My Personal Account of Ateret Cohanim Dinner also Kitty Werthmann sobering History lesson - Gradualism - Nazism It took 5 years to realize full dictatorship in Austria. State eroded freedoms

bs"d

Dear Friends and Family, amv"sh

I just came back from the Ateret Cohanim Dinner.  Former United States Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton spoke very sobering words. He said that we are running out of options in Iran.  Sanctions might have worked at one point but that time is over.  Even if they come up with a 4th set of sanctions in the UN (and they very likely will) it won't make much of a difference at this point just like the other 3 votes of sanctions didn't accomplish much.  Bolton's preferred method of dealing with this crisis would be a regime change in Iran.  However, he said that this possibility had been most favorable at the time of the elections when the population clearly showed their discontent with the regime.  At this point however, it's not too likely and the opposition is weaker and this option needs time for nurturing which we don't have.

He said that it is highly unlikely that the Obama administration will choose a military option.  The Obama administration is resigned to a Nuclear Iran. Bolton had thought that Bush perhaps would consider a military option since Bush had said that a nuclear Iran is unacceptable and Bolton assumed that Bush meant what he said.  Oh well.   All these years of negotiations with Iran lying to the Commission that oversees them  has bought Iran time to develop it's nuclear capability to the point it is today which is very close of being a nuclear power.  Our intelligence in Iran in less then perfect so we aren't positive about how close to this point in time we are. A month, a year....  But we can not wait till we are certain since then it might be too late.  He said that if Iran becomes nuclear then all the other Arab countries like Egypt, Saudi Arabi, Jordan etc will follow suit.  He mentioned that North Korea  collaborates with Iran on nuclear arms development and has no problems with selling their knowledge and technology to terrorist regimes.  The nuclear plant in Syria which was attacked by Israel on the Euphrates River was built with the help of North Korea and very likely with funding from Iran.

That leaves Israel to once again deal with this threat.  He said that Israel has legitimate reasons based on self defense to execute the military option.  This he feels would also  benefit  National Security of the US as well as the National Security of the surrounding Arab countries who privately would welcome an Israeli strike but not publicly.  They too do not want a nuclear Iran.  If Israel would choose this route, they would need to know that they have the support of America and  will be able to replenish their weaponry, and aircraft in case they are subsequently attacked by Hizbollah.  He suggested that Israel will not reveal when and if they will attack.  However, he recommended that we bring this up with our Congressman now and inform our communities now so that in the event that Israel does attack there would be  understanding and acceptance of why this was necessary and also because Israel would need support as well as assurances for replenishing their military stock.

All I could think of while listening to this was Yisroel BTach BaHashem, Ezram Umaginum Hu. Israel Trusts in G-d, He is their Helper and their Protector.

The Dinner was a huge success. When I came it was hard to find a parking spot in Terrace on the Park  lot. The place was full with good food, good company and of course  scrumptious mouthwatering yummy deserts.  The videos and music of Yerushalyim made me teary eyed and the emotion and love of the Land was so obvious on the faces of all the honorees.  Each honoree felt so grateful that they had the merit to be part of this wonderful organization and be part of building up Yerushalayim .  Yasher Koach to all those involved in putting this event together

Now let's put aside current events and listen to the wisdom of Kitty Werthmann for a  sobering history lesson....

Truly is the Greatest Country in the World. Don't Let Freedom Slip Away
By: Kitty Werthmann

What I am about to tell you is something most probably never heard or will ever read in history books.

I believe that I am an eyewitness to history.  I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history.  We elected him by a landslide - 98% of the vote.  I've never read that in any American publications.  Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.

In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression.  Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed.  We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.

Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were going from house to house begging for food.  Not that they didn't want to work; there simply weren't any jobs.  My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need.  Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people - about 30 daily.

The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each other.  Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna, Linz, and Graz were destroyed.  The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let them decide what kind of government they wanted.

We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany, where Hitler had been in power since 1933.  We had been told that they didn't have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living.  Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group -- Jewish or otherwise.  We were led to believe that everyone was happy.  We wanted the same way of life in Austria . We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family.  Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back.  Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.

We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades.  The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed.

After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order.  Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed.  The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.

Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women.  Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home.  An able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn't support his family.  Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.

Hitler Targets Education - Eliminates Religious Instruction for Children:

Our education was nationalized.  I attended a very good public school.  The population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools. The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to find the crucifix replaced by Hitler's picture hanging next to a Nazi flag. Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class we wouldn't pray or have religion anymore.  Instead, we sang "Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles," and had physical education.

Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance. Parents were not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum.  They were told that if they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first time.  The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the third time they would be subject to jail.  The first two hours consisted of political indoctrination.  The rest of the day we had sports.  As time went along, we loved it.  Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment free.  We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful time we had.

My mother was very unhappy.  When the next term started, she took me out of public school and put me in a convent.  I told her she couldn't do that and she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful.  There was a very good curriculum, but hardly any fun - no sports, and no political indoctrination..  I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate it.  Every once in a while, on holidays, I went home. I would go back to my old friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing.  Their loose lifestyle was very alarming to me.  They lived without religion.  By that time unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler.  It seemed strange to me that our society changed so suddenly.  As time went along, I realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn't exposed to that kind of humanistic philosophy.

Equal Rights Hits Home:

In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established.  All food was rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps.  At the same time, a full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn't work, you didn't get a ration card, and if you didn't have a card, you starved to death. Women who stayed home to raise their families didn't have any marketable skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.

Soon after this, the draft was implemented.  It was compulsory for young people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps.  During the day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their barracks for military training just like the boys.  They were trained to be anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps.  After the labor corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines.  When I go back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors of combat.  Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an air raid attack.  I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go into the labor corps and into military service.

Hitler Restructured the Family Through Daycare:

When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government immediately established child care centers.  You could take your children ages 4 weeks to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, 7 days a week, under the total care of the government.  The state raised a whole generation of children.  There were no motherly women to take care of the children, just people highly trained in child psychology.  By this time, no one talked about equal rights.  We knew we had been had.

Health Care and Small Business Suffer Under Government Controls:

Before Hitler, we had very good medical care.  Many American doctors trained at the University of Vienna .  After Hitler, health care was socialized, free for everyone.  Doctors were salaried by the government.  The problem was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything. When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a.m., 40 people were already waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full.  If you needed elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn.  There was no money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine.  Research at the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and emigrated to other countries.

As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80% of our income.  Newlyweds immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a household.  We had big programs for families.  All day care and education were free.  High schools were taken over by the government and college tuition was subsidized.  Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as food stamps, clothing, and housing.

We had another agency designed to monitor business. My brother-in-law owned a restaurant that had square tables.  Government officials told him he had to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on the corners.  Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities. It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar.  He couldn't meet all the demands.  Soon, he went out of business.  If the government owned the large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be in control.

We had consumer protection.  We were told how to shop and what to buy.  Free enterprise was essentially abolished.  We had a planning agency specially designed for farmers.  The agents would go to the farms, count the live-stock, then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to produce it.

"Mercy Killing" Redefined:

In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps .  The villagers were surrounded by mountain passes which, in the winter, were closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated.  So people intermarried and offspring were sometimes retarded.  When I arrived, I was told there were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good manual work.  I knew one, named Vincent, very well.  He was a janitor of the school.  One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting into a van.  I asked my superior where they were going.  She said to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade, and to read and write.  The families were required to sign papers with a little clause that they could not visit for 6 months.  They were told visits would interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.

As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a natural, merciful death.  The villagers were not fooled.  We suspected what was happening.  Those people left in excellent physical health and all died within 6 months.  We called this euthanasia.

The Final Steps - Gun Laws:

Next came gun registration.. People were getting injured by guns.  Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns. Most citizens were law abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms.  Not long after-wards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in their guns.  The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.

No more freedom of speech. Anyone who said something against the government was taken away.  We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.

Totalitarianism didn't come quickly, it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria . Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath.  Instead, we had creeping gradualism.  Now, our only weapons were broom handles.  The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom.

After World War II, Russian troops occupied Austria .  Women were raped, preteen to elderly.  The press never wrote about this either.  When the Soviets left in 1955, they took everything that they could, dismantling whole factories in the process.  They sawed down whole orchards of fruit, and what they couldn't destroy, they burned.  We called it The Burned Earth. Most of the population barricaded themselves in their houses.  Women hid in their cellars for 6 weeks as the troops mobilized.  Those who couldn't, paid the price.  There is a monument in Vienna today, dedicated to those women who were massacred by the Russians.  This is an eye witness account.

"It's true..those of us who sailed past the Statue of Liberty came to a country of unbelievable freedom and opportunity.

Regarding destruction of Chareidi homes: Forbidden to sit on one's Laurel's and Fold our Arms HaRav Ben Zion Grossman of Migdal Haamek

bs"d

Yom Chevron 29 Iyar 5770

(Translation)  Interview Eretz Yisroel Shelanu

HaGaon HaRav Ben Zion Grossman of Migdal Haamek:
Soul Searching our Silence of  Gush Katif -

It is Forbidden to Sit Passively and Fold our Arms

The brothers of Yosef Hatzadik said to one another (Breishith 42:21) "Indeed we are guilty concerning our brother, inasmuch as we saw his heartfelt anguish as he pleaded with us and we paid not heed.  That is why this anguish has come upon us" When the State of Israel destroyed tens of settlements, abandoned thousands of Jews, and gave their lands to murderers who set fire to their Shuls, and the Chareidi community sat and was quiet, many said in their hearts:  this won't happen to us.  and behold, it happened, and today within Yerushalyim they are not building, and in Chareidi settlements they are demolishing homes"

*************************************

Honorable HaRav Grosman shlita,  Netanyahu is developing proximity talks with Arabs for the establishment of a Palestinian State and has frozen all building in Yerushalayim and the religious Chareidi parties are busy with themselves,

The Lubavitcher Rebbe warned immediately after the Six Day War, 43 or so years ago, that any concession will lead to additional concessions.  He cried strongly against religious parties supporting a government that was willing to cede parts of our Holy Land and he warned hundreds of times that in the end they will give away Yerushalayim, G-d forbid.  I am amazed how religious Jews can be a partner to this terrible situation as never before.

"Who believed two years ago that they would freeze construction in Ramat Shlomo or destroy houses in Modiin Ilit, and they would freeze all construction in Beitar Ilit?  The day before the elections, in an interview with Eretz Yisroel Shelanu, I warned of terrible consequences.  Unfortunately, it all actualized, because the words of the Tzadik Hador like the Lubavitcher Rebbe are not to be taken back.  What is left to do is for all the Rabbanim and ASkanim to stand up and not allow Chas Veshalom any progress in the continuation of negotiations that will bring the spilling of blood to millions of Jews in Eretz Hakodesh"

The awful destruction of the homes in Yishuv Modiin by inspectors of the Civilian Administration reminded many of the Churban of Gush Katif.  Is there a connection?

"
The Torah speaks of Yosef Hatzadik's brothers that they said 'Indeed we are guilty concerning our brother, inasmuch as we saw his heartfelt anguish as he pleaded with us and we paid not heed.  That is why this anguish has come upon us'.  It is no secret that at the time the State destroyed tens of Yishuvim, and figuratively abandoned thousands of Jews from the face of this earth, and gave their lands to murderers who set fire to their shuls and Batei Medrashoth, the majority of the Chareidi community sat and was silent including the Rabbanim.  Many said to themselves 'this won't happen to us' and behold this happened, and today  we see that in Yerushalayim they are not building, and in Chareidi communities they are destroying houses with fierce anger.

"It is clear that we need penetrating soul searching and know that the words of the Lubavitch Rebbe on the subject of Eretz Yisroel are actual words of prophesy, and not pointless, and everyone must act according to the Holy Torah, to do whatever is in his power with money or by deed, to stop the continuation of the political process and the practice of giving additional territory to Arabs.

"In Hilchos Taaniyot Perek  Aleph Halacha Gimmel, the Rambam writes:' But if they do not scream or make noise, rather they will say this matter is a usual occurrence that this tragedy  happened to occur, this is cruelty and causes them to adhere to their evil ways and bring additional anguish upon themselves'.  Therefore, everyone must learn from this, of what happened in Gush Katif, to rectify ones deeds and know exactly why this Tzara has coming upon us.

"From here I would like to praise HaGaon Rabbi Shalom Volpe, the one that sits at the head of Eretz Yisroel Shelanu, who according to the instructions of the Rebbe literally devotes his soul to this matter of saving Eretz Yisroel.  From him we should learn and act and each and every person is obligated according to Din Torah, to do whatever he can regarding this matter."

With what should we strengthen ourselves?

First of all strengthen ourselves with Torah, Mitzvoth and good deeds.  These are the protection of evil tidings with the anticipation of the coming of Moshiach speedily in our day.   With this having been said, it is our obligation, as Jews that have merited living in Eretz Yisroel HaKadosh, to do everything in ones power for Eretz Yisroel and not to rest on one's laurels and say "Peace be unto me".  Eventually, this awful danger will reach us all, and no one is excused monetarily or in deed in this matter of saving Eretz Yisroel and helping the settlements in every which way.  These words are directed to those in the Diaspora as well.  There is an obligation upon each individual.  Therefore I call upon you to assist all activities of "Hamateh LeHatzalas Haam VeHaaretz' and 'Eretz Yisroel Shelanu'.  I want to wish all of us that we merit receiving the Torah with inner joy from happiness and goodness of our hearts.

Shemittah - In honor of Parshat Behar - Bechukosai Robin Ticker Blogger Shemittahrediscovered profile and description (unabridged)

bs"d

Dear List, amv"sh

In honor of this past weeks Parsha Reading , Parshat Behar-Bechukosai, where details of Shemittah are discussed as well as the curses associated with failure to keep this crucial Mitzvah,  I am sending you an unabridged Profile and Description of  Shemittahrediscovered.blogspot.com

(The blog itself limits the number of characters in the profile and description)

My updated unabridged profile and description:

I am very focused on the Mitzvah of Shemittah, in the spirit of Shabbat, Olam Haba and the Taste of the World to Come, based on the Pshat, the literal translations of the Pesukim regarding Shemittah,  In 2005, following the expulsion of Gush Katif I started my blog and  posted a narrative of  my personal Shemittah experience of the year 1987 almost 18 years prior when I had lived as a single girl in Kiryat Arba.

Later posts on this blog are posts of activism by this blogger as well as fellow activists who are lovers of the Land of Israel such as Women in Green, Mattot Arim, Paul Eidelberg, Temple Mount activists and many others, etc. .  This blog can be searched for many historic posts of activism over the years but there is no pleasure, or shall we say no comfort in saying we told you so..... especially after much pain and suffering and learning the hard way...

It is this blogger's intent to be Mezakeh (make worthy) our fellow Jew to  be activists to claim entitlement of the Land of Israel now, today, so that we as a Nation will be worthy of G-d's benevolence and protection in the Land and in the Diaspora.

Let us beg Hashem to give us the opportunity to sanctify the Land with Torah teachings and holiness.  It is this bloggers' belief that it is within our reach to do so, Lo Bashamayim hi, our commandments are not made for heaven but within our reach TO DO IT! . It is not sufficient to merely learn and teach Torah until the Moshiach comes but we must also do and perform and practice all the commandments within our reach, and thus prepare the way for Moshiach's to come speedily soon.

The Land belongs to G-d and G-d has chosen the Jewish People to sanctify it with the observance of His commandments such as Shemittah in each and every generation as we say in Psukei D'Zimra, from Chronicles Aleph Chapter 16: "Zichru LeOlam Briso.. ""Remember forever His Covenant, the Word He commanded for a thousand generations, that He made with Abraham, and His oath to Isaac, the He established it for a statute for Jacob , for Israel as an everlasting Covenant, for you I shall give the Land of Canaan the lot of your inheritance. After 2,000 years it is truly miraculous that we finally are able to  return to our Land and observe many of it's holy commandments, something not within our reach for over 2,000 years..

Therefore we must actively be engaged in claiming this Land each and every day.  We say each and every day before Shma, "Vethen Belibeinu Bina, LeHavin, ULehaskil, Lishmoa, Lilmod Ulilameid, Lishmor, Velaasoth Ulekayem eth Kol Divrei Talmud Torathecha BeAhava".  We pray to the Almighty  ( Artscroll Schottenstein translation, my emphasis) Have mercy upon us and instill in our hearts, understanding to understand, and to comprehend, to listen, to learn, to teach, to observe, to to perform and to fulfill, all the words of the teachings of your Torah with Love.  Enlighten our eyes in your Torah, attach our hearts to Your commandments, and unify our hearts to love and to fear Your name so that we not be ashamed, nor be humiliated nor stumble for ever and ever, for in the Name of Your holiness that is great, mighty and awesome do we trust, we exalt and rejoice in Your salvation.  May Your compassion, Hashem, our G-d and Your kindness which is abundant, not forsake us for ever and ever.

How can we observe the Mitzvoth Teluyot Baaretz, commandments dependent on the Land, if we willingly allow our enemies to steal our identity, our entitlement, and chas vechalila willingly part with our precious Land for a pot of lentils? (empty promises of peace that only falsely  and temporarily satiate our need for peace )?

Therefore, these posts of activism on Shemittahrediscovered.blogspot.com are a plea to proclaim our entitlement of Eretz Yisroel so that once again the wisdom of our Precious Torah be observed and then be known throughout the world . The ultimate state of unity between G-d and the world will be expressed in the Era of the Redemption, when "the world will be filled with the knowledge of G-d as the waters cover the ocean bed."[15] as it says in the Torah that all the other nations will look at us and say Am chachom venavon - A wise and intelligent nation.

The latest posts, April 2010 onward are also  dedicated Li'lui Nishmat Israel Kaplan, z"l (in addition to the memory of my biological father Yosef Zeev ben Moshe z"l who took much pride when I went on Aliya and personally packed my lift).  Izzy was a father of activism, and someone that is mourned deeply by Eretz Yisroel activists.  May His Memory be for a Blessing.

The Mainstreaming of Anti-Semitism
By Lauri B. Regan
 - May 6, 2010 - American Thinker

It is time for American Jews to stand up and speak out. Enough of the debate about whether there is a gray area on which we can all agree. Anti-Semitism is a black-and-white issue. Hitler was evil. Ahmadinejad is evil. Period. And if American Jews do not wake up to the reality that there really is a right and a wrong, and stop talking about two sides to every issue,
they will find themselves reliving a second Holocaust
.

In a recent Shabbat sermon, the senior rabbi at one of Baltimore's largest congregations explained why, whether he liked it or not, he felt compelled to talk about Israel. He suggested that due to the voluminous number of e-mails he received discussing an article written by Ed Koch and a sermon delivered by local rabbi Mark Wohlberg, he felt compelled to discuss the topic on everyone's mind.

The opening remarks of the sermon reminded me of Obama's recent statement that "... whether we like it or not, America remains a military superpower." And while Americans have come to expect Obama's ridiculous apologies for America's exceptional nature, American Jews do not and should not accept this attitude from anyone -- least of all our rabbis. Our history and faith dictate, and our survival depends upon, our leaders -- our rabbis -- celebrating Israel's greatness and the success of the Jewish people.

The rabbi discussed a recent poll in which Israel joined Iran, Pakistan, and North Korea at the bottom of a list of 28 nations viewed favorably in the world. From there, rather than discuss what American Jews could do to help improve world perception of Israel, the rabbi politicized the two-state solution by characterizing it as an internal Israeli policy debate rather than what it is -- a fight for Israel's survival. Though there was no coherent message being conveyed, the rabbi used two words to describe Israel that said more than anything else in the speech -- "occupying state."

The clear message was that Israel is occupying land on which Jewish people are not entitled to live. After the service, I told the rabbi that I was offended by his description of Israel as an occupying entity -- a description reserved for use by anti-Semites. I suggested that, especially in light of recent rifts in U.S.-Israel relations and the virulent growth of anti-Semitism globally, rabbis need to choose their words wisely. He responded, "Oh, I see, you're from the far right."

The rabbi then stated that he would use another term if I could suggest something appropriate to describe what Israel was doing. I looked at him inquisitively and asked how Israel could be occupying land that God gave to the Jewish people thousands of years ago. And with his next question, the rabbi took the conversation to a new low for Jews and Christians the world over: "How do you know that? Just because the Bible says so?"

Rabbis whose views are driven by political ideology rather than faith-based spirituality enable leaders like National Security Advisor Jim Jones to feel comfortable making a pathetic joke about those greedy Jews. It is because of congregants who sit in the pews of liberal shuls and do not understand the issues, who agree with the liberal "blame the Jews" mantra, or who are too apathetic to speak up that Jones has not been forced to resign.

Imagine the reaction of the African-American community if Jones had begun a speech with a joke about black people that feeds into negative stereotypes about that race. And that's exactly what Jones' joke was -- racist -- but when it comes to the Jews, the only response is perhaps a whisper, but mostly silence.

The dichotomy between the American Latino response to an Arizona law addressing illegal immigration and the American Jewish response to the numerous anti-Israel policies emanating from the White House, including Obama's outrageous reaction to legal construction in Jerusalem, is also telling. While Latinos quickly unite, plan mass protests, and have the support of the liberal establishment, who threaten to boycott Arizona; Jews across the country debate and point fingers at each other about who is right and who is wrong, yet have no one but themselves to stand up for the Jewish homeland.

It is time for American Jews to stand up and speak out. Enough of the debate about whether there is a gray area on which we can all agree. Anti-Semitism is a black-and-white issue. Hitler was evil. Ahmadinejad is evil. Period. And if American Jews do not wake up to the reality that there really is a right and a wrong, and stop talking about two sides to every issue, they will find themselves reliving a second Holocaust.

In reaction to my response to the rabbi's sermon, a relative labeled me an extremist. If a fellow Jew labels me extreme for questioning a rabbi who openly pronounces that Jews should not look to the Bible for guidance on matters pertaining to the Promised Land because it apparently does not fit with his own ideology, then Jews the world over have a serious problem. If I am considered a right-wing lunatic because I believe that God gave the land of Canaan to the descendants of Abraham, then Israel has a problem. Perhaps they should consider that if more American Jews had been "extremists" in the early 1930s, the Holocaust may have been avoided, or at least have ended sooner.

Great Britain is expelling Israeli representatives while the U.S. is sending its first ambassador to Syria in five years. The president and his minions accuse Israel of being responsible for the death of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and fan the fires of ever-growing anti-Semitism worldwide. And self-hating Jews like Richard Goldstone, who have set Israel up as the scapegoat on the international stage, have the support of Obama, the Europeans, the Arab League, and the U.N.

Hamas, Hezbollah, and Syria have their missiles aimed at Israel and set on standby, and the Palestinians, to whom the world wants to cede parts of Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, educate their children to kill the Jews. At the same time, Obama intends to force a two-state solution on tiny Israel, all the while claiming that Israel has not proven its interest in peace and ignoring the reality of Palestinian rejectionism. Hamas and Hezbollah have been completely rearmed since previous conflicts with Israel, scud missiles are being shipped to Syria, the Islamic fanatics in Iran are building nuclear weapons, and the president has not approved a single major weapons request by Israel since taking office.

It is clear not only that Obama has no intention of helping Israel militarily, but also that members of his administration have made outright threats of armed action against our ally. When questioned about Obama's Mideast advisor Brzezinski, who believes that the U.S. should shoot down Israeli war planes if they fly over Iraqi airspace, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, simply responded, "I just wouldn't get into the speculation of what might happen and who might do what."

Here at home, American Jews have become complacent and apathetic. They are unmoved by the protests of anti-Semites screaming "Go back to the ovens" and "Nuke Israel." They have no interest in J Street's desire to divide the Old City of Jerusalem and its protests about Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren speaking at Brandeis University's commencement, nor in rabbis who claim that Jewish people do not have a Biblical and historical right to Israel.

This past week, anti-Semitic attacks have been directed at middle-school-age children in my hometown just outside New York City. Sixth-graders are checking out a website called "I Hate Jews," and Holocaust-deniers speak openly at the high school level.

This country desperately needs leadership that will bring people together, not feed into the biases that will tear it apart. American Jews bought into Obama's rhetoric hook, line, and sinker, and they were sold a bill of goods. But many of them do not realize it because they have rabbis, driven by liberal ideology, who stand on their bully pulpits preaching from the Torah of Liberalism.

It is one thing to claim to be a Zionist. But actions speak louder than words, and when 57% of American Jews still support Obama (and 55% support his handling of Israel), their Zionist declarations may make them feel good, but they have about as much weight as the empty promises made by their Messiah.

American Jews need to educate themselves to understand the history of the land of Israel. They must educate their children to be proud of their Jewish heritage. Only then will they move away from labels, differentiate good from evil, and feel comfortable confronting anti-Semitism. Israel's survival may very well depend on it.
