve their lives if they started working to rebuild their own society rather than take on additional territory that could be governed or cared for with the respect and sanctity for history that Jerusalem deserves.

Palestinians would be better served addressing bedrock issues in their own society, including holding their people accountable for the hate indoctrinated into the hearts and minds of every Palestinian as soon as they learn to walk and talk. Stop financially supporting families of terrorists. Stop calling terrorists martyrs. Stop sacrificing your children and celebrating their deaths.

Muslim Activist Qudosi Banned Permanently From Facebook

Facebook has intervened in a political dispute between Muslim reformist and activist Shireen Qudosi and Muslim leader Javed Ali by banning Qudosi permanently from Facebook.

The spat originated after Qudosi stood up for Clarion Project's National Security Analyst Ryan Mauro, who provided training in San Diego to various police departments last week on what to be aware of when fighting radical Islam.

Mauro was subjected to a silencing campaign by the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which attempted to shut down the training sessions by inundating the police with complaints. CAIR was founded by Muslim Brotherhood members and was designated by the FBI as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial, the largest terrorism financing trial in American history.

CAIR was designated as a terrorist organization in 2014 by the United Arab Emirates.

After Qudosi wrote a post in defense of Mauro, Ali got in touch with her to harangue her for her support of Clarion and to accuse her of selling out for money to anti-Muslim interests.

Qudosi warned him to leave her alone, saying she would publish screenshots of his comments if he did not. She did publish the screenshots and a post slamming Ali.

The post was removed for "violating Facebook's Community Guidelines" and she was initially given a two-day suspension. Subsequently, she was banned permanently and her account disabled.

All previous messages between her and others, in an Orwellian twist, have been erased, redacted as if they had never been sent.

Qudosi told Clarion she suspects Ali of calling on his supporters to flood Facebook with complaints about her until she was banned.

Facebook's cavalier attitude to free speech is seriously endangering the fight against Islamism.

Today's Commentary:  Blunt Talk -- President Trump's Budget -- The New Plan To Retake Congress

READ THIS NEWSLETTER ON MIKEHUCKABEE.COM.

Robin,

While President Trump was in Europe, he ruffled some feathers of European leaders with his blunt talk about expecting them to pay more for their own defense in NATO and his refusal to recommit America to the Paris climate change accord (which even liberal analysts admit is meaningless: it does nothing to reduce CO2 emissions in developing nations that account for 4/5ths of them; and even if you accept all its scientific claims, it would result in a temperature difference of just 0.2 degrees C. by the end of the century.)

Turns out European leaders don't care for that old liberal saw about "speaking truth to power" when they're the powers and they don't want to hear the truth. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is facing a tough election, even made a veiled dig at Trump by suggesting that America was no longer a reliable ally. She said, "The times in which we can fully count on others are somewhat over, as I have experienced in the past few days," and added that "we have to know that we have to fight for our future and our fate ourselves as Europeans."

That's particularly ironic considering that the fate of Germany is under threat largely because of her own disastrous policy of opening up the borders and allowing her nation to be overrun with people who have no interest in preserving Germany as a European nation. Chancellor Merkel seems to have as much trouble telling who her friends are as she does telling who her enemies are.

Sincerely,

Mike Huckabee

President Trump's Budget

By Mike Huckabee

President Trump says his proposed budget's welfare funding is centered on expecting able-bodied people with no dependents to work in exchange for benefits, so they don't take away "scarce resources from those in real need." His OMB Director Mick Mulvaney said this focus on getting Americans back to work is how we're going to return to 3% GDP growth, adding, "We're no longer going to measure compassion by the amount of money we spend, but by the number of people we help."

Cue Democratic politicians and the media howling in outrage about how mean this is (Hillary Clinton already decried the Trump budget for its "unimaginable level of cruelty.") But is it really "cruelty" to expect people to work for their supper?

This is really just a return to what most Americans have believed since the nation was founded: that everyone who can work should work, and charity is for those who truly need it. Every so often, the voters put liberals in charge, but they soon realize their mistake as they institute massive government entitlement programs that come cloaked in an aura of "compassion" but really are unimaginably cruel. They undermine the initiative and self-respect of the recipients while burdening future generations with unimaginable levels of debt. We saw it in the '60s and '70s, when attempts to create a "Great Society" just created a great big mess in inner cities. That eventually helped fuel the return of conservatism in the form of Ronald Reagan, who reminded us that compassion shouldn't be measured by how many people are getting government handouts but by how many no longer need a handout.

Welfare-to-work reform works, but somehow (possibly due to the constant liberal lectures of Barack Obama, echoed and magnified by a worshipful media), Americans forgot that ancient wisdom, even as food stamp rolls ballooned by over 40% during Obama's term. The last time welfare reform was tried was in the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act. Liberals predicted cruelty and disaster from that, too, but it not only helped reduce welfare rolls by 60% between 1994 and 2005, it helped boost the economy and give the government a balanced budget for the first time in years. The President who signed it said that it "gives us a chance we haven't had before to break the cycle of dependency that has existed for millions and millions of our fellow citizens, exiling them from the world of work. It gives structure, meaning and dignity to most of our lives." You'd think Hillary would remember those wise words, since that's what her own husband Bill said when he signed it in 1996.

The New Plan To Retake Congress

By Mike Huckabee

Democrats think they've hit on a way to retake Congress: they're trying to recruit military veterans to run against Republicans. The idea (not that they put it this way) is to borrow some of the military's reputation for competence, patriotism and integrity to paper over the bad reputation of their party. And it might work, if they can find enough veterans willing to run as Democrats. The problem is, how many of them will stay in Congress beyond one term? Judging from this story, the veterans they've recruited so far say they are running because they're fed up with unprofessional histrionics and political partisanship blocking the mission of fixing the broken system. Wait until they get to Congress as Democrats and on their very first day, they learn to their dismay that if they want party leaders to give them any decent committee assignments, they have to dedicate themselves to lockstep partisanship and protecting and even expanding the broken federal system at all costs.

This story notes that since the 1970s, the percentage of Congress members with military experience has dropped from 73% to 18.8%. That's not entirely attributable to the end of the draft, since there are nearly three times as many freshmen Republicans who are veterans as there are Democrats. That's not to say that the Democratic Party is hostile to veterans. But it's just hard to imagine that anyone who's devoted to concepts like a colorblind merit system and placing the good of America above all other interests would be able to stomach representing the far-left, grievance-group, blame-America-first Democratic Party of 2017 for very long.
