Robin,
Americans across the nation continue to offer prayers and aid to the tens of thousands of people struck by the flooding from Hurricane Harvey along the Texas coast. The good news is that rain is finally out of the forecast in Houston. But both shelters and levees are overflowing, and everyone is watching anxiously to see if those levees will hold. We also offer our prayers for those who have lost their lives in the devastation. There are now 17 known fatalities. One of the latest is Houston Police Sergeant Steve Perez, a dedicated 30-year veteran who drowned when his patrol car was struck by high water when he drove under a flooded overpass in the dark. You must read this story to hear his wife's response to the tragic news. It will fill you with respect and admiration not only for the men and women of our police forces, but for their family members who have to spend every day not knowing if their loved ones will come home from work alive.
Sincerely,
Mike Huckabee

-- Judge dismisses Sarah Palin's lawsuit
By Mike Huckabee
A judge dismissed Sarah Palin's defamation lawsuit against the New York Times for suggesting that she was responsible for inspiring the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a claim that the Times' own reporting had long ago established was completely false. The judge ruled that while the paper was negligent, it didn't rise to the extraordinary standard required to prove defamation of a public figure.
To those disappointed by the ruling, note that this is more of an illustration of how high the standard is for proving defamation of a public figure than it is a vindication of the Times. In fact, the case provided a valuable public service by establishing on the record that the New York Times editorial board does no fact-checking and doesn't even research its own paper's reporting before spewing its opinions. Even beyond this case, that explains an awful lot.

FBI says public is not interested in Hillary case
By Mike Huckabee
The FBI has rejected multiple FOIA requests for information on Hillary Clinton's notorious unsecure email server, claiming that it falls under the category of things they don't have to release because of – brace yourself - a "lack of public interest." The attorney seeking the records told the Washington Times, "I'm just stunned. This is exactly what I would have expected had Mrs. Clinton won the election, but she didn't. It looks like the Obama administration is still running the FBI. How can a story receive national news coverage and not be a matter of public interest? If this is the new standard, then there's no such thing as a public interest exception."
If anyone at the FBI is reading this, I for one am keenly interested in this subject. I bet there are at least a hundred million or so more Americans who are also very interested. And equally interesting is that statement that the FBI under Trump is acting just as secretive, duplicitous and partisan as it was under Obama. This should serve as a wake-up call to President Trump that just cutting off the head didn't kill the snake. Sounds like a lot more chopping will be necessary to restore integrity to the agency.

Trump derangement syndrome continues
By Mike Huckabee
Trump Derangement Syndrome is a very real mental condition that leads even people in responsible positions to make complete jackasses of themselves in public. In its advanced stages, it causes sufferers to become immune even to the deep pull of national unity in the face of a catastrophe like Hurricane Harvey. Even as thousands of people sit in shelters, having lost all they own, and as Texas officials praise the Trump Administration for its unprecedentedly swift and efficient relief efforts, we see TDS-afflicted people who just can't stop attacking Trump and his family.
The Lilliputian onslaught ranges from blasting Trump for allegedly not showing enough empathy as he speaks of his efforts to help from the scene (they defended Obama when he showed his deep human empathy by continuing his golf vacation during deadly Louisiana flooding) or, in a moment that must be forever etched in the Petty Idiocy Hall of Fame, attacking Melania for wearing high heels when she got on Air Force One to fly to Texas. For the record, she had on sneakers when they landed. Yes, TDS is so debilitating to the brain, it actually makes you incapable of realizing that First Ladies can change their shoes on Air Force One.
The very idea that anyone would be trying to divide Americans and undermine confidence in leaders during a major humanitarian crisis for cheap political advantage is appalling. Or as the President would say: "Sad."

President Trump responds to North Korea
By Mike Huckabee
President Trump has issued his first statement on North Korea since Monday's missile launch. You can read it at the link, but bottom line: "All options are on the table." The White House also released a transcript of a phone call between Trump and Japan's Prime Minister (deliberately released, not leaked) to show that they agree that North Korea "poses a grave and growing direct threat" to their countries and South Korea, and they are "committed to increasing pressure on North Korea" and rallying for other countries to do the same.
Kim seems determined to leave Trump no option other than annihilating his country, a terrible situation that was inherited from years of bad presidential decisions about North Korea, starting with Bill Clinton's decision to allow them to build modern nuclear reactors for "peaceful, energy-generating purposes." Now, as Kim openly threatens the world like a toddler with a machine gun, we have a virtually identical deadly deal by Obama putting Iran on the same track. Whatever Trump ends up doing about North Korea, it should be accompanied by circumventing the same thing happening in Iran a few years down the road.
In the meantime, it's been reported that South Korea's special forces are in training to assassinate North Korea's leader. I have to imagine the same option must have occurred to some of some North Korea's military forces as well.

News Bits
For everyone who ever watched agog as a reporter stuck a microphone in the face of a victim of some horrific tragedy and asked "How do you feel?" this Houston woman answered that question to a CNN reporter in epic style.
-------------
Another Houston area man also had a snappy answer to a reporter's stupid question, but his response was inspiring rather than angry.
-------------
More empirical evidence that "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you" is one of the biggest lies in the world.
