No Vote of Confidence in the Defense Leadership of the IDF. Moral unClarity. Unwillingness to listen to Clarity based on Torah and Jewish Identity. Lots of Red Flags

bs"d

With the failures of the IDF to deal with the Kite Terror in Gaza one needs to go to the root of the problem.  Hashem has been patient but we have had glaring red flags that if we continue to ignore them, it will blow up literally in our face.

Red Flag: Elor Azarya neutralized a terrorist and not only was he reprimanded by Yaalon even before the investigation was complete, he was compared to a Nazi, by Yair  Golan one of the leading contenders for next IDF Chief.

So here is a quote, straight from the mouth of Yair Golan, who today is Deputy Chief of Staff of the IDF, answering Atzmona pre- military students who stated that the IDF endangers its soldiers in order to safeguard hostile populations:

"The role of whoever dons a uniform is to endanger his life so that those who are not in uniform can live in peace. I have no problem with that." (Yair Golan, 2006, today a candidate for Israel's next Chief of Staff). see Moshe Feiglins links below.

my comments: Surely, mothers of these Chayalim have a big problem with this! For this we have sent in our sons to serve in the IDF?  To protect our enemy who use hostile civilians, men women and children, who are not in uniform, as human shields and willing, of their own volition, nurtured and groomed from a young age, to sacrifice their lives for Palestine?  This enemy is willing to endanger their own lives and the lives of their own people in order to kill Jews and certainly Chayalim! We sent in our sons into the IDF Davka to fight this snake.  If I was Hamas,  listening to this stupid, immoral elitist ethics as presented by IDF leadership, I would say the way to best way to fight the IDF is to continue and improve upon our present modus operandi.

Engage in Image Warfare

Ahed Temimi vs Elisha Odess. Imagefare vs Warfare  .

That is Hamas forte and plan of action: The IDF will fall for our deceit and protect all of our Jihadists dressed as civilians. Let us continue to use the disabled, women and children. The IDF will stupidly endanger the lives of their own soldiers by restraining themselves when being challenged by those who appear to be "weak". And even a known terrorist who plays dead while engaging in an act of terror will get the benefit of the doubt.

Another Red flag.  Research the Way the IDF treats the Hilltop Youth, those who want to settle the Land of Israel. Following the Duma arson, the Defense Minister was the first to condemn the Jewish Terrorists.  They "most certainly" perpetrated this act of arson in spite of any real investigation to speak of and total lack of forensic evidence. Hebrew Graffiti was basically what "convicted" these Jews (pointing to the Hilltop Youth aka "Jewish Terrorists") less than 12 hours after it happened by these so called VIP,  Defense and political experts.   Two and a half years later, following extensive investigation, illegal incarceration, torture, forced confessions and defamation and character assassination of the Hilltop Youth even by their own Rabbis, these kids are still being prosecuted and slandered and there has been no conviction and no real evidence that Jews actually set fire to this Arab home that killed a family of 3. Did they even investigate the possibility that this arson was perpetrated due to infighting of the Dawabshe family clans as did the other arsons related to this particular Dawabshe Arab family? But why use some common sense?  Read Tamar's Adelsteins writeup of what happened to Elisha Odess from a Mother's perspective: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B86sGl9yfinjTnczdDRTaFNDQ2ZSQm9JdUZ0bWlFcG1TejV3/view

Another Red Flag: The way the IDF treated Ahed Temimi, female teen Palestinian provocateur par excellence raised in a family steeped in terror attacks against Israel,  to the way they treat teen Elisha Odess, Hilltop Youth raised in a family steeped in Torah and Yirat Shamayim.

Ahed Tamimi released from Israel Prison. Compare Her Release with Jewish suspect Elisha Odess' Terms of Release

Let us Examine the Defense Leadership of Today and Tomorrow

Liberman says selection of next IDF chief to begin next week
Six-stage process to conclude at end of 2018 with appointment of successor to Eisenkot; Maj.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi seen as leading candidate

FIrst of all let's examine the Current Leadership in the  way they have conducted the war in Gaza. What is lacking is not their ability to conduct a successful military operation. What is lacking is leadership that welcomes guidance, moral clarity, based on Torah UmItzvoth and the Seven Noahide Laws, and Yirat Shamayim  with a clear and healthy sense of self  and Jewish Identity.  rather than governed by  Image and public opinion,  which seems to be the current Bible of the IDF.

Leading candidates: Reasons for Concern

Aviv Kochavi Leading contender

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aviv_Kochavi  He was the commander of the Gaza Division during the unilateral disengagement.  We are now in the war with Gaza as a direct consequence of the efficient job he did in expelling Jews from their homes in Gush Katif not to mention the brainwashing of IDF soldiers

The Gaza Expulsion Did Psychological Harm to IDF Soldiers
Like an ecological disaster, it continues to poison the entire Jewish body. Oped for this week's Gush Katif Memorial Day in Israeli schools.

Tefillin and Tzizit Campaign to Counter Motzei Shem Ra on the Israeli Gov't and the IDF.

bs"d

Re: A campaign to promote the Mitzvah of Tefillin and Tzizit for the protection for all the soldiers...

The recent aggressive campaign of various groups against Giyus (draft) of Chareidim has led to much Machlokes and a negative impression of Gedoilim who might be perceived as only caring about Yeshiva Bochorim, Bnei Torah,  sitting and learning  in Yeshiva while not really caring  about the combat soldiers facing our enemies in combat nor about the civilians under attack such as residents in Sderot or victims of terror attacks such as the one today in Adam in northern Jerusalem in Samaria.

fyi about LeHovin a newspaper with an Agenda

EXCLUSIVE REPORT: NEW ENGLISH NEWSPAPER LAUNCHED BY HAPELEG SUPPORTERS

This is a propaganda paper with an agenda. No Giyus (Chareidi draft) for Bnei Torah.

Here is the front page article by Rabbi Yosef Berkowitz  a pseudonym of Rabbi Sruly London from Flatbush.  After reading this  article one will come away thinking that Israel and the IDF has one agenda and that is to ensnare Bnei Torah to leave Yiddishkeit.

Lehovin Issue  8 Parshat Devorim page 1 True Unity as Tisha B'Av Approaches by Rabbi Yosef Berkowitz

Lehovin Issue 8 Parshat Devorim page 4 cont article from page 1

Lehovin Issue 8 Parshat Devorim page 6 News Room, Hundreds of Hamas Rockets hit Southern Israel, Kites still wreaking havoc in Southern Israel...

Pull Quote: "Frum politicians and journalists, after all, don't decide things for themselves; they consult with gedolei Torah and follow their directives"

Do the Rabbonim they reference agree with Lehovin's agenda?

I  doubt the Gedolim mentioned in this article approve of the agenda of this paper which serves only to divide Am Yisroel and Bnei Torah with Machlokes.

This paper fails to provide Hakoras Hatov to the existing entity that addresses the existential threats coming from our enemies to protect the people.  While they acknowledge that the existential threats exist they continuously bad mouth the IDF and the government of Israel who has to deal with these terror threats.

What is blatant is the failure to acknowledge that perhaps the Chayalim in Tzahal are there primarily to defend the security of all the people of Israel rather than to bring about a spiritual demise of G-d fearing Jews.

The accusations and allegations against the IDF and the Israeli Government in the larger scheme of things are false.

Soldiers serving in Hesder units as well as Nachal Chareidi units remain committed to Torah before, during and after their army service.  Their religious needs are being addressed so that they are not compromised.  They are G-d fearing and believe that their purpose in serving in the IDF is fulfilling the Mitzvoth D-Orayta of protecting the people and the Land of Eretz Yisroel from it's enemies. The majority of the secular Mosarati Idf Soldier as well believes that he is sacrificing his time and efforts in order to protect his family, his home and the people of Israel.

Are there elements in the army that are coming from an impure place which indeed might threaten the spiritual level of the soldier. Perhaps,  and it is right to address these concerns. But why throw out the baby with the dirty bathwater?

Ask any Holocaust Survivor if they prefer no Jewish military and no one to protect them and just have Bnei Torah learning as was the case prior to the Holocaust?

How many Yeshivas thrived in Nazi Germany? Can't think of one.

To call the IDF Shmad and a Spiritual Holocaust is to distort reality.

With Tzahal protecting  Israel and Hashem protecting Tzahal, there has been more Torah study in the Land of Israel happening than in the last 2,000 years!

Points to ponder..

Why does the Torah command "Vehaya Machanecha Kadosh", that the military camp be Holy,  if the Torah was against  a military camp? This Pasuk Pshuto KMashmao, its literal meaning, is not referring to being Holy in a separate seating concert!
Why are there so many Mitzvoth DOrayta, Biblical Commandments, pertaining to a military camp? Please consult Rambam Sefer HaMitzvoth or Sefer HaChinuch that has them delineated. Are they not relevant in today's world?
Why is Am Yisroel counted according to Yotzei Tzava, those of age to serve in the army, if the Torah is against a fighting army?
Why did Avraham Avinu, Yakov Avinu,  Moshe Rabbeinu, Yehoshua bin Nun, Dovid Hamelech etc. all engage in military warfare and engage in strategy, with real soldiers with real weapons, swords, spears, chariots, horses, elephants etc.  Is all this to detract from ones religiousity  as this article suggests?
Why did Moshe Rabbeinu rebuke the Tribes of Reuvein  and Gad for not joining with the rest of Am Yisroel to fight and conquer Eretz Yisroel?
Why does the Shulchan Aruch clearly state one is obligated to violate Shabbos and go to war to protect Eretz Yisroel?

Not to have a Jewish army is suicidal!

Alternatively, why can't Torah Leadership insist that the Defense Ministry be led by G-d fearing Jews?

To isolate all the G-d fearing Jews from the IDF will only serve to weaken the army since a G-d fearing army is the secret of its success!

Why not celebrate the recent appointment of promotion of Brigadier General Ofer Winter as Liberman's Military Secretary.

A July 9, 2014 call from an officer, then Givati Brigade commander,  to his soldiers on the eve of entering the Gaza Strip:
"History has chosen us to spearhead the fighting against the terrorist Gazan enemy which abuses, blasphemes and curses the God of Israel's forces," Winter wrote. "We have planned and prepared for this moment and we take the mission upon ourselves out of commitment, complete humility, and because we are prepared to endanger ourselves and lay down our lives in order to protect our families, our people and our homeland."
Winter then recited the Sh'ma Israel prayer, asking "the God of Israel" to "make our path successful as we go and stand to fight for the sake of your people of Israel against a foe who curses your name.
From the words of this article in LeHovin, one comes away with the wrong impression that the IDF is an unholy entity with an unholy agenda.   Probably the majority of the readers living in Flatbush, and hopefully Lakewood aren't impressed with this falsehood, but they might walk away with a lack of respect for all the Rabbonim mentioned in this article who are perceived to take the position of this paper which slanders the IDF and the Draft as being detrimental to serving G-d and keeping Torah and Commandments?

Silence will empower the side of evil.  By remaining silent and the public clueless of the Gedoilims position regarding whether or not there should be an army protecting Israel, and what role the Bachurim, the Bnei Torah should play to help the physical protection of Eretz Yisroel suggests that Bnei Torah should have no active role. The argument being  that to have an active role spells spiritual suicide.

How then will Bnei Torah  be included in the Nation of Israel's Army of Hashem? As it says Elef LeMateh, Elef LeMateh.

translation:
Any citizen who wasn't drafted for combat can participate in a war by prayer. This is how Chazal learned from the verse:
"A thousand to a Tribe, a thousand to a Tribe from all the Tribes of Israel you will send to the army. And they will give from the thousands of Israel 12,000 combat Soldiers".  Our holy Torah testifies that in the war of Midian they were commanded to extricate "a thousand to at Tribe  a thousand to a Tribe." And it is written in the Midrash Rabbah and in Yalkut Shimoni that "they were given", means there were another thousand from each tribe. It means that they paired each soldier with another soldier who would pray for the other. Indeed, in the war of Midian it was said, "And no one was unaccounted for." And certainly the fact that they were all saved was because of the prayer of Klal Yisrael "(Rabbi Simcha Hacohen Kook, the Admor of Boston).

We learn that the Torah does promote Chayalim that are engaged in active combat and promotes other Chayalin engaged in Tefilla....    The safety and security of the Chayalim actively engaged in combat is directly connected to the entire Nation's worthiness.

Being disengaged from the mainstream while disparaging our brothers who are actively engaged in combat, those who are carrying the burden disporportionately, is unfair and serves only to weaken the army engaged in combat.

Noone is exempt from this battle.

Let us therefore suggest the following!

Tefillin and Tzizit is the best Shemira for the Chayalim. This campaign can unite all of Am Yisroel.  Every Jew, practicing or not, should be encouraged to put on Tefillin and Tzizit for the protection of the soldiers!  Are the Roshei Yeshivot and Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah actively encouraging each and every Bachur, and every frum Yid  to have extra Kavana when putting on Tefillin and wearing Tzizit.  When davening and learning Torah,  they should remember to always have in mind the protection of the combat soldiers on the front and the protection of civilian populations  such as those targeted by Hamas Rockets. Chayalim and civilians under attack are depending on Bnei Torah to have this in their uppermost consciousness.

The reality of the threat is driven home best when one is under attack. Ask the children living in Sderot with sirens going off. Surely sitting in Yeshiva protected, far away from battle, makes it difficult to have the same Kavana as the G-d fearing soldier on the battlefield facing the enemy.

We can all agree, it is not Kochi veOtzem Yadi, our might and strength, that will ultimately protect us.

This point was recently brought home when a bullet pierced through the ceramic bullet proof vest of the IDF Soldier Aviv Levy hy"d.

Excerpts from this front Page Lehovin article....

"Dozens of leading Sefardi roshei yeshiva and rabbonim led a throng of thousands in tefilla at the kevorim of past great leaders of Sefardic Jewry. They cried out to Hashem over a decree that in just the last five years have brought, in the words of the Sefardi gadol Rav Yehuda Ades, a "spiritual holocaust for the Torah world in general and especially for the Sefardi Torah World".

A group of America's most revered talmidei chachamim met to discuss the situation in Eretz Yisroel.  The meeting, which brought together an unusually wide spectrum of manhigim, including Chacham Yosef Harari Raful, Rav Dovid Feinstein, Rav Aharon Feldman, Rav Osher Kalmanowitz, Rav Malkiel Kotler, Rav Dovid Harris, Rav Yaakov Horowitz, Rav Aharon Schechter and Rav Elya Ber Wachtfogel, was convened amidst deep concern at the reports of what is happening to bnei Torah there."

And in Eretz Yisroel itself, of course, gedolei Torah from every segment of Torah world have been crying out in pain over this crisis of immense proportions for the future of Torah and Yahadus in Artzeinu HaKedosha.  There are the gedolim whose profound distress at what is taking place is publicly known, like Rav Dovid Soloveitchik, Rav Azriel Auerbach, Rav Shmuel Deutsch, Rav Tzvi Friedman, RaYisroel Yaakov Kalmanovitch, Rav Tzvi Rotberg and Rav Moshe Shterbuch.

But there are many, many others, some of whom have kept a lower profile. On Shiva Assar B'Tamuz for example, the  renowned mashpia Rav Tzvi Meir Zilberberg led a yom tefillah in Meron at the tziyun of Reb Shimon bar Yochai,where Tehillim was said for almost four hours, with Rav Tzvi Meir leading the tefillos with bechiyos nora'os. ..."

What was missing from this article was the Gedoilim crying out in pain over the suffering of those in the south who have been targeted with Hamas Rockets that hit southern Israel and the kites still wreaking havoc in southern Israel that they reported in the News Section of the paper.

Readers might put 2 and 2 together and conclude that these aren't burning issues for the Gedoilim and if only there would be no Chareidi draft, then Hamas would stop sending in rockets and kites into Israel and ISIS would never threaten Israel.  It's like if we would only allow a Palestinian State in Judea and Samaria then there would be peace and security in the low lying population centers like Tel Aviv and Bnei Brak.

But obviously this is highly unrealistic.  Because a more logical conclusion is that we need a practical way to stop Hamas from attacking Israel and that a G-d fearing IDF is probably the best answer.

Another worrisome article in Lehovin:

Nationality Bill Loom Disastrous

Fwd: safe with me by Shalom Pollack on IDF Soldier injured with Marble Block by Arab Terrorist. May 25, 2018

The IDF soldier who was injured Thursday night when an Arab terrorist threw a marble block on him is still in critical condition.

The attack occurred in Ramallah.

The soldier, who suffered severe injuries to his head, is unconscious and on artificial respiration at Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. [Please davan for Ronen ben Lana]

He was wearing full protective gear at the time of the attack, and the marble block, thrown from three stories up, crushed his helmet. The terrorist was not identified and succeeded in escaping the scene.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) said, "Our hearts are with the Duvdevan fighter and his family. During these difficult hours, all of Israel is praying together for the soldier's recovery."

"We take this incident very seriously. The evil terrorist who injured him does not know day from night. Soon we will have our hands on him - whether he is alive or dead."

The above is yet another description of the continuing life and death struggle between us and those who do all they can to kill us.

(My cousin Aryeh Kupinsky was  one of these victims as he was butchered by Arab neighbors while praying in a synagogue three years ago.)

Some throw marble slabs from windows. Others use knives, guns, bombs, vehicles...pens, microphones and cameras.

Not all are Arab. Some of the most effective enemies of our people are even Jewish, but that tragedy is not what is on my heart today.

As a tour guide, my job - my mission,  to share this beloved land with visitors.

Our special sweet land is plagued with an Arab population that has neglected and abused it for centuries, when it was almost empty of inhabitants and life.

 Her own people longed and pined for it from the four corners of the world in their forced dispersion and exile.

When we began to trickle back over arduous and perilous paths we arrived in a  land that immediately felt and absorbed the sweat, blood, and tears of joy and hardship of its beloved returning sons and daughters. It in return responded with what quickly metamorphosed into the garden of Eden. Yes, a miracle that was prophesied.

The bittersweet history of the price paid for this modern miracle is well documented.

What is an ever-present pain in my heart is the fact that the scourge of the Arab occupants who trashed the land and then murdered its returning people at every opportunity is still here amongst us. They continually improve their killing and destruction methods.

Yet this is not my deepest frustrations.

No. What frustrates me most is that when God in His deep mercy gave us the opportunity to rid ourselves of this plague we chose to ignore the opportunity. Nay, to desecrate it.

Fifty-one years ago on the eve of the Six Day War, it looked like the end of the Jews in Israel and of the nineteen-year-old return to Zion.

In 1967 Six Days War Israel with the intimate direction of God, turned the tables on the Arab world around us and instead of them committing their promised genocide on two million Jews they were utterly defeated and humiliated in the wink of an eye.

Now we come to the part that leaves my heart no rest.

Defence Minister Moshe Dayan and his comrades never saw God's Hand it this or in anything else in our beloved land.

They were the pinnacle of hubris and egotism.

The defeated Arabs begged for permission to run with their lives and not face what they were planning for us had they won. Their bags were hurriedly packed. Every window flew a white flag.

Dayan, the magnanimous, enlightened victor gave them his condescending smile and assure them they are safe with him.

They were indeed very safe, but not us

It could have been different.

It should have been.

From Israel: Triumphant Take!

Before we get to the take…

Last night, when I checked the YouTube link I had provided in my last posting for the incredible Pierre Rehov video on the violence at the Gaza fence, it was not working – you may have discovered the same thing. Pierre confirms that YouTube took it down. He has put it up again with YouTube using a different URL. I, however, prefer to provide you with another URL for the video, which is safer and will not come down:

https://vimeo.com/267378152

It remains important that it be seen. Please! Share this link with your contacts. YouTube must not get the best of us on this.

~~~~~~~~~~
There were no fatalities this Friday at the fence, where it is estimated 7,000 gathered across five locations. Huge tires were burnt once again, and there were plans to send 300 incendiary kites over the fence to start multiple fires inside of Israel.
That plan failed to a considerable degree, however, as the wind was blowing from the east. The wind also blew the smoke from the tires back at the "protesters," driving them away from the fence.
~~~~~~~~~~

But they had a new gambit, and this one is incredible:

Dozens of rioters broke through the barbed wire that surrounds the Kerem Shalom crossing with Israel on the Gaza side (that is, they did not break through into Israel).

This crossing is utilized for bringing humanitarian aid into Gaza. Last week alone, 2,370 trucks carrying humanitarian supplies had entered Gaza via this crossing.

trucks at crossing

Twitter

And what did they do when they reached the crossing? They set it on fire.

I am not making this up. I could not.

Kerem shalom fire

Credit: Behind the News

In the fire, the gas pipeline that supplies Gaza with fuel also went up. You can see a video of this, taken by IDF drones (which later crashed), here:

http://www.jewishpress.com/news/eye-on-palestine/hamas/in-weekend-gaza-border-violence-gazans-burn-their-own-gas-pipeline/2018/05/05/

~~~~~~~~~~
Last night, for the first time, Israel struck a Hamas base in the north of Gaza in retaliation for the incendiary kite violence. The IDF said this was a base from which kites have been launched.
https://www.timesofisrael.com/in-first-israeli-planes-bomb-hamas-post-in-response-to-gazan-attack-kites/
This single action cannot be effective in discouraging the kiters or getting Hamas to stop them. Hopefully, it is the start of a new campaign of persistently strong action regarding the kites.
~~~~~~~~~~

As to that "Triumphant Take":

I am alluding to the coup by the Mossad that I wrote about in my last posting. I thought it was fantastic, as did many others. But there were, naturally, nay-sayers who found all sorts of things to criticize. Some of the major points that have been made:

— The Mossad should have just have scanned the documents and left the originals in the Iranian storehouse so that Iran would not even have known that we had the information.

— The prime minister should never have announced what the Mossad did, as this exposed intelligence work.

— Netanyahu should have made his announcement only in Hebrew, for the Israeli populace.

— Netanyahu didn't reveal anything that was not known previously, and what is more, what he spoke about was worthless because it did not expose any material breach of the deal by Iran.

— Netanyahu should have attacked Iran way back when (as certain self-important persons advised him to do), so that all of this would have been unnecessary. In that way, Israel would have been defending herself. As it is now, by seeking to get the Western world to renegotiate or reject the Iran deal, Netanyahu has turned Israel's security over to others.

Undoubtedly, a fair number of you have been exposed to this fault-finding.

~~~~~~~~~~
On Friday, a column by Caroline Glick was published that described Netanyahu's plan in a way that addresses and rebuts these criticisms. As I have indicated, I thought it was an incredible operation from the time I heard Netanyahu speak. But after reading Glick, I was truly blown away.
Glick said that the public announcement of the operation by our prime minister was not aimed at the Americans — the Americans had been privy to this information since last March, when the Mossad gave the CIA the full archive. Netanyahu coordinated his presentation with Trump and Pompeo in the two days before he went public with it.
It was not for the Europeans, as they are not key players.
The presentation was for the Iranians. As Glick explains (emphasis added):
"At its base, Jew-hatred is a neurotic condition. Anti-Semites fear Jews. They perceive them as all-powerful…anti-Semites see Jewish fingers in everything bad that happens to them.
"Netanyahu's presentation pushed all of Iran's leaders' neurotic anti-Semitic buttons.
"Netanyahu opened by revealing the existence of Iran's secret archive of its military nuclear program:
"'Few Iranians knew where it was, very few,' he began.
"And without missing a beat, as if stating the obvious, he added nonchalantly, 'And also a few Israelis.'
"In other words, Netanyahu told the Iranians that just as they fear, the Jews know everything about them. The Jews know their deepest secrets. It doesn't matter how closely guarded a secret is. The Jews know it.
"That would have been enough to send the likes of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Gen Kassem Suleimani into a fetal position. But Netanyahu was just getting warmed up.
"Netanyahu then showed photographs of the nuclear archive – first from the outside, and then from the inside. It was as if he just wrote, 'Kilroy was here,' on Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's bedroom door.
"And then came the coup de grace. Netanyahu pulled down two black curtains and revealed the files themselves. Two hundred or so binders filled three bookcases. Two panels contained row after row of CDs – all taken from Iran."
Iranian files
This potently answers the question about why the Mossad took the actual files: Israel's enemies, says Glick, recognize Israel's technological superiority but express contempt – saying that Israel resorts to methods such as cyberwarfare because we are afraid to send our soldiers into a physical battlefield.
"…Khamenei and Suleimani wouldn't have risked placing the physical archive of Iran's illicit military nuclear work under one roof if [they] had feared that Israel would send its forces to seize it.
"…if the Mossad scanned the documents onto a hard drive…the effect of the raid would have been significantly diminished.
"When Netanyahu pulled back the curtains, he exposed not only the regime's perfidy, but its weakness. The Jews breached its vaunted defenses and made off with a half-ton of incriminating documents without being discovered.
There can be no greater humiliation.
~~~~~~~~~~

Caroline Glick

Glick makes clear what she sees as Israel's strategic goal: "Netanyahu's presentation indicates that Israel's goal is to empower the Iranian people to overthrow the regime.

"The first step towards achieving that goal is to make the regime lose confidence in itself…"

She describes the extent of protests that are currently going on in Iran. I alluded to some of this recently with regard to public unrest because of severe water shortages.

"Anti-regime protesters who have taken to the streets since last December shout slogans attesting to their loss of fear of the regime. Israel's stunning intelligence coup, and Netanyahu's stone cold humiliation of the regime…will empower them to revolt."

One other aspect of the situation with Iran is pertinent, as Glick describes it:

"Since the Iranian Revolution, the US consistently shielded Iran and its proxies from Israel." She describes several instances, but this had been particularly true with the Obama administration. But now, "over the past three weeks, the Trump administration has made clear that it has no intention of restraining Israel" with regard to actions in Syria

The implications of this are enormous: "Israel has taken its gloves off in Syria...The Iranians now realize Israel has been given a green light from the US to defeat its forces in Syria. And they are terrified."

Glick maintains that recent actions, rather than fomenting war as some claim, have reduced the possibility of war: "Hemmed in by an empowered US-backed Israel and an angry, rebellious Iranian public, that just watched its humiliation on Israeli television, it is hard to see the scenario where the regime embarks on a war it is now convinced it will lose."

A quick look here regarding our putative "peace partner" Mahmoud Abbas and his cohorts:

It was at an early moment in the four day meeting of the Palestinian National Council, held in Ramallah last week, that Mahmoud Abbas delivered his virulently anti-Semitic statement as part of broader comments.

Then, at a later point in the gathering, after those remarks had been made, Abbas was unanimously re-elected as head of the PLO's Executive Committee, a position he has held since the death of Arafat in 2004.

There was no suggestion that it was no longer fitting for him to hold that position because of his overt Jew-hatred. On the contrary, the vote provided him with political backing when he was being attacked internationally.

To those of us with eyes to see, this comes as no surprise. But there are some who imagine that "moderates" exist within the echelons of the PLO, so that someone might be found to replace Abbas and further "peace." What the PLO did last week handily dispenses with any such fantasy.

On Friday, after he had been re-elected to his position, Abbas "apologized" if his statement "offended people of the Jewish faith," expressing "full respect for the Jewish faith."

However, please note that he did NOT retract his statement that the Holocaust was caused by usury and other financial behaviors of the Jews and not by Nazi anti-Semitism.

Defense Minister Lieberman had it exactly right when he declared Abbas to be "a pathetic Holocaust denier who wrote a doctorate on Holocaust denial," and said "his apology is not accepted."

I will save for my next posting discussions of what might or might not be coming down the road with regard to demands made on Israel by the Trump administration in connection with his "peace plan."

Right now we are anticipating the celebration that will accompany the inauguration of the new US Embassy in Jerusalem next week. At this moment, there is apparently no solid information regarding whether the president will be attending. It is rumored that announcements about the plan will follow shortly thereafter.
