The IDF soldier who was injured Thursday night when an Arab terrorist threw a marble block on him is still in critical condition.
The attack occurred in Ramallah.
The soldier, who suffered severe injuries to his head, is unconscious and on artificial respiration at Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. [Please davan for Ronen ben Lana]
He was wearing full protective gear at the time of the attack, and the marble block, thrown from three stories up, crushed his helmet. The terrorist was not identified and succeeded in escaping the scene.
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) said, "Our hearts are with the Duvdevan fighter and his family. During these difficult hours, all of Israel is praying together for the soldier's recovery."
"We take this incident very seriously. The evil terrorist who injured him does not know day from night. Soon we will have our hands on him - whether he is alive or dead."
The above is yet another description of the continuing life and death struggle between us and those who do all they can to kill us.
(My cousin Aryeh Kupinsky was one of these victims as he was butchered by Arab neighbors while praying in a synagogue three years ago.)
Some throw marble slabs from windows. Others use knives, guns, bombs, vehicles...pens, microphones and cameras.
Not all are Arab. Some of the most effective enemies of our people are even Jewish, but that tragedy is not what is on my heart today.
As a tour guide, my job - my mission, to share this beloved land with visitors.
Our special sweet land is plagued with an Arab population that has neglected and abused it for centuries, when it was almost empty of inhabitants and life.
Her own people longed and pined for it from the four corners of the world in their forced dispersion and exile.
When we began to trickle back over arduous and perilous paths we arrived in a land that immediately felt and absorbed the sweat, blood, and tears of joy and hardship of its beloved returning sons and daughters. It in return responded with what quickly metamorphosed into the garden of Eden. Yes, a miracle that was prophesied.
The bittersweet history of the price paid for this modern miracle is well documented.
What is an ever-present pain in my heart is the fact that the scourge of the Arab occupants who trashed the land and then murdered its returning people at every opportunity is still here amongst us. They continually improve their killing and destruction methods.
Yet this is not my deepest frustrations.
No. What frustrates me most is that when God in His deep mercy gave us the opportunity to rid ourselves of this plague we chose to ignore the opportunity. Nay, to desecrate it.
Fifty-one years ago on the eve of the Six Day War, it looked like the end of the Jews in Israel and of the nineteen-year-old return to Zion.
In 1967 Six Days War Israel with the intimate direction of God, turned the tables on the Arab world around us and instead of them committing their promised genocide on two million Jews they were utterly defeated and humiliated in the wink of an eye.
Now we come to the part that leaves my heart no rest.
Defence Minister Moshe Dayan and his comrades never saw God's Hand it this or in anything else in our beloved land.
They were the pinnacle of hubris and egotism.
The defeated Arabs begged for permission to run with their lives and not face what they were planning for us had they won. Their bags were hurriedly packed. Every window flew a white flag.
Dayan, the magnanimous, enlightened victor gave them his condescending smile and assure them they are safe with him.
They were indeed very safe, but not us
It could have been different.
It should have been.

Bar Ilan University is planning to give an honorary doctorate to Yoram Cohen, former head of the Shin Bet during the time of the Duma arson affair. Yoram Cohen will be known in ignonimy as the person who signed the paper giving the Shabak permission to torture 16 year old Elisha Odess and 18 year old Amiram ben Uliel for two weeks without stop.
Prof. Hillel Weiss: "Honorary Doctorate" to Yoram Cohen?
Hillel Weiss, a professor emeritus at Bar-Ilan University, sent a letter of protest to the president of Bar Ilan University following the university's decision to grant an honorary doctorate to Yoram Cohen, former Shin Bet chief.
In the letter, Prof. Weiss protested the award of the title to Yoram Cohen, following the torture of the youths suspected of arson in Duma during his tenure as head of the GSS.
At the opening of the letter, Weiss said that the University's decision "is attached to a long list of unnecessary honors during its years of existence."
"Yoram Cohen was head of the Shabak when he signed permission for the Shabak to physically and mentally torture two innocent minors for two weeks to obtain forced confessions for the Duma arson. These youth have subsequently been languishing in prison for over two and a half years without trial. Yoram Cohen refuses to apologize for his actions and has made no attempt to correct unacceptable norms that undermine state security, law, justice and morality," wrote Weiss.
"It is not befitting for a religious university to award such a person with an academic honor."
According to Weiss, "If Mr. Cohen admits his guilt and publicly expresses remorse, it will be fitting to award him with an honorary doctorate for his contribution to the moral awakening of the Israeli security establishment, especially in the last few years."
Prof. Weiss sent the letter to the president of the university, Prof. Arie Zaban and the university rector, Prof. Miriam Faust.
