OP ED: Brooklyn Event Hakeem Jeffries. Message of Despair. Time to hear the Spirit of Chevron. Shemittah Rediscovered, Robin Ticker

bs"d

Tonight I attended the Special Briefing at Flatbush Park Jewish Center.  It was standing room only. That is the good news. There were surely more than 500 people because the shul had 500 seats all filled, and there were lots of people standing.  See promotional flier of event.

Endorsed by AGUDAH, OU, AIPAC, RAJE, JCC of Marine Park, Flatbush Jewish Community Council, JCC of Canarsie, AIPAC, Crown Heights Jewish Community Council

Frankly, I was tremendously excited to finally see mainstream Jewish Organization join together for a Stop Iran Meeting.  OR that is what I assumed it would be.

But after attending the meeting to add my voice to the conversation as the flier suggested, I found myself politely escorted for voicing it.  There was no way to voice it other than to call out which of course is not respectful.  After all, they were briefing us the audience. and we the audience were expected to politely listen to their briefing and politely listen to the answers to the prepared questions asked by a 3rd party moderator.

Here was the message of despair to an audience that was somewhat educated but educated with a bias.  Here is the bias of the presenters of this meeting.

  • While Obama should have not brought the Iranian Deal to the United Nations before Congress approved it, the fact that it happened is a done deal and we must live with it and make the most of it. Yes, Congress Reps are our elected officials and therefore our voice should be heard as well. Rep Jeffries takes this responsibility quite seriously.
  • There is no turning back that Iran will have nuclear weapons.  It is a fact and we must live with it. 19,000 centrifuges were already put into place by the Bush Administration.
  • If Israel attacks Iran's nuclear weapons it will trigger a war and Tel Aviv will have rockets raining on it.
  • While there is nothing we can do about the lifting of sanctions by the United Nations (infusing the Iranians with 150 billions of dollars), and even if America votes against the deal, it won't change that from occuring and it will only isolate America, Congress still has 60 days to vote to  reject the deal. But the damage about lifting sanctions is already a  done deal, by the UN Security Council.   The only purpose to vote against the Iran deal would be in case Israel decides to attack Iran, we have leverage to not stop her from attacking Iran. Otherwise according to the guidelines of this deal, America would be obligated to make sure that Iran's nuclear weapons are protected.
  • If Iran reneges on the deal which can now be supervised, we can once again impose sanctions. (I didn't quite remember how they explained away the fact that Iran will choose the specimens)
  • Yet we can't undo the times that Iran reneged in the past.
  • It is better than previous stop nuclear proliferation deals made in the past such as with South Korea and Russia. NO mention  of North Korea.  People disrespectfully called out North Korea...
  • Yes, there are some difficult question regarding what happens in 8 years from now but there were some countries of the p5 who wanted ballistic missiles allowed immediately and the deal pushed that off as a compromise for 5 to 8 years.
  • The military option is not an option. the only option is can we get a better deal.
This is a far cry from

  • A terrorist regime like Iran must not be empowered with either conventional or nuclear weapons and every other option is the lesser of this evil including a possible military confrontation.
  • Obama must be taken to task for circumventing Congress and all agreements of America, including the one adopted by the UN Security Council are null and void since it did not receive the approval from Congress before Obama Administration submitted it for adoption to the UN.
  • What is good for Israel is good for America. What is bad for Israel is bad for America.
  • Bi Partisan legal actions should be brought against the Obama Administration for acting in a traitorous fashion against the American People and for personally attacking Schumer, Netanyahu, rich lobbyists presumably Jewish, and Jews for fighting this dangerous deal with logical military arguments against a regime that all agree is a  terrorist regime. Frankly, between Radical Islam taking over the world with death and destruction and nuclear capability and Israel bringing G-dliness to the four corners of the earth as our Rosh Hashana prayer say Vehaya Hashem LeMelech Al Kol Haaretz....and you should choose LIFE, what should we choose? Should we choose Nuclear Iran or should we choose Israel who wish to control the world as well?
  • Call for an investigation as per how ISIS became empowered is such a short amount of time, probably by  American Foreign Policy under the Obama Administration which helped to arm them and fails(ed) to effectively stop them, thereby creating millions of refugees, and unleashed barbaric cruelty and acts of horrific subhuman atrocities against humanity including caging and burning "infidels", public be headings, mass executions, blowing up infidels by having them sit on live bombs, enslavement of women and buying and selling women no different than property, the unspeakable sexual psychological and physical crimes against young women and children who opted for suicide but weren't even allowed the choice, rather than subject themselves to emotional and physical torture of the highest order.... need I go on? THIS IS HAPPENING UNDER OUR WATCH!!!! Dare we be Silent?????

This meeting was different than the Jerusalem Post conference because at that Conference when the Audience did not agree with the speaker they tended to boo.  True that it was disrespectful but there was no way of escorting the booers because there were so many of them. The Organizers simply reprimanded the audience and the audience in turn tried somewhat to limit their voices of disapproval.

AT this meeting there was no way to voice disapproval.  You were allowed to clap but any booing was considered disrespectful.  There were many ushers there ready to escort any disturbance.  As is typically the case when the organizers do not really wish to present the other side of the story, the panelists are carefully selected and all questions are asked by a moderator so that comments are weeded out and so is the passion of the one asking the question.  There is no chance of rebuttal. To be fair, the questions themselves were fair questions.

This audience was clearly not so happy with some of the answers the speakers made.  But they are conditioned to be polite and respectful and seemed less informed than the Jerusalem Post crowd of activists. They probably do sense when they are being fed a bunch of nonsense and conflicting points, but they couldn't really put their finger on it and there was lots of mumbling heard, but even when they did know enough to disagree,  there was no way to contribute to the conversation in spite of what the flier said.

Words of Nechama, comfort,  from the Torah Reading of Parsath Eikev:

יז כִּי תֹאמַר בִּלְבָבְךָ רַבִּים הַגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּה מִמֶּנִּי אֵיכָה אוּכַל לְהוֹרִישָׁם:
Deuteronomy 7:17: Will you say to yourself, "These nations are more numerous than I; how will I be able to drive them out"?

18: You shall not fear them. You shall surely remember what the Lord, your God, did to Pharaoh and to all of Egypt:
.
Sincerely,

Robin Ticker

Prager University: The Iran Nuclear Deal

bs"d

The Iran Nuclear Deal: Dennis Prager

Course Description
Is the nuclear agreement between the United States and Iran a good or bad deal? Would it be harder or easier for Iran to develop nuclear weapons? Would it make Iran and its terror proxies stronger or weaker? Should the U.S. Congress support or defeat the deal? Dennis Prager answers these questions and more.

Transcript

We say that evil is dark. But this metaphor is imprecise. Evil is actually intensely bright. So painfully bright that people look away from it. Many even deny its existence.

Why? Because once people acknowledge evil's existence, they know that they have to confront it. And most people prefer not to confront evil.

That is what led to World War II and the death of 55 million people. Many in the West denied the darkness of Nazism. They looked the other way when that evil could have been stopped, and then appeased it as it became stronger.

We are reliving 1938, the year that democratic Western nations assured a police state, the Nazi regime, that they would do nothing to prevent its expansion. That year, the British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, went to Munich to negotiate with Adolf Hitler. He left believing Hitler's promises of peace in exchange for Germany being allowed to annex large parts of Czechoslovakia. Upon returning to England, Chamberlain announced "Peace for our time."

The 2015 agreement between America, Europe, Russia, China and Iran mirrors 1938.

The Nazi regime was a police state. The Islamic Republic of Iran is a police state. The Nazis' greatest aim was to exterminate the Jews of Europe. Iran's greatest aim is to exterminate the Jewish state. The West dismissed Hitler as the Jews' problem. The West dismisses Iran as Israel's problem. Nazi Germany hated the West and its freedoms. The Islamic Republic of Iran hates the West and its freedoms. Germany sought to dominate Europe. Iran seeks to dominate the Middle East and the Muslim world.

And just as Britain and France appeased Nazi Germany, the same two countries along with the United States have chosen to appease Iran.

In fact, there is considerably less defense for the Iran agreement -- which awards Iran 150 billion dollars in currently frozen assets and the right to keep its nuclear program -- than there was for the Munich agreement. Prior to 1938, Hitler had not publicly proclaimed his aim to annihilate Europe's Jews. Yet, Iran has been proclaiming its intention to annihilate the Jewish state for decades. There were no massive "Death to America" demonstrations in Germany as there regularly are in Iran. In 1938, Germany had not been responsible for terror around the world as Iran is now. Nor was Germany responsible for the death of more than a thousand Americans as Iran has been -- in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Lebanon.

The Neville Chamberlains of 2015 defend the agreement with Iran on two grounds -- that the only alternative is war and that this agreement has the capacity to bring Iran into the "community of nations."

The war argument is a falsehood. For three reasons.

First, the alternative to this agreement was continuing and tightening the sanctions that were weakening the Iranian regime and greatly diminishing its ability to fund terror groups around the world. Second, because the agreement so strengthens Iran, it makes war far more likely. When evil, expansionist regimes get richer, they don't spend their wealth on building new hospitals. They expand. Third, Iran has been at war with America for decades.

And whoever believes that the agreement will bring Iran into the "community of nations" betrays a breath-taking ignorance of the Iranian regime.

The Iranian regime is composed of religious fanatics who are morally indistinguishable from ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram and all the other mass murdering Islamist movements.

The Iranian regime has executed more people than any country except China and killed more than 6,000 Iranians just for being homosexual. A woman in Iran is not allowed to leave the country without the permission of her husband.

The Iranian regime repeatedly calls for the extermination of Israel. No other country in the world is committed to annihilating another country.

Iran is already the world's greatest funder of terror organizations. Imagine what it will do with another 150 billion dollars. Imagine what it will do with the removal of the current weapons and missile embargo. Imagine what it will do with its intact nuclear infrastructure. This deal allows all three.

Very few people have a chance to do something about the greatest evil of their time. When it votes on this agreement the American Congress has that chance.

Robin Ticker

Fwd: Vets Against Nuclear Iran - Contact Senator Gillibrand

A new 501(c)(4) organization was formed by Iraq war veterans to fight against President Obama's P5+1 deal with Iran.

These Iraq veterans know more about Iran than the rest of us. At least 500 U.S. military deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan were directly linked to Iran and its support for anti-American terrorists Many of those estimated 500 deaths occurred during the surge in Iraq. Scores of American personnel were killed or maimed by highly lethal bombs, known as Explosively Formed Penetrators, or EFPs, that Iran manufactured and supplied to Shiite militias across the border in Iraq. Those State-of-the-art roadside bombs (EFPs) from Iran in particular were undoubtedly the most lethal Iranian weapon used against British and American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The group started television advertising on Monday 8/10 ads will run in states whose members of Congress are undecided on the Iran deal.
State-of-the-art roadside bombs — Explosively Formed Penetrators (EFPs) — from Iran in particular were undoubtedly the most lethal Iranian weapon used against British and American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thus the analysis that follows by two former British officers is of extreme importance to anyone concerned with halting the destabilization of the Middle East and the future security of the region. - See more at: http://jcpa.org/killing-americans-allies-irans-war/#sthash.Al0BQ1d4.dpuf
The first of the group's videos features retired staff sergeant Robert Bartlett, who was badly injured by an Iranian bomb while serving in Iraq in 2005. "Every politician who is involved in this will be held accountable, they will have blood on their hands," he says in the ad. "A vote for this deal means more money for Iranian terrorism. What do you think they are going to do when they get more money?"
Sgt. Bartlett not only describes the day he was blown up, he also describes witnessing atrocities at the hands of Iranian terrorists who came into villages, killed children and forced the villagers to do their bidding. The ad ends with Bartlett urging those in Montana to call Senator Jon Tester and urge him to vote no on the deal. Throughout the ad, Sgt. Bartlett sits quietly on his sofa and tells you what his story. By choosing to shine the spotlight on a vet who sustained a casualty a decade ago, the ad reminds Americans that Iran's past actions suggest, the chances of "peace in our time," are as slim as when Neville Chamberlain said it months before WWII.
The first ad will go up in Montana, aimed at Democratic Senator Jon Tester. Subsequent ads will air in North Dakota, West Virginia and elsewhere. The group will also send veterans to speak at events in key states.

"We are going to challenge those people who are on the fence," Executive Director Michael Pregent, a former senior adviser to Gen. David Petraeus who served in Iraq, told me. "Our main argument is that veterans know Iran better than Washington, D.C., does. You've got a lot of veterans out there who are pretty upset about this, so we are looking to capture their voices and make sure they are heard."

The campaign does not actually dwell on the nuclear issue, but on a more immediate threat: When Iran receives up to $100 billion of its frozen assets as part of sanctions relief, it could use that money to increase its nefarious activities all over the region. Top officials including Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, have testified that Iran is likely to use at least some of this cash to fund violence in places like Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon. According to Dempsey, Iran was directly responsible for the deaths of at least 500 American service members during the Iraq war.
The Obama administration has said that the nuclear deal is separate and distinct from Iran's regional mischief and officials are not counting on any positive change in Iran's behavior abroad -- although as recently as this morning, Obama has said he hopes that Iran might moderate its behavior. The president has also said most of the money is likely to go toward fixing the Iranian economy.
If Obama truly believes that Iran will moderate its behavior and or spend most of the money on their economy, he is much more naive than I thought.
Pregent said his campaign will point out that U.S. soldiers who were victims of Iranian bombs aren't inclined to ally with Iranian hardliners. The group has recruited U.S. service members who were victims of the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, when 241 U.S. troops were killed by Iranian-backed Hezbollah forces. Their efforts will also feature parents and children of service members who were killed in the war in Iraq.

"Do they fall into the category of those aligned with the hardliners in Iran," Pregent asked, "because they oppose this deal?"
I would like to see Obama start bashing these vets for being against the deal. These are principled war heroes who are opposing the deal because they believe it will bring more war.
Retired Gen. Mike Flynn, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency during Obama's first term, is an adviser to the group. He said soldiers by and large weren't advocates of the war in Iraq, but were simply called on to serve and did their duty. But now, many of those individuals are veterans, and they want to have a say.
"They have a right and a responsibility to speak up," Flynn said.
Below is the first of the Veterans Against the Deal Ad.
