Education: New York Public School Textbooks, East Jerusalem Texbooks under scrutiny. Please forward...

BH Good people are addressing serious problems in the Educational Textbooks of children here in NY. Kudos to those involved in  introducing legislation to regulate textbooks material, Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.)  Assemblyman Dov Hikind (Brooklyn-48th A.D.)  Rubber Room Romance Author Cindy Grosz and  Curriculum Watch Leader Dr. Sandra Alfonsi.  Parents, at least in America, assume that textbooks are educationally sound.  But that isn't necessarily the case. Kids nurtured on false and hateful ideology grow up quickly and translate their knowledge into hateful, antisemitic, racist actions.  We don't want our children nor any other children to use such textbooks as part of their curriculum.   This is very important legislation. Kol HaKavod!

We see how hateful textbooks translate to violent acts of terror.  In Israel it is no wonder that Israeli's are being fatally stabbed by Arab teens 13, 14, 15 even younger. It started with their education at a young age. They were educated on Palestinian Sesame Street and UNRWA Camps.

Assemblyman Brian Curran and Assemblyman Dov Hikind will be holding a press conference to announce legislation that would prohibit the use of textbooks and materials that redefine the roles of Jews, Christians, African-Americans and all groups in American History and create the New York State Textbook Commission to regulate instructional material used in New York State elementary school classrooms. ILF Appeals to Israeli Education Ministry Regarding Hateful and Inciting Content in East Jerusalem Textbooks
The ILF sent a letter to the Israeli Ministry of Education in which it raised the issue of incitement to violence and glorification of Jihad in official East Jerusalem schools' text books. As opposed to most of the Arabic-speaking schools in Israel, which follow the Israeli Ministry of Education's curriculum and use textbooks approved by the Ministry, most of the schools in East Jerusalem follow the Palestinian Authority's curriculum and use their text books. This is a historical policy which dates back to 1967, when the schools used the Jordanian curriculum. Approximately 70% of these schools are under the Israeli Ministry of Education's responsibility and receive Israeli government funding. The issue of incitement to violence and terrorism in Palestinian text books is a known one. Therefore, the Israeli Ministry of Education created a committee which is responsible to oversee the content of the textbooks and remove hateful or inciting content, and reprint the textbooks before distributing it to the students. However, research conducted by the ILF,  in collaboration with The Lawfare Project and The Center for Near East Policy Research, discovered that this mechanism is not effective, and that the committee has been unable to regulate the content of the textbooks used. Many of the textbooks being used contain incitement to violence, glorification of jihad and martyrdom, and denial of Israel's right to exist within any borders.

For example, a poem called The Martyr appears in a 7th grade text book:
"(...)Hearing [weapons'] clash is pleasant to my ear /And the flow of blood gladdens my soul /As well as a body thrown upon the ground /Skirmished over by the desert predators/... /By your life! This is the death of men /And whoever asks for a noble death - this is it!"
Similarly, in a religion textbook for 11th graders, killing of Jews is presented as a precondition for the "End of Days":
"Fighting the Jews and the victory over them: The Messenger [Muhammad] already announced [the good news of] the end of the Jews' oppression upon this Holy Land and the removal of their corruption and of their occupation thereof. [It is told] by Abu Hurayrah [one of Muhammad's Companions] that the Prophet said: The End of Days will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Muslims will kill them to a point that a Jew will hide behind a rock or a tree, and then the rock or the tree will say: 'O Muslim, O God's servant, there is a Jew behind me, so come and kill him', except the salt bush, for it is one of the Jews' trees"
In the letter sent to Minister of Education Naftali Bennet, the ILF stated that these textbooks are in complete contrast to Israel's responsibly to educate the future generation on principles of tolerance and peace. Young minds, who are the future leaders of their society, are poisoned and intentionally stirred away from religious and cultural tolerance. The radical views promoted in the text books are used to induce students to carry out terror attacks and to distant the mindset of the young generation from peaceful resolutions and co-existence.
The ILF's position is that the current system is clearly faulty and incapable of resolving this systematic violation of human rights and abuse of public funds.  The only way to solve this issue is by applying the Israeli Ministry of Education's curriculum to all East Jerusalem schools, primarily those who receive the Ministry's funding. The Israeli Ministry of Education has a curriculum for Muslim schools, and it is applied successfully in many Arab schools across Israel.
The Ministry of Education commented that they are looking into the matter. The ILF will continue to pursue this issue, and if necessary proceed with legal measures, to ensure that this offensive content is removed from the schools' curriculum.

I have been in touch with Libby Kahane and she suggested I contact you personally.

I know the Jewish Press always was and continues to be a great supporter of Rabbi Meir Kahane ob"m and now you have been in the forefront in support of his grandson Meir Ettinger who is continuing the legacy and struggle of his namesake his grandfather ob'm hy"d Rabbi Meir Kahane. Please do whatever is in your power to offset the slander, and any pretexts for slander with positive speech regarding Meir Ettinger and the hilltop youth. Especially now, as Meir's extension of Administration Detention is up for Review, Feb. 21 2016.

It is crucial that we put a stop to the slander on Meir Ettinger and the hilltop youth. It has become literally a blood libel of Jews against their fellow Jew.  Either there is a fair and just trial for those incarcerated or under house arrest, or these Hilltop Settlers should be released. Dear Readers, Please write letters to Netanyahu  and Yaalon and ask your Rabbi and Spiritual leader to encourage a massive letter writing campaign to PM Benjamin Netanyahu mankals@pmo.gov.il, MK Moshe (Bogy) Yaalon myaalon@knesset.gov.il asking for the release of Meir Ettinger and the Hilltop Youth under Administrative Detention.

 In the meanwhile we need to counter the blood libel with the opposite, with positive speech about the hilltop youth.  There are so many positive things to say about them.

They are beautiful kids, idealistic,

They love the land with all their heart and soul.
They love the Torah and they love their fellow Jew. 
They are hard working kids who have learned the art of construction and farming and shepherding.
They lead a wholesome simple life.
Many of them have experienced serious trauma being thrown out of their homes or are friends with kids who were thrown out of their homes
They are subjected daily and have experienced first hand, horrific terror attacks or attempts on their lives either on family members or friends and/or neighbors, living in Judea and Samaria. 
The government has been lax about their security and the security of their families as
They are second class citizens living under Civil Administration under the Military rule of law and therefore
They do not have the same rights as other Jews or even Arabs.  There is a bias against the Settlers in Judea and Samaria. 
Arabs build illegally yet in comparison significantly fewer such homes are demolished. 
Arabs continuously throw rocks, firebombs, shoot at innocent Israeli's and
Jews are at risk if they try to defend themselves.  On the other hand
They are under terrible scrutiny all the time, under surveillance, as if they were the ones who were perpetrating hundreds of terror attacks weekly as documented in HaKol Hayehudi. 

 This alienation in turn has alienated them from the mainstream Rabbis and the government who betrayed them and their families by allowing this modus operandi to continue. 

On top of all this...Seeing their friends, under house arrest or incarcerated, tortured under administrative detention doesn't help endear the kids to the establishment.   

Meir Ettinger is a selfless Jew like his Grandfather Meir Kahane ob"m whose only concern is for the people of Israel. 
He loves Jews,
He loves Torah and
He loves Eretz Yisroel.
He wishes to actualize yearnings of the Jewish people for a government that is governed according to Torah.

Investigations by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) have led to the arrest of 24-year-old Meir Ettinger, grandson of the late Rabbi Meir Kahane, on suspicion of nationalist crimes...It can easily be speculated that interrogations of the suspects exposed enough evidence for the Shin Bet to arrest Ettinger.  ...The Nationalist Crimes Unit [of the Shin Bet] was created three years ago by Tzipi…to eradicate nationalist crimes, i.e. actions of what are known as Jewish 'rebels' who, for their part, feel that they are acting to prevent the further deterioration of the state of Israel.


On August 16, 2015 you published an article by Donni Fuchs in Defense of those under Administrative Detention and whose photo was of Meir Ettinger, grandson of Rabbi Meir Kahane, seen at Magistrate's Court in the northern city of Nazareth. 
... Far more upsetting to me are those who purport to be right-wing, (even religious!) who adopt the language and behavior of the worst elements of the left. I cannot abide that those who endure blood libels from gentiles are quick to perpetuate the same against fellow Jews. Netanyahu and his crony Yaalon are using the abusive tools of the British Mandate, the notorious Administrative Detention, to harass Jews. They are desperate to pin "crimes" on "hill top youth." It suggests that Netanyahu is ready to embark on another campaign of appeasement and that he is trying to quell resistance to any future territorial concessions to the Arabs....

A young man named Meir Ettinger, the grandson of Rabbi Meir Kahane (may G-d avenge his blood!), is now being held in administrative detention, and in accordance with the draconian tenets of this abuse of power, they can hold him for six months without charges and without a trial. After six months of enduring whatever abuses the Shabak puts him through, they can renew his detention for another six months under the same Bolshevik conditions. And it is my understanding that they can indefinitely continue this process. During this time, the Shabak and other nefarious agencies of the Israeli government will surely torture him physically and psychologically and try to extract a confession.
Like grandfather like grandson. If Meir Ettinger is being held for the same reasons as his grandfather, then one thing is for certain: his grandfather would have been proud of him and the other Jewish freedom fighters being detained. He too was innocent of the many unwarranted charges against him. Rabbi Kahane's sole "crime" was speaking the Torah truth, regardless of the consequences.
Again, it must be emphasized that were there ANY evidence of criminal activity, they would have all been charged. That is what is so grotesque about this whole process. Administrative detention is used precisely when there is no evidence. It is a means of punishing those they deem to represent examples of Jewish militancy and extremism. The intention is to crush any vestige of Jewish resistance to the culture of surrender and appeasement. The use of this immoral punishment is proof that there was no crime!
Shame on Netanyahu and Moshe Yaalon, the purveyors of this latest "Hunting Season." Shame on Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked, the darlings of the loyalist, weak-kneed religious right, for partaking in this immoral hunt against Jews. They are acting as the Left did during the notorious hunting season when they preyed upon heroic fighters and handed them over to the British to be tortured and killed. Jewish history will remember their roles in this sin. Additionally, they are inciting the Arabs with their own propaganda, and the end result will certainly be more murdered Jews. There will be no atonement.

Honenu legal aid attorney Yuval Zemer, who represents Ettinger, stated that his client had been subjected to shaking, harsh interrogations and violence while in Shin Bet custody...When a prisoner complains of torture, the Attorney General orders an initial investigation of the complaint to clarify whether the case fits the "necessity defense" which exempts the interrogator of responsibility. As of now, initial internal investigations have prevented thorough, independent investigations of all the complaints PCATI has submitted on behalf of prisoners.
Sworn affidavits of prisoners who underwent interrogation since the above ruling reveal that the license given by the Court to Shin Bet interrogators to employ their independent discretion in certain cases has allowed them to continue employing violent methods of interrogation.
