    Tuesday, September 9th-  7:30pm  - AFSI's first meeting of the fall season, again at the home of AFSI Chairman Mark Langfan, will feature Matan Peleg CEO, and Doug Altabef, Board member, of Im Tirtzu. Im Tirtzu's main objectives focus on working towards a renewal of the Zionist discourse, Zionist thinking and Zionist ideology. A major portion of Im Tirtzu's efforts is devoted to combating the campaign of de-legitimization against the State of Israel and to providing responses to Post-Zionist and Anti-Zionist phenomena. 
    Yuval Granot, son of AFSI's founder Shmuel Katz, will be an added guest speaker. You may remember he was denied a visa in time to be with us at the Ze'ev Jabotinsky memorial on August 12. He now has a visa and is making a special trip to meet AFSI's members.

The Met is scheduled to present the anti-Semitic and pro-terrorist opera, "The Death of Klinghoffer", which tells the story of the PLO murder of an elderly Jewish man in 1985. To date, Met director Peter Gelb has refused to cancel the opera despite strong opposition. All who object to terror should call Peter Gelb at 212-799-3100 x 2891 to insist that he cancel the opera.     • TONIGHT through Monday, Sept. 1 - Lincoln Center Outdoor Free HD Opera - 6- 8 PM A coalition of concerned groups and citizens has been working all summer to persuade managing director of the Metropolitan Opera, Peter Gelb (212-799-3100x2891) to cancel the scheduled performances of the pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic opera, "The Death of Klinghoffer."  The PLO murder of Klinghoffer in 1985 because he was a Jew,  has now spread to a wave of anti-Semitism across Europe and the Middle East. The PLO terrorism has grown into Hamas, ISIS, and a host of terrorist organizations, so that we witness the beheading of an American by ISIS and the Islamic threat to bring that terrorism to America. In the face of that,  how can Peter Gelb ask us to attend an opera that promotes anti-Semitism and "sympathy for the terrorists"? Are we to "consider their humanity" when they cold-bloodedly sacrifice human beings on the altar of their fanatical beliefs? Please join with AFSI, ZOA, JCC Watch and all concerned citizens in distributing leaflets and flyers decrying this opera.     • UNRWA and Hamas: The IDF has previously provided video evidence that Hamas fires rockets from inside schools and it is also known that Hamas has also been using UNRWA schools as storage sites for its rockets. For the third time in recent days, such a stockpile was discovered in a UN school Tuesday. Three IDF soldiers killed when explosives detonated within a booby-trapped UN building in Gaza. Back in 1983, when Israel still ruled Gaza, they built a secure underground operating room and tunnel network beneath Shifa hospital—which is one among several reasons why Israeli security sources are so sure that there is a main Hamas command bunker in or around the large cement basement beneath the area of Building 2 of the Hospital, which reporters are obviously prohibited from entering. 
    • Arlene Kuschner writes: UNRWA is blatantly complicit, no matter what mask they don as a humanitarian agency that only takes care of poor "Palestinian refugees." I have alluded before to my research on UNRWA and its relationship with Hamas, done for the Center for Near East Policy Research.  What was crystal clear when I did that research was that UNRWA was in bed with Hamas. So much was this the case that Hamas controlled the UNRWA schools in Gaza – with recruitment for Hamas going on in the high schools, and ceremonies to mark the "martyrdom" of Hamas terrorists held on UNRWA school grounds. Now UNRWA schools in Gaza are in the news. Three times in this war, UNRWA officials have found rockets hidden in their schools. Declaring themselves totally bewildered as to how they got there, UNRWA official then returned them to Hamas. ~~~~~~~~~~More pertinently, there have been a handful of incidents in which UNRWA schools were hit, or people using UNRWA schools were killed or wounded.  It goes without saying that a cry goes up each time, charging that the IDF shoots at schools and kills innocent people inside those schools.  In each instance the IDF has investigated.  Once, it was found that Israel hit only an empty building, in another case that Hamas mortars were involved.

    I hear your point about the pigs.....Of course killing a poor pig for a terrorist makes no sense.  If there was a dead pig then threatening to kill known terrorists and burying them with the pig's carcass as a deterrent makes sense.  I have read that for them being buried with a pig means that they won't get rewarded in the Afterworld with  70 virgins. If that is true, then there is no point in doing jihad if they can't get a reward in the afterlife. 

     I think that they need to see that there is no tangible benefit from acts of terror in this world as well.

    Till now  
    1. they got a salary, (the harsher the sentence, the greater the act of terror,  the better the pay.) Families of terrorists are rewarded monetarily as well if they succeeded and this in turn would encourage their family members to acts of Jihad
    2.  they got room and board in Israeli jail (none of the released terrorist looked like they were malnourished 
    3. they got education in jail,  either an actual degree and/or an education how to be a better more sophisticated terrorist and
    4. they were considered heroes and their families were considered heroes

    Hamas as an organization doesn't care about it's people but not getting rewarded for terror and in fact getting one's true reward of getting pay back for terror is a deterrent.....

    A soldier on the border writes: What's happening here in the staging area [area where soldiers prepare to enter Gaza] is beyond comprehension, not rationally, not emotionally and begs the imagination. Almost every hour a car shows up overflowing with food, snacks, cold drinks, socks, underwear, undershirts, hygiene supplies, wipes, cigarettes, backgammon and more. They're coming from the North and the Center, from manufacturers, from companies and private businesses, from prisons, Chareidim and Settlers, from Tel Aviv and even Saviyon.

    Every intersection on the way down here we get stopped, not by the police, but be residents giving out food. What is amazing is that the entire situation wasn't organized and everyone is coming on their own without coordination between the folks coming. They're writing letters and blessings, how they're thinking of us all the time. There are those who spent hours making sandwiches, so they're as perfect and comforting as possible. Of course representatives of Chabad are here to help soldiers put on Tefillin and distributing Cha'Ta'Ts (Chumash, Tehillim, Tanya) for every troop transport and Breslov are showing up to the border and dancing with the soldiers with great joy.
    The Chareidim are coming from their yeshivot to ask the names of the soldiers with their mothers' names so that the whole yeshiva can pray for them. It should be mentioned that all of this is done under the threat of the terrorist tunnels and rockets in the area. Soroka Hospital (in Be'er Sheva) today looks like a 5 star hotel. A wounded friend who was recently discharged told us how the MasterChef truck is parked outside and is preparing food for the wounded. It goes without saying the amount of prayer services that are going on.
    On the religious front as well, there are lectures and Torah classes, all the food is obviously Kosher. Shachrit, Mincha, and Maariv with Sifrei Torah. They're giving out tzitzit and Tehilim by the hundreds. It's become the new fashion! The Rabbi of Maglan [Special Forces unit] told me that almost the entire unit has started wearing them, because the Army Rabbinate has been giving out tzitzit that wick away sweat. They're gaining both a Mitzva and a high-quality undershirt.
    We've started calling them "Shachpatzitzit" (a portmanteau of the Hebrew term for body armor and tzitzit). We're having deep conversations late into the night without arguments, without fights and we find ourselves agreeing on most stuff. We're making lots of jokes at Hamas's expense and without politics.
    There's lots more to add but my battery is running low and the staff has been requesting someone give a class on Likutei MoharaN (Breslov). How happy is the nation that is like this.

    The Commander’s Letter

    Eighteen thousand Israeli soldiers amassed on the border of Gaza last week, waiting for the order to go in and clean out the thousands of smuggling and infiltration tunnels and launching pads of the Hamas terrorists. The Commander of Givati, one of the largest infantry divisions, sent this letter to his soldiers (roughly translated from the Hebrew):
    Dear Officers and Fighters,
    It’s a big honor that fell to our portion to be and to serve in the unit of Givati at this time. History choose us to be at the tip of the spear of fighting the terrorist Gaza enemy that provoked and taunted the God of Israel’s battalions. [Here he uses terminology from the Biblical account of David fighting Goliath.]
    We prepared and trained ourselves for this moment. And we accept upon ourselves the mission, as emissaries and from a place of total humility. We are willing to endanger ourselves and give up our lives for the sake of protecting our families and our nation and our heritage.
    … I’m counting on you, on each and every one of you, that you will act in this spirit, the spirit of Israeli warriors, who are going in the forefront of the fighting forces, … I raise my eyes to the heavens and call out with you, “Shema Yisrael, Hashem Elokenu, Hashem Echad.” Hashem, the God of Israel, please make our way successful, that we are going and standing to fight for Your nation of Israel against an enemy that taunts Your name. In the name of the IDF fighters and particularly the fighters of this division and its commanders, it should be that what it says in the Torah should be fulfilled by us: “Because God your Lord Who is going with you to fight for you against your enemies, to redeem you.” And let us say, “Amen.”

    Shema Yisrael What is behind the most famous Jewish prayer?by Rabbi Shraga Simmons

    Jewish Unity: Seth Mandel, the father of 13-year-old Koby Mandel who was bludgeoned to death in a cave by Arab terrorists, spoke at the massive pro-Israel rally in Washington DC in April 2002. He told the following story:

    In the Sbarro Pizza bombing which killed 15 people in Jerusalem, five members of a Dutch family were killed. One was a 4-year-old boy named Avraham Yitzhak. As he was lying on the ground – bleeding, burning and dying – he said to his father, "Abba, please help me. Save me."  As he was lying on the ground dying, together they said the words of Shema. His father reached over and held his hand. Together they said the words of the Shema.

    Seth Mandel told the DC crowd: "My son Koby died alone. I didn't have the chance to say the Shema with him. So now I want you to help me say the Shema for the hundreds of Jews who have been killed in Mideast violence. Say the Shema with me in the merit of the boy in Sbarro's. And say the Shema with me in the merit of my son Koby." He then led the crowd of 250,000 in reciting the Shema together.

    The goal is to have one million Jews around the world all reciting the Shema at the same time. The power of the prayer being recited spontaneously by Jews all over the world is intended to help bring success to Israel's effort to protect itself from the extreme dangers being directed at it, and to create a cocoon of safety and protection of all Israelis who serve to protect the Jewish homeland.

    A true and amazing story told by Ohad Shaked. It came to us through Itchie Traube.  Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi relates:

    I received a phone call on Sunday from “A,” one of the Iron Dome commanders who was a student of mine about 6 years ago. I was glad he called. “Where can a person learn Torah in Ramat Gan?” He asked me leaving me baffled being that he was far from Torah and mitzvot. "I'm going to be released in a couple of months, and I want to learn in a Yeshiva - I saw the Almighty with my own eyes!” He said, nothing more and nothing less. “What happened?” I asked him. “A Missile was fired from Gaza. The Iron Dome can detect where the missile is going to fall within a 200 meter radius. This particular Missile was heading to the Azrieli Towers, or to the railroad tracks. Either way, hundreds could have paid with their lives!

    We sent the first “dome” and it missed. Then the second as well as the third dome missed, this is a very rare occurrence. To date, only two other such cases occurred. I was in shock! We had four seconds until there is no way back and the missile would hit. We had already informed and dispatched emergency services, the police and the fire department, to the location.” Then the commander spoke excitedly as I kept on listening. "Suddenly, without any preliminary design from the Iron Dome system (which calculates the possible wind currents, etc.) a strong eastern wind blew – a wind that we have no idea where it came from and cast the missile right into the sea. We were all in shock!!! I stood up and started screaming ‘There is a G-d’! ‘There is a G-d!’ ‘There is a G-d’!!! I saw this miracle with my own eyes. No one told me about it, it was not reported to me. I saw the Hand of Hashem fling the missile into the sea!
    Of course this was not reported for security reasons, but it’s enough to witness the miracles with our own eyes to know there is Hashem (G-d). I ran to one of the religious soldiers and asked him to put on tefillin. I took it upon myself to keep Shabbat, and that was the very best Shabbat I have ever had.” This is what he told me. I was so excited that it even brought a tear to my eye. "Ashrecha” (praiseworthy are you) I said to him, “that you merited to witness this incident and to understand that it’s from Hashem (G-d)!”
