Defending the State

bs"d

To the Editor:

Sohrab Ahmari shows a moment of understanding in his essay "What Does IT Mean to Be 'Pro Israel?' [May] when he writes, "the trouble with such feel-good hasbara is that it betrays an inner insecurity of defensiveness about Israel rather than confidence."

The problem didn't start with J-Street, Obama, or the State Department, or with the UN or the EU.  It didn't start with Sharon, or Rabin, or Amir, or Begin.  And it didn't start with the UN Partition Plan or the San Remo Conference or the Balfour Declaration.

It started and continues in the heart of the Jewish nation.  It started in Numbers, with the Jews' rejection of the land of Israel, and it continues in the Jews' rejection of the Land being given to us by the Creator of heaven and earth, the definer of good and evil, the arbiter of right and wrong.

The whole problem would fade into nothingness if we were to reach a consensus that this land is ours by dint of our Creator's giving it to us. Not the UN, not the Holocaust, not military right, no historical connections, but simply because He gave it to us.  With this conviction in our hearts, all the "inner insecurity or defensiveness' will disappear and we won't even hear the meaningless voices of our detractors.

A Plea From The Agudah (as seen in AMI Magazine Issue 231 August 19, 2015)

In the Matter of the Iranian Nuclear Deal

The following letter was issued this past week by Agudath Israel of America

[I saw this letter to the Editor in Ami Magazine but did not see any link to it. Apparently it wasn't publicized.  So I have taken the liberty of posting it on my blog so others will know about it. Robin]

Dear Friends of Agudath Israel of America:

As many experts and elected officials have pointed out, the deal recently concluded with Iran regarding the Iranian nuclear program raises serious concerns for the United States and its allies, especially Israel.  Indeed, the full spectrum of Israeli political opinion has come out strongly against the proposed deal, calling it an "existential threat" to the people of Israel.

Under the direction of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah, Agudath Israel of America's staff and lay leadership have reached out to members of Congress over the last few weeks to urge them to vote against the proposed deal. High level face-to-face meetings have been, and are being arranged with key members of the Senate and the House, both in Washington and in local districts.

With Congress currently in recess, and with its vote on the Iranian nuclear deal set to take place soon after its return to Washington in September, now is the time for you, our constituents, to make your voices heard. Over the next few weeks, while Congress is home for summer break, we urge you to respectfully call upon your elected representatives to disapprove the current deal and push for a stronger deal that will better protect the United States and its allies, especially Israel.  If your member of Congress has already publicly spoken out against the deal, please take a moment to thank him or her.

For sample letters and contact information for your elected officials,as well as suggested talking points if you wish to go into greater detail in your written or oral communication with your senator or representative, please contact our office.

Many thanks for your participation to this critical effort. May we hear only Besoros Tovos and always merit the protective embrace of Avinu Shebashamayim.

Sincerely,

Chaim Dovid Zwiebel

Fwd: Pidyon Shvuyim! Appeal to the Prime Minister Netanyahu to Release 16 Young Jews With No Charges Filed.

bs"d

Wow, I didn't realize that there were 16 Young Jews in Administrative detention or under house arrest or administrative orders that limit them in some way.

There is a Mitzvah of Pidyon Shvuyim.

One should not be Motzei Shem Ra, spread false reports, on these kids nor accept any Lashon Hara  before they have been verified and found guilty in a court of law.  Even if these detainees do admit guilt, there is a likelihood that their confession was coerced under administrative detention.

As far as I know there is no evidence of prior convictions for any of these young Jews.  We shouldn't assume that they are guilty even if they are placed under house arrest or under administrative detention.

Don't you think with all of Israel's intelligence they would have come up with some conclusive evidence?

The whole "Price Tag"  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_tag_policy  policy seems to be untrue, unfounded and slanderous to the settlement community and the hilltop youth.  These "price tag" attacks have probably been staged by Arabs or even Jews, in order to frame, discredit the Settlers and the hilltop youth community.

Why?

This works for Arabs because it gives Arabs an excuse to engage in acts of terror against Jews . Pretty sad.

But why would Jews want to spread false reports?

David Bedein points out that Moshe Yaalon, in his position as IDF Commander, oversaw similar mental training of IDF, vicious psychological warfare, to brainwash the IDF soldiers, prior to home demolitions and expulsions from Gush Katif which then helped them to carry out their mission. Surely, pressures from the Obama Administration, EU, United Nations aren't helping...

Hard to say which is sadder.

Note that in contrast, over 170 Jewish children, many in Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem, have been killed by Arab terror attacks.

Unfortunately both Jews and Non Jews, MK's and even Yesha leaders, Jewish and non Jewish media,  have been spreading the false narrative of "Jewish Terrorists" and their "Price Tag revenge". When I was in the Best Western in Rockville Md, the USA Today newspaper distributed for free, to the hotel guests  got this read on page 7a.

Israel's enemy within: Young militant settlers by Shira Rubin
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2015/08/22/israels-enemy-within-young-militant-settlers/31704665/

For Settlers the best revenge against atrocities as the destruction of their homes, is to build and rebuild.... These are Israel's enemies? Only if you spread false rumors...

From David Bedein

Credible journalists now show that there is every reason to believe that the arson which occurred in Duma on July 31 was the result of internal Arab fights.

Appeal to the Prime Minister to release 16 young Jews now being held for six months in prison under administrative detention, with no charges filed, no lawyer to represent them, and no court case.

These young men are subject to daily mental and physical abuse, and have no legal recourse to fight back

Ask the Prime Minister, who is in charge of the GSS, to try them in court if he has evidence of wrong doing, or to release them.

Bibi pays attention to feedback.
PLEASE REMEMBER:    Moshe Yaalon, in his position as IDF Commander in Chief, oversaw the  mental training of the IDF to conduct vicious psychological warfare against the Jews of Gush Katif before he resigned his position in June, 2005:
