Avi Abelow: Stop the immoral Rules of Engagement

Stop the Immoral Rules of Engagement

Bsd

Before Shabbat, a group of Israeli Jews who regularly hike around Judea & Samaria, families, kids, hikers of all ages, were attacked while hiking near Havat Gilad by a group of Arab jihadis from the neighboring village of Tell. The civilian in charge of security at Chavat Gilad heard about the incident and ran down to protect the Jewish hikers, trying desperately not to shoot. Instead used his rifle as a club to push the attackers back. The Muslim sheikh from the village grabbed the gun and shot, within seconds he murdered two Jews.

The videos are clear. Our people did everything humanly possible to avoid using lethal force. The second the jihadi Sheikh had the gun, he used it to kill.

And what was the immediate response from large parts of the Israeli left and their media allies? Warnings about “settler violence”. No sympathy for fellow Jews, under attack, killed. Just the same reflexive, dishonest, hateful script towards their fellow Jews in Judea and Samaria.

Israeli journalist Amit Segal, called out the lie in his reporting last night. The footage destroys the narrative. Jews restrained themselves. The jihadis did not.

This is the grim reality we face: a jihadi enemy that murders us, combined with an internal hatred that demonizes our own people and empowers our genocidal enemies — even after the tragic wake-up call of October 7.

The result of Friday’s attack is not an isolated tragedy. It is the direct outcome of a rotten legal policy that has been poisoning our security forces for years.

Our soldiers, officers, civilian security coordinators, and civilians are terrified to use their weapons. Not because they lack courage, they have proven that over and over, but because they know the legal system will come after them. The restrictive rules of engagement written by IDF legal advisors, and the post-Elor Azaria climate of fear, have turned self-defense into a potential career-ending crime, for soldiers and civilians. Anytime a Jew uses a gun to stop a terrorist, the legal system immediately confiscates his weapon and investigates him under the automatic assumption that he was in the wrong.

This is a disgrace that must end.

Remember Elor Azaria. He was an IDF soldier in Hebron who shot a terrorist who had already been stopped from murdering Israelis. He feared the terrorist on the ground was moving to detonate a suicide bomb, and shot himagain. For that he was court-martialed, convicted, and sent to prison for “manslaughter”. An IDF soldier making a split-second decision to save lives, was hounded and punished by the legal system and mainstream media for doing what he was trained to do. The message was received loud and clear: better a dead Jew than a soldier who risks the wrath of the Military Advocate General.

Listen to what our own fighters are saying right now from the ground:

A combat reservist describes a night pursuit deep inside a hostile jihadist village in Samaria. The suspect threw what looked like an explosive charge. The soldier fired two rounds and neutralized him on the spot. No commendation. Instead: investigation by the Military Police, and dismissal from his battalion. “They send us into battle and then dissect and judge every finger you moved from an air-conditioned office and punish you. This criminal conduct by the IDF simply freezes the fighters in the field from acting, and brings disasters like these upon us.”

Another fighter who recently served in the sector responsible for the village of Tell (from which the recent attack came) describes the same broken reality: entering the Tell village means rocks from rooftops, armed men, and a Palestinian Authority police station. To enter at all, the IDF company commander needs high-level approval, and even then is limited to stun grenades, as if dealing with disorderly demonstrators rather than a murderous population.

One incident: soldiers enter a house in Tell after being pelted with stones from the roof. The homeowner jumps a soldier. Another soldier strikes him and wounds him in the head. Minutes later the report comes down from above in the IDF: Stop. a soldier injured a ‘Palestinian Authority policeman’. That “policeman” had just attacked an IDF soldier.

Another: at a checkpoint, an IDF Civil Administration officer warns that in five minutes a convoy of 70 armed Palestinian policemen with 70 Kalashnikovs will pass under Israeli approval near Yitzhar. “Don’t photograph them.” A full company of PA forces moving freely near Israeli communities with the IDF’s permission.

And the only thing that makes the entire the army jittery? When Jews from Yitzhar go down to the road. Suddenly “settler violence” is the greatest threat.

This is the Oct. 6 conception still at its peak in IDF senior command: treating a jihadi population as a friendly civilian population that just happens to produce the occasional “individual” terrorist. It is the same conception that failed us in Gaza on October 7.

The army must change the rules of engagement. Immediately. The jihadi population in Judea & Samaria is exactly the same jihadi population in Gaza. Arab surveys post Oct. 7 highlight how the majority of the population in Judea & Samaria support the Oct. 7 massacre and mass rape.

The IDF must treat the enemy population as what it is, an enemy. The same ideology that produced Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the October 7 massacre is the dominant ideology among those who call themselves Palestinians and the Palestinian Authority armed police force. It is a 1,400-year-old jihadi worldview that still has Muslims around the world chanting “Khaybar, Khaybar ya Yahud”, celebrating Mohammad’s massacre of Jews back in the year 628 CE! There are individuals who reject terror. They exist. But the population as a whole is not “our partner.” It is a jihadi sea in which the terrorists swim.

Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Chairman Boaz Bismuth has already sent an urgent letter to the IDF Chief of Staff demanding a change in open-fire regulations: “It is unacceptable that a fighter fears the military prosecutor more than he fears the terrorist.”

MK Amit Halevi put it plainly: “the videos of yesterday’s murders tell the whole story. Reckless directives from senior IDF command and the Military Advocate General cause soldiers and officers to refrain from effectively defending our citizens. The military prosecution was created to protect IDF soldiers, not to abandon them to the enemy’s fire.”

“Defense Minister Israel Katz must instruct Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir to change the field guidelines at once: meaningful security zones around every soldier and civilian, fire to neutralize threats from distance, and proactive operations against both the civilian and military infrastructures of terror.”

Until this changes, more Jews will die. Not because our people lack bravery, but because the system has taught them that using their weapons to stay alive and keep others alive is more dangerous to their future than the terrorist in front of them.

The blood of Benaya Malat and his fellow victim is on the hands of those who created and maintain this fear.

Jewish life is not cheaper than the comfort of legal advisors or the political narratives of the left. The army’s job is to protect Jews, and to deter the enemy, not to manage the feelings of an enemy population that raises its children on the dream of our destruction.

Change the rules. Treat the enemy as the enemy. Or prepare for more funerals and more dishonest headlines blaming the victims.

Our soldiers who fought bravely in Gaza cannot understand how that same enemy is treated with kid gloves in Judea and Samaria. Talk about confusion. We should not need another October 7-style massacre in Judea and Samaria before IDF command adjusts to finally deal with the enemy properly.

With it all the nation of Israel knows the enemy and spirits are high to continue building and strengthening our God-given, indigenous, ancestral homeland. Our future is bright. We will overcome. And praying for a proud, sane IDF policy that finally recognizes the whole population of “palestinian” jihadis as the enemy.

Strengthen your faith. We will overcome.

Am Yisrael Chai!!!

Slanted reporting of Kan 11 and Times of Israel

7 Palestinians wounded in reprisal rampage by settlers
2 Israelis, 4 Palestinians killed in gunfight sparked by settler raid of Palestinian town

My comments:

"7 Palestinians wounded in reprisal rampage by settlers"

What a misleading lead into the headline!!!
7 Palestinians wounded???? How about mentioning Palestinian  terrorists were neutralized after they murdered an Israeli security officer and IDF Soldier who restrained themselves when they and a group of hikers were threatened.

"Reprisal rampage"
A blatant lie!!! Apparently Jews need to be like sheep, restrain themselves and then allow the Arabs to murder them with no deterrence

"Two Israelis and four Palestinians were killed on Friday after a Palestinian snatched a weapon from a group of settlers who had raided a northern West Bank village and opened fire, leading to fears of reprisal attacks throughout the territory."

"Israelis"? Actually an armed Security officer and IDF Soldier
"Killed"? Actually murdered in a terror attack when they, the Israeli Security officer and the IDF soldier restrained shooting at the threatening Arab mob.

Wow! An Israeli paper literally shooting Jews with their bias against Settlers!

Here is the more accurate reporting of what happened from Israel Breaking News.

"A Palestinian Arab terrorist seized a local security coordinator’s weapon and opened fire on Israeli hikers near Havat Gilad in Samaria on Friday morning, killing a 30-year-old man and wounding two others (one seriously and one moderately).
The attack occurred during a pre-coordinated hike from Har Bracha toward Havat Gilad and Kedumim, when Palestinian Arabs gathered around the hikers, leading to a confrontation in which the weapon was stolen and used. Security forces responded by neutralizing four terrorists and injuring three others, while pursuing remaining suspects, imposing a cordon on Nablus and the village of Tal, and evacuating the wounded by helicopter. Israeli officials, including Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, condemned the attack and called for a strong response to restore deterrence.'

Basically, an Israel Security Officer Beneyahu Melet 讛讬"讚 and an IDF soldier Yuval Ezra 讛讬"讚 were murdered by a Palestinian Sheikh Terrorist after he snatched the gun away from the security officer that restrained himself together with the IDF from shooting at the violent Arab mob threatening a group of Jewish Hikers. Unfortunately the IDF failed to effectively preempt to prevent this tragic attack.  These officers came to protect the group of Israeli hikers but instead were tragically murdered.

TOI slanted version:
"Essam Saifi, a local leader in the Palestinian Fatah party from Tell, told Reuters in a phone call that about 25 to 30 settlers initially attacked the eastern area of Tell and tried to break into two houses there."

I suppose when TOI chooses to believe the PA Fatah leader and Reuters over the Jewish narrative. Settlers are in big trouble.

These Jews were Hiking!!! Not attacking Tell! They were NOT raiding an Arab Village. These Jews Did NOT open fire because if they did the Shiekh would have died and not them because he would have been unable to snatch their gun away.  These are blatant Lies !!!!!

Here is Avi Abelow analysis on Pulse of Israel. Shame on TOI!

Elisha Yered: Distorted Reporting by News Channel Kan 11 to Slander the Settlers

My comments:

Slanted reporting of Kan 11 and Times of Israel

July 23, 2026 1:23pm
Tensions in Judea and Samaria: Palestinian family expelled from home by Jewish rioters. IDF: Working to allow them to return | @HGoldich reports

Here is a link to Golditch's article regarding a terror attack in Samaria and the fire a few hours later. Maybe he saw what Elisha Yered posted. But still you can see his slant.

July 23,2026 3:15pm
A day of terror in Samaria: Two stabbing attacks within a few hours

"Within hours - two attacks in Samaria: A soldier was stabbed at an IDF post and slightly injured, earlier a man was stabbed and seriously injured while trying to put out a fire that broke out on a farm. The Samaria Council claims that those who started the fire were Palestinians from a village in the area, but the cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined."

To be fair, Chaim Golditch, the Kan 11 journalist, to his credit did report the latest terror attack on Jewish Settlers near Itamar even though he totally ignored previous terror attacks near Aish Kodesh while seeing appropriate to write an article about an Arab family feeling harassed by Jewish Settlers.

He did note in this later article that while the Samaria Council claims that those who started the fire were Palestinians from a village in the area, Golditch was careful to note that the cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined. (Apparently, the Palestinian Authority’s official WAFA news agency alleged the fire that threatened the Jews was started by Israeli settlers from the area. Wafa is a "credible" source. Golditch's perspective of the Samaria Council is that it isn't "official" enough...

(Perhaps fires like what happened in Havat Gilad that destroyed 13,14 houses and industrial business and caused extensive damage to the Village and could have spread much further if it wasn't stopped, are started from a cigarette butt thrown accidentally on Shabbat by someone... My sarcastic comment).

From here we see how important it is to hold journalists accountable if they report Settler Violence out of context.

The same event reported in Times of Israel is also problematic.

One of the attackers identified as Palestinian Authority cop
2 Israelis hurt in separate stabbings in West Bank; 3 Palestinian attackers killed
To the credit of Times of Israel they did note that the attacker was a Palestinian Authority Cop. Yes, it is pretty worrisome that Israel allows hostile trained and armed Palestinian Authority police, potential terrorists, to provide "Security" under Israel's watch in Judea and Samaria.

However, the article concludes...
"...The same period has also seen a major surge in attacks by settler extremists on Palestinians and their property across the West Bank. The IDF recorded 867 incidents of nationalistic crime and settler violence in 2025. The total for 2024 was 682 incidents."

There is apparently pressure on News channels to be "fair" in their reporting...

Well then they should tell the other side, a surge in attacks on Jewish Settlers in 2026 and Jewish property by the Palestinians!

Regavim, Elisha Yered of Hilltop News and Elchonon Groner of haKol Hayehudi have exposed the Blood Libel of "Settler Violence".

Times of Israel and the IDF should be held accountable to report the context of the "Nationalistic crimes and Settler Violence". Regavim and the Hilltop Settlers tell the opposite story with high statistics of a tremendous surge of terror attacks in 2026, thefts and arsons against Settlers by Palestinians! Jews, the victims, with coordination with the IDF, have in fact defended themselves and their property. Yet the statistics of "Settler Violence" include these acts of self defense by Settlers and includes IDF involvement as "Settler Violence" when they are rather the victims of Arab violence or fighting or deterring it. Such Settlers have gotten arrested or have received outrageous draconian illegal administrative detention orders when they are actually defending themselves and their property. The Central
Command under Bluth and Police have enforced unjust Settler arrests and enforced draconian and apparently illegal detention orders with no heart. Settlers are denied basic civil rights often with no charges or any evidence of wrongdoing provided, based on the say so of the Jewish Division of Terror. Settler homes are demolished often by hired Arabs workers who are implementing orders by the Central command, and Jewish women and children are woken up in the middle of the night and thrown out of their homes seeing their homes demolished. Demolitions often happen before Shabbat or Chag.

There is selective prosecution of Police that is biased against Settlers in favor of Arabs. There is plenty of illegal Arab buildings that are not demolished.

That is the Truth of "Settler Violence" a false narrative, a blood libel to serve a political agenda to push the 2 State Solution Narrative.

Bottom line is that there is no real deterrence against the real villain, Arab Terror.

Elchonon Groner: The big question is why is Ravshatz afraid to shoot at the rioters who attacked him?*

Ravshatz is a Hebrew Acronym for the Current Local Military Security Coordinator. This is the person responsible for guarding and protecting the community during normal times and in emergencies, until the Israel Defense Forces or the police arrive on the scene.

The big question is why is Rabshatz afraid to shoot at the rioters who attacked him?*

The immediate answer that the security officials in Samaria are talking to me about in this incident is the commander of the Samaria Brigade, Ariel Gonen. Gonen, who left his post a few days ago, cannot wash his hands of it.

Recently, he dismissed the Yitzhar rabshatz on the grounds that he had shot at a similar incident right near the scene of today's attack when Arab rioters attacked Jews there. Anyone who knows the area knows that the Yitzhar rabshatz would have arrived first and handled the incident if he had not been dismissed.

In addition, a number of rabshatz from the mountain range and Gush Shiloh have received hearings and warning calls in the past two months from the brigade commander towards the end of his term. For some time now, civilian security personnel have been complaining to me about this terrible commander's spirit, and fighters are talking about briefings against settlers on the way to the line.

Today we paid in blood. Sorry Benyahu, we didn't shout enough. Forgive us, my dear brother.

*The heart is shattered into pieces. This morning on the outskirts of the village of Tel in Samaria, terrorists attacked a group of hikers.*

Bnayahu Malat of blessed memory, a member of Havat Gilad’s emergency response team, and Major Yuval Ezra of blessed memory jumped in to save them.

*During a difficult confrontation, a terrorist seized a weapon and opened deadly fire.*
*Bnayahu and Yuval were murdered, and two other members of the group were seriously wounded and are fighting for their lives.*

*This is a needless murder and an incident that should never have happened*.

*If they hadn’t been afraid to shoot, they would still be alive now. They were afraid to shoot because anyone who defends himself gets thrown in prison, and this is the result.*

From now on, anyone who is attacked should shoot immediately. A sick country that protects murderers and abandons our blood.

They didn’t have to die. They had weapons and could have shot and defended themselves, but *they were afraid of the filthy regime of the State of Israel that would throw them in prison, and now they are in the grave.*

Better to sit in prison than to lie in the grave. *Disobey an illegal order and protect yourselves!*

*May God avenge their blood, may their memory be a blessing.*

Tensions in Judea and Samaria: Palestinian family expelled from home by Jewish rioters. IDF: Working to allow them to return | @HGoldich reports

*"What a despicable report by Haim Golditch from the Corporation that illustrates the depths to which he has managed to sink within a few short months."*

On a day like this of Arab terrorism that struck throughout Judea and Samaria, Golditch chose to come to the evening edition with a thrilling story: a family from the murderers’ village of Jalud claims that settlers harassed them until they chose to leave their home.

*But the peak came later in the report.*
In order to supposedly illustrate how much the place is an arena of “settler violence,” Golditch noted that even today “clashes occurred there between settlers and Palestinians that included shooting.” At the end of the sentence, the Corporation’s correspondent noted that “no casualties were reported” in the incident.
*Well, there most definitely were casualties — Jews — in an event that was a lynching attack by Arabs on a Jewish shepherd. Very far from “clashes.”*

*Terrorists from the village of Jalud set a fire at the foot of the settlement of Aish Kodesh, which turned out to be a diversion. Simultaneously with the fire, terrorists sneaked around the mountain, seized a Jewish shepherd who was with his flock in the valley below the settlement, beat him with clubs, and fled.*

The shooting, by the way, was *not at all by “settlers,” but by security forces who arrived late to the scene after they had to clear roadblocks of stones that the Arabs of Jalud had placed in order to delay the arrival of the forces.*

The lynching of the shepherd was reported by me on Twitter and by several other journalists who are connected to the field in Judea and Samaria.
Golditch is apparently so disconnected and simply recycles the Shin Bet and the Arabs, to the point that he didn’t even hear about the incident and about the Jewish shepherd who was injured.
