Today's Commentary:  Trump Photoshopped Out Of Yearbooks -- Pulse Nightclub Anniversary -- Comey's History

Robin,

Some New Jersey high school students who might not have minded a little PhotoShop to fix a pimple or two in their yearbook pictures were in for a rude surprise when they got their yearbooks for the Class Of '17. Two kids who had worn "Trump" shirts in their pictures had had those references magically removed. (PhotoShop is cited in news accounts, but the logos appear to have been conveniently cropped out.) They'd obviously hoped to be remembered through the ages for a gentle political statement with their choice of attire, but it was not to be.

Oh, but you cry, the yearbook should be a politics-free zone! And keeping it a "safe space" will be good preparation for college, where one word in support of Trump will be considered too traumatizing to be allowed on campus at all. Let's at least be consistent, though: a look at past editions of the same school's yearbook shows that that it wasn't previously free of politics: references to Barack Obama and Reagan/Bush were included.

Another student who had donned a "Make America Great Again" shirt for his picture appears to be wearing a plain shirt in the yearbook through the miracle of PhotoShop. Yet another had submitted a quote about "thinking big" from Donald Trump to appear under her picture, but it was not printed. If that was to keep politics out, then why did another student get to have his quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt?

The matter –- note that I'm calling it a "matter" rather than an "investigation" –- is being looked into. Meanwhile, we should be relieved to know the teacher who sponsors the yearbook has been suspended for the remainder of the school year.

Which ends Friday.

Sincerely,

Mike Huckabee

Pulse Nightclub Anniversary

By Mike Huckabee

In the novel "1984," the lead character's job is to rewrite history every day so that old newspapers support whatever narrative the government is pushing that day. It seems that today's liberal "journalists" think that's now their job, but luckily, the Internet has preserved the archives that contain the real history they'd rather obliterate.

For instance, June 12 is an important anniversary of two events. Thirty years ago Monday, Ronald Reagan famously stood in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and demanded, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" And his resoluteness and insistence on focusing attention on that concrete monument to oppression that the chattering classes had ignored for decades proved to be the first serious hammer blow in reducing it to rubble. Today, when the liberal media refer to Reagan, it's usually to cite him as an example of a great Republican leader that current Republicans don't hold a candle to. I can sort of see that, but if you lived through those times like I did, you remember that that's not what they called him back then. He was "Ronald Ray-Gun," the crazy Hollywood cowboy who was going to plunge us into World War III with his blunt (but accurate) language that made pussyfooting bureaucrats spew their chamomile tea all over their copies of the New York Times ("Calling the USSR an 'evil empire!' Why, the very idea!") But now, when they reference Reagan demanding the Berlin Wall be torn down, it's to make mocking comparisons to Trump's wall, without regard to the fact that Trump is trying to keep illegal invaders out while the Berlin Wall was a prison wall, designed to keep an entire population trapped in oppression.

June 12 was also the one-year anniversary of the horrific night when ISIS sympathizer Omar Mateen murdered 49 innocent people at the gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando. It was the deadliest mass shooting in US history. So blogger Jim Treacher at the Daily Caller pulled together a round-up of headlines marking the anniversary from major news outlets. None of them, not even Fox News, used blunt-but-accurate terms such as "murder," "ISIS," or "radical Islamic militant." A couple call it a "massacre," but most chose soft, vague terms bereft of the killer's motives, such as "49 People Died," as if they might just have easily died of a lightning strike or Legionnaire's Disease. Some anti-Trumpers are even trying to rewrite history to blame Trump for it, despite him not even being in office at the time, his expressing sympathy and solidarity with the victims then, and his efforts to keep those who would repeat such massacres from entering America, which those same critics are fighting tooth and nail.

George Santayana warned that those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Let's not let those who would seek to edit, rewrite and bury history doom the rest of us to repeat their mistakes.

Comey's History

By Mike Huckabee

As we hopefully bid James Comey adieu at (overlong) last, here's a look back at his long career of prosecutorial abuse by attempting to railroad people into prison on questionable obstruction of justice charges when he couldn't find any other wrongdoing to accuse them of. It appears that Hillary Clinton may the only suspect he ever granted the assumption of innocence, for some reason yet to be determined. One case was so egregious, it inspired the defendant to fund a center at the University of Pennsylvania Law School to help innocent people who'd been wrongly convicted.

Fact You Might Not Recall: Comey was the guy who sent Martha Stewart to prison for misleading people by denying having committed a crime that she was never charged with.
