The latest North Korean nuclear test which came on the heels of a missile launch over Japan (which the Russians gleefully noted the U.S. apparently was unable to intercept and thus declined to try to) drives home the terrible truth that President Trump now faces a "Truman" decision.
The talking heads speak of responding to these developments with sanctions or military threats,
Both approaches mean giving North Korea time.

And time is the last thing that the world can afford to give to North Korea given their determination to develop and deploy missiles with nuclear warheads capable of striking America.
At this juncture a military option should not be a threat but instead a solution.
How would North Korea respond to an attack that not only destroys strategic targets but also kills North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ?
Given Kim Jong Un's record, not even the top military leadership can be certain that one day they won't find themselves being fed to one of Kim Jong Un's dogs.
So:
Is it immoral to kill Kim Jong Un with the collateral damage of killing also those around him if this may mean saving tens of millions or possibly even more lives?
All the options today are devastatingly costly.
Ironically, if the Russian are correct that the U.S. cannot defend its allies against North Korea's missiles, this inability simplifies the decision.
For if Japan and South Korea can't be protected from missile attacks, it is clear that North Korea can't be given the time to install nuclear warheads on the missiles they have already successfully tested.
