Fwd: Rosh HaShanah massacre thwarted

bs"d
Israeli Security sources say that Hamas had a plan to attack kibbutzim near the Hamas tunnel exits this coming Rosh Hashanah in a coordinated attack with an invasion force of over 200 terrorists and an objective to kill or kidnap as many Israelis as possible.

The information comes from captured prisoners who have constructed this most horrifying picture. Security sources say that Hamas plan was "lowering the State of Israel to its knees." Prime Minster Netanyahu was reported by Israeli newspaper Maariv, as saying the goal was to use dozens of Hamas tunnels simultaneously. Tunnels have been found and dug under many kibbutzim that surround Gaza. One tunnel was even found to have its exit right next to the entrance to the dining hall of a Kibbutz.

Maariv's sources in Israeli security confirmed Hamas had a plan to attack kibbutzim near the tunnel exits this coming Rosh Hashanah with an invasion force of over 200 terrorists. The plan was to launch the 200 terrorists at once, through dozens of tunnels, across six towns in the western Negev. In most cases the tunnel exited into the hearts of those Israeli communities. The coordinated attack would occupy the whole area and kill and/or kidnap as many Israeli civilians as possible, depending on circumstances. Abducted Israelis would be transferred via the tunnels to the Gaza Strip.

Gaza Update:

Chabad of Hebron Launches New IDF Campaign

As the brave and courageous soliders of the IDF continue the operation in Gaza to wipeout terrorism and restore safety and security in the region, the Chabad of Hebron Ratz Outreach Team has stayed by their side.

Thanks to your support and contributions, the team has distrubted hundreds of care packages, foodstuffs, toiletries, as well as our trademark tefillin, warmth, and smile. "We know we aren't alone and that all Jews are with us," said a soldier recently in response to getting a Ratz Team package.

We may not all be on the front lines physically, but we all can and do make a difference with our support. So, what can we do now that the soldiers have their basics? Some good food. Honestly.

Not that the army doesn't provide the soldiers food. But you can't compare it to warm shwarma in a pita, delivered with care and a smile that says: "We are all with you!" This week, the Ratz Chabad Team delivered hundreds of pita shwarmas to a really happy, grateful group of soldiers. Wow did it go fast!

The soldiers aren't letting up, let's not either. Click on the donate button and join the effort. Every $12 you contribute is another shwarma and drink for a grateful soldier. And that means extra physical and emotional nutrition to help them fight for victory and peace. A simple click and they know you are with them and they are not alone in this war.
DONATE to our efforts with IDF soldiers
Need more inspiration? Check out this email we received from California. Way to go Shustermans!

"We the Shusterman boys, Chabad shluchim in Beverly Hills, ca, wanted to do something to help you help the soldiers. We are constantly davening for them, giving Tzedakah and doing many mitzvos in order so that the Chayalim will come home safely. In order to spread awareness and gather Tzedakah we created a lemonade stand on the corner of our street, in our very, very Jewish neighborhood and raised almost $80 for the soldiers. We sent in that donation today for $85 and we just wanted you to know that we send our thoughts,  love, support, and of course tefilos to the Chayalim all the way from across the world! Am Yisroel Chai! We want Moshiach Now!

Parshat Massei

Dear Raizy & Pinchus,

I don't usually start with a story but this one hit home.

One of the 120 Members of Knesset is Hebron's own resident Orit Struk who tells us the following story (pardon my translation)..

"12 ½ years ago, Senior Commander of Hebron, Colonel Dror Weinberg h"yd came to visit my son Mordechai when he was in Soroka Hospital after my son was injured in a terrorist attack (note: Dror was a colleague of our security officer Yoni Bliechbard who fought alongside him at the ambush battle of Worshippers Lane).

Today, I came to Soroka to encourage the wounded soldiers and their families. And among them was Dror Weinberg's son Yoav! He was injured in the fighting in Gaza.

Visiting the hospital reveals Israel at its best. You can recognize the soldiers immediately by the flowers, balloons, signs, and drawings. From all the injured, families, and many of the visitors, I heard repeatedly the same request: don't stop in the middle. Don't give in to international pressure to surrender. Let the army win."

In other news, the vehicle that is the lifeline of our security, youth services/eduation and grounds staff is almost past its usefulness (see pic below). It was used during the recent kidnapping situation and we can use it for summer camp and youth activities.

If we can raise funds for a new one that would be helpful (click here and write 'security' in the comments section) Anyone who wants to take on most of the project themselves, let me know, the dedication comes with your own license plate!

Shabbat Shalom (and quiet) from Hebron,

Dan

Tears of Rage, Tears of Conscience

July 23, 2014

A couple of days ago I drove with my son-in-law towards Jerusalem to pick up my daughter - his wife, and their new daughter - our granddaughter. During the trip in, and on our way back, my thoughts wandered - back and forth.
A new grandchild. Baruch HaShem. Thank G-d. People ask 'how many?' So now I can say, from Alef to Taf. Those who understand, understand.

It was exactly forty years ago that I came to Israel. The first time was for an entire year. I was a junior at Case Western Reserve University, studying history, planning on going to law school. I'd had the idea of coming to Israeli in my head since my Bar Mitzvah, at age 13. It was my parents doing. They suggested a summer trip. I liked the idea, but for various reasons never made it.

But, while in university, the possibility of participating in a 'one-year program' struck a nerve. Sounded like a really good idea. CWRU was OK, but nothing special. Cleveland didn't do anything to me. So, being able to finally go to Israel, being far far away from anything I knew, and getting full credit for the year, it seemed like a golden opportunity.
That year in Jerusalem, at Hebrew University, changed my life. As is said, 'the rest is history.'....

Seeking the Holy Presence in Our Holy Land

"זאת הארץ אשר תיפול לכם בנחלה ארץ כנען לגבולותיה"

"May it be Your Will before You, HaShem our God and the God of our Fathers that You raise us with joy to our Land and plant us in our boundaries..." (Mussaf Shabbat)

The boundaries of the Land of Israel are explicitly and elaborately detailed in this week's parsha, a matter that highlights the importance of every parcel of land in the Land of Israel before HaShem. Not only is the specification of the boundaries of the Holy Land important in the Written and Oral (halacha etc.) Torah in regard to the mizvot of the Land upon the People (Trumot, Maaser, , Shmita, etc.), but  also in regard to the responsibility upon the People to conquer and settle the Land, as is clear in the Written Torah in our title quote.

In the Oral Torah this principle can be ascertained from the halachic ruling (Biblically based) that only if Israel first conquers  the land specified in the Torah and only afterwards conquers territory outside these boundaries does that territory receive status as the Land of Israel Proper (Biblically liable for Truma etc.). This halachic principle is shown by our Sages when they describe HaShem's criticism on David's conquest of other lands before conquering the entirety of the Land of Israel specified in the Torah as he should have done.

We illustrated this concept in this way to fit even the viewpoint of the Rambam who does not enumerate the conquest and settlement of the Land of Israel to be a positive mitzvah, but according to the Ramban and the accepted halachic stance (as brought in the authoritative halachic summary 'Pithei Tshuva') that conquering and settling the Land is a positive mitvah even today, it is even clearer that the boundaries of this Land specified in the Torah are crucial in regard to the commandment of  conquering the entirety of the Land of Israel.  According to the Ramban's halachic stance we are not only commanded to settle the Land but also bidden to not leave this Land in the hands of another nation or desolate, as he ascertains from the verse 'you shall conquer the Land' (Num. 33, 53).

Spiritually speaking, as we have shown in the past, the Land of Israel is a spiritual entity, Abode of the Holy Presence, described by the prophet Isaiah (62, 5) as a 'wife' to Israel, her 'husband'. Therefore, the devotion of our People to the entirety of this Land, as specified by God, is crucial to our loyalty to God and His Holy Presence, for denying any parcel of this Land from Israel is tantamount to denying the word of God (in this week's parsha determining that it belongs to Israel), and His Holy Presence in this Land (for if God's word is not held holy, then what is holy about His Presence?).

By connecting to Hebron, we connect to the very roots of our People's connection to this Land, thereby strengthening our devotion and loyalty to the Holy Land and the Holy Presence therein. Our Sages teach us that our Forefathers foresaw the future, and therefore they travelled and lived in locations crucial for the future of their descendants many years later. It seems that is not for naught that specifically our holy Fathers of Hebron, the 'Roots of our People to the Land', lived an extended period of time, in addition to Hebron, in 'the land of the Philistines', identified as the area of the 'Gaza Strip' today, to strengthen our ancestors, as in the time of David and Goliath the Philistine, and us today, grappling with the identity of this location as part of our Holy Land, that indeed this whole Land is the Holy Land given by God to His People Israel.

Letter from our Director

Dear Friends,

As you know we are going through very difficult and challenging times. Every decision to leave Jerusalem is weighed and the destination considered. Most of our soldiers are holding down the fort in Jenin & Tul Karem, making sure that Hamas-wanted terrorists within the country are tracked down and captured, and demonstrations curtailed. However, we also have upwards of 35 soldiers in the Gaza Strip who along with all the other soldiers there are putting their lives on the line with every move they make. We pray that God will keep all of them safe, and that they return home soon with their mission accomplished.

These soldiers teach us all lessons about what it means to be moser nefesh and we also need to do our part by actively doing more mitzvot and learning more Torah.
May HaShem watch over all his children and keep our soldiers safe while they do what is vital to be done.

All the best & Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Tzvi Klebanow

Dozens of Haredi Soldiers Serving in Gaza

Dozens of soldiers from the Nahal Haredi battalion entered Gaza last week to participate in the war effort as part of Operation Protective Edge. The soldiers include troops in officers course, soldiers in commanders' course and Nahal Haredi reserve soldiers serving in other units. Meanwhile, soldiers currently serving in the battalion have had their hands full with trying to deal with riots and terrorists in the West Bank. Read the entire article (Hebrew).

Nahal Haredi Helps Facilitate "Shmira Project"

The Hebrew word "shmira" (pronounced shmeerah) means "guarding" or "protecting". In modern Hebrew, shmira also means guard duty. The Shmira Project is an ongoing, grassroots program that pairs IDF combat soldiers with Jews around the world who do acts of kindness, prayer or Torah learning to increase the soldier's spiritual merit and protection. Nahal Haredi is playing an active part in this wonderful initiative by helping match soldiers with Jewish people who want to learn Torah and perform acts of Chesed. Click here to learn more.
