Exposing Palestinian Myth - Peter Baum

Bsd

In previous posts I have exposed various myths regarding the anthropological miracle of the so called Palestinians.
It is abundantly apparent that -
a)not  one historical Palestinian or Fellastinian individual of fame nor profile could be identified for the period 3000 BC till 1964 nor
b) were there any records during this period ( 3000 BC to 1964 ) of any wars or battles fought by Palestinians or Fellastinians against foreign invaders ( Romans, Umayaads, Byzantines, Persians , Crusaders, Kurds, Ottomans ) in an attempt to 'regain' captured Jerusalem or 'Palestine'. I guess the Palestinians were not around during these 4964 years but miraculously appeared in 1964 with the help of the KGB.
Moreover, given the religious claims the 'Palestinians ' have over their beloved Jerusalem and the geographical land mass they believe has been their homeland since time immemorial it is indeed ironic, bewildering and astonishing to say the least that that the words -
Canaan ( which is where the Palestinians now tell everyone they originate from ) , Israel ( the land not the people ), Judea, Jerusalem nor Palestine are ever mentioned in the Koran. Never not once!!
Palestinians 'love' Jerusalem so much that they turn their backs on Jerusalem when praying in contempt . This originated when the prophet Mohammed ordered the slaughter of Jews who having converted to Islam ( to avoid taxes  - it was not permitted for Muslims to tax other Muslims ) secretly maintained their Judaism. The prophet thereafter also ordered Muslims change their direction of prayer in contempt for the holy city of Judaism, Jerusalem.
We are also told that Mohammed ascended to heaven from the Furthest Mosque - apparently located in Jerusalem. This is simply historically impossible as he died in 636 and the Mosque in Jerusalem was not built until 715 !!
Lastly and this is worthy of further debate . The Koran bequeaths the Holy Land to the  Children of Israel ( sura 5.21) . Any Muslim who is fighting for this land ( the Palestinians) are in total defiance of the Koran . Many pragmatic Imams who recognise this fact are suggesting that the current turmoil in the Muslim world , the violence and the Shi'a , Sunni divisions is directly related to the Palestinian claim on Jerusalem in total defiance and indeed mocking the Koran.
Ironically when Jordan had control of Jerusalem 1948 - 1967,  they moved and located all Government offices to Amman to dilute the importance of Jerusalem. Furthermore not one Arab Head of State visited Jerusalem while under Jordanian occupation. Thus further myths exposed - Jerusalem is not and has never been important to Islam. I repeat it is NEVER mentioned in the Koran. Therefore you will not be surprised to learn that it was NEVER mentioned in the PLO charter of 1964! So surely this alone proves that Jerusalem is only important forArab  greed of land and not for religion.
There are numerous historical quotations verifying the unimportance of  Jerusalem to Islam and the myth of the ' indigenous Palestinians ' to the land mass. I have selected just some listed below.
Other evidence debunking the ' indigenous Palestinian ' myth are the writings of various travellers throughout history - Gunner Edward Webbe , 1590, Thackeray 1844 , James Finn 1857, Mark Twain 1867, BWJohnson 1892, none of whom wrote of any Palestinian presence. The photographic evidence of Leo Kahn in 1912 verifies an absence of a Palestinian culture / people. Here below are some relevant historical quotes proving that Palestinians are a fiction. Today's Palestinians are simply an amalgamation of mainly Arab Muslims from surrounding countries morphed into political parties all with a Nazi manifesto.

Ibn Taymiyyah 1263 - 1328 , one of Islams foremost historical scholars wrote ..' In Jerusalem there is not a place one calls sacred and the same holds true for the tombs of Hebron'.
The other myth that we have recently exposed is the numerical absurdity of Palestinian refugees. To remind ourselves, the current narrative is that in 1948 there were 700,000 Palestinian refugees forcibly removed from their homes by the Zionists and now in 2018 and a 'genocide' committed by the Israelis on them  there are now 7 million Palestinians.
Human reproduction records have been blown out of the water by the sex craved, abundantly productive Palestinian women. If British women could reproduce at the same rate the population of London would be 85 million and the population of the UK would be 740 million . Similarly the population of New York City would be 120 million ! And all that without a genocide!  Both the original and current refugee figures have been grossly exaggerated for political purposes but seem to go unchallenged by both the media and our Parliamentary representatives. Moreover there is sufficient evidence to verify the majority of Arabs entered Palestine on the back of Zionist economic growth and were never indigenous to the area.
Tewlik Bey El Houran, Governor of Houran Province in Southern Syria stated in an interview with La Syne August 12th 1934, 'that in the last few months 30000 to 36000 Syrians had entered and settled in Palestine.
Interestingly there is an enormous amount of evidence which contradicts the Palestinian narrative about forceful removal by Zionists. Below are just a selection of articles / essays  which run counter to the volley of lies spewed out over decades by Palestinians and their anti semitic  and intellectually backward supporters.

-  Emile Ghoury , Secretary of the Palestinian Arab Higher Commission in an interview with the Beirut Telegraph Sept. 6 1948 ......'The Arab State which had encouraged the Palestine Arabs to leave their homes temporarily in order to be out of the way of the Arab invasion armies. have failed to keep their promises to help refugees '

- The Jordanian daily newspaper Falestin Feb. 19 1949 .....'Who brought the Palestinians to Lebanon as refugees , suffering now from the malign attitude of newspapers and communal leaders, who have neither honor nor conscience? Who brought them over in dire straits and penniless after they lost their honor? The Arab States and Lebanon amongst them did it'.

- The Beirut Muslim weekly, Kul-Shay , Aug. 19 1951......'The 15th May 1848 arrived...on that day the Mufti of Jerusalem appealed to the Arabs of Palestine to leave the country because the Arab armies were about to enter and fight in their stead'.

- The Cairo daily Akhbar el Yom, Oct. 2 1963.....'For the fight and fall of other villages it is our leaders who are responsible because of their dissemination of rumours exaggerating Jewish crimes and describing them as atrocities in order to inflame the Arabs....By spreading rumours of Jewish atrocities, killings of women and children etc. they instilled fear and terror in the hearts of the Arabs in Palestine until they fled, leaving  their homes and properties '

- The Jordanian daily newspaper Al Urdub April 9 1963 editorial stated -
...'I could go on and on with this forgotten or deliberately obscured history. But you get the point. There was no Jewish conspiracy to chase Arabs out of their homes in 1948. It never happened. There are instead plenty of historical records showing the Jews pleading with their Arab neighbours to stay and live in peace and harmony. Yet, despite the clear unambiguous words of the Arab observers at the time, history has been successfully rewritten to turn the Jews into the bad guys'.

- Joseph Farah, Arab historian and journalist - 'The worlds collective amnesia ' Sept. 19 2002 is a masterpiece of investigative detection which far more elegantly and eloquently exposes the Palestinian myth in 'Myths of the Middle East'.
'There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians - another recent invention , Syrians, Iraqis, etc. Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 per cent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one tenth of one per cent of the land mass. But that's too much for the Arabs. They want it all. And that is ultimately what fighting Israel is about today...no matter how many land concessions the Israelis make, it will never be enough'.

These historical , recorded articles are evidence enough but what is even  more interesting perhaps is the fact that none of the Arab journalists  or historians  refer to the displaced people  as Palestinians . They are   called Arabs .The genre 'Palestinians ' did not exist. The truth is that circa 70 % of Arabs who left in 1948 - and truthful estimates are around 250,000 to 300,000 , never saw an Israeli soldier. Elmo Hutchison an American pro Arab diplomat on the U.N. Security Council was the most incompetent source of such information during the initial period and even his 300,000 figure of refugees was almost certainly overstated because of his pro Arab agenda. The Arab States initiated the war and never accepted responsibility despite their enormous wealth , to assimilate their Muslim refugee brothers in largely under populated Arab nations.  The Arab public relations machine has been hugely successful in blaming this international tragedy on the Jews and the charade continues to this day. The suffering of the Arab refugees is perpetuated only for political purposes by the Arab States. As at the time of writing it is apparent that this farce  is being gradually challenged politically. The Palestinians have been used as pawns to destroy Israel . After WW2 there were some 100 million refugees - all bar the Arab refugees have been successfully integrated and millions of Jews , ethnically cleansed from Arab States have been absorbed into tiny Israel. It is a geo political and human absurdity to expect Israel to solve a refugee problem it did not create.
Now here comes the sweetest part of my essay - almost orgasmic for someone of my political ideology. There exists further  historical evidence , reconfirming such articles highlighted above that totally debunks the Palestinian narrative. And it comes not from rabidly obsessed Zionist fanatics but from Arabs, Islamists, and former and reformed enemies of the Jewish State .

Abd al -Mahdi , Arab Ambassador  before the Peel Commission 1937 ..
'There is no such land as Palestine. It is a term invented by ZIONISTS ( capital;s intended ) . There is no Palestine in the Koran. Our land was for hundreds of years part of Syria'.

Professor Philip Hitti, Arab historian 1946 'There is no such thing as Palestine, absolutely  no such thing'.

Ahmad Shukan 1956 Arab League Ambassador to the UN -  'Such a creature as Palestine  does not exist at all. This land is nothing but the southern portion of greater Syria'.

Zuhair Mushin, member of the PLO Executive Council 1967  - ' There are no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanes. We are all part of one nation. It is only for political purposes that we carefully underline our Palestinian identity..yes the existence of a separate Palestinian identity serves only tactical purposes. The founding of a Palestinian State is a new tool in the continuing battle against Zionism'.

Hafez Assad , ex Syrian Dictator to the PLO - ' You do not represent Palestine as much as we do. Never forget this one point. There is no such thing as a Palestinian entity or people. There is only Syria.'.

Walid Shoebat , a former PLO terrorist stated  - ' Why is it that on June 4th 1967 I was a Jordanian and overnight I became a Palestinian ?. We did not mind Jordanian rule. The teaching of the destruction of Israel was a definite part of the curriculum, but we considered ourselves Jordanian. Then all of a sudden we were Palestinian - they removed the star from the Jordanian flag and all at once we had a Palestinian flag. When I finally realized the lies and myths I was taught, it is my duty as a righteous person to speak out'.

Fathi Hmad , Hamas Minister of the Interior and head of National Security on Al Hakma TV , March 23 2012 , in an abortive attempt to appeal to Egyptian donors.
' ...every Palestinian in Gaza and throughout Palestine can prove his Arab roots - whether from Saudi Arabia, from Yemen , from anywhere. So where is your affection and mercy? We have blood ties. Personally all my family is Egyptian. We are like that, brothers. Half of the Palestinians are Egyptians the other half Saudis. Who are the Palestinians? We have many families called Al-Misr who have roots from Egypt. They may be from Alexandria or Cairo , from the North, from Aswan, from Upper Egypt. We are Egyptians Arabs Muslims'.

Isn't it too the irony of all ironies that in the mother tongue of the Palestinians which is Arabic , there is no sound for the letter P !!! Why therefore do the Palestinians call themselves a name they cannot the pronounce? Oh they will answer- we call ourselves in Arabic Fellastinians. Research verifies that Fellastinian is Arabic for Philistinians who became extinct in 1200 bc and came from the Greek Islands and parts of Asia Minor. Perhaps the Palestinians should claim Corfu or Crete as their capital.
Isn't it also ironic that the Palestinian name is more relevant to Jews. The Anglo Palestine Bank ( now Bank Leumi ), the Palestine Post, ( now the Jerusalem Post) and the Palestine Wine Company ( now Palwins ). Even pre and post war postage stamps from Palestine show Jewish emblems.

Religiously and historically there is no justification for a Palestinian State. Legally there is no such claim either but this is subject to another separate post as it is rather boring and complex.Suffice it to say that the San Remo Treaty, 1920, the Treaty of Sevres 1920, Anglo American Boundary Convention 1924, The League Of Nations Covenant 1922, U.N. Charter Article 80, 1945 , the South West African Treaty 1966 , The Vienna Convention 1969 and the Court Of  Versailles Ruling 2014 are all the International Legal rulings permitting Israel's land mass to be three times the current size. Moreover, the international Legal principles of Estoppel and Acquired Rights confirm all of those rulings and Treaties I have listed. No U.N. Resolution stops , limits or dilutes any of the above .
There is a very simple way to expose any errors in my essay regarding the narrative of the indigenous Palestinians from time immemorial whose land has been stolen by Zionists. Just give me the names of indigenous Palestinians- not families who from their names originated from other surrounding countries. Or give me the names of any wars or battles Palestinians fought against invaders from time immemorial to 1947. And the names of their leader!!!

Court orders minor defendant in Jewish terror case freed to house arrest

Prosecution blocks actual release, may appeal

By Yonah Jeremy Bob

July 12, 2018 17:50

The Lod District Court issued an initial order on Thursday to release to house arrest the minor defendant in the Duma alleged Jewish terrorist case.

The actual release of the minor, which included conditions such as an electronic ankle bracelet, court-approved oversight and a prohibition on his communications, was frozen until Sunday in case the prosecution decides to appeal.

The release order comes two and a half years after his arrested and after the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) used enhanced interrogation on him, and about a month after the same court declared much of the evidence against him regarding Duma as tainted because of the harshness of the interrogation.

Even if he is released, he will be kept under house arrest as there are other crimes he is still accused of and the prosecution maintains it may still even be able to convict him as a secondary role-player in the July 2015 Duma arson murders of three members of the Dawabshe family.

On Thursday, the prosecution even issued a statement highlighting that the court had not said that the minor defendant was in the clear on the Duma conspiracy to aid in the murder allegations.

In contrast, the minor-defendants lawyers, the Honenu legal aid group and MK Bezalel Smotrich also latched on to the court's order to free the minor from prison as a sign that he had been kept in prison wrongfully.

Prior to the hearing, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked had issued a statement calling on the court to act on the basis of compassion toward the minor.

In mid-June, the court confirmed the validity of key confessions of the main defendant in the Duma case giving the prosecution a strong chance to convict, while disqualifying key confessions given by the case's minor-defendant.

The mixed blockbuster decision had, and will have, far reaching consequences, did disqualify some confessions of the main defendant during and 36 hours after enhanced interrogation was used on him.

The Justice Ministry and the Shin Bet have a strong lead toward convicting the main defendant, Amiram Ben Uliel.

Regarding the minor-defendant, the decision means that while he will likely face convictions for lesser price tag attacks, he has a strong chance of acquittal from the Duma case.

The July 2015 arson terrorist attack – which killed Palestinians Sa'ad, Riham and Ali Dawabshe in Duma – and the Shin Bet's admitted enhanced interrogations of the two Jewish defendants created convulsions in the region and within the Israeli political establishment.

In January 2016, the prosecution filed an indictment against Amiram Ben-Uliel for murdering the Dawabshe's and against the minor, for conspiracy in planning the murder and other "price tag"-type crimes. Honenu and the defendants implied that the state was using a gag order to conceal that it tortured the defendants to obtain false confessions.

The court's decision dissected different pieces of evidence in the case for both Ben Uliel and the minor with surgical precision.

Regarding Ben-Uliel, the most incriminating evidence he gave, including a reconstruction at the scene of the crime, will be admitted against him in court as it was given more than 36 hours after the Shin Bet used enhanced interrogation on him.

The court commented that it could see from a video of his confessions at this stage that he was calm, volunteering facts which investigators did not know about and freely cooperating.
In contrast, the court disqualified his confessions both during and for 36 hours after the enhanced interrogation saying that it was not convinced that he was cooperating freely at those points.

Judges Ruth Lorech, Zvi Dotan and Devora Atar went out of there way to say that this did not mean that they were characterizing the enhanced interrogation as having crossed a line into torture.

In fact, they said that it appeared that the Shin Bet had not merely used enhanced interrogation to discover if the defendants were involved in the Duma terror attack, but had mainly used it to learn about potential new attacks which it believed defendants' organization was planning.

Rather, on the crossing the line question, the judges said they did not need to decide that issue as they could disqualify confessions at that stage merely as not being given freely even if the enhanced interrogation was legal.

However, those confessions of Ben-Uliel which were disqualified were not the key ones, which is why he is now likely to be convicted.

In contrast, the court in mid-June said it was not provided by the Shin Bet with a video of the minor's confessions.

Because of that, because the minor in real time in earl court proceedings said he was just telling the Shin Bet what they wanted to hear in order to escape more enhanced interrogation – all of the minor's key confessions, during and after enhanced interrogation, were disqualified.

This is why the minor has a strong chance of acquittal in the Duma case, for which he was only ever indicted for conspiracy to commit murder and not murder like Ben-Uliel.

Despite that win, the prosecution told The Jerusalem Post that before the enhanced interrogation, the minor had given a hypothetical statement about his actions which matched up exactly to what he and Ben-Uliel later confessed to.

In addition, the prosecution told the Post that some of Ben-Uliel's statements, which were now accepted in evidence, included his fingering the minor.

Overall, the judges appeared to have far more sympathy for the minor due to his age and fragility and this could help him toward an acquittal, though it is not a guarantee.

Oct 28, 2015 Woman (Nirit Zmora) stabbed in back, protests after Palestinian attacker charged with assault was acquitted of attempted murder charges. We feel her pain!

Bsd

Military court rules that not enough evidence to prove attempted murder because assailant knifed Nirit Zmora from behind and only stabbed once

Please note in comparison:

Today the court has decided that Elisha Odess still should be freed under house arrest, under heavy guard (fitted with ankle bracelets, can't associate with others only select approved individuals etc) because he is still  being charged of belonging to a terror organization and having engaged in unsubstantiated price tag vandalism based on his confession from when he as a minor was placed in a staged prison in Acco Prison, with Shabak players, acting as Arab terrorists and Police etc, unknownst to him,  threatening and intimidating him, trying to get him to confess to such crimes.

Please note that it is a known fact that price tag vandalism has been staged and orchestrated by Shabak and the Division of Jewish Terror!

The benefit of the doubt by such judges goes to the Palestinian terrorist stabber not to Jewish Hilltop Youth.

My comments

(These heavy restrictive house arrest terms, is probably to protect the System so as not to allow the truth be known in the public domain. They want to hide Elisha's account of horrific misconduct perpetrated against him these past two and a half years. They don't want others to be reminded that he was put in jail for crimes he never committed, thereby incriminating his accusers, the System. The System includes the Judicial System, Senior and Influential public officials like the Prime Minister, Defense Minister, the President, MKs, Rabbinic Leaders, Yesha leaders etc,.   All of the latter rushed to condemn unverified accusations and directly or indirectly helped frame, arrest, imprison,, torture and/or abuse Elisha and Amiram and all the Hilltop Youth and portray  them falsely as Jewish Terrorists).

We feel the pain and the pain of all the beautiful hilltop youth falsely slandered!

Who will judge these judges?

Standing by without protest will surely put prosecuting angels against us in a heavenly court!

Yesh Din veYesh Dayan!

They claim Amiram been Uliels' intent was to  murder the Arab family in Duma.

Amiram's  forced confession closely followed being tortured, with a reenactment with a Shabak agent prompting him what to confess. This confession wasn't consistent with Elisha Odess's forced confession of the Duma arson.  They supposedly helped plan the attack together. Actually Elisha's forced confession of the Duma arson which the prosecution itself rejected, was much more logical from a Terrorist perpective.  (unless he and Amiram were not only terrorists but also suicidal). Why indeed walk 8 kilometers to find the Dawabshe family in the center of the  village of Duma as per Amirams reenactment. Suffice with any Palestinian families murder on the outskirts of the Village!

Does the court allow the prosecutors to selectively pick and choose the confessions that match their predetermined narrative? It seems so!

They chose to pin lone Amiram on the murder charges of the Duma arson in spite of Arab testimonies that there were more than 1 perpetrator. So where are the other Jewish Terrorists? What happened to the Arab testimonies? Why no manhunt?

Accirding to the prosecution, Amiram "obviously" intended the murder of this innocent family with their baby. His confession matched the Shabak version. ( Obviously, if he was prompted by them.)

Yet for the Palestinian terrorist in Hebron that stabbed Nirit Zmora in Rami Levy in the back,  judges gave him the benefit and concluded we don't know if his intention was to murder. After all he stabbed in her back and not her heart and he only stabbed once (the knife broke inside her) the quality of the knife was obviously inferior etc. He was acquitted from  murder conviction

As for Elisha  belonging to a Jewish terrorist organization there is no evidence to this reality other than forced confessions, moles, informants working hard on slandering  and framing Jews  by the Shabak Division of Jewish Terror. Apparently their job is to fabricate Jewish Terrorists, plan, find players, usually naive and vulnerable Jewish youth if they can, provide props, tools and guidance and assistance as to how to enter  hostile Palestinian territory and commit acts of violence, arson etc usually with Hebrew Graffiti,  film it and share the information with hostile "Jewish" NGOs against Israel who then publicize the attack in International Global Media like syndication to the likes of anti Israel news, as another act of Jewish Price Tag Vandalism and Terror in response to a recent terror attack and murder of Jewish Settlers.

Shabak then proceeds to round up the hilltop youth and place them under Administrative Detention.  They are denied due process. They come up with no real evidence nor actual perperators to the chagrin of indignant Arab Knesset members who insist Israel is protecting these Jewish Terrorists (which were fabricated or groomed). Whew!

In comparison, there are lots of straightforward evidence of the PA and the UNRWA school system and Hamas all connected as being a full fledged Terror operation, meeting all the conditions of a terrorist designation as opposed to the peaceful peace partner myth of the victimized Occupied Palestinian Nation worthy of Statehood.

You can easily find their Terror agenda on some of David Bedeins excellent documentary on UNRWA schools. No need for a sting operation to stage proof of their agenda. They provide all the material you need, willingly and with Pride.

Fwd: When FDR Wanted to Silence the Jews by Rafael Mefoff and Column One - Why The Concern for UNRWA by Caroline Glick

WHEN FDR WANTED
TO SILENCE THE JEWS

by Rafael Medoff

(Dr. Rafael Medoff is founding director of The David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies, and the author of The Jews Should Keep Quiet: President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, and the Holocaust, forthcoming from The Jewish Publication Society in 2019.)

Although American presidents do not enjoy being criticized, they usually have a healthy respect for their opponents' right to dissent. Usually—but not always. Seventy-five years ago this summer, President Franklin D. Roosevelt was poised to use the power of his office to silence American Jewish critics of his policies regarding Zionism and the Holocaust.

In late 1942, President Roosevelt decided to send a personal envoy to the Middle East to canvass wartime Arab opinion, especially regarding the Palestine conflict. The emissary he chose was Lt. Col. Harold Hoskins of the Office of Strategic Services (forerunner of the CIA), the Beirut-born son of American Protestant missionaries.

Hoskins delivered his report to the president the following spring. The primary threat to the stability of the region, he concluded, was "world-wide [Zionist] propaganda." Hoskins predicted that "if the issues of a Jewish political state and of a Jewish army continue to be pressed [by Zionist groups] at this time," the Arabs would respond by instigating "a very bloody conflict" and would drag the Allies into it. This would plant "the seeds of a possible third World War."

One of Hoskins's supporters was Major-General George V. Strong, head of the U.S. War Department's G-2 intelligence division. Strong claimed that any perceived American backing for Jewish statehood, for letting Jews enter Palestine, or even for just temporarily housing European Jewish refugees in North Africa, would provoke a Muslim "Holy War" that would "result in the death and destruction of several hundred thousand American soldiers."
Lt. Col. Hoskins advised the president that the only way to head off such a catastrophe was for the Allied leaders to issue a declaration that all "public discussions and activities of a political nature relating to Palestine" were endangering the war effort and therefore should "cease."

The U.S. government has no legal means of enforcing a ban on certain types of speech. But an imperious president knows how to throw his weight around. Roosevelt understood that the practical impact of such an announcement would be to tar all public expressions of Zionism as undermining the war effort—and that would intimidate most American Jews into silence.

The president jotted "OK - FDR" on the State Department's draft of the declaration. The British quickly gave their approval; they were anxious to muzzle Zionist protests and keep all but a handful of Jews out of Palestine. A date was chosen for the release of the decree: July 27, 1943.

Not many secrets remain secret very long in Washington. Prominent American Jews soon caught wind of the planned declaration and were furious. Millions of Jews were being slaughtered in Europe--by this time, the news of the Holocaust had been confirmed--and now the Allies were about to close off any hope that Palestine might yet be opened to those fleeing the Nazis. Congressman Emanuel Celler charged that "the joint statement will, with its 'Silence, please,' drown the clamor of the tortured Nazi victims pleading for a haven of refuge."

Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, leader of the American Jewish Congress and the U.S. Zionist movement, hurried to the White House on July 22 to ask the president directly if the Allies really intended to issue a proclamation "enjoining silence with respect to Jewish claims to Palestine." FDR looked him in the eye–and lied. "The Chief seemed completely in the dark with respect to such [a] statement," Wise reported to Chaim Weizmann the next day.

Many of the Jews closest to FDR were not Zionists, but they, too, vigorously objected to the planned Palestine declaration. Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau, Jr., a non-Zionist, said he was "inexpressibly shocked" to learn of the plan "to deprive U.S. citizens of their constitutional liberties."

Presidential speechwriter Samuel Rosenman, an anti-Zionist, feared that if the statement were issued, "the Zionists would inevitably issue a shriek, a public controversy involving Senators, etc., would follow, which would ultimately give the Jews, whether Zionists or not, dangerous publicity as playing politics in a time of crisis." In other words, Jews would be accused of being unpatriotic.

Even Secretary of War Henry Stimson, no great friend of Jewish causes, conceded that Hoskins's predictions of violence in Palestine were "alarmist." With the story starting to come out in the press, his Jewish advisers clamoring against the plan, and even the War Department keeping its distance, FDR realized the scheme had become too much of a hot potato. He quietly scrapped the declaration.

The story of the never-issued Palestine statement defies the conventional wisdom concerning both the Allied leaders and American Jews.

Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill presented themselves to the public as stalwart champions of liberal democracy and all that it represents. Yet they were willing to trample on the cherished principle of free speech in order to advance their narrow political goals.

The Jews in FDR's inner circle were notoriously afraid to raise Jewish concerns with the president. Yet in this instance, they found the courage to protest, even if for somewhat convoluted reasons.

Most of all, this episode points to a phenomenon in American Jewish life that is not limited to the 1940s. Jewish leaders frequently argue that they are unable to influence this or that policy, either because of high levels of antisemitism or fear of straining relations with the president or other officials. But the story of the declaration that never was suggests that such Jewish fears can be exaggerated. At the end of the day, government officials respond to political pressure. When Jewish leaders apply it, they often get results.

COLUMN ONE: WHY THE CONCERN FOR UNRWA?

UNRWA and its supporters present the agency as an organization dedicated to supporting Palestinian refugees. But this is a lie.

Column One: Why the concern for UNRWA?
A Palestinian woman takes part in a protest against possible reductions of the services and aid offered by United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), in front of UNRWA headquarters in Gaza City August 16, 2015.. (photo credit: REUTERS/MOHAMMED SALEM)
On Monday, seven former US ambassadors to the UN sent a letter to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo insisting that the administration restore full funding to UNRWA, the UN agency that funds so-called Palestinian refugees.

Since UNRWA was established in 1949, the US has given nearly $5 billion to the agency tasked with perpetuating refugee status among descendants of Arabs who left Israel in the 1948-1949 pan-Arab invasion.

Be the first to know - Join our Facebook page.

In January, then-secretary of state Rex Tillerson informed the UN that the US was slashing its assistance to UNRWA by 50%, from $260 million to $130 million.

At the time, citing UNRWA's support for terrorism and economic corruption, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley recommended ending US financial assistance for the agency outright.

The issue of UNRWA, and the US's involvement with the group, hasn't received much attention in the intervening months. But now that the former ambassadors have brought it up, it is worth taking a second look at UNRWA and considering whether they are right, and what their bipartisan position tells us about the bipartisan consensus that controlled US policy toward Israel and the Palestinians until President Donald Trump took office.

UNRWA and its supporters present the agency as an organization dedicated to supporting Palestinian refugees. But this is a lie.

UNRWA is a political warfare organization that deliberately perpetuates the misery of innocent people.

It indoctrinates them from the cradle to the grave to support and engage in terrorism and genocide against the Jewish state and its people. It exists not to help the descendants of Arabs who left Israel at its inception, it exists as a tool of political warfare in the never-ending war to annihilate the Jewish state. As then-Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser said in 1960, "If the refugees return to Israel, Israel will cease to exist."

UNRWA's distinctively non-humanitarian purpose is baked in. Refugees worldwide are helped by the UN's High Commissioner for Refugees. UNHCR targets its services to real refugees – people who meet the definition of the Refugee Convention of having lost their state home due to persecution. UNRWA targets its services to people of Palestinian descent it calls "refugees" for political reasons; fewer than 1% of the UNRWA refugees would actually meet the Refugee Convention definition.

UNHCR finds refugees and gives them help; UNRWA finds people who need help and makes them refugees.

The UNHCR is responsible for helping refugees find asylum and settle in another country. Today it cares for nearly 66 million refugees worldwide. It has one staffer for every 6,000 refugees.

UNRWA, in contrast, is responsible for preventing Palestinian refugees from gaining asylum or resettling anywhere. It is responsible for 5.2 million refugees and has one staffer for every 186 refugees.

Over the past 70 years, UNHCR has permanently resettled tens of millions of refugees. It found permanent homes for 189,300 refugees in 2016 alone.

UNRWA has resettled no refugees in its 69-year history.

It is now responsible for the fifth generation of descendants of the Arabs who left Israel in 1948-49.

Every dollar the US transfers to UNRWA is a dollar used to perpetuate this misery. And it is arguably a dollar spent in breach of US law. According to the US Law on Derivative Refugee Status, spouses and children of refugees can apply for derivative status as refugees. Grandchildren are explicitly ineligible for that status. But by funding UNRWA, the US funds an agency that has required the perpetuation of refugee status of the Arab refugees from 1948-49 for five generations.

For years, then-US senator from Illinois Mark Kirk tried to compel the State Department to reveal how many Palestinian refugees actually left Israel during the pan-Arab invasion. Due to his efforts, in 2013, the Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously approved an amendment to the annual State Department foreign operations appropriations bill requiring the State Department to report how many of the 5 .2 million Palestinians on UNRWA's rolls were actual refugees.

Rather than reveal the number, which is estimated to stand at 20,000, or 1% of the number UNRWA claims, the State Department classified the figure in 2015. It still refuses to release it.

Former president Barack Obama's administration's position was to accept UNRWA's numbers as true. The Obama State Department insisted that any accounting for the actual number of refugees or attempt to remove the millions of "refugees" who have been Jordanian citizens for most of the past 70 years from its refugee rolls, would be detrimental for chances of peace.

That is, despite the fact that during the 2008 presidential race Obama said he did not support the Palestinian demand that UNRWA's "refugees" be permitted to immigrate to Israel and, as Nasser said, cause Israel to "cease to exist," his administration's actual policy was to legitimize this position. By refusing to reveal how many Arabs who left their homes in Israel in the 1948-49 pan-Arab invasion of Israel receive support from UNRWA, Obama enabled the Palestinians to insist that more than 5.2 million people, all but 20,000 of whom have never stepped foot in Israel and have no ties to the country, should be permitted to enter Israel as citizens and so destroy the Jewish state.

UNRWA's existential rejection of Israel's right to exist is not the only reason it is a deeply problematic, indeed, toxic organization. On a daily basis, UNRWA personnel and facilities are used to advance the physical annihilation of Israel.

UNRWA schools and clinics in Gaza have been used repeatedly by Hamas to store missiles and rockets and to launch projectile attacks on Israel. Several of their employees are senior Hamas terrorists. In the past year and a half, two senior UNRWA employees in Gaza were elected to senior leadership positions in Hamas. Funding UNRWA funds Hamas.

As multiple researchers have copiously documented over decades, UNRWA schools indoctrinate Palestinian children to hate Israel and Jews and to seek their annihilation. UNRWA employees throughout the Middle East praise terrorists, praise Nazis, and call for the annihilation of the Jewish people. By funding UNRWA, the US pays their salaries.

This brings us to the seven US ambassadors and their letter to Pompeo.

Former UN ambassadors Thomas Pickering and Edward Perkins, who served under president George H.W. Bush; Madeline Albright and Bill Richardson, who served under president Bill Clinton; John Negroponte, who served under George W. Bush; and Samantha Power and Susan Rice who served under President Barack Obama, claimed in their letter that funding cuts "put into question the ability of UNRWA to continue to deliver education and healthcare services to millions of people."

Oddly, they think this is a bad thing.

But it is a good thing.

Consider the case of Hamas terror master Suhail al-Hindi. Hindi was elected to a senior leadership position in the terror group in 2011 and reelected in 2017.

During this entire period, Hindi worked as principal of an UNRWA high school and chairman of the teachers' union for UNRWA schools in Gaza.

UNRWA only fired him from his position as principal in 2017. For six years the agency ignored the problem hoping everyone would forget or not notice.

Why do the former ambassadors want US taxpayers to support a school system run by the likes of Hindi? Then there are the clinics they express such concern for.

During the course of Hamas's 2014 war against Israel, on July 31, a team of commandos from the Maglan unit entered an UNRWA clinic in Khan Younis to seal an attack tunnel that was dug out from its floor.

Three soldiers, St.-Sgt. Matan Gotlieb, St.-Sgt. Omer Chai and St.-Sgt. Guy Algernaty, were killed when the clinic exploded on top of them. Twenty other soldiers were wounded in the blast.

The IDF discovered afterwards that Hamas-UNRWA constructed the clinic not only as the starting point of an attack tunnel, but as a booby trap. Twelve barrels, each containing 80 kg. of explosives were built into the walls.

Why do the ambassadors wish to build more UNRWA clinics? This then brings us to the question of the seven former envoys' motivation in writing the letter in the first place. The seven wrote that ending US financial support for UNRWA will have "national security ramifications for our closest allies, including Israel and Jordan."

This is true enough. But at least in Israel's case, those ramifications would be positive. The less money UNRWA has, the less damage it can do to the Palestinians and to Israel. With less money, UNRWA can teach fewer Palestinians that they should strive to become suicide bombers. With less money, they can build fewer booby trapped clinics and fewer attack tunnels under the floors of their examination rooms.

With less money, UNRWA becomes a less attractive option for millions of Arabs for whom accepting cradle-to-grave welfare payments from UNRWA has substituted work as an economic model. "Employed" on the UNRWA dole, they have been able to take low paying jobs as terrorists.

Obviously, as former UN ambassadors, the seven signatories know all of this. So obviously, they weren't motivated to write due to some sort of deep seated desire to improve the welfare of the Palestinians. They were also clearly not motivated by genuine concern for Israel's security, much less for the cause of peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Indeed, given what we know – and what they know – about UNRWA, it is impossible to attribute any positive justification to their actions. Rather, the only logical explanation for their decision to sign and send the letter to Pompeo is that they want to perpetuate US assistance to UNRWA because they like what it does. They think it is a good idea to doom Palestinians to perpetual misery and ensure that they will never, ever accept Israel's right to exist in secure borders unmolested by war and terrorism and demonization.

That is, like UNRWA, the seven former senior diplomats were motivated by rank hostility to Israel. This is remarkable.

Power, Rice, Pickering, Perkins, Albright, Richardson and Negroponte represent the top tier of Washington's bipartisan foreign policy clique. Together, they have played key roles in shaping US policy towards Israel for 30 years. And they like UNRWA.

Pompeo should thank them for their letter. He should thank them for reminding him to reconsider the administration's position on the UN agency. And then he should follow Haley's advice from January and end all US funding to UNRWA.

Furthermore, Pompeo should declassify the data on the actual number of Palestinian refugees and he should call for their cases to be dealt with by the UNHCR, without prejudice. And then he should announce that out of concern for the welfare of the Palestinians and in the interests of peace and regional security in the Middle East, the US believes the time has come to shut UNRWA down completely.
