Jewish Press - Fantastic articles this week!

bs"d

Did you get this weeks Jewish Press.  It's the best I've seen. Read the front page article entitled "Israel's Founding Revisited" by Elliot Resnick about Israel Eldad z"l author of the "First Tithe" and father of Arieh Eldad who ran the Lehi movement also known as the Stern group.  It blew my mind. The Jewish Press  staff reporter Elliot Resnick interviewed Zev Golan who described the difference in ideology between Hagana and Lehi, Begin and Eldad.   Here are some excerpts:

Resnick:    People also credit the UN vote of  November 29, 1947 as instrumental in creating Israel.  However, while many Jews in Palestine danced in the streets the night of November 29, Eldad walked around depressed.  Why?

Golan replies: Eldad compares that night to the time when Israel danced around the Golden Calf and said, "This is the god who took you out of Egypt."  Here they were looking to the UN and saying "this is the god who has given us the State," and it wasn't.

About the Altalena  ship where the IDF, on Ben Gurion's orders, fired on the ammunition - laden Altalena ship, killing 16 Irgun fighters.

Resnick asks: "So if it had been up to Eldad, the Jews on the Altalena would have shot back? Golan responds

"Without a doubt.  He would've shot back and made a move elsewhere to take power"

...and create a separate Jewish State in Jerusalem
Right, that's what he wanted to do.  But at that point, not only was Begin not on his side in terms of strategy but neither really was Lehi, which had moved leftward.

Begin said "I won't allow a civil war.  If they shoot at us, we're not going to shoot back" and Eldad said "We need to take power; we can't let power stay to the hands of people who are shooting at us and killing Jews".

Elliot Resnick:  "Many would consider the thought of shooting back at fellow Jews to be horrific.

Golan: The horrific thought is not that Jews would shoot back at people trying to kill Jews and prevent the salvation of Israel.  The horrific thought is that Jews would take that first shot at Jews whose only goal was to help Israel.

And if the Jews who are fighting to save the country announce in advance that they will not fight back if the government comes to kill them, why fight at all?  If you announce that in advance, the other side really can get away with anything it wants.  So Begin had lost as soon as he made that announcement.  He was saying essentially, I don't care if Ben-Gurion runs the country.

Robins Comment, Dejas vu.  When the Yesha Council in Gush Katif agrees to be dragged to jail rather than declare their entitlement and rights to the Land of Israel and express a willingness to fight Kassam or Yassam, they lost as soon as they made that announcement  and was saying essentially, let Sharon run the country and carry out the disengagements.   Who knows if today we would be negotiating giving away our heartland in Judea and Samaria had we stopped it in Gush Katif and would have said we are making our own Judean State whose capital is in Jerusalem.Instead of handing over parts of Jerusalem to Fatah we could have suggested dividing Jerusalem between Jews and Jews.

Let us defend ourselves of Arab aggression and if the government of Israel decides that it does not want to defend these territories, we are proud Jews that are willing to fight to defend our land.  (even though our settlement protects the rest of Israel as has been clearly proven with Sderot).  Rather than a civil war between brothers we could have suggested a parting of the ways between brothers such as Abraham and Lot where each side chooses to separate peacefully. This is a situation where the sides can not coexist as one and G-d is unable to dwell with Lot in Abraham's midst.  This is a situation where the positions are mutually exclusive and cannot coexist but each side continues to love each other and do not hate one another.

Golan says that there is no doubt that his vision (Eldad's) of redemption is the biblical, prophetic and traditional view of redemption.  Avraham Stern (Lehi's founder) put the building of the Temple into the principles of the Stern Group and called it a recognition, a symbol of redemption.

Also read Paul Eidelberg M34 (Magazine section) entitled :"From George Washington to Barack Obama. The Decline of America" He writes: Notice that first Washington identifies the good of America with the good of mankind.  Rightly so, because America was the first and only nation explicitly founded on the Seven Noahide Laws of Univeral Morality.    Eidelbertg points out how Obama consistantly demotes America and puts Islam ahead of Judaism.  to be continued.

Robin comments: I like that Prof. Eidelberg is speaking about the Noahide laws.  This is the Jewish answer to the Non Jew rather than Xtians, since we do not believe in J as the Savior of humanity.

Then read a phenomenal article by Caroline Glick page 22 entitled "Extrordinary Jews"  She describes the sacrificing actvists, the individuals and not the organizations who are extraordinary Jews  who finance her speaking engagements out of no compensation for themselves but merely to be there for Israel and safeguard her settlment.  Now even though I and my friends are not mentioned since we have not personally funded Caroline Glicks articles we do publicize them.  She writes "Their willingness to devote their time and effort to the increasingly lonely task of defending Israel makes them all extraordinary Jews.  it takes one to know one.   We agree. to her assessment.

Finally, they are printing the right kind of articles..  Even Menachem Porush in "As I see It" on Page 16 in an article entitled "Israel: Sixty-One Years Later" spoke up for our entitlement of EY and not merely because there is no peace partner.  "Many politicians continue to give the impression that Israelis are in agreement vis-a-vis a Palestinian state, but lacking is the condition that our enemies commit to the existence of a Jewish State.  While the ARabas seek our destruction, G-d forbid, we religious Jews firmly believe in G-d's Torah promise that "To you and to your children will I give this Land."

Robin's Comment:  Case in point, unfortunately, the Young Israel Campaign emphasizes such points rather than G-d's promise to us and to our children.  www.youngisrael.org/content/usa.cfm

As for Feiglin's article on Page 45, it was very disappointing.  Feiglin  has the right ideology which is to keep Judea and Samaria and Gaza but still can not declare independence from Likud, a party that is selling the country down the tubes.  Shimon Peres is now representing Likud in Washington thereby betraying the entire Nationalist camp that voted for Likud.

Feiglin has a way with words.  What is he saying when he writes about (Begin, Shamir, Netanyahu and Sharon, ) "They lack in the Jewish aspect  (meaning lacking in faith) that gives flavor to the entire Jewish Nationalist enterprise and therefore internalized the Left's agenda rather than Likud's agenda.   If all the Previous Likud's administrations failed to carry through on our entitlement of Eretz Yisroel, why is Feiglin holier then the pope and feel that he can reverse the trend and be true to the Likud's constitution?   It was in these administrations that Oslo, Wye and the Disengagement happened.  Why can't Feiglin come out and say that by doing so Hefeiru Toratecha, they annulled our Covenant which is Divine,  and  precedes the Likud Constitution by thousands of years?

I don't remember Feiglin denouncing Annapolis publicly and aggressively and he did not lead or join a campaign to condemn Annapolis. He chose instead to concentrate on campaigning.  In doing so, he neutralized the activism of the best lovers of Eretz Yisroel and a significant section of the Nationalist camp that voted for Likud.  That is painful to me because his following includes the most dedicated, hard working devoted, ardent lovers of the Land of Israel.  Why should all their energies dissipate under Likud?  What a waste.  He did not choose to join with National Union as an equal partner which is under a Torah ideology since he felt that is did not represent a cross section of the country but only a faction. Where is our faith that Torah is Universal?  Feiglin still chooses instead to be subservient to the Likud party under Netanyahu's reign until he is Prime Minister.  He is afraid to use the words Torah in his speeches but rather couches his words with more politically correct usage such as "lacking in the Jewish aspect that gives flavor the the entire Jewish Nationalist Enterprise".  It pains me to suggest that   Feiglin really does belong within Likud since his leadership is consistent  with their leadership. While his words are music to the Nationalist camp and are consistent with Torah his actions do not reflect faith in Hashem but rather his faith that sticking with the Likud party, an established party,  will bring about his leadership and Israel's salvation.

We are clearly seeing under the Obama administration that words are meaningless unless they are backed up with actions that are consistent with these words.

In the Jewish Press's editorial "What the President Didn't Say" Page 5 Obama spoke very movingly at the Holocaust Remembrance speech to the Congressmen on the Capitol Rotunda .  The Jewish Press reports that "The President called on Americans to give force to the pledge "Never Again" and with stirring cadence asked, "How do we ensure that "never again" isn't an empty slogan, or merely an aspiration, but also a call to action?"

The Jewish Press brought this to light obviously annoyed at this hypocracy with an adjacent article on page 4 by Larry Domnich entitled "A Post Pesach Dayenu: Enough"  which concludes Dayenu, Mr. President. Enough is enough..

This Dayanulists 23 or so actions of President Obama that speaks of  how he befriended anti-Semtic leaders and terrorist regimes  prior and during his administration. These actions include having been a member of Jeremiah Wrights church for 20 years, befriended Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidy, bowed to the Saudi King, declared friendship to mullahs of Iran, called for talks with North Korean dictator Kim Yong,  called for more talks with nuclear ambitious mad dictator Ahmadinejad, embraced Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez and accepted an American-hating book, gave audience and credibility to Nicaraguan dictator Daniel Ordega appointed Janet Napolitano director of Homeland Security, appointed Eric Holder attorney general, recommended Chas Freeman as chief of National Intelligence Council, apportioned $920 million to Gaza, ordered  the closing of Guantanamo Bay and expressed approval of an investigation of former Bush officials whose objectives were to protect Americans and did in fact  protect Americans in their interrogations techniques by preventing further terror attacks, cut military budget, announced his intentions in Prague to destroy Americas nuclear weapons and called America arrogant before other Nations.

How disturbing that words become the vehicle to say one thing but actually mean exactly the opposite.  Will we be forced to become cynical and learn to take empty words of Obama and interpret them to mean the opposite?  Will we continue to believe what we read and hear by political figures and media as truth or as lies?

Thank you to the Jewish Press for publishing these articles that serve to express our entitlement of Eretz Yisroel and to expose Obama without rose tinted glasses. thank you as well for other excellent articles regarding Shalom Bayis (Dr. Yael Respler, Rebbetzin Jungreiss, Rabbi Daniel Schonbuch etc)

Sincerely, Robin Ticker

Vehaya Machanecha Kadosh! How to best counter bad Internet influence, destructive text messaging...etc.

bs"d

Please forward to whomever is willing to read:

Tonight I came back from an Aseifa (gathering) put together by the Prospect Park Yeshiva in response to the detrimental effects that todays internet, cell phones, ipods, video games etc. have on our children.  There is no reason for me to doubt the veracity of the the claims that today's technology has extremely destructive consequences on many of our children.  Everyone apparently is at risk.  The easy accessibility to such negative influences to violence, pornography, unhealthy relationships at early ages has united the Rabbanim to alert the public and to convince parents to curb the use of these devices in order to protect our children from a young age.

Yet as an astute teenager remarked to me, many good kids that would have been cautious in the use of these devices in the first place  will be the first ones that will listen  to this ban while those that have a problem and should listen and stop messaging or access to the internet will be angry and disregard.  Those that should have come to this Aseifa didn't come and those that didn't really have any issues will be the most willing to adhere to the recommendations.

Let me suggest that banning messaging and internet  is not a solution.

Because my guess is that many kids like their parents have been using the cell phones and the internet for positive things as well.  When we limit the use of the cell phone including text messaging we do stop the negative but we also inhibit the positive.  It's like some cancer treatments.  We possibly destroy both the unhealthy and the healthy tissues.  In the worse case scenario we inhibit the healthy tissue but the unhealthy tissue continues to thrive.

If the kids who primarily use these devices for positive purposes like organizing chesed activities or texting Tehillim notices, stop as they have been told, and those that use it for negative purposes continue and disregard the ruling of the Rabbanim, we have succeeded in stopping much positive but have not succeeded in stopping the negative.

This is not our goal.

You ask "How much positive is happening as a result of exposure to the Internet or text messaging?"

I can give you my own personal experience. Just today, I read posts of how Jews in Judea and Samaria, Sderot are under constant danger of attack from the enemy.  But thse that do not go on the internet have no clue.  Therefore Rabbanim have not issued any proclamation about "Vehaya Machanecha Kadosh" literally.  When Jews in Eretz Yisroel are attacked then it is a Milchemet Mitzva to fight our enemy even on Shabbat.  When we go to war then the army must be a "Holy Camp".  This is the literal explanation of "Vehaya Machanecha Kadosh".

The kids by enlarge in our Yeshivoth are self absorbed and have not been made aware of the terrible threat Am Yisroel and the entire world is facing.  Europe is blatantly antisemitic.  Today for example I got an email of pictures in Europe with Nazi propoganda, dated May 2009.  I read Arutz7 about attacks in Judea and Samaria which stabbed kids from Bat Ayin and about other attacks because of lack of civilian defense by the IDF.  Some of these attacks were miraculously Bchasdei Hashem prevented. Some were not.   I read of Obama's civilian defense force bill which sounded very scary to me because it talked about unifying millions of kids into a volunteer force where it would be forbidden to engage in religious activity or protest etc and such service would be required for student loans.  Then I read in Aruz7 about the eminent deal with the Catholic Church to take over Har Zion which will bring in tremendous numbers of Catholics to Har Habayit and other sites in EY which they consider as their Holy sites.  Instead of us claiming Har Zion and Har Habayit as belonging under Jewish Sovereignty we suffice our claim to the Har Zion and Har Habayit by  merely performing  lip service in our Tefila, prayers to bring back the Avoda of the Beit Hamikdash amd  we allow the likes of Danny Ayalon to make deals with the Pope.  All these emails make me want to cry bitterly for our Holy Temple and our lost opportunities to keep the Mitzvoth and bring peace and blessings to all of mankind.

Do the Rabbanim get these emails that keeps me up till late hours in the night?  If they practice what they preach they  have no access to these emails except to conduct business.

Yes, I too have trouble waking up on time in the morning and I am bleary eyed the next day.  Just like your students who are busy texting till wee hours in the night on stupidities.

If these same kids only knew what was facing them in the future chas vechalila, it would be a wake up call to them to grim realities and they would recognize together with their parents what they should be spending their time doing.  They themselves will make the right choices of life and not on fantasy action emptiness and nonsense.

But if they have no clue because  their teachers have no clue how are they to blame? The spiritual leaders are off the internet and have willingly or due to mere ignorance  seem to have turned a blind eye to what is happening in Eretz Yisroel. They foolishly believe that what I can't see can't hurt me.

Have we as a Nation chas vechalila disregarded our Covenant with Hashem?  Our alliances and silence show a willingness to give away parts of our birthright and ignores the suffering of our fellow Jew in Judea, Samaria and what was formerly Gush Katif.  As a result, the Mitzva of "Vehaya Machanecha Kadosh"  takes a prominence but in a distorted way.

These same educators and parents will be forced to become familiar with the internet and text messaging and all the Shmutz out there anyway in an attempt to effectively monitor their kids activities.  They won't even be successful at monitoring much of the time because it will be almost impossible to effectively monitor due to the widespread and easy access of this very disturbing material.

So if we truly wish to fight these negative influences, we must use the tools of the internet and the cell phone and of modern technology to raise awareness and help our fellow Jew in Eretz Yisroel in positive ways and to make choices that bring life and not death.

Our grievous mistake is to not adequately use  the tools at hand to serve Hashem and spread Torah.  We need to proclaim to the entire world that Am Yisroel belongs in Eretz Yisroel exclusively. Only we Am Yisroel have the responsibility and the obligations to keep the Mitvoth in Eretz Yisroel.  Let us proclaim that Eretz Yisroel is our precious gift from Hashem.  Our mission as a Mamlechet Kohanim VeGoy Kadosh, a Kingly Nation of Priests and a Holy Nation, is to bring forth Torah and  Kedusha, holiness of the Land.  The message Ki M iZion Tetzeh Torah Udvar Hashem MeYerushalyim will permeate the world.  From Zion will come forth Torah and the word of Hashem from Jerusalem. This in turn will bring peace and prosperity and holiness to mankind.  The Shmutz of the internet will naturally dissipate.

Here are some of the emails I received just tonight: If I look at all these emails would it enter my mind to even access the shmutz that is out there or to waste my time with stupidities and trivialities? My mind is on overload with this material.

SCARY!!!!!!

How could things be deteriorating at such an alarming rate under Obama administration?  Thank you Janet Lehr for sending in THINK ISRAEL newsletter.  When G-d is not allowed in the picture it raises a red flag.

THE SERVE AMERICA ACT, OBAMA-KENNADY PLAN FOR FEDERAL STUDENT LOANS

[The Edward M. Kennedy] Serve America Act - [The Civil National Security Force]

HR 1388 - formerly known as the GIVE Act (Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education) passed the Congress in March and was signed into law by Obama on Tuesday. But Congress still has to approve the funding as part of the FY 2010 budget.

On first reading of this bill, I was relieved when I saw that it was only for a STUDY to determine how such a program could be implemented. Little Did I Know... that language was later dropped from the bill and now Obama's "civilian national security force" is the LAW.

Not only will this 'army' of community organizers eventually involve as many as 8 - 9 million people, it will be MANDATORY for anyone who gets federal student loans.

And check out the small print:

Those in an "approved national service position" may not be involved in the following 10 don'ts

  • try to influence legislation
  • engage in protests or petitions
  • take positions on union organizing
  • engage in partisan political activities
  • be "engaging in religious instruction
  • or
  • conducting worship services,
  • providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship,
  • constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship,
  • maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or
  • engaging in any form of proselytization."

Unconstitutional? First Amendment, you say?

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Israel Kaplan <israelkaplan@yahoo.com>
Date: Sat, Apr 18, 2009 at 6:15 PM
Subject: OVERVIEW OF LATEST ATTEMPT TO KILL JEWS
To: IZZY <israelkaplan@yahoo.com>

DEAR LIST:
equipment needed for reserve combat engineers battallion 8163, Infantry battallion 967 and the Aleksandroni brigade.

A NEW WAVE OF RANDOM TERROR HAS BEGUN TO CAUSE GRAVE CONCERN THROUGHOUT WHAT IS KNOWN AS THE WEST BANK COMMUNITIES OF YESHA.    A BRIEF OVERVIEW BY YISRAEL DANZIGER OF MISHMERET YESHA FOLLOWS MY UPCOMING COMMENTS.   THIS PAST THURSDAY (ISRU CHAG) WE SPENT THE DAY JUST OUTSIDE OF EFRAT WITH TWO REPRESENTATIVES OF A RESERVIST (MILUIM GROUP).    A GROUP OF APPROXIMATELY 80 RESERVISTS WILL BE LEAVING FOR SH'CHEM NEXT SUNDAY AND ARE IN NEED OF BASIC EQUIPMENT.    THROUGH A DONATION THAT I HAVE PERSONALLY MADE IN MEMORY OF MY LATE FATHER AND A DONATION FROM TORONTO ZIONIST COUNCIL, WE ARE PROVIDING CLOSE TO 50 BULLET PROOF VESTS WHICH WILL BE USED AS WELL BY MEDICS IN THIS PLATOON.   HOWEVER THE ONE MAJOR PROBLEM IS THAT THE PROTECTIVE FAMASTON SHIELDS THAT GO INSIDE WILL ONLY BE GOING INTO 8 OF THE VESTS AND WE NEED ANOTHER 70 ODD TO PROVIDE THEM WITH FULL PROTECTION.   THIS RESERVIST GROUP WILL BE STAYING IN SH'CHEM FOR APPROX. 24 DAYS AND HAS A SPECIFIC TASK WHICH IS USING HEAVY EQUIPMENT TO CLEAR AWAY HEAVY BUSH SO THAT WELL ARMED TERRORISTS ARE NOT ABLE TO AMBUSH OR KIDNAP IDF PATROLING THE AREA.
OUR COST OF THE LIGHT WEIGHT FAMASTON BULLET PROOF INSERTS ARE $450US EACH AND EACH VEST NEEDS A FRONT AND BACK.    POPULAR QUESTION WOULD BE, HOW IS IT THAT THE IDF IS NOT SUPPLYING THIS LIFE SAVING EQUIPMENT TO OUR MILITARY.    THE ANSWERS THAT I HAVE BEEN GIVEN ARE THE FOLLOWING.
A.  THE COUNTRY IS OUT OF MONEY
B.  THE SECURITY PRIORITIES IN ISRAEL ARE DIVIDED UP INTO THREE.   FIRST PRIORITY IS THE NORTH OF ISRAEL WHICH IS DUE TO THE MOST SERIOUS CONFRONTATIONAL BORDER.   SECOND PRIORITY IS THE SOUTH.   MOST RECENT GAZA -CAST LEAD WAR.
THIRD PRIORITY IS CENTRAL ISRAEL IN WHICH THERE SEEMS TO BE A PSYCHOLOGICAL ACCEPTANCE FACTOR OF LIVING WITH AN EXSISTING ARAB NUISANCE (MY WORDS).
WE HAVE BEEN AT THIS JUNCTURE DURING THE EARLY STAGES OF THE FATEFUL OSLO ACCORDS AND WE ARE HERE AGAIN.
TORONTO COMMUNITY CAN RECEIVE CHARITABLE RECEIPTS BUT AT THIS TIME ALL I NEED IS A SHOW OF HANDS FOR THOSE WHO ARE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE.  ONCE WE HAVE COMMITTMENTS WE CAN ARRANGE TO GET CREDIT FROM THE SUPPLIER AND PAY THEM IN DUE TIME.    PLEASE PASS ON THIS MESSAGE TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILIES.

Update-Beit Chagai  Erev Shabbat  Parshat Shmini   17/04/09

This Friday morning at 6:30 an Arab, succeeded in infiltrating the community of Beit Chagai southwest  of Kiryat Arba. His presence was immediately detected, the Rapid Response Team was alerted and  he was quickly eliminated.

This mornings attack follows a recent pattern that has occurred quite frequently of late.
Fortunately, most of these attacks have failed, resulting in no one hearing about them. But,the attacks that result in injured and killed ( Bat Ayin,..) have made the news.

This pattern we are
referring to are individual Arabs with no "official"connection to any of the "terrorist organizations"and no financial resources, attacking any Jew ,anywhere ,anyhow, what the Shin- Bet describes as "random terror". This has manifested itself, over the last year in murder and attempted murder using bulldozers, tractors ,automobiles,  gardening and construction tools. Anything that can be used to cause bodily harm .

This situation, "random terror "is described by the government as something that lacks organization, cannot be foreseen, cannot be stopped and therefore something we must live with. Sound familiar, this is the same
explainition given for the ongoing rocketing of the Negev over the last eight years. It is now clear that this government intends to continue the policies of the previous Kadima gov..This gov. has Ehud Barak as defense minister who has over the last year viciously destroyed small community outposts as Yad Yair pulverizing a beit knesset and uprooting every last tree.

Those that believe there is some one to talk to,write to, appeal to are living in denial refusing to face the realities of our situation, ultimately doing nothing about it. The focus of our efforts, energies, resources must be towards doing battle on all fronts in order to ride out this next hellish wave until there is a real change in leadership, throughout.

Dear Fellow Activists for Eretz YISROEL - Atem Nitzavim - PLEASE FORWARD No to a "Palestinian State" in the Land of Israel!

bs"d

Dear Fellow Activist, amv"sh

If you are getting this email than there is a good chance that you are and have been a strong activist for Eretz Yisroel.  Please treat this email as if it is directed to you personally.  Each of us have considerable influence.

We would like to get 10,000 signatures of the letter linked below by Yom Haatzmaut and by the latest by Yom Yerushalayim and Yom Hebron.  It is addressed to the leadership of major Torah Jewish Organizations in America. If there are many signatures then Arutz7 will take notice and so will the Moetzet Gedolei Hatorah and the OU and all the major Jewish organizations that have influence over hundreds of thousands of caring Jews not only in America but throughout the world.

Our aim is to be Mezakeh the Rabim, unify the people to speak out for our entitlement of Eretz Yisroel.

This petition is not wishy washy.  It leaves no opening for the possibility of a Palestinian State even if there was a workable peace partner.  This petition is consistent with Hashem's desire for Eretz Yisroel and His expectations for Am Yisroel as His Chosen Nation.

Our message is that there is no place for a Palestinian State in G-d's Roadmap within the delineated boundaries of Eretz Yisroel in the Torah.

We as His Chosen people must clarify this point.  It is necessary not only for our own survival and well being but for the good of the entire world.

There are many who feel uncomfortable with the idea that we are the Chosen People.

We as Jews understand that the concept of being a Chosen People means responsibility and obligations vis a vis the rest of the world.  Our responsibility is to Glorify G-d's Honor and this can only happen when we abide by His will and observe His precepts and laws especially in the Land of Israel.

Lo Bashamayim Hi!  It is not in Heaven to DO IT as the Torah says.  Lo Meever Hayam.  It is not on the other side of the Ocean. It is not an impossible feat!  G-d expects it from us because it is doable.

PLEASE whether you are the Hebron Fund, Izzy Kaplan, National Union or Women in Green or just an Ima like myself or even a child, we have considerable influence.  This in not the time for misplaced humility. If one is in a position of influence one has a greater responsibility to influence more people.  No one is exempt.  SIGN THE LETTER and GET OTHERS TO DO SO AS WELL!  EACH INDIVIDUAL SIGNATURE IS A PRIVATE EXPRESSION OF OUR LOVE AND DEVOTION TO ERETZ YISROEL AND OUR ACCEPTANCE OF HASHEM"S PRECIOUS GIFT TO US!

A simple expression of support for our entitlement to Yad Yair, an outpost in the Shomron or Shdema in Judea is an expression of our entitlement of Eretz Yisroel.   It establishes facts on the ground that will counter  the present facts on the ground.  Illegal Arab construction is happening at an alarming rate with the influx of millions if not billions of dollars into Judea and Samaria coming from USAID, the European Union or Saudi Arabia etc.  Extensive illegal Arab construction is currently underway especially near the partition wall being built by the government of Israel.  It is no secret that this wall is intended to demarcate "Palestine" from Israel.

Practically, the entire Israel is within rocket range of these new intended boundaries G-d forbid.

Please do not delay. Speak out before it is too late Chas Vechalila!

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for all that you do for Eretz Yisroel.

Hashem Oz LeAmo Yiten Hashem Yevarech as Amo Bashalom!

(Hashem should give strength to His people and Bless His nation with Peace!)

SHAVUA TOV!

Please feel free to pass this letter around.

SPEAK OUT! YAD YAIR YES ! NO Palestinian State! Yes to our entitlement of Eretz Yisroel

bs"d

This may seem like a small matter, a minor outpost.  But those that see the big picture recognize that this is a major battle for our entitlement of all of Eretz Yisroel.  The government got away with closing Beit Hashalom and destroying the Federman House and harassing settlers in Asael etc. Had Am Yisroel united to protest the government's actions in destroying Yad Yair 18 years ago or similar scenarios, perhaps the other incitements against Yishuv Haaretz and the settlers would not have escalated.

But it is not too late.  We must come out in force, Hamonei Am, Hebron and all the Yishuvim in YESHA, All caring ;Jews throught the Diaspora  in speaking out for our entitlement of Yad Yair and insist on reopening the road to the Yishuv.  We must support the building of all settlement in Eretz Yisroel be it Shdema, Beit Knesset Chazon David near the entrance to Kiryat Arba,  and the building of Eretz Yisroel enterprise  in defiance to the present day Pharoh, Obama and company who insist on the legitimacy of the formation of a Palestinian State. Our claim to the Land of Israel is mutually exculsive to Arab entitlement.  They are the occupiers!

Nadia Matar told a group in New York that when we stop something when it is a small matter than we prevent a much larger problem.  Now is the time!

Give support to Land of Israel Loyalists, Women in Green, Give support to Rav Shimondorfi and his Chareidi Yeshiva Nachliel that helped settle Yad Yair that is being supported by a sister organization of Yad Ezra and all those that believe that Eretz Yisroel is our gift from Hashem.

If you are Agudah or Sephardi please don't rely on Moetzes Gedolei Hatorh to speak out for Torah when it comes to Yishuv Haaretz. Shas and UTJ do not speak for Torah.  They have been political considerations that blind them from speaking Torah truths.

These settlers are authentic and represent Torah.

Yaakov Katz of Ichud Leumi seems to represent an authentic Torah position.

1. Marchers Test Netanyahu: Will He Let Us Rebuild Yad Ya'ir?

by Hillel Fendel

Hundreds of people have begun a Passover holiday march to Yad Ya'ir, an 18-year-old neighborhood that was destroyed seven months ago by the Olmert-Barak government.

At 4 PM, a major event will be held at Yad Ya'ir, near Dolev in the Binyamin region of southern Samaria.  Public figures including rabbis and Knesset Members will be in attendance. Monday is the 18th anniversary of the establishment of Yad Ya'ir, marking the murder of Dolev resident Ya'ir Mendelson by Arab terrorists.

March to Resettle
The area, which is owned by Jews, had been torched and vandalized by local Arabs several times before IDF Division Commander Brig.-Gen. Noam Tivon ordered the town's destruction last September. The marchers say they are paving the way for Jews to resettle the sight.

It took the IDF two days to demolish the tiny town.  The army first arrived with a force of soldiers and demolition equipment, but called off its plans when it understood the size of the crowd standing ready to protect the town - some 300 Jews from the nearby Jewish towns of Dolev, Talmon, Neriah and others. Two days later, the army arrived in larger numbers and did the deed - even though word of a Supreme Court ruling to delay the action until 4 PM that day had already been received.

The army later claimed that the fax machine didn't work and that the order was not received until it was too late.

Test for the Netanyahu Gov't
"We still hope to return," a former resident stated recently.  Monday's marchers are hoping to lay the groundwork for just such a return.  "We have not given up on Yad Ya'ir," organizers of the march said, "and we plan to return and settle the area once again.  This will be a major test of the Netanyahu government, to see if it puts an end to the leftist policies that allowed unrestrained illegal Arab construction while forbidding Jews to build legally."

Meir Goldmintz, a long-time resident of Yad Ya'ir, told the story of its establishment in memory of a terrorist victim, its abandonment by the army, the Arab vandalism it suffered, and its ultimate destruction by Israeli forces – despite ongoing negotiations for its peaceful relocation.

Shortly before Passover 1991, after Dolev resident Yair Mendelson was murdered, his neighbors wished to establish a community on the site of the murder, in keeping with the tradition of "a proper Zionist response." However, then-Defense Minister Moshe Arens of the Likud refused. After a protracted struggle, it was decided to establish a military base there.

Building the Site
"Over the years," Goldmintz said, "a park was also built there, on lands that were purchased from their Arab owners.  For years, the Yad Yair group worked on building up a vibrant Jewish presence there: prayers, Torah classes, activities.  A monument to Yair was erected, as were a playground for children, a plaza, and a synagogue.  Cakes and other foodstuffs were given out to soldiers on Purim and other occasions, we lit Chanukah candles there, and more.  The high point was our yearly springtime event, in which hundreds of people would take part."

The army abandoned the site circa 2004, Goldmintz said: "Thus began a period of constant Arab vandalism, which the army did not 'succeed' in preventing.  Over the course of time, the electric grid was destroyed, the synagogue was looted, the monument was defaced, and the synagogue was set ablaze no fewer than three times."

"Finally, we realized that we would have to do something, and we decided to actualize our right to the land - and start our own town there.  We [finally did this] after a group of leftists and Arabs arrived on the scene, set fire to the synagogue, and even replaced the Israeli flags with PLO flags...

"In response, our family [Meir, his wife Chana and four children] moved to the site, together with a group of students from Yeshivat Nachliel.  It required great self-sacrifice, as well as financial resources. The yeshiva helped out and held classes there, and nearby communities helped with fuel for the generator, guards, food for the yeshiva students, etc.  But we still had to deal with problems such as minimal housing conditions, getting back and forth to work and school, etc.

"We lived in a container of only 12 square meters (120 square feet), without showers and with no room for furniture; we left the refrigerator and table outside.  Every night we would spread out the mattresses on the floor, and in the morning we would pile them up again."

Meir said that most of the army officers recognized the importance of the location, "and they sent frequent patrols, and even held exercises there.  Don't forget, it's only 100 meters from the outlying homes of Ramallah..."

One of the hardships the family faced was travelling 20 minutes back and forth to their home community of Haresha, "for showers, laundry, and even for the children to be with friends."

Illegal Destruction
The actual destruction of this budding Jewish neighborhood - four buildings and two more under construction - "was also illegal," Meir said, "in that a person may not be forcibly removed from his residence if he has been living there for 30 days, without a legal hearing beforehand.  In addition, they ignored the Supreme Court ruling ordering them to delay the demolition."

Dolev and Yad Yair are located just a few minutes' drive away from Beit El and other eastern Binyamin towns – but the trip now takes about an hour.  This, due to the closing of the road linking them several years ago, because of security considerations. Children who learned in Beit El and workers with jobs in eastern Binyamin were forced to change their lives when access to these areas was abruptly cut off.  The women of MachsomWatch raised no uproar at the "harm to the quality of life" of the Jewish pioneers.

mor on SALE of Kippot - Givat Gal- Letter from Rachel Hacohen and Pictures of converted bus תמונות שכונת גל

bs"d

This family is certainly worthy of an Extreme Makeover Home Edition!  Does anyone know if there is an Israeli version of Extreme Makeover Home Edition?  This home certainly deserves a nomination!

Any ideas of serious fundraising is most welcome!

Pictures of Givat Gal

The pictures include the Hacohen's kitchen, bedroom, bathroom all converted from this one bus. AMAZING!

Letter from Rachel Hacohen

We, the HaCohen family, have been living on Givat Gal for almost 5 years. Prior to arriving here from Beit El, we had lived in a private home with our 9 children.   My husband worked full-time, as well as my having provided infant daycare. However, our idea and ideal was to establish a new settlement for the sake of Am Yisrael, in Eretz Yisrael. When the opportunity arose, we chose not to live in the established community of Kiryat Arba but rather to outfit and live in an old city bus by ourselves, with our 9 children, on an uninhabited hilltop, adjacent and overlooking Kiryat Arba-Hevron.  At present, B"H, we are already 5 families living on the hillside known as Givat Gal, with 2 families in permanent homes, 1 building anew,  2 caravans and ourselves, with our ultimate goal being, to be one of the new neighborhoods of Kiryat Arba.

Our family situation is such that my husband has only part-time work, based on the local economy and his recent eye surgery which prevented him from working for the last 1/2 year. He is now gradually returning to his work. Due to our location outside the Kirya, it has not been possible to duplicate the daycare that I provided in Beit El here, as we are distant from the central area of town. In the meantime, I knit kippot to sell to our occasional visitors, as well as those who wish to support the development of our hill and future community.

Our home has expanded from 9 children to 11, and from the bus, to include 3 shipping containers. We have modified them to serve as our living area, as well as a temporary Beit Knesset/Beit Medrash for the families here and a center of activity for our supporters from the Kirya. At present we want to continue work on our house, to give it some semblance and appearance of a normal home. One of the rooms that still cannot be used other than for storage, needs to be rebuilt for living quarters, as well as other basic improvements. Due to our lack of funds though, much of this has been put aside. In the past year we have also begun to establish a goat herd for milk production, as well as a chicken coop. While they are off to a good start, they will require at least another couple of years before seeing a return on the effort invested and will need continued outlay until then. We also have plans for the planting of trees and flowers and have established a playground on Givat Gal. Still needed at this time, we wish to install a lighting system for the entire neighborhood, pave the access road to Gal, and build a permanent Beit Knesset, which would also allow the area in our house to be used for living space.

We certainly appreciate any support for our pioneering efforts, and are happy we can offer you a chance to partner with us in the building of Eretz Yisrael.

Obama's Muslim Outreach

By Ted Belman

One year ago I wrote about Obama's Muslim connection. No matter how strong this connection was, the main stream media and ultimately Jewish Americans ignored it.

"The person who made me proudest of all," Obama wrote, "was Roy. Actually, now we call him Abongo, his Luo name, for two years ago he decided to reassert his African heritage. He converted to Islam, and has sworn off pork and tobacco and alcohol."

On February 27th, Barack Hussein Obama said the Muslim call to prayer is "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth."

Although Obama played he Christian card while campaigning, he is playing the Muslim card now in such a blatant fashion that even I am astounded.

Here is his record to date after inaugeration,

- Obama's first call was to Mahmoud Abbas who is not even a head of state. Obama was delivering a message to Israel and the world.

- Obama's first interview, within days of inaugeration, was with the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya Networks In it her stressed his own Muslim ties and his hopes for a Palestinian state. His message was "U.S. not your enemy"

"And as I said during my inauguration speech, if countries like Iran are willing to unclench their fist, they will find an extended hand from us,"

- on Febuary 10th, Obama ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in migration assistance to the Palestinian refugees and conflict victims in Gaza.

- In February, he pledged to provide $900 million in aid for rebuilding the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip

- On March 19th Obama delivered to customary speech to the Iranian people on their New Year but sold them out by referring to the Islamic Republic of Iran which amounted to an acceptance of the regime.

- Obama has been reaching out to Syria for some time now but in the last two months he has matched words with deeds, He has lifted sanctions on Syria and intends to meet personally with Assad hereby bringing him in from the cold. He wants to see if Syria is serious about peace, which means breaking from Iran, in which case he will force Israel to give up the Golan.

- Obama has also been calling Erdogan and Gull in Turkey looking to imrpove relations with Turkey. He praised Erdogan for his efforts at peace making between Syria and Israel and wants him to continue. He is looking to Turkey to help with Iran and Afghanistan and to permit US forces to exit Iraq throught Turkey.

Essentially this outreach is intended to upgrade the relationship between the US and the Muslim world which will necessitate downgrading the relationship with Israel.

For decades now this is what the State Department has wanted but couldn't say so publically. As I pointed out in Give the Palestinians what they want or else , there is a coordinated attack under way to bring about the downgrading of the US/Israel relationship.

In the last few weeks, I posted many articles which made this point. Here are two.

The West is tiring of Israel

'I have every reason to believe, based on what I've seen at my level of clearance especially over the last several years, that Israel will soon be completely on their own… or worse.' When asked what could be worse than losing the support of the United States, he stated: 'when our administration provides more support to Arab countries financial and military aid, undercutting Israel's defense efforts all while pushing Israel to succumb to the pressure of unreasonable demands designed to end with their political annihilation as a nation.'

CIA report: Israel will fall in 20 years

The CIA report predicts "an inexorable movement away from a two-state to a one-state solution, as the most viable model based on democratic principles of full equality that sheds the looming specter of colonial Apartheid while allowing for the return of the 1947/1948 and 1967 refugees. The latter being the precondition for sustainable peace in the region."

These are only a few of the articles published since Obama's inaugeration which provide the handwriting on the wall. The core issue that the West is now recognizing is that given the emnity of the Arabs to the state of Israel, the Sate of Israel is doomed and shouldn't be supported to the detriment of the US.

Debka reported this week,

Obama set to betray Israel, big time Mar 29th
DEBKAfile's Washington sources report that the Obama administration is on the threshold of a major rapprochement with Tehran, a reversal of US policy dramatic enough to block out international sanctions. Iran will be allowed to keep its nuclear program, including military elements and enriched uranium stocks, up to the point of actually assembling a weapon.

The US president is willing to ditch Israel as a friend. This will be brought home to Jerusalem when he makes his big speech on April 7 appealing for a grand US-Muslim global reconciliation. The US president is preparing to tie a Palestinian-Israeli settlement - on Washington's terms - to such unrelated issues as Afghanistan and Pakistan as the currency for purchasing Muslim and Arab backing for accommodations of these outstanding terrorist fronts.

To lend wings to Obama's outreach to the Muslims, White House circles Monday, March 30, leaked word that his team took a hand in persuading Israel to accept a ceasefire which cut short its anti-Hamas operation in Gaza in January. The radical Islamist terrorists had to be spared from total defeat by Israel and their leaders from capture otherwise Assad, as their backer, would be restrained from resuming peace talks with Israel for some time.

The ceasefire gave Assad enough political room to continue the negotiations without losing credibility in the Arab world.

Its not going to get better.

MY COMMENTS

Antisemitism and world opinion against Israel is advancing at an alarming rate. America is no different!

We must pray that we are worthy of Hashem's protection.Sof Davar Hakol Nishma, Es Haelokim Lira Vees Mitzvosav Tishmor....We must fear only G-d and speak out for the Emes and the Torah.  Everything else in Hevel, zero! This translates into speaking out strongly and forcefully AGAINST a Palestinian State and do whatever we can to voice entitlement and support for Jewish settlement in ALL of Eretz Yisroel especially in Judea and Samaria and Gaza.  Any act of aggression against even one family or one home in Judea and Samaria is a provocation and an act of aggression upon the entire settlement enterprise and should be answered with unity of the National Camp and the force it brings when they are unified.

All other calculations and deliberations are worthless and meaningless and G-d does not accept bribery even in the form of
  • releasing Gilat Shalit in exchange of releasing terrorists or
  • promises of Torah educational subsidies or child allowances in return for joining with the government and not speaking out against a Palestinian State
  • promise of a choice political cabinet position in exchange for being part of the government and a willingness to give away or not protest giving away parts of EY
  • providing permanent housing or land permits for former Gush Katif expellees or residents of Hebron, Judea and Samaria or East Jerusalem in exchange for their preoccupation with being finally able to have  permanant housing and their unwillingness to risk it being taken away, thereby effectively silencing them into not joining with their brothers in Judea and Samaria in protesting government dismantling of small outposts.
  • dangling pending permits of permanent housing solutions to finally put an end to  intolerable living conditions thereby creating a situation where the intended recipient of such benevolence on the part ofo the gov't is afraid of endangering and losing this golden opportunity and will refrain with being involved in a protest of a small outpost destruction until the final deal of his permanent housing is actualized.
When all these tactics of "rewarding" those that did not join in unified protests fails, and attempts to conquer and divide the National Camp is not effective enough, then the government must resort to harsher methods such as outward physical intimidation such Yassam Police, clubs, riot horses and gear, incarceration and destruction of settler property etc.   Even sometimes more painful then the physical intimidation  is destroying the integrity and slandering the settlers via lies, distortions and libels etc. to paint the settlers as lawless criminals who disregard the law of the land and have contempt of the judiciary, and   as individuals who wish to take the law into their own hands and would murder, kidnap and loot the Arabs as they see fit.

There is no real freedom of speech for the settlers since the media is owned by those who have a different agenda with lots of money coming from the left. The media is controlled by the left.

Yet do those that agree with the government's position against the settlers and the dismantling of the outposts ever question the moral justification of the 13 colonists to rebel against Britain for intolerable acts?

Do the Bill of Rights including the right to bear arms only apply to the Palestinians and their so called security personnel who openly teach their children hatred and to be rid of Israel but are being denied to the settlers whose prime desire is to live and settle the Land and be a light onto the Nations?

Jews are unable to walk freely in Arab populated towns w/o being iin fear for their lives while the Arabs who educate their children in Jihad roam freely w/o fear in Israeli populated towns.  In such a situation, why is insisting on accepting Jewish Sovereignty so problematic?

Why can the Arabs proclaim that this is a religious War for Allah against the Israeli occupiers and the Jews that proudly quote the Torah and the Covenant with our forefathers are labeled as religious fanatics and extremists.

Why can all religions pray on Temple Mount except the Jewish Religion?

The government knows who is desperate since they created the situation. Their strategy has been to take those that they have made desperate and then buys their Silence by offering them a bone of some form of relief of their intolerable conditions.

Yehudit Katsover told the Afsi crowd in her recent visit to NY that Tzvi Katzover as Mayor of Kiryat Arba was offered over hundred new housing units permits in Kiryat Arba in return for seeing to it that Chazon Daavid synagogue would not be rebuilt. This offer follows a freeze of  housing and building expansion in the settlements.  Chazon David, a shul placed near the entrace of Kiryat Arba in response to a terror attack, was built and rebuilt at least 33 times after having been consistently torn down and destroyed by the police.  It was clearly an embarrassment for the gov't of Israel to the likes of Condeleeza Rice or Hillary CLinton who see this shul, or even a vision of this shul as a stumbling block of the "peace process".

But to his credit, Mayor Katzover refused to accept these conditions.. Tzvi Katzover knows that if we agree to such terms, it won't be long before the newly added additions to Kiryat Arba will also chas veshalom be in danger because unless we continue to assert our entitlement to all of Eretz Yisroel, and our rights to build and settle in all of Eretz Yisroel, then it is just a matter of time until the existing settlement in Eretz Yisroel, be it Ben Gurion airport, Rechovot, Tel Aviv, or Jewish population in Flatbush or Boro Park will be put into serious danger as well.

Exclusive, FOR SALE in Flatbush: Beautiful, handmade crocheted ladies hats and men's/boys crocheted Kippot, excellent for sports and camp since they don't fall off the head, hand crocheted by Rachel Hacohen of Shechunat Gal in back of industrial park

bs"d

To my Dear Friends, amv"sh

Do You Admire the Settlers, aka the Mitnachalim?

Ladies, here is your chance to publicly express solidarity with our brethren in the Yishuvim in Yehuda and the Shomron by buying and wearing a versatile, handmade, beautiful and colorful, crocheted hat by Rachel Hacohen. Rachel Hacohen is a courageous mother of 11 bli ayin hara, living on a hilltop called Shechunat Gal, with her husband and 11 children bli ayin hara.

In July 2006, the following description (slightly edited) of their home in Shechunat Gal was taken from Jonathan Stein's live journal July 14-15 Shabbat 2006. http://msstein24.livejournal.com/30225.html

Shechunat Gal, is a hilltop overlooking the Driben farm. One structure was very unique - it is a house made of an old bus, shipping container, and industrial caravan. The living room can be converted into a shul, the walls are painted by Mrs. Driben from the farm, but the coolest part by far is the kids bus - there is a kitchen area, a bunch of little beds, and a bathroom in the front of the bus, where the toilet seat is opposite the steering wheel so the kids can pretend to drive while on the toilet.

The Hacohen family came to this hilltop when the army was stationed there in 2005. When they came, their accommodations were, yes this is really true, a converted bus. I would certainly nominate them to Extreme Makeover if such a thing existed in Israel. Rachel Hacohen is a courageous mother of 11 bli ayin hara, now living on the hilltop together with a handful of other families. But in 2005 they were the only family living there. I personally can vouch to this because circumstances had me visit their home in 2005 before the disengagement. I have an apt in Kiryat Arba and wanted to redo my bathroom. I asked my contractor, Benny, to show me some sample tiles. So he drove me to the Hacohen's home where he was doing some work to "show me some tiles". Benny my contractor was trying to help make it livable and perhaps gave me this tour because he thought I could help raise funds for them. Understandably, I was in shock especially since I had thought I was going to merely "look at tiles".

The bus was extended interestingly as described above to accommodate their large family and the physical conditions left much to be desired as the conditions in the harsh winters were not for the feint hearted. In 2005 and for the year following, members of the Kiryat Arba community met there regularly for shiurum to give the Hacohen's chizuk. According to long time resident Mrs. Zelda Horowitz, wife of Rabbi Shalom Horowitz Rachel Hacohen is a true lover of Eretz Yisroel who always kept her sweet smile and disposition, had the nicest kids and persevered in spite of her family living under a tin roof and being exposed to the elements, Recently her husband underwent an eye operation.

One week ago, my daughter studying in Kiryat Motzkin received from Rachel Hacohen's parents from Kiryat Ata nearby,15 women crocheted hats and 20 boys hand crocheted kippot that Rochel Hacohen personally crocheted and it is truly my honor to personally purchase my very own crocheted hat. My 11 year old son feels really special and cool with his newly purchased settler's kippa and is looking forward to wearing it especially in the gym.

I feel it is a special honor as well to sell these special handmade kippot.

It's first come first serve! I am selling the Ladies crocheted hats for $25 and the men's/boys Kippot for $15 each. Iti's a great price for a beautiful hand crocheted item especially since the handiwork is of a true Eishis Chayil, a true Jewish heroine, pioneer and proud settler of the Land of Israel.

Regarding the boys kippot I hear you commenting, "This is not the black velvet style yarmulke typical for Boro Park and Flatbush?

QUITE THE OPPOSITE dear friends. IT"S the latest of styles regarding boys fashion especially while playing sports. It's a cool look and this yarmulka will stay on your husband's or sons head even when he is in the heat of a game on the basketball court. Also it will make him feel as if he is in Judea and Samaria, a real pioneer out in the frontier in the heart of Israel..

Call in your orders before the supply disappears! Custom made Kippot can be put on order as well. Let's get some hard earned money back to Rachel so that she can help support her family.

Get your hat or kippa now while the supplies last!

FROM THE DESK OF

BARBARA GINSBERG

"K A H A N E"

The magazine of the authentic Jewish Idea

Nissan -5749   April-1989

D I V R E I  T O R A H

THE GREAT SABBATH

It is the necessary, the indispensable preface and introduction to Passover.  It is the explanation that cries out the ultimate message of the holiday, the basic lesson of the feats of our freedom.  It is the foundation of foundations that raises Passover from an insipid, saccharine social custom beginning and ending with recipes printed in the New York Times women's section; from a golden opportunity for Manischewitz to return to Jewishness through capitalist Passover profits even as the truly frum, raise their level of religiosity by raising the level of prices; from a Jewish people that marches on its Seder stomach even as it moves on to the annual national lie. "Next Year in Jerusalem."  It is the Great Sabbath, which attempts to save Judaism from myopic ritualism, to make the Jew, Jewish and the Orthodox, religious.

Sabbath Hagadol, the great Sabbath.  The Sabbath preceding the Passover, the Sabbath that cries out the basic, the ultimate message of the enormous Exodus from Egypt, of Passover itself.  Sabbath Hagadol that gives us the lesson without which Passover, the Jewish people itself, lose all reason for being.  Sabbath Hagadol commemorating the basic lesson of Judaism: Faith, real faith, faith in G-d who really is greater than the mighty Pharaoh, or the regal Reagan of the burningless Bush – Sabbath Hagadol. The great Sabbath, that began more than 3,000 years ago on a Sabbath in Imperial Egypt.

"Speak unto all the congregation of Israel, saying: In the tenth day of this month, they shall take to them every man a lamb…"

It is a special, an awesome commandment, one that is given to every Jew, hence the unique words "Speak unto all the congregation."  Take a lamb and bind it up for four days.

You believe that this is a simple commandment.  Hardly.  The lamb is more than an animal; it is the very god of Egypt.  It is a deity, a hallowed creature before whom the Egyptian bows and whose meat dare not touch his mouth.  And the Jews, "every man" thereof, are commanded to take this lamb, this Egyptian god, the deity of their masters, and tie it to their beds, to their posts, bind it up.  And when the astonished and outraged Egyptian masters will ask: "What are you doing? The answer shall be: We shall soon slaughter this lamb, the deity, your god, and eat it.

Do you still think this is a simple, bland commandment?  It is a commandment fraught with danger to life, a commandment that surely sent fear down the spines of the Jewish slaves, that, without a doubt, led scholars to rush and ponder whether pikuach nefesh, danger to life might perhaps demand the postponing of the dangerous commandment…

Nor does the Almighty stop there.  He insists on a policy of extremism, of goading the gentile.  Not content with a commandment that cries desecration of the Egyptian god, that taunts him with the sight of his deity bound up, the G-d of Israel insists that the Jew add salt to the wound.

"And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roasted with fire… eat it not partially cooked, nor boiled in water, but roasted with fire, its head with its legs and with its insides complete."

Awake and consider!  This is what Passover is all about; only this! This is Judaism what Judaism is all about; only this!  This is what the duty and the role and the essence of the Jew is all about; only this!  To affirm to the world, but first to ourselves that the L-rd, the G-d of Israel, is.  That He truly does exist, that He is the One, the only One, that He, only He, directs the world, the fate of man, the destiny of His people.  That whatever will be for the Jew will be only because He so decrees.  That the gentile has no relevance to the Jewish fate, that the Pharaohs of all time, the ones in Egypt and the ones in Washington are utterly irrelevant to what will be with the Jew.

On the Great Sabbath in Egypt, the L-rd taught us the lesson that we trampled in the dust, the dust of secularism and the dust of the yeshiva world alike: The lesson that the Jew must raise high, must flaunt the glory and Omnipotence of his G-d.  That the world must be compelled to see their deities, their gods and idols, bound up and humiliated and destroyed.  That one must goad the gentile in order to raise high the banner of the L-rd.  That Kiddush Hashem, the sanctification of the Name of the G-d of Israel, demands an open, fearless, flaunting sacrifice of the idols and deities of the gentiles that deny the uniqueness of the G-d of Israel, His exclusiveness, His Oneness!  The lamb is openly tied and those who tremble and whisper: "But we dare not goad the gentile," are silenced with thunderous contempt.  The lamb is slaughtered and roasted whole and fully and openly.  It cannot be hastily covered in a pot where it will not be seen.  Its identity cannot be disguised by cutting its body into pieces.  We cannot escape the danger of the gentile by avoiding confronting and goading him.  No.  Precisely the opposite!

The same gentile who thundered and thunders: "Who is the L-rd?  I know not the L-rd and will not let Israel go!" must be taught the eternal lesson of: "The L-rd is G-d, the L-rd is G-d!"  The gentile does not wish to "know" G-d, to acknowledge His exclusive kingship.  He must be taught that lesson in an open and bold and humiliating way.  He and his idols must be humbled and broken.  The lamb is taken openly.  The lamb is slaughtered openly.   And those who cringe in populism and whisper:  "But one dare not goad the gentiles…" are silenced by the thunder of the L-rd, whose commandment is eternalized by the Rabbis of the Great Sabbath, Sabbath Hagadol.  So, let that Sabbath be understood and appreciated and embraced.  For without it, there cannot be a Passover, an understanding of what that Passover really is.  And without that, when the Jewish child asks for the meaning of this night, the pathetic father who knows not what to tell him will doom his child to become a pathetic as he: practitioner of Jewish ritual, but never, never a religious Jews.

IDF Chief snubbed in Washington - a message to Israel
Lieutenant Colonel Rick Francona U.S. Air Force (Retired) March 25,
2009
http://francona.blogspot.com:80/2009/03/idf-chief-snubbed-in-washington-message.html

The Israel Defense Forces chief of staff, Lieutenant General Gabi
Ashkenazi,
visited Washington, DC, last week to meet with senior American
officials to
discuss what Israel believes is the growing Iranian threat to his
country.
In light of President Obama's attempts to reach out to the mullahs in
Tehran - the most recent a Nowruz (Persian new year) video message -
the IDF
chief brought new intelligence on Iran's nuclear and missile programs.

Both American and Israeli intelligence establishments believe that Iran
is
intent on developing nuclear weapons. The difference between the two
assessments is how soon Iran will achieve that capability. The Israelis

believe the Iranians are on the verge of developing a nuclear warhead
for
its ballistic missiles - missiles that can easily reach anywhere in
Israel.

Press reports described Ashkenazi's reception in Washington as
"extraordinarily cool" - he did not meet with any of the Obama Cabinet,

including Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. He also was unable to
schedule
a meeting with his counterpart, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Admiral Mike Mullen. Add to that list Director of National Intelligence

Admiral Dennis Blair.

This is almost unheard of. The United States and Israel have close
military
and intelligence ties. It is quite normal for the IDF chief to meet
with
defense and intelligence officers. Keep in mind that in Israel, the
defense
establishment is the senior intelligence authority, making Ashkenazi
not
only Admiral Mullen's counterpart, but Admiral Blair's as well.
Meetings
such as those that did not happen are commonplace, at least they were.

What has changed? Obviously, we have a new administration whose foreign

policy is somewhat changed. The unavailability of virtually any senior

official is telling. This administration appears to have determined
that
forging a new relationship with Iran may come at the expense of the
close
relationship with Israel that goes back decades.

The only meeting with a senior American official was with National
Security
Advisor General James Jones. However, the meeting was focused on U.S.
demands that Israel lift some military restrictions on the West Bank
and in
the Gaza Strip. Jones was not there to listen to anything about what
Israeli
leaders considers an "existential" threat to the Jewish state.

The IDF spokesman tried to soften the blow with this emailed
explanation,
"The schedule for the United States visit of the IDF Chief of the
General
Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, was preplanned according to requests
made by
American officials. Any meetings that were canceled were substituted
with
telephone conference calls." An IDF internet site claimed that
Ashkenazi
returned to Israel to participate in talks revolving around the
negotiations
for captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

Conference calls? I'm not buying it. This treatment of General
Ashkenazi is
a not-so-subtle message to the Israelis: the situation has changed and
you
may be on your own in dealing with the Iranians.

How else can the Israelis interpret it? Obama has made several
overtures to
the Iranians - a terrorist country (unless you ask Janet Napolitano,
then it
is a "state sponsor of human-caused disasters") according to the State

Department - all of which have been rebuffed. Obama advisors are urging
the
President to talk to not only the Taliban (a terrorist organization),
but
also Hizballah and Hamas (also terrorist organizations). As one analyst

(that would be me) puts it, "We are trying to talk to the exact people
we
should be trying to kill."

Rather than dissuading the Israelis from a military strike on Iran's
nuclear
facilities, the Obama Administration's refusal to talk to senior
Israeli
military and intelligence officials may actually hasten the action they
seek
to stop. If Israel cannot get some assurance of support from the United

States, it will feel compelled to act unilaterally.

Mr. President, you are talking to the wrong people.
