Robin,

Republicans in Alabama voted their consciences Tuesday, and the result is that, for the first time in 25 years, Alabama has a Democrat in a Republican Senate seat that should have been the safest safe space this side of UC-Berkeley.

Despite the crowing from the media and the national party, this doesn't represent any great realignment or rising wave support for liberal policies in Alabama. If Luther Strange or Mo Brooks had been the candidate, this would've been a rubber-stamp footnote of a story. Instead, it represented a "bridge too far" uneasiness with a particular candidate that caused many Republicans to stay home and just enough (nearly 23,000, or 1.7% of the vote) to write in a different candidate, and hand a squeaker victory to Doug Jones over Roy Moore by 49.9% to 48.4%. Even with an Obama-level turnout of black voters for Jones in urban areas, he was unable to top 50% and would have lost handily if so many Republicans hadn't rejected their own candidate and stayed home.

Texting on the job

By Mike Huckabee

Are you starting to suspect that the investigation of Russian collusion by the Trump campaign is cratering into a corrupt, money-squandering waste of time ($7 million and counting, and the only collusion it's turned up so far is between Hillary's campaign and Russia, and its own investigators colluding to defeat Trump)?  Well, never fear: Washington is a bottomless pit of endless, expensive investigations, which are a heck of a lot more fun than actually getting anything done.  Here's the investigation news round-up so far this week (and it's only Thursday):

Some of the texts exchanged between two FBI agents who were formerly on Robert Mueller's investigation team have been released.  Peter Strzok and Lisa Page wrote them throughout the election and were allegedly having an affair (is that now called "colluding" in Washington?)  As expected, they prove both agents despised Trump and called him "idiot," "loathsome" and other nasty names. Interesting twist for liberals: They also hated Bernie Sanders. Page was apparently such a Hillary Clinton partisan that she texted that she'd just seen her first "Bernie for President" bumper sticker and it "made me want to key the car."  Strzok texted back that Bernie is an idiot, too.  You know, all this might lead a cynic to suspect that they were biased and perhaps didn't belong on an impartial investigation of a political figure they openly despised.

Investigating the special investigator

By Mike Huckabee

Along with all the previous revelations of bias, leaks and cover-ups by Mueller's team, Trump attorney Jay Sekulow is calling for a special counsel to investigate the special counsel.  When I predicted that very thing a while back, it was sort of a joke, but this shows how difficult it is to make a joke these days that won't immediately become a real news item.  Sticklers argue that a DOJ inspector general is the official who investigates a special counsel.  Fine, but don't be surprised when there's a special counsel to investigate the inspector general who's investigating the special counsel (I give that joke six weeks before it comes true.)

New line of attack

By Mike Huckabee

Next, as if to tacitly signal that the "Russia collusion" hunters have got nuthin', Brave New Films, a "documentary" film company associated with Media Matters and George Soros, is promoting three women who accused Donald Trump of sexual harassment during the campaign.  They are repeating their charges and demanding that he resign.  More than 50 female Congress members immediately demanded an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct by Trump, all of which he has denied.

----------------------

Word of the year

By Mike Huckabee

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary has been leaning more and more PC in recent years, so it's no surprise that they just declared "feminism" to be the "word of the year" for 2017.  Okay, I can see that.  But here's a challenge for them: now define it in a way that everyone agrees with.

-----------------------

The moral high ground

By Mike Huckabee

One lesson that I seriously doubt the media will absorb is that it shatters the ridiculous narrative currently being peddled by the Democrats that they are suddenly the "moral high ground" party and it's Republicans who will abandon their moral principles for expediency.  If conservative Christians in Alabama really were hypocrites who practiced DC-style situational ethics, they would've pulled the lever for Moore without a second thought.  As for their support of Trump despite sexual harassment allegations against him, perhaps they forgot voters had two choices; and the Democrats were offering up the Clintons, the poster children for sexual misconduct and smearing the victims.  And that was after 25 years of the party telling us that character doesn't count and sexual behavior is personal and irrelevant for office, specifically to protect the Clintons!

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach on Jewish Organizations' Disgraceful Rejection of Trump's Jerusalem Recognition | Jewish & Israel News Algemeiner.com

Video of an Outraged New Yorker in Response to Cuomo's and DeBlasio's Wimpy Press Statement following the Suicide Pipe Bomber in Times Square Station

Bsd

Listening to the Governor and Mayor's statement was not very reassuring nor did it generate much confidence in the Governor and Mayor's ability to protect this city.

We New Yorkers  don't want to be resilient. We want to be protected

Please ignore the coarse language and lack of pc of the following video'd reaction of an outraged New Yorker. Listen carefully to his message.

Terror in New York. An Outraged New Yorker lashes out at Governor Cuomo and Mayor deBlasio

My reaction to listening to Cuomo and De Blasio was the same as his.

Cuomo and deBlasio focused on how terrifically  all the enforcement agencies,  police, FBI etc worked in conjunction with each other after the attack and emphasized the resiliency of New Yorkers to move on. They advised everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious objects. They emphasized that New York is a target and this is to be expected. They reassured us that we'll bounce back just fine as New Yorkers are resilient. . After all, they stated, anyone nowadays  can learn how to make amateur explosive devices from the internet.

Gee Thanks! Did they really have to share such information? Just in case a would be terrorist didn't realize how effective he could be if he only had this easily accessable knowledge.

Morons,  I too thought. Are they suggesting to just get used to such terror attacks where it was only by the grace of G-d that no one of the hundreds of thousands of commuters passing through Time Square was seriously injured? Maybe G-d in His infinite Kindness, prevented major tragedy because of Trump's announcement to move the embassy to Jerusalem and only the perpetrator was injured significantly and no innocent commuters.

Let us remember it took only  two small planes to bring down the World Trade Center.  Nothing very sophisticated.

Successful Pipe bombs explosions  in a crowded subway could have easily caused high number of  fatalities and destruction and trauma.

After the fact, after it was G-d who prevented a greater tragedy,  how important is it that we brag that the enforcement agencies worked well together.

Following this kind of emphasis,  I will expect grandiose eulogies and memorials following a successful terror attack to pat ourselves on the back and convince ourselves for a job well done.

New Yorkers however are too savvy for platitudes.  We want to know what are the govt and law enforcement doing to prevent these acts of terror?

Being vigilant for suspicious packages and reporting would not have prevented this attack. Vetting would have. Deterrent consequences would prevent future attacks like demolishing the homes of terrorists Israeli style.

Putting some fear in the hearts of prospective radicalized Islamicist, a want to be terrorist, seems like a much better and effective preventive measure,  than telling New Yorkers get used to it.

The Governor and Mayor's response was wimpy at best and dangerous as it surely empowered these evil forces to try again and better and harder. They will interpret this statement as there is nothing to lose and much to gain in their quest for Jihad.

Fwd: A Chanukah Gift of a Different Kind

I hope that you will find this Chanukah Gift of a Different Kind of interest and worth sharing with family and friends.  In keeping with today's world events it has a very pertinent message. Have a very festive and light filled season.  Happy Chanukah. Rena

******************************************************

Judah Maccabee at West Point

By Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger

The legacy of Chanukah — faith, patriotism, defiance of extreme odds and tenacity in the battle of liberty against tyranny — has underlined the American spirit since the early pilgrims, enhancing the unique foundation of the U.S.-Israel covenant: shared values.

For instance, the statue of Judah the Maccabee, the hero of the Jewish rebellion against the Syrian-Seleucid Empire, is displayed at the West Point Military Academy, the most prestigious U.S. Military academy, founded in 1802. The statue of Judah the Maccabee, known for his principle-driven leadership and daring battle tactics, is displayed along with the statues of Joshua, David, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Hector, King Arthur, Charlemagne and Godfrey of Bouillon — "the Nine Worthies."

George Washington became acquainted with the spirit of the Maccabees, upon settling, in December (Chanukah) 1777, at his new headquarters at Valley Forge, Penn., with ill-equipped, weary troops. Faced with a superpower, George III of Britain, Washington concluded that only a dramatic change could avoid a defeat. According to the diary entries of Louisa Hart, Washington told the Harts about a Jewish solider at Valley Forge who lit a Chanukah candle and explained its significance. Washington's reaction was: "Perhaps we are not as lost as our enemies would have us believe. I rejoice in the Maccabees' success, though it is long past ... It pleases me to think that miracles still happen."

Six months later, on June 19, 1778, the Continental Army implemented the battle tactics of Judah the Maccabee, leaving Valley Forge in pursuit of the British, who were moving toward New York. Although the war would linger for five more years, Washington won a decisive victory.

Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were inspired by the Maccabees, proposing "Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God" as the American official seal. Just like the Founding Fathers, the Maccabees were a tiny minority of "rebels" - condemned by the "loyalist/pragmatist" Jewish establishment - rebelling against an oppressive superpower. They prevailed thanks to their conviction-driven determination. They knew that swimming against the stream gets one closer to the source. The Maccabees were a role model for Paul Revere, who was referred to as "a modern day Maccabee" and the organizers of the Boston Tea Party, who realized that there were no free lunches for freedom-seeking nations.

"In God We Trust" was inspired also by the Maccabees' battle cry, which adopted Moses' battle cry against the builders of the Golden Calf. A literal translation of the battle cry is "Whoever trusts God; join me!" The Maccabees' sacrifice and lack of political correctness also inspired Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death!"

In 2011, Chanukah is still a living experience in the U.S. For example, the residents of Billings, Mont. Celebrate Chanukah in solidarity with the Jewish community of 40 families, and in protest of the 1993 vandals who broke the windows of Jewish homes that displayed Chanukah menorahs. In response, more than 10,000 of the city's residents put makeshift menorahs in their own windows. They persist, annually, in this ritual.

Chanukah and the Maccabees have become an integral part of the American way of life, culturally and politically. Americans respect the legacy of the Maccabees, who fought the Syrian-Seleucid super-power, mostly, in the mountains of Judea and Samaria, in the Judean Desert and in Jerusalem. Judah the Maccabee's own Valley Forge was at Beit El; his capital was Jerusalem; he scored dramatic victories in Beit Horon (over Seron), Hadashah (over Nicanor), Beit Zur (over Lysias) and Ma'aleh Levona (over Apolonius); he was defeated at Elazar and killed at Ba'al Hatzor — all are located beyond the "1967 Lines."

Chanukah is not a holiday of "occupation," but a holiday of deliverance.

The descendants of the Maccabees are not "occupiers" in the cradle of their own history. Chanukah is not a holiday of "occupation," but a holiday of deliverance. Chanukah is a holiday which highlights the moral high ground of Jews in their ancestral homeland.

Shimon the Maccabee - who succeeded Judah and Yonatan the Maccabees — articulated the Jewish territorial case when responding to an ultimatum by Antiochus, who demanded an end to the Jewish "occupation" of Jerusalem, Jaffa, Gaza, Gezer and Ekron: "We have not occupied a foreign land; we have not ruled a foreign land; we have liberated the land of our forefathers from foreign occupation," Shimon said.

Pressuring the Jewish state to withdraw from the mountain ridges of Judea and Samaria defies the American story. Either you are with George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and other defenders of liberty, or you provide — inadvertently — a tailwind to the forces of tyranny.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you!

To all of you lovers of the Land of Israel who volunteered and
contributed to the success of Operation Sovereignty.

Thanks to you we have reached the goal of our fundraiser! Thank you!

Together with you we have experienced 48 hours of exhilaration;
together we saw the People of Israel at its best, open its heart and
pocket on behalf of the application of sovereignty in Judea, Samaria
and the Jordan Valley.

At the fundraising campaign headquarters, we received touching
telephone calls from people who thanked us for allowing them to be
partners in the great project of striving for sovereignty.

And there were also surprising calls and donations. Among the many
donors were Muslims who are residents of Judea who contributed their
money for the advancement of Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria.
The circle of donors widened even to the other side of the ocean, and
a donation also came from distant Finland along with a touching and
encouraging letter.

All of this and other exciting experiences throughout the two days of
the fundraising campaign, provide a powerful tailwind of
encouragement, strength and momentum of energy for all of us to
continue with faith in the justice of our cause.

And this is where we express our deepest thanks to all of the
volunteers, especially to the wonderful, faithful youth, the care and
love for the Land "to stay on the phone" and with lots of grace and
deep conviction, succeeded to raise a considerable amount, which will
all be used, G-d willing, to expand the activity. Thanks to everyone.

We also thank the speakers at the launching event – Rav Baruch Efrati,
head of the Derech Emuna rabbis, journalist and commentator Caroline
Glick, architect Yoram Ginsburg and the economic editor of Israel
Hayom, Dr. Eran Bar Tal – who gave of their time because they
understood the importance of the progress toward sovereignty in
general and the fundraising event in particular, presented their sharp
analysis of the situation and Israel's position as a regional power
whose goal is to reduce tensions and promote a Jewish moral vision
throughout the entire world.

The subject of sovereignty is indeed gaining momentum. The elected
representatives of the public are well aware of the spirit of the
people moving towards sovereignty and understand how important it is
for to be attentive to this spirit. This spirit, which arises from the
Israeli street, is heard quite well and is causing a real revolution
in the discourse of the leadership in Knesset and the cabinet.

And already, even before the fundraising campaign has ended, we can
report to you the first steps that will be taken with the donations
that were collected with your help, and the first step is another
Sovereignty conference, this time in Petah Tikva:

When? Wednesday, Rosh Hodesh Shevat (January 17th) at 8:00pm

Where? The Gola Club, Shmuel Hanagid St., Petah Tikva

What? A conference entitled "The Time has Come for Sovereignty" (in Hebrew)

Who will be there?

-          MK Bezalel Smotrich, Deputy Chairman of the Knesset, on the
topic: Why Sovereignty?

-          Hananel  Durani, Head of the YESHA and Kedumim Council on
the topic: Sovereignty is vital

-          Architect Yoram Ginsburg, lecturer at Ariel University, on
the topic: TAMA 100 – The First National Master Plan to include Judea,
Samaria and the Jordan Valley

-          Eran Bar Tal, economic editor of Israel Hayom, on the
topic: Sovereignty is good for the economy

-          MCs: Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar

-          Music: The Shir Adama Band with Adam Tsahi

Light refreshments

In these last few hours of the fundraising event we call on everyone
who has not yet contributed. We are embarking on a bonus round, when
we will try to raise more contributions for extra reinforcement for
the great activity that is before us. Donations can be sent until
candle lighting time of Hanukka, the holiday of the great Jewish
victory.

And this just came in: Members of the Likud central committee received
the following Whatsapp message: The Likud Central committee will
convene on December 31st, 2017, to discuss the proposal by members of
the committee to apply Israeli Law over the entire settlement
enterprise of Judea and Samaria and also to demand free building in
Jerusalem and all over Judea and Samaria.

A joyous Hanukah to all!
