Robin,

Americans across the nation continue to offer prayers and aid to the tens of thousands of people struck by the flooding from Hurricane Harvey along the Texas coast. The good news is that rain is finally out of the forecast in Houston. But both shelters and levees are overflowing, and everyone is watching anxiously to see if those levees will hold. We also offer our prayers for those who have lost their lives in the devastation. There are now 17 known fatalities. One of the latest is Houston Police Sergeant Steve Perez, a dedicated 30-year veteran who drowned when his patrol car was struck by high water when he drove under a flooded overpass in the dark. You must read this story to hear his wife's response to the tragic news. It will fill you with respect and admiration not only for the men and women of our police forces, but for their family members who have to spend every day not knowing if their loved ones will come home from work alive.

Judge dismisses Sarah Palin's lawsuit

By Mike Huckabee

A judge dismissed Sarah Palin's defamation lawsuit against the New York Times for suggesting that she was responsible for inspiring the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a claim that the Times' own reporting had long ago established was completely false. The judge ruled that while the paper was negligent, it didn't rise to the extraordinary standard required to prove defamation of a public figure.

To those disappointed by the ruling, note that this is more of an illustration of how high the standard is for proving defamation of a public figure than it is a vindication of the Times. In fact, the case provided a valuable public service by establishing on the record that the New York Times editorial board does no fact-checking and doesn't even research its own paper's reporting before spewing its opinions. Even beyond this case, that explains an awful lot.

FBI says public is not interested in Hillary case

By Mike Huckabee

The FBI has rejected multiple FOIA requests for information on Hillary Clinton's notorious unsecure email server, claiming that it falls under the category of things they don't have to release because of – brace yourself - a "lack of public interest." The attorney seeking the records told the Washington Times, "I'm just stunned. This is exactly what I would have expected had Mrs. Clinton won the election, but she didn't. It looks like the Obama administration is still running the FBI. How can a story receive national news coverage and not be a matter of public interest? If this is the new standard, then there's no such thing as a public interest exception."

If anyone at the FBI is reading this, I for one am keenly interested in this subject. I bet there are at least a hundred million or so more Americans who are also very interested. And equally interesting is that statement that the FBI under Trump is acting just as secretive, duplicitous and partisan as it was under Obama. This should serve as a wake-up call to President Trump that just cutting off the head didn't kill the snake. Sounds like a lot more chopping will be necessary to restore integrity to the agency.

Trump derangement syndrome continues

By Mike Huckabee

Trump Derangement Syndrome is a very real mental condition that leads even people in responsible positions to make complete jackasses of themselves in public. In its advanced stages, it causes sufferers to become immune even to the deep pull of national unity in the face of a catastrophe like Hurricane Harvey. Even as thousands of people sit in shelters, having lost all they own, and as Texas officials praise the Trump Administration for its unprecedentedly swift and efficient relief efforts, we see TDS-afflicted people who just can't stop attacking Trump and his family.

The Lilliputian onslaught ranges from blasting Trump for allegedly not showing enough empathy as he speaks of his efforts to help from the scene (they defended Obama when he showed his deep human empathy by continuing his golf vacation during deadly Louisiana flooding) or, in a moment that must be forever etched in the Petty Idiocy Hall of Fame, attacking Melania for wearing high heels when she got on Air Force One to fly to Texas. For the record, she had on sneakers when they landed. Yes, TDS is so debilitating to the brain, it actually makes you incapable of realizing that First Ladies can change their shoes on Air Force One.

The very idea that anyone would be trying to divide Americans and undermine confidence in leaders during a major humanitarian crisis for cheap political advantage is appalling. Or as the President would say: "Sad."

President Trump responds to North Korea

By Mike Huckabee

President Trump has issued his first statement on North Korea since Monday's missile launch. You can read it at the link, but bottom line: "All options are on the table." The White House also released a transcript of a phone call between Trump and Japan's Prime Minister (deliberately released, not leaked) to show that they agree that North Korea "poses a grave and growing direct threat" to their countries and South Korea, and they are "committed to increasing pressure on North Korea" and rallying for other countries to do the same.

Kim seems determined to leave Trump no option other than annihilating his country, a terrible situation that was inherited from years of bad presidential decisions about North Korea, starting with Bill Clinton's decision to allow them to build modern nuclear reactors for "peaceful, energy-generating purposes." Now, as Kim openly threatens the world like a toddler with a machine gun, we have a virtually identical deadly deal by Obama putting Iran on the same track. Whatever Trump ends up doing about North Korea, it should be accompanied by circumventing the same thing happening in Iran a few years down the road.

In the meantime, it's been reported that South Korea's special forces are in training to assassinate North Korea's leader. I have to imagine the same option must have occurred to some of some North Korea's military forces as well.

NEW YORK, August 29, 2017

The Israelis whose lives are at stake and the authentic U.S. pro-Israel community have long understood that a Palestinian Arab state would be a Hamas-Fatah-ISIS-Iranian regime terrorist state that endangers Israel's heartland.

Such a state would be a launching pad for non-stop attacks on innocent Israeli civilians. Indeed, the Maagar-Mochot poll in January found that Israelis overwhelmingly (by a 10 to 1 margin) support Israeli sovereignty in Judea/Samaria and oppose a Palestinian Arab state. (Judea/Samaria is the accurate name for the area Jordan renamed the "West Bank.")

Similarly, a Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs poll in March found that Israelis are overwhelmingly (by a 12 to 1 margin) concerned that if Israel gave up security control of Judea/Samaria, that the Palestinian Arabs will build attack tunnels. And the implications go far beyond Israel. A Palestinian Arab terror state is likely to push Jordan and the entire Middle East into complete chaos. (Also remember, there was never an Arab sovereign State in Judea and Samaria. Even the name "Palestine" is a Roman name, not an Arab name. Arabs can't even pronounce the letter "P." When the Romans captured Judea and Samaria and murdered or drove the Jews out of their ancient homeland they renamed it Palestine after the enemy of the Jews, the Philistines.)

Thus, earlier this year, we were thrilled that President Trump refused to parrot the irrational, dangerous mantra that a Palestinian state is the only option for peace (the so-called two State solution, a misnomer since Israel is already a State). We were glad to see President Trump wisely speak instead about real peace and creative solutions; and demand that the Palestinian Authority (PA) must stop teaching "tremendous hate" to their children in PA schools; stop naming Arab schools, streets, sports teams, and tournaments after Jew-killers; recognize Israel as the Jewish State; stop paying Palestinian Arab terrorists to murder Jews; and revoke the PA law authorizing the PA's horrendous $350 million per year of "pay to slay" payments.

The PA repeatedly broke its Oslo and other agreements to combat and stop inciting terror, collect illegal weapons, outlaw terrorist groups, and preserve and provide Jews access to Jewish holy sites in PA territory. An entity that continues to demonstrate that it does not keep any of its past agreements when they didn't have everything it wanted obviously cannot be trusted to keep a future agreement after it has received major concessions.

However, we are concerned now. In May, the PA leadership rejected President Trump's praise-worthy demands that the PA must end its "pay to slay" payments. Instead, the PA vowed that these payments will continue. Any effort to negotiate anything else with the PA should have ended there. It is unconscionable to negotiate with Arab Nazis who pay people to murder Jews. And yet, Trump administration negotiators are reportedly now attempting to negotiate a "peace deal."

Such negotiations are also futile. Irreconcilable, diametrically opposed differences between Israel and the PA have long made it clear that the creation of a peaceful Palestinian-Arab state is impossible.

For example, the PA demands at least all of eastern Jerusalem – while Israel requires all of Jerusalem remain united under Israeli sovereignty.

The PA demands that every Jew must be forcibly ejected from their future State, meaning the almost 800,000 Jews in eastern Jerusalem/Judea/Samaria. That cannot and will not ever happen.

Every time Jewish communities have been evicted in the name of "peace," Israel got more Arab terror and rockets instead.

The PA also insists that millions of descendants of self-created so-called Palestinian "refugees" be allowed to move to Israel. Every Israeli government, from left to right, outright rejects this, because it means overwhelming Israel with a hostile population and the end of Israel as a Jewish state.

The PA also demands a "contiguous" state that connects Gaza to Judea/Samaria, thereby cutting Israel into two separate pieces. Israel obviously cannot agree to this demand either, if Israel wishes to remain in existence.

The PA refuses to agree to Israel's basic demand for recognition as the Jewish State.

And to top off all this, the PA refuses to sign a peace deal that "ends all claims" against Israel. Israel understandably cannot agree to a deal that permits new or continued anti-Israel claims.

Another irreconcilable PA demand is that Israel must free all Palestinian-Arab terrorists in Israeli jails. Israel would be insane to release thousands of unrepentant convicted Arab murderers and attempted murderers.

Also with respect to security, Israel, at a minimum, must maintain control over the major Jewish communities in Judea/Samaria, and, as Netanyahu said during his joint press conference with President Trump in February, Israel needs "overriding security control over the entire area west of the Jordan River" because "otherwise we'll get another radical Islamic terrorist state in the Palestinian areas exploding the peace, exploding the Middle East." But, the PA says it will never accept this.

Similarly, as Prime Minister Netanyahu explained during his 2009 speech at Bar Ilan University, any Palestinian-Arab state needs to be "demilitarized" – meaning that it cannot have an army; control its airspace; forge military pacts with the likes of Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran and import weapons; and must be subject to strong measures to prevent weapons smuggling. The PA opposes every one of these Israeli security requirements.

Moreover, even if the PA lied and falsely agreed to demilitarization in order to obtain a state, the PA would never keep this agreement.

The PA's refusal to abide by its written agreements is an insurmountable roadlock. Especially since a Palestinian State deal would ask Israel to give up irreversible tangibles (i.e., land) for intangible peace promises. Israel needs partners that keep their promises – and the PA doesn't qualify.

Finally, the PA's unrelenting goal is not a Palestinian State but to destroy and replace all of Israel with a Palestinian-Arab state that no Jew can step foot in. This goal is clearly laid out in the PA ruling party Fatah Charter and in PA President Abbas' speeches condemning the Israeli "occupation" since 1948 – and in the PA maps, stationery, official emblems, stamps, media and atlases showing all of Israel as Palestine. The PA leadership assures its people that any concessions it obtains are "stages" towards their final goal of destroying the Jewish State. Additionally, the PA is politically aligned with Hamas whose Charter calls for Israel's destruction and the murder of every Jew!

Israel cannot agree to commit suicide – or give the PA a stronger base for advancing the Palestinian-Arab "struggle" for Israel's total annihilation.

Moreover, the Palestinian Arabs don't want a state if it means accepting Israel. They were offered a state in 1937 (Peel Commission), in 1948 (UN Res. 181), in 2000 by Israeli PM Ehud Barak, in 2008 by PM Ehud Olmert – none of which they accepted because it meant accepting the Jewish State and ending all further claims. And when the Arabs controlled all of the land they now claim for a state in Judea/Samaria, Gaza, and eastern Jerusalem from 1948-1967, they never established a State there nor even mentioned their desire for a State there.

In short, virtually every component of a "Palestinian Arab State solution" is bedeviled with impossible-to-bridge conflicting demands and requirements – not to mention that the PA's destructive goals which are irreconcilable with Israel's continued existence in any way, shape or form. Creating a truly peaceful Palestinian Arab State living in peace with the Jewish State is thus an impossible-to-achieve deal. It would only strengthen the ability of the Palestinians to promote their terrorist goals of murdering Jews and destroying the Jewish State.

Robin,

From the "About Darn Time" File: An Evangelical Christian ministry is suing the Southern Poverty Law Center for defamation for falsely labeling it as a "hate group." The SPLC has identified a number of actual hate groups, but in recent years, they have followed the "progressive" left down the anti-free speech rabbit hole by branding as "hate groups" faith-based organizations whose views on trendy leftist causes such as same-sex marriage don't hew exactly to theirs. At the very least, it damages their reputations and harms donations. At worst, it inspired a mentally unstable man to go into the offices of the Family Research Council and try to launch a mass shooting.

The SPLC not only needs to stop branding differences of religious opinion as hate crimes, but it should also consider that under its own definition, which involves demonizing entire classes of people, you could make a case that the SPLC itself is a "hate group."

Sincerely,

Mike Huckabee

California attacks free press

By Mike Huckabee

Well, for a while, it looked as if justice would prevail in California, with most of the charges against the undercover reporters who exposed Planned Parenthood being dismissed by the judge. But the Attorney General, who seems to think that job involves being Planned Parenthood's hit man in exchange for campaign donations, refiled the charges, and the judge refused to dismiss them – even though, as their attorneys pointed out, this is clearly in violation of state law that mandates deadlines for refiling charges. They expressed confidence that their clients would prevail in court, but I wonder if it will take appealing until they are out of California to do that. This is so clearly a vindictive attack on freedom of the press and standard undercover reporting practices that even some liberal media outlets that openly support Planned Parenthood have condemned it as prosecutorial overreach.

From the Antifa protesters bashing people in the head before they can express ideas they disagree with to Planned Parenthood trying to jail reporters for exposing what they do behind closed doors, you can always spot a movement that's morally and intellectually bankrupt by how frantic it is to prevent the public from hearing its opponents' arguments.

Coming soon

By Mike Huckabee

Here we go again: conservative pot-stirrers Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter have accepted an invitation from the Patriot, UC-Berkeley's conservative student newspaper (yes, there actually is one of those), to speak on campus in September. Both had previous appearances canceled when black-clad crusaders for shutting down speech they disagree with rioted, attacked people, smashed windows and set fires, as the police mysteriously stood by watching. The UC-Berkely Administration claims that it is its responsibility "to provide safety and security for its community and guests, and we will invest the necessary resources to achieve that goal," and while they defend the right to protest peacefully, "we will not tolerate violence." Well, that's a refreshing change of policy. One might argue that it has always been their responsibility, but let's see if they take it seriously this time,

Incidentally, the speeches will be part of "Free Speech Week," a celebration of the "Free Speech Movement" that was born at Berekley in 1964 and died there in 2017.

Antifa and Nazis have a lot in common

By Mike Huckabee

For all those in politics and the media who insist on keeping up the ludicrous narrative that all the violence in America comes from the right and the leftist, Antifa crowd are just a group of righteous young Nazi-fighters comparable to the heroic troops who liberated Europe in World War II: gaze upon these multiple photos and videos of the mob violence they inflicted at UC-Berkeley on peaceful citizens who were just trying to exercise their First Amendment right to hold a prayer rally for the President. If this was like D-Day, then the "D" must stand for "deranged" or "despicable."

When Trump said the violence came from "many sides," this was what he meant. But technically, he was wrong. The violence isn't coming from "many sides," but from two sides: far-right and far-left. Condemning this kind of lawless, mindless violence from the far-left does not mean you condone neo-Nazis or white supremacists. It just means that you have the basic amount of intelligence required to recognize despicable, un-American thugs when you see them, no matter whether they are dressed in white sheets or black hoodies. And maybe now that the left side is assaulting journalists, too, some of them will finally have the blinders knocked from their eyes.

Obama immigration record under microscope

By Mike Huckabee

A report by the Center for Immigration Studies reveals that among the federal government's 800,000 or so backlog illegal immigration cases that piled up during the Obama Administration, as many as 200,000 were "administratively closed" without action. That means they didn't get bogged down or lost in the system, the government just let them go without doing anything to enforce the law, leaving tens of thousands of illegal immigrants free to wander across America.

This is yet another of many examples of how an alleged "Trump crackdown" or policy change that sparks outrage and protest, such as increased border security or barring transgender military recruits, really isn't much of a change at all. They're mostly just examples of the government once again enforcing laws and policies that have been on the books for decades, but for some reason, from 2008 to 2016, were simply ignored.
