Klinghoffer protest. Video and transcript of Former Mayor Rodolph Guliani - Distortion of History. Exposes Arafat and the Palestinian Authority as a corrupt terrorist organization

bs"d

Listen to Mayor Rudolph Guliani!

"The first amendment here operates to protect both parties.  The Metropolitan Opera  has a first Amendment right  to put on this Opera, if it wants to. People have a right to go see it, if they want to, if it's their choice. But, what seems to have been forgotten is equally, all of us, each one of us here, and many many  more, have just a strong first amendment right to make our position clear. We have a right to protest and warn people that this work is a distortion of history and helped in some ways to foster a three decade long feckless policy of creating a moral equivalency between the Palestinian Authority - a corrupt terrorist organization, and the State of Israel - a Democracy ruled by law. (applause)

For me this is a complicated issue.  I've been an opera fan 57 years......As an Opera the music and the chorus's are quite excellent. John Adams who wrote it is one of our great American composers. However, as a story, attempting to account an appalling terrorist murder of a man in a wheelchair who was thrown into the Mediterranean simply because he was Jewish, it's a factually inaccurate and extraordinarily damaging piece to an appropriate description of his problem. It did great damage to the relationship of Israel and Palestine AND it  supports terrorism. (applause)

.As one who had occasion as United States attorney to investigate Yassar Arafat, I can say with certainty, that this murder was a pure act of terror for which there were no justifiable brief, it was part of a overall campaign of numerous terrorist acts of which this was just one, intended to make Arafat and his organization, bigger players on the world stage, this was not done as the Opera suggests, for the purpose of helping the Palestinian people. This was done  for the purpose for furthering the goals of Yassar Arafat, the PLA, the terrorists and the crooks who are part of PLA. (applause) I speak here to warn people that this is a distorted work.  This murder was not because people were upset about their conditions in Palestine.  This murder was ORDERED!  This murder was ORGANIZED! This murder was PLANNED! It was not an act of people who are oppressed. This was the act of an organized group seeking international recognition by throwing a man in a wheelchair into the ocean and killing him.  This was done in order to get recognition, in order to create moral equivalency, and in order to obtain money - and shamefully in worked!

The terrorist killers who murdered Leon Klinghoffer were set free just a short while later and not brought to justice.  Arafat, got himself a place at the international bargaining table. He made fools of all of us, for years, by taking our money, but never agreeing to doing anything to bring peace to the Middle East.  The truth should be told that this Opera didn't create, but it certainly contributed to a romanticized version of the Palestinian cause and a romanticized version of terrorism (applause) which led the American Administration to give hundreds of millions of dollars to Palestine.  That money did not get to the Palestinian People.  THAT MONEY WAS STOLEN BY ARAFAT AND THE OTHER MEMBERS OF FATAH and if somebody would go take a good look in the South of France, they would find some of it in Mrs. Arafat's bank account.

So when people tell you that conditions in Palestine are terrible, and what Israel did to them,  It's what their leaders did to them. THEIR LEADERS STOLE THEIR MONEY IN THE  MILLIONS AND HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS  - AND THIS OPERA DOESN'T TELL THAT STORY! (applause)

The truth should be told that Arafat was offered everything he wanted by President Clinton and Prime Minister Ehud Barak, but he turned it all down. he turned down everything he was always seeking.  Why? because he preferred the con game he was playing.  He preferred the money he was getting, the money he was stealing, to the peace and security of his own people....It completely fails to tell the story of how this was a very well planned, a very well executed murder of advancing the purpose of the PLA.

....in the overall context of the work it doesn't do anything to  ameliorate the impression that there was sympathetic justification for the killing of Leon Klinghoffer and that's a sin to do so!  And it completely, completely, fails to tell the story that this was very well planned and very well executed murder for the purpose of advancing the PLA.

My position on this issue may differ from others. We recognize that people differ. The first Amendment. the marketplace of ideas. ...

The Met, and those who decide to go to see this production, have every right to do so and it would hypocritical and anti American for us to interfere with that and stop it.  But we also have a right just as strong and just as compelling  to point out the historical inaccuracy and the historical damage this contributed to. Hundreds of millions of dollars going to Arafat, some of which is still with Mrs. Arafat as I pointed out and most of which never to to the Palestinian people.

It also contributed to years and years of pursuing a plan for peace that was never realistic and it never worked -  because it was based on a false premise of moral equivalency and a romanticized version of terrorism - that has led to a world where terrorism has only become as we know - sitting here today years later,  - this romanticizing of terrorism has only made it a greater and greater threat and it has too often been justified as the expression of a legitimate political philosophy. (applause)....

Paul Eidelberg. Netanyahu is Not Qualified to be Israel's Prime Minister? but Lev Melech B'yad Hashem. Hashem won't leave it up to a mortal to make such decisions .

bs"d

I believe that if the generation was worthy, we would have Prime Ministers who would be speaking up for truth and against a 2 State Solution.  We need to be worthy as a nation, where masses of people, hundreds of thousands if not millions of Chareidim and Secular Jews claim our Land. http://shemittahrediscovered.blogspot.com/2014/10/proclaiming-truth-in-face-of-lies-first.html

Soccer Dad said re: Sharon and the Disengagement, Hitnatkut in 2005...
It's easy to criticize leaders. But remember one thing - at least with regard to the PM - Lev Melech B'yad Hashem (Mishlei 21:1). According to the Malbim, Hashem doesn't give Bechirah to leaders because a leader's effect on multitudes and history is so great that Hashem won't leave it up to a mortal to make such decisions. I believe that we have to look more at ourselves than at PM Sharon. To me the biggest question is: Why am I not in Israel. Perhaps if the Jewish people - i.e. those living outside of E"Y - appreciated E"Y properly by living there Hashem would have protected more of the land. Disengagement is a wake up call. PM Sharon is merely the pawn that Hashem used to make us sit up and think (and hopefully, act.).

My comments:
When all of Am Yisroel under the leadership of Rabbanim and Jewish Leadership will take a clear stand that the Land of Israel is our rightful claim and that we are not Occupiers and encourage Jews to go on Aliya since for 2000 years we finally have the opportunity,  than perhaps Netanyahu or whichever leader is in office will have the guts to speak the Truth.

Why Netanyahu is Not Qualified to be Israel's Prime Minister

November 11, 2010, republished August 28, 2011

Prof. Paul Eidelberg

In this report I am going to provide sufficient evidence to prove that Benjamin Netanyahu is not qualified to be the Prime Minister of Israel…. [It's] irrelevant to say that any of his most likely successors are even less qualified ….

When he was a cabinet minister in the Sharon Government, he voted for the expulsion of 8,000 Jews from their homes in Gaza. Gaza, now called Hamastan, is a proxy of Iran. Armed by increasingly deadly weapons from Iran, Hamastan constitutes a strategic threat to Israel from the south.  Meanwhile, Hezbollah, another Iranian and well-armed proxy, threatens Israel from the north. This perilous state of affairs, for which Netanyahu is to no small extent responsible, should have prompted Israelis to relegate him to the political wilderness in the February 2009 national elections. Instead, by voting for the Likud Party, they [less than a third of the electorate] made him Israel's Prime Minister.

Four months later, on June 14, at Bar-Ilan University, Netanyahu endorsed the establishment of a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria …. From what source did Netanyahu derive the authority to make [t]his decision … It's quite clear that the decision was made without public or Knesset debate….

While Netanyahu was a member of Sharon's ethnic cleansing Government, he gave a speech at the prestigious Herzliya Conference. He there declared that "the Declaration of Independence" depicts Israel as both Jewish and democratic."  Let us examine this statement.

First of all, the word "democracy" does not appear in the Declaration of Independence….  Second, to say that the Declaration "depicts Israel as both Jewish and democratic" is grossly misleading.

Not only does the Declaration proclaim Israel as a Jewish state, but that alone is Israel's raison d'etre. It is simply false to put "Jewish" and "democratic" on the same level. To put it more clearly: The only justification for Israel's re-establishment in 1948 is the Biblical heritage of the Jewish people; and it is an unmitigated falsehood to describe that heritage, and therefore the Sinai Covenant, as a charter for democracy. In fact, the Declaration tacitly rejects that Covenant.

The Declaration proclaims that the State "will ensure complete equality of … political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion …"

But there is much more than Netanyahu's poverty-stricken commitment to a Jewish commonwealth—although it is the root cause of his caving into American pressure on the Palestinian state issue.   Here I will cite at length, with interspersed italicized comments of my own, [Caroline] Glick's article in The Jerusalem Post [of November 19, 2010]. She writes:  "Netanyahu boasts that that he received three major payoffs from Obama in exchange for his agreement to ban Jewish construction [in Judea and Samaria] and discuss land surrenders with [the Palestinian Authority, a consortium of terrorists] is enough to disqualify Netanyahu as PM.

As for the three payoffs: "First, he claims that Obama agreed not to renew his demand that Jews be denied their property rights. Second, he says the administration agreed to send Israel 20 more F-35s…. Glick counters as follows: "The first payoff is nothing more than the foreign policy equivalent of buying the same dead horse twice. Obama led Netanyahu to believe he has set aside his demand that Jews be denied property rights last November, when Netanyahu announced the first construction freeze [in Judea and Samaria]. Yet Obama repeated his demands even before the last freeze ended. Obama has no credibility on this issue…."

Glick continues: "The F35 deal is simply bizarre. Israel needs the F-35 to defend against enemies like Iran. Yet the administration claims that its agreement to send Israel the F-35s is contingent on Israel signing a peace deal with the Palestinians. In other words, the Obama administration is giving the PLO power to veto American military assistance by saying no to peace."

"Finally, there is the administration's pledge to support Israel at the UN for a year.  What this pledge actually means is that a year from now, the Obama administration will present the deal as an excuse to abandon what has been the policy of every US administration since Lyndon Johnson and stop blocking Anti-Israel resolutions at the UN Security Council."

This, according to Glick, is what Netanyahu fears most, because it would readily lead to a UN-endorsed Palestinian state in all of Judea and Samaria and in large parts of Jerusalem, and with the Palestinians still refusing to sign a peace treaty with Israel.

But Netanyahu has already agreed to a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria, which would include East Jerusalem and the Temple Mount; and any peace treaty following that betrayal of Israel and the Jewish people would not be worth the paper it's written on.

Glick wants Israel—but that means Netanyahu—to go on the offensive.  She wants (1) Israel to pass a law that permits the filing of universal jurisdiction claims in Israel against citizens of states that allow Israelis to be sued.  She wants (2) Israel to support people abroad who want to discredit the UN, especially the International Criminal Court. She wants (3) Israel to pursue deeper economic and political ties with India, China, and Japan.

The present writer has long advocated actions (2) and (3), but with the understanding that Israel would have to be led by a very different kind of Government to implement such actions. Nothing hinders Israel's government more than its fear of jeopardizing its democratic reputation, which alone endows this country with legitimacy and its ruling elites with respectability.  But isn't it obvious that Israel's democratic reputation, whether deserved or not, is now worthless and even counter-productive if only because it induces Israeli government to exercise suicidal self-restraint in dealing with Arab terrorists?

Ms. Glick's excellent article is entitled "Facing our fears." With all due respect, she has not identified what Israel must do to liberate itself from these fears. That done, her readers will at last understand  why Benjamin Netanyahu is not qualified to be Israel's Prime Minister.◙

Protest at Dante Park on Monday, October 20 in connection with The Met Opera's Opening Night Performance of the "Death of Klinghoffer"

Protest at Dante Park on
Monday, October 20 in connection with
The Met Opera's Opening Night Performance of The Death of Klinghoffer
___________________________________________________
We have been informed by the New York City Police Department that there will be a protest on Monday, October 20, 2014, between the hours of 4:00pm and 8:00pm in and around Dante Park (across from Lincoln Center between 63rd and 64th Street), in connection with The Metropolitan Opera's Opening Night Performance of The Death of Klinghoffer. It is our understanding that the NYPD expects 3,000-4,000 people to attend, with protesters gathering at approximately 2:00pm. The parking lane alongside Dante Park on Columbus Avenue between 63rd and 64th Street will be cordoned off with police barricades, which may be moved further west to close traffic lanes if necessary. It is also our understanding that there will be a platform set up in the parking lane near West 63rd Street.

The majority of the demonstrators will be in Dante Park; however, there will be approximately 40-50 additional demonstrators in front of Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza.  Expect to see "No Parking" signs around the perimeter of Dante Park on Monday, October 20 and, depending on the turnout, there may be temporary lane/crosswalk closures in and around the Dante Park area.  The NYPD will maintain a presence throughout the event.  We will also have our public safety officers present.

Businesses, other organizations, and pedestrians in the area may be impacted by the protest. For more information, you may call the Lincoln Square BID office at 212.581.3774 or 311.

Dear friends,

I am writing to let you know that Frimet wrote an op ed that is published in the Times of Israel right now. It is currently featured on the home page as one of the Top Ops, and is entitled "Ten lessons the Shalit deal taught us". Its appearance coincides (almost) with the third anniversary of the catastrophic transaction which directly cost so many innocent Israeli lives, and threatens to keep doing so.

Times of Israel's articles tend to get cycled off the home page quickly because so many of them are published each day. But if an article gets significant traffic (meaning readers) it stays around longer. That means it gets seen by more people.

And if it's considered powerful enough and well written enough, it becomes a Top Op. And this one has.

Please help this article get seen and understood, by pointing your friends and contacts to it. It's short and to the point. The link is

RUDY GIULIANI TO LEAD PROTEST AGAINST KLINGHOFFER OPERA

bs"d

Rudy Giuliani Will Lead Protest Against 'The Death of Klinghoffer'

By | 10/17/14 5:20pm
Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani will lead another large protest Monday against the "The Death of Klinghoffer," a controversial opera, a source confirmed to the Observer.
Mr. Giuliani will be yet another politician, including ex-Gov. George Pataki, a fellow Republican who joined last week's protest, and Democratic Congressman Eliot Engel, spearheading a protest against the two decades-old opera, set to debut at the Metropolitan Opera on Monday. Former Gov. David Paterson, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and Congressman Peter King will join this rally.

Critics say the opera, which tells the real-life story of a Jewish man in a wheelchair who was murdered by Palestinian terrorists after they hijacked a cruise ship, is anti-Semitic and anti-Israel. Some have defended the opera, composed by John Adams, as a masterpiece, however, while others, including Observer opera critic James Jorden, have defended the Met's right to perform the opera on freedom of expression grounds.

Mr. Giuliani is a longtime opera devotee, having even started an opera club at Brooklyn's Bishop Loughlin High School. A charter member was Peter Powers, who later became Mr. Giuliani's campaign manager and first deputy mayor.

Mr. Giuliani claimed he investigated the murder when he was U.S. attorney in 1985, though ex-Village Voice journalist–and Giuliani antagonist–Wayne Barrett disputed the claim in a 2007 story.

"As United States Attorney, I investigated the Leon Klinghoffer murder by Yasir Arafat," Mr. Giuliani said, according to the Village Voice. "I knew, in detail, the Americans he murdered. I went over their cases."

"This show makes a mockery of the murder of a disabled New Yorker," said Ronn Torossian, a spokesman for organizers. "There is nothing acceptable about Lincoln Center glorifying terrorism. The title gives away the show's agenda: Klinghoffer didn't "die" – He was murdered by terrorists."
