So how can you help? Participate with us in this mitzvah. The approximate cost per combat company for Tzizit is $1,800. A full battalion is $5,000. Whatever amount you or any of your friends or congregants can do in this regard is appreciated. It all adds up accordingly. Sidurim are $1.30 each and packages that we are having prepared for the soldiers are about $3 each. Send us an email. Let us know how much you can sponsor - email me at DavidBibi@gmail.com and send a check made out to the Sephardic Congregation of Long Beach c/o Rabbi David Bibi, 979 Third Avenue, suite 1705 New York, NY 10022. I am sure that based on our experience with the gum, you will generously assist us here too and we will be able to double our order and add care packages for each soldier. These young men and women serving in the armed forces need us to know we are there for them.

Editors Notes
How Can I Help?
"Tell the people that when you cross into the land of Canaan, you shall drive out all people who live there and destroy all their symbols, idols and places of worship. I have given this land to you. If you do not drive out the people who live there then those left behind will become like a thorn in your side.  They will oppress you as enemies in the land in which you dwell…"

As I write this, our prayers and our thoughts are with the brave soldiers of the IDF who hope their mission into Gaza will yield some relief for the residents of Israel who find themselves under the constant rocket attack which has gone on for years and now threatens eighty percent of the country. The discovery of dozens of sophisticated tunnels whose sole purpose is to terrorize the people is chilling.

The question that is posed to me again and again is, "how can I help?"  Every misvah we do, every prayer we offer, every chapter of Psalms we read helps to reinforce the spiritual iron dome of protection. We can each spiritually adopt a soldier – visit Shmiraproject.com or call 443-203-8592 to participate.  But we can and should do more.

I am reminded of a call my wife received in December of 2008 prior to operation caste lead. A friend told her of the army's need for packs of a special high dose caffeinated gum that was unavailable  in Israel at the time. They wanted a pack for each soldier and needed someone to purchase the gum and then deliver the gum to Israel preferably within a few days. That was on a Wednesday if I recall correctly and Chantelle contacted the manufacturer that day and arranged for the huge purchase and a special delivery over night to our home charging everything to her credit card. After it arrived, she packed the gum into carry on duffles and arranged for a large group of students to each carry a bag onto their plane. She and her friend Shoshana Pilevsky delivered the gum with police assistance to Newark airport and miraculously the El Al jet waited for them. They were whisked through security and the duffles arrived in Israel the next day Friday where the students were met at Ben Gurion. The gum was distributed in the field on Sunday morning. When I wrote about all the amazing coincidences that allowed this all to happen,  in a matter of hours so many of our readers wanted to participate in the cost of the project and pledged and later on sent in tens of thousands in donations. We, through your generosity, were able to accommodate a request for a second shipment a week later.

But this year nobody asked for gum.

With many friends who have children in the army and with our own children identifying with their own friends who have volunteered to serve we realize that one of the most important things for those serving especially the youngest of them is knowing that people around the world are with them in spirit and are supporting them. For them to realize that they are not alone is crucial.

With that in mind my daughter Mikhayla and a couple of friends started a project last week called challah for our soldiers. Within a day they had a website up challahforoursoldiers.org and arranged for volunteers from New Jersey to LA  and in three cities in Israel as well. In more than a dozen places around the country challot are baked and sold and in turn thousands of challot and care packages are distributed to the soldiers on the front. Imagine the emotion when one of these kids receives a package. "I am not alone".

I marvel had how amazing these kids are and how much they care. And you can participate by visiting their website. Every nickel collected goes to help. There are no administrative costs. Even the challah baking and supplies are donated. And this week they have added a feature, "Write a letter to a soldier."

But the question still remained. What else could we do? And here's where I need all of you to get involved.

On Friday, my colleague Rabbi Yosef Colish put me in touch with the rabbinate of the friends of the IDF. The challenge after repeated requests from the command level both from units in the south around Gaza and in Judea and Samaria was as follows.

They needed Olive green "dri-fit" Tzitzit (what many of the combat soldiers in the field call: "HaShaChPaTZ  HaAmiti" - the real bullet proof vest!)  Which the IDF Rabbinate is supplying as fast as it can but does not have the significant quantities it needs. The necessity is many tens of thousands more as the Operation expands together with a major call-up of reserve combat troops.

My first thought was for us as a community to sponsor at least five thousand pairs.

Then after speaking with Lt. Colonel Rabbi Yedidya, I felt we should also undertake to sponsor a printing of the Magen Yisrael Tehillim-Siddur for Combat Soldiers. They were printing 40,000 copies but with our commitment they were able to go into another printing this morning (Monday) of another 20,000. Each siddur is made pocket size and is enclosed in a transparent thick plastic envelope to fit exactly in the soldier's fatigue shirt pocket.

A popular saying is that there are no atheists in the fox hole. Just imagine how important these Tzitzit and siddurim with tehillim are to these boys. And knowing they are coming from their friends in America compounds that importance. As my daughter suggested, we need them to know that we are one nation with one heart.

So on Sunday night, without having collected a dollar in donations and anticipating the generosity of our readers and friends, we sent them a check for both the Tzitzit and the books.

As of this writing after speaking in my own Synagogue and some of the guys in the early minyan at the Safra Synagogue on 63rd street, we already have commitments of $18,000 and we would like to triple that. With your help we will.

This week's portion of Masei names all 42 encampments of Bnei Yisrael on their 40-year journey from the Exodus until the crossing of the Jordan River into Eretz Yisrael. The journey was made as one nation with one heart. Let us continue that journey together. Let us prove especially during these three weeks and this time of need that we can be one people with one heart.

Please join me.

Shabbat Shalom,

David Bibi

Hallel - Praise, Gratitude and Thanks to Hashem for all His Miracles especially now in Operation Protective Edge! Nishmat Kol Chai & The Pollard Connection

bs"d

Over 2,000 rockets have been fired at Israel and there has been only one fatality from the rockets. Baruch Hashem bli ayin hara.  Let us praise Hashem for His continuous miracles and for protecting us! May we have no more fatalities from the ground operation as well and may Hashem protect and guard each and every Israeli Soldier in harms way!

It can not be denied that there is a G-d in Heaven who is protecting us because statistically there is no other explanation.  Similarly this happened when the 39 Scuds fell in 2001. Over 5,000 rockets hit Gush Katif in the 4 years leading up to their expulsion in 2005 and the miracles are documented in the Gush Katif Pesach Hagaddah. Miracles of the 1967 War are well documented...Not to mention the miracles of 1948 and every subsequent war.....

Please Father in Heaven, keep Kerry (happenstance) out of the picture.... We depend on You Alone.......Thank you Hashem for your ongoing miracles and for watching over us.... Hinei Lo yanum velo Yishan Shomer Yisroel. The Guardian of Israel never slumbers or sleeps!

There is no one that we can lean upon except Our Father in Heaven! Therefore....

Let us Sing Praise to Hashem....Ain Anachnu Maspikim Lehodos Lecha....!

I searched online for an English Translation of this expression of thanks and gratitude to Hashem and I found it on Jonathan Pollard's website!  I can't think of a greater person who in spite of all his trials and tribulations, and all his years of suffering due to anti-Israel sentiment  would publicize our need to constantly Praise Hashem!

Let us not forget Jonathan Pollard and pray for him along with all the other Soldiers fighting on our behalf!

Understanding Nishmat Kol Chai & The Pollard Connection
J4JP Release - July 11, 2003 - Addendum #1

"Were our mouth as full of song as the sea, and our tongue as full of joyous song as its multitude of waves, and our lips as full of praise as the breadth of the heavens, and our eyes as brilliant as the sun and the moon, and our hands as outspread as the eagles of the sky and our feet as swift as hinds -- we still could not thank You sufficiently, HaShem our God and God of our forefathers, and to bless Your Name for even one of the thousand thousand, thousands of thousands and myriad myriads of favors, miracles and wonders that you performed for our ancestors and for us."

What is Nishmat Kol Chai?
Nishmat Kol Chai is a song of praise and thanksgiving to the Almighty. Apart from its place in the Jewish liturgy on the Sabbath and Holidays and at the Passover Seder, Nishmat Kol Chai is a powerful "segula" which brings great blessing to whomever says this prayer at any time. People in need of a livelihood, marriage, children, health and/or healing, protection from danger, and success in all endeavors, can pray for these things by saying Nishmat Kol Chai. While praying Nishmat Kol Chai a person can keep other people in mind for a blessing or a healing as well.
What is Zikui HaRabim?
Any person who facilitates or enables the public to do a mitzvah is doing a meta mitzvah called Zikui HaRabim, "giving merit to the many". Our sages tell us that the blessing that accrues from Zikui HaRabim is immeasurable and continues throughout the generations until eternity for the individual and for their descendants.
What is the Pollard Connection to Nishmat Kol Chai?
With the blessing of His Eminence HaRav Mordecai Eliyahu, Esther and Jonathan Pollard have undertaken an initiative to make it possible for EVERYONE to say Nishmat Kol Chai! How? By doing a mass distribution of this prayer along with a Special Prayer for Jonathan. By doing Zikui HaRabim in this manner, enormous merit will accrue both for Jonathan and for the Jewish People and this can only help to speed Jonathan's release and the redemption of the Nation.

FAA Ban on Israel. Ted Cruz enraged, Netanhayu: FAA ban on flights to Israel is a Mistake and Rewards Hamas Terror. Former NYC Mayor Bloomberg: Ben-Gurion Airport is probably the safest airport in the whole world to fly in and out of

FAA Ban on Flights to Israel ‘Worse than BDS’
The FAA's standards for determining whether a U.S. flag carrier can fly to every other spot in the world are apparently different from -- and more accommodating to travel than -- the standard the United States has applied to Israel for the last 48 hours.

Obama's FAA has extended a ban on US flights to and from Israel's international airport, in a thinly veiled attempt to pressure Israel to accept a ceasefire.
BREAKING: Obama Launches Flight Boycott of Israel July 23, 2014 By Ben Marquis
http://conservativetribune.com/obama-flight-boycott-of-israel/

"...Texas Senator Ted Cruz is now asking if Obama is deliberately trying to impose economic hardship on Israel, citing Israel’s reliance on tourism money for their economy, which has been abruptly curtailed by the flight ban.

“Aiding Hamas while simultaneously isolating Israel does two things. One, it helps our enemy. Two, it hurts our ally,” said Sen. Ted Cruz, adding “The facts suggest that President Obama has just used a federal regulatory agency to launch an economic boycott on Israel, in order to try to force our ally to comply with his foreign-policy demands.”

Cruz points out that thousands of rockets have been fired into Israel over the course of the past few weeks, and wonders why suddenly there is such a concern for safety that all flights must be cancelled.

He makes note that the downed Malaysian airliner in the Ukraine is being cited as an excuse, but points out that US flights are still going in and out of the Ukraine, despite the obvious risk.  He also points out that US flights are flying in and out of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen, hotbeds of terrorist activity that pose just as much of a risk to commercial airlines as Hamas does.

Ted Cruz wants to know if the decision to ban flights to Israel is truly based on safety concerns, or if it is a political decision.  He is demanding to know if there has been any communication between the FAA, the State Department, and the White House.

Obviously nobody wants a civilian airliner to be targeted by terrorists, and airlines should definitely keep the safety of their planes, crews, and passengers at the forefront of their operations.  But as Cruz noted, flights continue to go in and out of other extremely dangerous airports at various locations around the world.

Cruz is right in his suggestion that this is a political decision.  The move to ban flights in and out of Israel does little more than isolate Israel, putting pressure on them to accept the demands of Europe, the UN, and others with an anti-Israeli sentiment.

The flight ban should be lifted, and allow airlines to fly in and out at their own risk.  If it truly is too dangerous, then airlines will voluntarily divert their craft away from the danger zone.

Please share this on Facebook and Twitter if you think that Obama has deliberately cancelled flights to and from Israel to pressure them to accept a ceasefire agreement.

Before I read the links above above these were my thoughts.  These concerns are shared by many and are clearly justified.

My thoughts: The FAA ban to fly to Israel.  Is this an attempt of the Obama Administration to twist Israel's arm to accept a ceasefire or simply a desire to weaken Israel?  I can't believe it is in order to protect the passengers alone. Why can't passengers decide whether or not they wish to take the risk?  Did the FAA ban flights from all countries that are in a war, or just Israel? If there has been barely any fatalities as a result of the rocket attacks, and not one rocket has hit a plane bli ayin hara, and Israel is perhaps the safest airport in the world, what is the justification of banning flights?  If it's the insurance companies than perhaps others can come forth to insure these passengers. Perhaps Israel itself would be willing to help insure the airlines? I called Senator Schumer's office and urged the Senator 202-224-6542 to speak out to lift the FAA ban and I encourage you to lobby all elected officials, friends of Israel,  in the US to do the same.

Today's Top Stories
1. Foreign airline carriers — all of them — suspended flights to and from Ben Gurion Airport. According to Globes, only Israel's three airlines — El Al, Arkia, and Israir are "continuing routine operations." This came after a Hamas rocket struck a house in Yehud, a Tel Aviv suburb five km (three miles) from the airport complex. As a result, Ovda Airport near Eilat will replace Ben Gurion for now.

Israeli officials say the bans amount to rewarding terror, but AP notes that the aviation world is jittery after the downing of a Malaysian Airlines passenger jet over Ukraine. The Christian Science Monitor explains what the airport means to Israel:

Imagine if the United States had only one airport and that driving in and out of the country wasn't really an option. That should give you an idea of how important Ben Gurion Airport is to both Israel's economy and its sense of national well-being . . .
The last time major international carriers suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv was in 1991, ahead of and during the first Gulf War, when Saddam Hussein lobbed Scud missiles towards Israel.

Subject: Statements by PM Netanyahu and Former NYC Mayor Bloomberg

Statements by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Former New York City
Mayor Michael Bloomberg
(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, today (Wednesday, 23 July 2014), while en
route from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, where he is due to meet with US Secretary
of State John Kerry, went to Ben-Gurion International Airport to welcome
former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Following are excerpts of
their remarks.

Prime Minister Netanyahu:

"Michael, you are a welcomed guest on any day, but especially on this day,
to come here as a true leader, a true friend and as a man of standing and
truth. And the truth is, that you wanted to demonstrate by coming here, is
that this airport is open. You can fly in and out of Israel. We protect this
airport. There's no reason whatsoever for the mistaken FAA decision to
instruct American planes not to come here. I think you're proving it by
coming here. Where I stand, the Prime Minister of Israel, where you stand,
anybody can stand. I think this decision only rewards the Hamas terrorists
for nothing. You can fly in and out of Israel and I hope that the FAA
rescinds this decision as soon as possible."

Michael Bloomberg:

"Thank you. Let me just say that every time I come here, I'm reminded of
history, of where my family comes from, of freedom and democracy. This is
the only democratic country in this part of the world, a true democracy
where everybody has a chance to express themselves and practice the
religions that they want to practice in the ways they want to. In terms of
coming here, if – I would argue that Ben-Gurion Airport is probably the
safest airport in the whole world to fly in and out of. This is a country
that's been threatened since its existence back in 1948, when the United
Nations created this country as a homeland for the Jews. And Israelis know
what it is to keep people safe and in terms of that also."

Kerry Pledges $47 Million in Aid for Gaza. Keep Kerry Away! We have Work To Do...Hakoras Hatov to Hashem and to our Soldiers. Rely on Hashem and not on Kerry (happenstance)

bs"d

Kerry Pledges $47 Million in Aid for Gaza
U.S. Secretary of State says Gaza operation is "appropriate and legitimate" but adds he is "deeply concerned" about its consequences.

Keep Kerry Away; We have Work to Do! Monday, July 21, 2014 Batya Medad

Each time Kerry comes it's a disaster!  He came on Asara Beteves and Jerusalem was in a snow siege. http://shemittahrediscovered.blogspot.com/2013/12/on-snowstorm-kerry-watch-rav-richter.html

When he met with Netanyahu in Washington DC, Washington DC was closed down.

Kerry almost came on Shiva Asar BeTamuz but miraculously cancelled after Hamas broke the cease fire.

I would predict that if G-d wanted to bring upon us tragedy, (heaven forbid), Kerry would be coming to Israel on Tisha Baav (heaven forbid...)

Egypt knows how to deal with Kerry.  They set the terms and not America.  Kerry knows that he can not pull their strings any more. They haven't forgotten that America supported the Muslim Brotherhood against Sisi's gov't. America is paying dearly for that now and it is for this reason Kerry recently had to cancel his flight to Egypt several times. Probably they told him it didn't pay for him to come...

We can learn from them how to politely tell Kerry to stay far away from us,  thanks but no thanks and that we'll let him know when we need him...hopefully never....

With Israel united,  let us sing praise and express our Hakoras Hatov, our deep thanks and appreciation to the Borei Olam, to our Father up in Heaven...

...who has been protecting His people and his army,

... and acknowledge the countless, wondrous miracles Hashem has been performing for us

...now and in the past whenever Israel has been threatened,

and...

let us not attribute victory to

...Kochi VeOtzem Yadi, my strength and my prowess
...especially to the military brilliance and strength of Tzahal as we mistakenly did in 1967 instead of recognizing the real source of our Salvation
...nor  to mere happenstance (Kerry in Hebrew)

nor...

...do we simply choose to ignore these open miracles like they were nothing worth noting...

Then... we truly deserve for Hashem to keep Kerry (happenstance) far away from us this Tisha Baav!!! Halvai...

(Anachnu maaminim uvnei maaminim.....Veyn lanu al mi Lehishayn...Ela al Avinu Shebashamayim.....We are believers, sons of believers and we have no one to lean upon except our Father in Heaven!!!)

Please Father in Heaven, keep Kerry out of the picture.... We depend on You Alone.......Thank you Hashem for your ongoing miracles and for watching over us.... Hinei Lo yanum velo Yishan Shomer Yisroel. The Guardian of Israel never slumbers or sleeps!
